Claims (19)

  1. A book-forming and pressing machine, comprising a post-forming device (1), a pressing device (30) and a loading device (60), the loading device consisting of a loading table (62), and the pressing device consisting of a plurality of press plates (31, 32), spaced apart from one another, along with bum-in rails (35, 36), and the loading table being fitted with means which perform a supporting function in respect of the spine of a book block and are operatively involved in the forming thereof, whereas the means consist of at least one pair of prism plates (66, 67), which are spaced apart from one another and extend parallel or quasi-parallel to one another, characterized in that the prism plates each have at least one operatively connected engageable feed element (71), which is configured in such a way that, when engaged, it takes over the function of the prism plates in respect of a differently shaped book block spine.
  2. A book-forming and pressing machine according to Claim 1, characterized in that the feed element (71) is engaged through an adjustment in height relative to the prism plates (66, 67).
  3. A book-forming and pressing machine according to Claim 1, characterized in that the feed element (71) is height-adjustable on the inside of the prism plates (66, 67).
  4. A book-forming and pressing machine according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the height adjustment of the feed element (71) comprises a vertical or quasi-vertical movement and is achieved by means which transmit a translational movement to each feed element (71) on the outside of the prism plates (66, 67).
  5. A book-forming and pressing machine according to Claim 4, characterized in that the means for the translational movement of the feed element (71) are controlled mechanically, pneumatically, hydraulically or are motor-driven.
  6. A book-forming and pressing machine according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the height of the feed element (71) is adjusted to at least the upper edge of the prism plate (66, 67).
  7. A book-forming and pressing machine according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the prism plates (66, 67) consist of narrow, oblong bars.
  8. A book-forming and pressing machine according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the gap formed by the spacing between the prism plates (66, 67) can be adjusted down to around zero.
  9. A book-forming and pressing machine according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that a number of feed elements (71) are disposed along the length of the prism plates (66, 67).
  10. A book-forming and pressing machine according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the prism plates (66, 67) associated with the mounted feed elements (71) have a corresponding number of guide channels (68).
  11. A book-forming and pressing machine according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the adjustable elements (71) of the opposing prism plates (66, 67) are offset relative to one another.
  12. A book-forming and pressing machine according to Claim 11, characterized in that at least one of the prism plates (66, 67) has recesses (69), which are provided opposite the feed elements (71) of the other prism plate (66, 67) and ensure free movement of the feed elements (71).
  13. A book-forming and pressing machine according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the prism plates (66, 67) and the feed element (71) have upper bearing surfaces (79, 80) which are operatively engaged in such a way as to conform to the particular shape of the book block spine (39).
  14. A book-forming and pressing machine according to Claim 13, characterized in that the upper bearing surface (80) of the prism plate (66, 67) has an inward-extending bevelled edge (80) for a rounded book block spine (37).
  15. A book-forming and pressing machine according to Claim 13, characterized in that the upper bearing surface (79) of the feed element (71) has a flat or quasi-flat surface (79) for a flat book block spine (38).
  16. A book-forming and pressing machine according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the feed element (71) is coupled with a safety element (72), which functions as a limit stop in direction of movement.
  17. A book-forming and pressing machine according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that adjustability of the feed element (71) is achieved by a fluid-operated lifting cylinder (74).
  18. A book-forming and pressing machine according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that at least one of the prism plates (66, 67) has channels (77) for a fluid medium.
  19. A book production line including a book-forming and pressing machine according to one of Claims 1 to 18.
