Die Verpackungsvorrichtung weist außerdem eine erste Anpresseinrichtung stromabwärts der Umlenkeinrichtung vor der Querschweißeinrichtung oberhalb der Oberfolie mit dem Produkt und eine zweite Anpresseinrichtung stromabwärts nach der Querschweißeinrichtung oberhalb der Oberfolie mit dem Produkt auf. Dadurch wird erreicht, dass die Anpresseinrichtung möglichst nahe sich an der Querschweißeinrichtung befinden, so dass der Zwischenraum, in dem die Folien frei sind, möglichst gering ist. Die Steuereinrichtungen erzeugen durch Anpassung der Transportgeschwindigkeit des Folienhalbschlauches bzw. der beiden Flachfolien eine Dehnung der Folien zwischen Folienspender und der ersten Anpresseinrichtung, so dass die Folien über die Umlenkeinrichtung hinweg über eine längere Strecke, bei der das Produkt bereits zwischen der Oberfolie und der Unterfolie einliegt, aufrecht erhalten wird. Der aufgeschnittene Folienhalbschlauch bzw. die Flachfolien werden zwischen dem Folienspender und einer ersten Anpresseinrichtung oberhalb der Oberfolie mit dem Produkt bzw. eines ersten Transportbandes im Bereich der ersten Anpresseinrichtung unterhalb der Unterfolie gedehnt. Die Dehnung der Folien auf dem Weg des Produktes unter der Querschweißeinrichtung hindurch zwischen der ersten Anpresseinrichtung bzw. ersten Transportbandes und einer zweiten Anpresseinrichtung oberhalb der Oberfolie mit dem Produkt bzw. einem Transportbandes im Bereich der zweiten Anpresseinrichtung unterhalb der Unterfolie wird aufrecht erhalten, wobei die zweite Anpresseinrichtung und das zweite Transportband in Transportrichtung nach der Querschweißeinrichtung angeordnet sind. Anschließend wird die Geschwindigkeit des zweiten Transportbandes und der zweiten Anpresseinrichtung soweit reduziert, dass die Spannung zwischen dem unter der zweiten Anpresseinrichtung befindlichen Produkt und dem nachfolgenden unter der ersten Einrichtung befindlichen Produkt aufgehoben wird. Danach erfolgt das Schweißen und Trennen der Folien mittels der Querschweißeinrichtung zwischen den beiden Produkten zur Bildung stirnseitiger Verschweißung an den beiden aufeinanderfolgenden Produkten, wobei die Querschweißeinrichtung zusammen mit den beiden Anpresseinrichtungen in Transportrichtung mitbewegt und nach dem Trennen wieder zurückbewegt wird. Nach dem Schweißen und Trennen wird die Geschwindigkeit des zweiten Transportbandes und der zweiten Anpresseinrichtung wieder auf die ursprüngliche Geschwindigkeit erhöht und das Förderprodukt aus dem Bereich der zweiten Anpresseinrichtung herausbewegt. Bei der Schweißung an der hinteren Stirnkante des Produkts wird ebenfalls nur im stirnseitigen Bereich ein kleiner Bereich der Produktoberfläche von dem zweiten Anpressband nicht erfasst und daher auch dort die Dehnung freigegeben. Nach dem Verschweißen sowohl an der vorderen Stirnkante als auch der hinteren Stirnkante des Produkts bewirkt die freigegebene Dehnung ein Heranziehen der Schweißnähte an das Produkt. Das straffe Umlegen um das Produkt, so wie es insbesondere für den Anwendungsfall von zwei oder mehr aufeinanderliegenden Zeitschriften gewünscht wird, erfolgt erst nach der Freigabe der Dehnung durch das zweite Anpressband und das darunter befindliche Saugband des zweiten Transportbandes.
