Definitions
- cap backups are known with identifiers in different embodiments.
- fuses are known, which are equipped with spring elements and / or lossy integrated resistance elements to improve the tripping behavior in the vicinity of the tripping current by self-heating.
- these fuses do not provide a thermal fuse independent of the current.
- DE19545505 discloses such a fuse circuit according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the invention is based on the object to provide a fuse that circumvents one or more disadvantages of the known from the prior art solutions in an inventive manner.
- the FIG. 1 shows a surge protection device 1 in which a fuse 3 according to the invention can find application.
- the overvoltage protection device for example, a protective component 2.
- the protective component 2 may be, for example, a varistor.
- This protective component 2 has a first terminal 2a and a second terminal 2b on. Terminal 2b is electrically connected to the terminal 1a of the overvoltage protection device 1, while terminal 2b is electrically and thermally connected to the cap 3a of FIG Fuse 3 is connected.
- Connection electrode 4 in turn is connected to the connection 1b of the overvoltage protection device 1 with a flexible electrical connection 5.
- the fuse 3 has a housing 3f. This can be made of any suitable material, for example made of glass or ceramic, and have a suitable shape, for example a cylindrical shape.
- the fuse has the already mentioned first cap 3a and a second cap 3b. At least cap 3a is partially electrically and thermally conductive. Furthermore, the fuse 3 has at least one fuse wire 3d, which runs between the first cap 3a and the second cap 3b within the housing 3f. In use, the first cap 3a is brought into thermal and electrical connection with the protective component 2. Further, the fuse wire 3d is held on the first cap 3a by means of a solder joint 3c, and the fuse wire 3d is further fixed to a terminal electrode 4 opposite to the first cap 3a. The terminal electrode 4 is held movably in a guide 8 in the cap 3b with respect to the body 3f of the fuse 3 and is opposite the body 3f of the fuse 3 under a mechanical bias 6.
- the bias may be applied by, for example, one or more spring-like elements to be limited. For example, alternatively or additionally, a repulsive magnetic effect could provide the corresponding bias voltage 6.
- the fusible wire 3d is designed to melt when exposed to a high I 2 t. Such an I 2 t occurs, for example, when a used as a protective component 2 varistorteurlegiert. Then a high current flows in a relatively short time. In order to prevent this flow of current, this massive current input should become one Melt melting of the fusible lead 3d in a relatively short time, eg within fractions of seconds. Typical currents that flow are in the range of 10 amperes, 100 amperes and more. One such case is in FIG. 4 shown. On the other hand, the fusible wire is also dimensioned so that any pulse current to be carried, for example in a transient event, can be easily carried and derived.
- solder joint 3c is designed so that the solder joint 3c melts at an external heating by the protective component 2 above a specified temperature due to the thermal connection via the terminal 2a to the cap 3a.
- Such thermal protection is rather sluggish compared to the melting of the wetting wire and ranges from seconds to minutes or more.
- the core idea is that a slower thermal death of a protective component 2 also leads to the triggering of the fuse 3.
- the fusible conductor 3d will not melt, but the solder joint 3c. This case is in FIG. 3 shown where the solder of the solder joint is softened and unlike FIG. 2 designated 3c '.
- a typical solder that can be used for the solder joint 3c is a suitable low temperature solder, eg with a soldering temperature of 143 ° C or solder balls of Bi / Pb / Cd or the like.
- a suitable low temperature solder eg with a soldering temperature of 143 ° C or solder balls of Bi / Pb / Cd or the like.
- the fuse wire 3d itself as a solder joint 3c.
- solder joint 3c softens or if the fuse wire 3d softens, the previously existing electrical contact is released from the cap 3a via the fuse wire 3d to the connection electrode 4 due to the mechanical bias 6.
- the design referred to above makes it possible to combine two functions in one fuse, namely one thermal fuse and a short-circuit protection. Due to the fact that both are combined in one fuse, the design is small and can also be produced inexpensively.
- the fuse wire 3d spent by the mechanical bias 6 of the solder joint 3c away in the housing 3f. This can be used to ensure that an emerging arc, which acts as a lightning bolt in Figures 3 and 4 is indicated, does not occur outside the fuse and so the fire safety is guaranteed.
- the housing 3f has, at least in sections, a filling with an arc-quenching material, such as sand or POM.
- the mechanical bias 6 is a spring force, wherein the spring (s) either in the housing - as in FIG. 5 shown - in particular between cap 3b and terminal electrode 4, or - as in the Figures 2 . 3 and 4 shown - is arranged on the outside of the housing / are.
- An arrangement inside protects against contamination but has the disadvantage that the state of the spring can not be controlled without further measures.
- a retaining wire 3e is guided parallel to the wetting wire 3d.
- this holding wire 3e has a high-impedance construction and is intended to prevent the mechanical biasing 6 from causing the fuse wire 3d to release too early. Due to the high-impedance design with simultaneously higher strength than the fuse wire 3d, the current will flow substantially over the fuse wire 3d. If this current is too high in a short time (high I2t), the fuse wire 3d will melt and the holding wire 3e will now be traversed by the current. Due to the higher resistance he will melt almost immediately. Therefore, the fusible wire 3d will usually have a high Cu or Al content while, for example, the retaining wire 3e may be made of constantan.
- the retaining wire 3e is in electrical and mechanical connection with the connection electrode 4, wherein the fuse wire 3d and the retaining wire 3e are connected to the opposite electrical connection cap 3a via the solder connection 3c.
- the fuse 3 further comprises a display means to indicate the triggering of the fuse.
- a display means to indicate the triggering of the fuse.
- This may for example be a mechanical display which is moved with the movable connection electrode 4 and for example provides a color change from green to red and / or a switch, e.g. a micro-switch, provided which is actuated by the movable connection electrode 4 and closes or opens a corresponding circuit and / or triggers a remote warning.
- the display means shows the triggering of the fuse 3 when melting the solder joint 3c as well as in a melting of the fuse element 3d similarly.
- the component complexity is further reduced and a small size is made possible.
- the movable connection electrode 4 is simultaneously the display means.
- the movable connection electrode 4 has an extension inwardly into the housing 3f, wherein the housing 3f has a filling with an arc-extinguishing material at least in sections.
- the aim of the invention is therefore in the surge protection device 1 in addition to the thermal fuse (separation device) to integrate an additional overcurrent protection adapted to the requirements and the short-circuit strength of the construction.
- the goal is achieved by a summary of these two completely different requirements (the thermal separation and the Overcurrent separation) in one component.
- the varistor 2 is in this case usually "alloyed", and has a reduced power loss and therefore generates less heat.
- the fault current can nevertheless assume very high values, which can correspond to the short-circuit current of the voltage source. Therefore, such a fuse requires a breaking capacity up to the kA range.
- the "dual function" in a fuse element reduces costs and parts, assembly costs, and is suitable for the application for the protection of surge protection components 1 to meet the safety and normative requirements.
- the transient pulse strength of the selected fuse elements must be particularly high, or adapted to the surge current resistance. This usually represents a compromise between a required minimum strength (ie no tripping in the range of the specified surge current capability of the surge protective device) and a safe and rapid triggering for the short-circuit protection or a failure of one of the internal components.
- Surge protection device 1 electrical connections 1a, 1b protection component 2 elec. Connections of the protection component 2a, 2b fuse 3 cap 3a, 3b solder 3c fuse wire 3d retaining wire 3e casing 3f Mobile connection electrode 4 Flexible electrical connection 5 preload 6 slings 7 guide 8th
