Definitions
- the invention relates to an extension cord, in particular an extension cord for socket outlets with earthing contact.
- Extension cords such as those used in the home and in the commercial sector, are known. These are in particular extension cords for socket systems with earthing contact plugs, in particular plugs of type F or CEE 7/4.
- Extension cords typically include a plug that is connected to an outlet or power strip by a flexible cord. With such extension cords, a socket outlet can be provided at a desired location. If a power strip is used, it can also be used to increase the number of sockets in order to be able to connect multiple devices.
- the disadvantage is that the socket on the wall is blocked by the plug of the extension cable and no more devices can be plugged in at this point.
- adapters In order to provide a number of connections at a socket, adapters are also known which can be inserted into a socket and have a number of connection sockets. If an extension is now required at the same time, it is now conceivable to plug an extension cable into the adapter.
- adapters and extension cords are not permissible and can lead to dangers, in particular due to the fact that a large number of current consumers with high current consumption can be connected to one socket.
- the document DE 20 2010 012 018 U1 shows an extension cord with a plug which has a socket on the back.
- the document GB 2 456 793 A shows a power supply with a power supply unit that has a socket on the back.
- U.S. 2002/0127917 A1 shows a connector with an overload protection, which includes a bimetallic contact.
- document U.S. 5,844,765 shows a plug with a protection circuit.
- the invention is based on the object of at least reducing the aforementioned disadvantages of the prior art.
- the invention relates to an extension cable which is designed as an extension cable for a socket outlet with earthing contact, in particular of the F-type plug.
- the extension cord includes a plug.
- this plug In the case of socket outlets with earthing contact, this plug usually has two connection contacts, namely phase and neutral, and a grounded protective conductor.
- the plug includes a housing which is formed from a dielectric material such as a plastic and in which the current-carrying contacts and the protective conductor are held.
- a flexible cable is inserted into this housing, with which the contacts of the plug are connected.
- a socket is also provided on the other side of the cable.
- This usually also has a dielectric housing into which the cable is inserted.
- the two housings are preferably connected directly to one another via the cable, such that the connection cannot be separated without opening one of the two housings.
- a further socket is arranged in the housing of the plug.
- the socket of the extension cable is therefore designed as a through socket and includes a socket that allows other devices to be plugged in at the point of the wall socket into which the extension cable is inserted.
- the further socket is preferably arranged on a side opposite the plug, the plug-in position is therefore the same.
- the integration of the socket in the housing of the plug prevents unwanted cascading of an adapter with an extension cable.
- the first socket ie the socket which sits at the outer end of the extension cord, is part of a power strip. Consequently, the extension cable is not only used for an extension while at the same time preserving the space of the wall socket, but as a multiple socket to plug in several devices.
- overload protection is arranged in the housing of the plug.
- the overload protection can be designed as a fuse or circuit breaker.
- the overload protection is designed as a fuse, in particular as a glass tube fuse.
- Such a fuse has a compact design and can be integrated in the housing of the connector without the size of the housing changing significantly.
- the overload protection ensures, particularly in the case of impermissible cascading of the extension cable, that there is no risk of overheating of the extension cable itself or the house-side lines and/or contacts due to excessive current flow.
- the overload protection is arranged both in front of the socket at the end of the extension cable and in front of the other socket, which is integrated in the housing of the plug.
- the overload protection is preferably accessible via a side of the housing on which the plug is arranged.
- the overload protection in particular the fuse, is no longer accessible. Manipulation of the overload protection is thus prevented as long as the extension cable is plugged in.
- An overload protection designed as a safety fuse can be arranged in particular behind a cover made of a dielectric material.
- the cover can contain a window, which in particular enables a view of the transparent part of a glass tube fuse. Since the fuse is made of a dielectric material in this area, the window can be designed as a simple opening.
- the cover has a holder for the fuse, so that the fuse is removed together with the cover when the cover is removed. This prevents the cover from being removed individually, i.e. without the fuse, which could lead to live areas of the fuse, such as the contacts, becoming accessible.
- a thermal fuse is arranged in the housing of the through socket as overload protection.
- the thermal fuse can preferably be reset using a reset mechanism.
- a reset pin is provided.
- the resetting mechanism is preferably arranged on the plug-side side of the through-type socket. This reduces the risk of manipulation to prevent or delay triggering of the thermal fuse.
- Thermal fuses as such are known. As a rule, these have a bimetallic strip which, in the case of resettable thermal fuses, is used to initiate a switching operation is triggered, which can only be reversed by the user after the bimetallic strip has cooled, so that an electrical connection can be established again.
- the thermal switch has the advantage that the user does not need a spare part. Rather, the function of the extension cord can be restored by resetting the thermal fuse.
- a mains filter is integrated in the housing of the connector in order to block unwanted frequencies.
- At least the socket in the housing of the plug is surrounded by a plug-in protection that blocks the insertion of a housing with larger dimensions than a plug itself.
- sections of the socket are surrounded by a web.
- FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of an extension cord 1, as it is not the subject of the invention.
- the extension cord includes a line 2 and a socket 3, which is designed as a safety socket.
- the extension cord is connected to an existing socket in a wall, for example.
- the socket is designed as a pass-through socket 4 and includes on the opposite side of the plug 5 another socket 6, which is connected to the socket 3 in parallel.
- the pass-through socket 4 includes overload protection, as will be explained in more detail below.
- Figure 12 shows another perspective view of an embodiment of the invention.
- the housing 9 of the pass-through socket 4 can be seen.
- the power strip 7 includes three sockets 3a, 3b, 3c.
- the power strip can include a higher or lower number of sockets.
- the power strip 7 also includes a power switch 8 with which the devices plugged into the power strip 7 can be switched off.
- the housing of the power strip 7 and the housing 9 of the through-socket 4 are inseparably connected to each other via the line 2, so they cannot be separated from one another without opening or breaking open one of the two housings with a tool.
- FIG 3 shows a perspective view of the in 1 and 2 shown pass-through socket 4, which is connected via line 2.
- the housing consists of a lower housing part 13 and an upper housing part 10. These two components can be screwed. However, it is also conceivable to weld or glue the housing parts to one another.
- a cover 11 is arranged adjacent to the plug 5 and has a viewing window 13 which provides a view of a safety fuse.
- the safety fuse located behind the cover 11 serves as overload protection and can be designed for a maximum continuous load of 16 A, for example.
- the cover 11 is no longer accessible. It is thus ensured that the cover 11 can only be manipulated in the de-energized state.
- FIG 4 shows another perspective view of the pass-through socket, in which the housing is hidden.
- the contact pin 17 is connected to the contact 18 via the fuse 14 .
- the fuse 14 sits in a fuse holder 15, which is arranged below the components of the safety socket and via the in 3 cover shown is accessible.
- the fuse holder 15 sits between the contact pins of the plug and a strain relief 16.
- a child safety device 23 is integrated into the housing, via which the
- Passage openings for the contacts of the plug to be used are closed and only released when a contact pin is inserted on both sides at the same time.
- the basic structure of such a child safety device 23 is known to those skilled in the art.
- figure 5 shows a further detailed view of the overload protection.
- a base plate 19 made of metal can be seen.
- the base plate 19 has contact terminals 21 and 22 via which it is connected on one side via a line 20 to the contact pin and on the other side to the contact of the socket.
- Fig. 6 shows a further perspective detailed view of the pass-through socket, in which now only the housing but not the cover is hidden.
- the two contacts 26, 27 of the fuse holder designed as spring contacts can be seen.
- the cover 11 has a holder 25 for the fuse 14 .
- the holder 25 is essentially provided as a recess adapted to the fuse 14 .
- Fig. 7 shows another perspective view of the through socket 4.
- Fig. 8 shows a view of the through socket.
- a plug-in protection 24 is arranged on the wall side of the socket 6 in the form of a web running approximately halfway around the socket 6.
- the plug-in protection prevents components with a larger housing than a normal plug from being plugged in.
- the pass-through socket shown above cannot itself be plugged into another pass-through socket, which further improves security since impermissible cascading is prevented.
- Fig. 9 shows a through-type socket, which in terms of structure is essentially that in Figures 1 to 3 illustrated pass-through socket corresponds.
- a thermal fuse 28 is integrated into the housing 9 of the through socket 4 instead of a safety fuse.
- a rear half of the housing is hidden in the view according to FIG. 9 for better visibility.
- the thermal fuse 28 has a reset pin 29 as a reset means, which protrudes on the plug side from the housing 9 of the through socket 4 at least in the tripped state.
- the user can push the reset pin 29 back into the housing and thus restore the function of the extension cable.
- thermal fuse makes it possible to design the extension cable more conveniently than the fuse mentioned at the outset.
- the invention made it possible to provide a simply and securely constructed safety cable, in which the socket on the wall is not blocked.

Description
Fig. 3 dargestellte Abdeckung zugänglich ist.
-
Fig. 5 zeigt eine weitere Detailansicht des Überlastschutzes.
- Fig. 8 zeigt eine Ansicht der Durchgangssteckdose.
Fig. 1 bis Fig.3 dargestellten Durchgangssteckdose entspricht.
Fig. 1 ) bzw. Steckdosenleiste stromlos geschaltet.
