Le volume de la mousse et la stabilité de la mousse sont déterminés selon un procédé de mesure SITA normalisé. On fait varier la nature chimique et/ou la concentration de l'agent moussant, du solvant et de l'actif cosmétique jusqu'à ce que la mousse ainsi produite par le procédé de mesure SITA présente un volume d'au moins 400 ml et ait une stabilité telle que la mousse ait encore, après un temps de pose allant jusqu'à dix minutes, 50 % du volume qui était présent au départ immédiatement après la production de la mousse.
