Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for brightening grinding wheel or grinding wheel, based on diamond grains.
- Centerless grinding is a known grinding process known for the grinding of cylindrical workpieces, particularly for nuclear fuel pellets.
- a centerless grinding machine usually comprises two grinding wheels, one of which is a grinding wheel, which is used to rotate the pellets on themselves by moving them on a guide rail, called the enfilade rule in the case of nuclear fuel pellets, and the other is a working wheel and has the function of machining, that is to say rectify the diameter of the pellets.
- a grinding wheel usually comprises at its periphery, as grinding elements, diamond-based bands attached by a metal binder or a resin. In the case of grinding wheels for nuclear fuel pellets, there are three types of strips: one for roughing, another for semi-finishing and the last for finishing pellets.
- the efficiency of machining the grinding wheel depends on the condition of the diamonds and its fouling. To give teeth to the grinding wheel, it is necessary to perform a sharpening using corundum sticks.
- the brightening is done by hand.
- an operator inserts a corundum stick with a tool through the access door at the rear of a frame in which the grinder is arranged.
- the operator then tries to position at best the corundum stick, that is to say, the closest to the perpendicular to the grinding wheel.
- a small effort dependent on and brought by the manual pressure of the operator is thus applied by the corundum stick on the grinding wheel. While applying this effort, the operator tries to move at best the corundum stick over the entire width of the wheel.
- the operator could consume up to about ten sticks of corundum. This operation may also involve a significant risk for the operator as well as risks damage to the grinding wheel by breaking a corundum stick in the frame.
- the grinding tool of the grinding wheel has been developed to avoid these risks and to improve brightening.
- the general object of the invention is the improvement of the brightening quality of the working wheel, and therefore of the ground parts, more particularly nuclear fuel pellets.
- a particular aim is to reduce the risks incurred by an operator in charge of the brightening manually according to the state of the art and the risks of damage incurred by the grinding wheel.

- the brightening device according to the invention minimizes the risks and makes brightening more efficient, more precise and more reliable.
- the brightening device according to the invention increases the life of a grinding wheel and improves the quality of the parts ground by it such as nuclear fuel pellets.
- the sheath comprises an upwardly open groove of cross section with respect to its U-shaped longitudinal axis.
- rollers corundum stick mounted in the sleeve substantially at the same longitudinal side, two of the rollers being opposite one another and each mounted on a branch of the U of the groove and the third being mounted on the top of the U of the groove, the space between the rollers and the bottom of the U of the groove being of dimensions corresponding to the nominal transverse dimensions of the corundum stick.
- the rollers thus facilitate the guiding of the corundum stick, reduce friction and provide an anti-vibration function of the corundum stick in the sheath.
- the cylinder is preferably a double-acting cylinder to further allow the distance of the corundum stick from the grinding wheel.
- the jack is preferably still a pneumatic cylinder regulated by a pressure regulator.
- the pressure of a pneumatic cylinder regulated ensures an effective brightening without much pressure on the grinding wheel.
- the linear guide means are preferably constituted by dry running rails.
- the device according to the invention may comprise two end stops of the linear guide means for limiting the displacement of the corundum stick to the width of the working wheel.
- the device advantageously comprises a carriage in two parts pivotable relative to each other, the lower part of the carriage being permanently guided by the linear guide means, the upper part of the pivoting carriage between a rest position in which the sleeve is substantially parallel to the axis of the grinding wheel and a brightening position in which the sleeve is substantially perpendicular to the axis of the grinding wheel.
- a lever for manually locking the pivoting of the upper part of the carriage can be provided.
- the invention also relates to a brightening assembly for use in brightening a work wheel, comprising a corundum stick and a workpiece, one end of the workpiece being molded on the corundum stick, the workpiece including to the other its ends a mortise groove adapted to house the cylinder rod of the device described above, forming a tenon constituting a dovetail assembly between the post and the mortise.
- a brightening assembly for use in brightening a work wheel, comprising a corundum stick and a workpiece, one end of the workpiece being molded on the corundum stick, the workpiece including to the other its ends a mortise groove adapted to house the cylinder rod of the device described above, forming a tenon constituting a dovetail assembly between the post and the mortise.
- the piece may include a gripping pin to allow manual insertion of the corundum stick into the sleeve when new and its manual removal once worn.
