- VLC Visible Light Communication
- conventional light bulbs or - due to the achievable high transfer rates - especially fast switching LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) can be used as light sources.
- a transmission of the data takes place by means of a modulation of the light emitted by the light source, wherein the modulation preferably takes place in such a way that it is not recognizable or disturbing to the human eye.
- VLC virtualized local area network
- the task of corresponding traffic signal systems is usually to transmit to the driver or captain of the respective vehicle information necessary for operation, which information is to be subsequently implemented or taken into account by the driver or captain.
- this is a driver indicated by a corresponding signal that he has to slow down or stop his traction vehicle due to an existing occupancy of lying in front of him in the direction of travel track section.
- VLC now offers the possibility of extending the existing infrastructure so that the visually transmitted signal information can also be transmitted in an automatic form evaluable from a track facility to a vehicle.
- a corresponding method in which data is transmitted by means of visible light from a track-side device to a vehicle or a vehicle-side device for example, from the article "Visible Light Communication Systems Conception and VIDAS", IETE Technical Review, Vol. 25, Issue 6, November - December 2008 by Navin Kumar, Nuno Louren o, Michael Spiez and Rui L. Aguiar known.
- an intelligent traffic system is described here in which data are transmitted to vehicles in the form of cars by track-side devices in the form of traffic lights equipped with LEDs.
- a train influencing device for radio-based transmission of data signals to a rail vehicle located in the application region of at least one railway signal.
- the data signals indicate the signal concept as well as a signal identifier of the respective railway signal.
- the rail vehicle has a receiving device receiving the data signals, which utilizes exclusively those data signals of the received data signals which contain as a signal identifier a desired identifier identifying the railway signal to which the rail vehicle is to advance.
- a corresponding localization can in this case take place in such a way that the light emitted by light signals of a traffic light is modulated with an identifier identifying the traffic light.
- the relevant identifier is extracted from the received light signal and compared with identification information, which is received on the vehicle side separately with a reference image or video data radio-based. Based on a comparison of the identifier received by means of the light signal, the associated reference image is selected and displayed in the vehicle.
- the present invention has for its object to provide a method for transmitting data from a trackside device to a vehicle that is versatile and suitable for safety-critical requirements due to its reliability.
- This object is achieved by a method for transmitting data from a trackside device to a vehicle, wherein from the trackside device, a light signal in the form of modulated with the data to be transmitted visible light is emitted, wherein the data to be transmitted to a trackside device identifying identifier, which is compared by the vehicle received by the light signal identifier with an expected identifier, wherein the expected identifier is determined by the vehicle by means of an electronic Streckenatlasses and / or by means of a navigation device, and the data received by the light signal from the side of the vehicle be discarded, if in the comparison a Deviation between the received identifier and the expected identifier is detected.
- the invention is based on the recognition that the use of visible light for the transmission of data in practice is very difficult in many applications in the field of mobility. For example, a plurality of light-emitting track-side devices, for example in the form of traffic signal systems, are frequently encountered, so that a superposition of the light of different light sources takes place. Moreover, other disturbances, such as reflections, may also result in errors in the transmission of data from the trackside device to the vehicle using visible light. Basically applicable methods for optical focusing and / or interference evaluation for blanking or eliminating unwanted portions of the received light have the fundamental disadvantage that it is not ensured that these methods work reliably under all conditions. This is especially true for safety critical requirements, i. For example, in the case of transmission of control data from the trackside facilities to the vehicle, problematic or unacceptable.
- a light signal in the form of visible light modulated with the data to be transmitted is emitted by the trackside device, wherein the data comprises an identifier identifying the trackside device.
- the identifier identifying the trackside device advantageously provides the prerequisite for it allows the vehicle to identify the sending trackside facility.
- the identifier received by means of the light signal for this purpose is compared by the vehicle with an expected identifier.
- the invention advantageously makes use of the fact that in many cases or operational situations it is known from which trackside device a received light signal should have been transmitted. This applies both to traffic systems with vehicles in the form of cars, aircraft or ships, and in particular in the case of a traffic system with track-bound vehicles such as rail vehicles.
- the route is clearly defined by the tracking.
- the data received by the light signal is discarded by the vehicle. This means that a further evaluation or use of this data, for example for controlling the vehicle, does not take place. Thus, it becomes the vehicle in particular at the same time receiving multiple light signals makes it possible to reliably detect the operationally relevant signal even in situations which are difficult due to the transmission conditions and to continue to consider only the data received with this light signal in the following.
- the method according to the invention furthermore offers the advantage that it creates the prerequisite for a considerable simplification of the infrastructure of existing traffic systems.
- signal lamps which, if necessary, is monitored by technical systems, whether the driver observes the signal.
- the signals as such may have very different functions, from safety-relevant functions, such as e.g. for main signals, to purely operational functions, e.g. at a departure signal.
- a monitoring of the correct implementation of information received visually or optically by the driver is hitherto ensured, for example, in train protection systems in that the signal information is additionally transmitted via a further transmission path to a vehicle device of the vehicle. This can, for example, be done inductively by means of coupling coils, balises or current loops laid in front of a signal.
- the method according to the invention makes it possible for a light signal emitted by a trackside device to be used both for visual signaling to a vehicle driver and for simultaneous data transmission to a receiving or sensor device of the vehicle even in safety-relevant applications.
- a video camera in conjunction with a processing device can be used as the sensor device.
- the data transmitted to the vehicle by the trackside device is preferably control data which acts directly or indirectly on a vehicle control of the vehicle.
- the data transmitted to the vehicle by the trackside device within the scope of the method according to the invention can in principle also consist exclusively of the identifier identifying the trackside device.
- the expected identifier is determined by the vehicle by means of an electronic Streckenatlasses. This allows the vehicle, knowing its position, such as its location along a railway line, in a low-effort and simple way to determine the trackside device from which the reception of a light signal is expected at the given time or at the given location.
- the expected identifier itself can be taken from the electronic route atlas itself or, based on the information from the electronic route atlas, from another storage device of the rail vehicle.
- the expected identifier can be determined by the vehicle according to the invention also by means of a navigation device.
- the track-side devices or their expected identifiers advantageously also in navigation devices, For example, in the form of satellite-based navigation devices using GPS (Global Positioning System), deposited.
- the data are transmitted by a trackside device in the form of a traffic signal.
- traffic signal in the context of the description of the present invention for signaling by visible light used devices of any kind. This includes in particular traffic lights or electronic signs of road traffic, train signals, components of the tarmac in air traffic or warning lights used in shipping, flares or also beacons of lighthouses.

- this device is designed to determine the expected identifier on the basis of an announcement signal previously received by a trackside device.
- the vehicle-mounted device according to the invention can also be developed such that it is designed to determine its position on the basis of the received identifier. Since the vehicle-mounted device is arranged in and / or on the vehicle, this corresponds directly to a determination of the position of the vehicle as such.
- the invention further comprises a system for influencing the vehicle with at least one vehicle-side device according to the invention or at least one vehicle-mounted device according to one of the preferred refinements of the vehicle-side device according to the invention and with at least one trackside device with means for emitting the light signal.

- track double coils or balises can be used for the transmission of the corresponding control data.
- a light signal in the form of visible light 11 modulated by the data to be transmitted is now emitted by the trackside device 10.
- the modulation may be a pulsing of the visible light, for example by rapid switching on and off of the signal lamp of the trackside device 10 that is imperceptible to the human eye.
- a corresponding pulsation can also take place, for example, by a variation of the light intensity, whereby data or information can be transmitted in digital or analog form in the form of intensity fluctuations.
- other modulation methods known per se for the transmission of the data by modulation of the visible light can be used.
- the data to be transmitted from the trackside device 10 are continuously, cyclically repeating emitted.

- a clear signal detection is guaranteed even in operationally unclear situations, whereby only a corresponding transmission of data by means of visible light from a trackside device to a vehicle in safety-critical applications or systems, such as systems for train control, can be used.
- the method according to the invention offers the advantage that it functions reliably at any time and independently of the respective operating or ambient conditions.
- the inventive method is advantageously versatile, since it can be used everywhere there using a simple migration concept, where already now data or signal information is visually or visually transmitted to a driver.
- data which in the simplest case only contain a few bytes of information, can be transmitted from a trackside device to a vehicle.
- the data can be detected or received in a technically comparatively simple manner by a sensor device, for example in the form of a camera, and forwarded for evaluation or consideration to the respective application, ie for example a train-influencing device.

Description
In particular, due to the ubiquitous availability of light sources, the simultaneous use of the light emitted by these light sources as an information carrier for data transmission of great interest. Corresponding communication systems, referred to as Visible Light Communication (VLC) systems, are therefore considered for a wide variety of areas and applications. In this case, for example, conventional light bulbs or - due to the achievable high transfer rates - especially fast switching LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) can be used as light sources. Irrespective of this, in the context of VLC a transmission of the data takes place by means of a modulation of the light emitted by the light source, wherein the modulation preferably takes place in such a way that it is not recognizable or disturbing to the human eye.
Also in connection with different traffic systems, the use of VLC to increase the automation offers. This is particularly true where already today traffic lights, eg in the form of traffic lights in traffic, in the form of rail signals in rail transport or in the form of a tarmac in air traffic, are used. In this case, the task of corresponding traffic signal systems is usually to transmit to the driver or captain of the respective vehicle information necessary for operation, which information is to be subsequently implemented or taken into account by the driver or captain. For example, this is a driver indicated by a corresponding signal that he has to slow down or stop his traction vehicle due to an existing occupancy of lying in front of him in the direction of travel track section.
In principle, VLC now offers the possibility of extending the existing infrastructure so that the visually transmitted signal information can also be transmitted in an automatic form evaluable from a track facility to a vehicle. A corresponding method in which data is transmitted by means of visible light from a track-side device to a vehicle or a vehicle-side device, for example, from the article "Visible Light Communication Systems Conception and VIDAS", IETE Technical Review, Vol. 25, Issue 6, November - December 2008 by Navin Kumar, Nuno Louren o, Michael Spiez and Rui L. Aguiar known. Thus, an intelligent traffic system is described here in which data are transmitted to vehicles in the form of cars by track-side devices in the form of traffic lights equipped with LEDs.

The present invention has for its object to provide a method for transmitting data from a trackside device to a vehicle that is versatile and suitable for safety-critical requirements due to its reliability.
This object is achieved by a method for transmitting data from a trackside device to a vehicle, wherein from the trackside device, a light signal in the form of modulated with the data to be transmitted visible light is emitted, wherein the data to be transmitted to a trackside device identifying identifier, which is compared by the vehicle received by the light signal identifier with an expected identifier, wherein the expected identifier is determined by the vehicle by means of an electronic Streckenatlasses and / or by means of a navigation device, and the data received by the light signal from the side of the vehicle be discarded, if in the comparison a Deviation between the received identifier and the expected identifier is detected.
The invention is based on the recognition that the use of visible light for the transmission of data in practice is very difficult in many applications in the field of mobility.
In order to avoid triggering false or undesired actions by data received from the vehicle on the one hand on the one hand versatile and on the other hand particularly reliable way, according to the invention a light signal in the form of visible light modulated with the data to be transmitted is emitted by the trackside device, wherein the data comprises an identifier identifying the trackside device. In this case, the identifier identifying the trackside device advantageously provides the prerequisite for it allows the vehicle to identify the sending trackside facility.
According to the invention, the identifier received by means of the light signal for this purpose is compared by the vehicle with an expected identifier. In this case, the invention advantageously makes use of the fact that in many cases or operational situations it is known from which trackside device a received light signal should have been transmitted. This applies both to traffic systems with vehicles in the form of cars, aircraft or ships, and in particular in the case of a traffic system with track-bound vehicles such as rail vehicles.
Thus, especially in the latter case, the route is clearly defined by the tracking. In conjunction with further methods known per se for determining the position, it is thus possible to determine in advance in a comparatively simple manner the trackside device relevant for the respective situation. This makes it possible for the vehicle to make an identification or check of the received light signal or of the transmitting trackside device on the basis of the comparison of the received by the light signal identifier with the expected identifier.
If a difference between the received identifier and the expected identifier is found in the comparison, the data received by the light signal is discarded by the vehicle.
The method according to the invention furthermore offers the advantage that it creates the prerequisite for a considerable simplification of the infrastructure of existing traffic systems. Thus, for example, in railway technology so far signal terms are visually transmitted to a driver of a rail vehicle. This is done by means of signal lamps, which, if necessary, is monitored by technical systems, whether the driver observes the signal. The signals as such may have very different functions, from safety-relevant functions, such as e.g. for main signals, to purely operational functions, e.g. at a departure signal. A monitoring of the correct implementation of information received visually or optically by the driver is hitherto ensured, for example, in train protection systems in that the signal information is additionally transmitted via a further transmission path to a vehicle device of the vehicle. This can, for example, be done inductively by means of coupling coils, balises or current loops laid in front of a signal.
By means of the method according to the invention, it is now fundamentally possible to dispense entirely or partially with corresponding additional transmission devices. Thus, the method according to the invention makes it possible for a light signal emitted by a trackside device to be used both for visual signaling to a vehicle driver and for simultaneous data transmission to a receiving or sensor device of the vehicle even in safety-relevant applications. In this case, for example, a video camera in conjunction with a processing device can be used as the sensor device.
The data transmitted to the vehicle by the trackside device is preferably control data which acts directly or indirectly on a vehicle control of the vehicle.
It should be pointed out that the data transmitted to the vehicle by the trackside device within the scope of the method according to the invention can in principle also consist exclusively of the identifier identifying the trackside device.
According to the invention, the expected identifier is determined by the vehicle by means of an electronic Streckenatlasses. This allows the vehicle, knowing its position, such as its location along a railway line, in a low-effort and simple way to determine the trackside device from which the reception of a light signal is expected at the given time or at the given location. In this case, the expected identifier itself can be taken from the electronic route atlas itself or, based on the information from the electronic route atlas, from another storage device of the rail vehicle.
Alternatively or in addition to determining the expected identifier by means of an electronic Streckenatlasses the expected identifier can be determined by the vehicle according to the invention also by means of a navigation device. Thus, the track-side devices or their expected identifiers advantageously also in navigation devices, For example, in the form of satellite-based navigation devices using GPS (Global Positioning System), deposited.
According to a particularly preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the data are transmitted by a trackside device in the form of a traffic signal. The term "traffic signal" in the context of the description of the present invention for signaling by visible light used devices of any kind. This includes in particular traffic lights or electronic signs of road traffic, train signals, components of the tarmac in air traffic or warning lights used in shipping, flares or also beacons of lighthouses.
According to a further particularly preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the data are transmitted by a trackside device in the form of a lighting device. In the context of the description of the present invention, such a device is referred to as a lighting device whose emitted light usually exclusively or essentially serves illumination purposes. Advantageously, corresponding lighting devices in the form of lamps in human everyday life both inside and outside of buildings in a variety of forms are available.
Preferably, the method according to the invention can also be developed in such a way that the data is transmitted by a lighting device arranged in a tunnel. This is advantageous, as a result, for example, in the case of vehicles in the form of rail vehicles, a particularly simple and reliable localization of the vehicle in the tunnel is made possible. Thus, for example, by means of a vehicle-side directional camera, the light signal from the illumination device just received until the vehicle in question at the lighting device, ie the light source, has passed. It can thus be concluded that the vehicle is at the location of the illumination device at the time when the respective light signal on the vehicle side is no longer received. For this purpose, it is basically sufficient for the data transmitted to the vehicle by the trackside device to consist exclusively of the identifier identifying the trackside device. Alternatively, further information can be transmitted by means of the data to the vehicle even in the event that the data is transmitted by a lighting device arranged in a tunnel. This may be, for example, the distance to the nearest in the direction of travel lighting device or other relevant to the vehicle information or dependencies.
According to a further particularly preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the data is transmitted to a vehicle in the form of a track-bound vehicle, in particular a rail vehicle. This is advantageous, since the expected identifier can be determined in a particularly simple and reliable manner, particularly in the case of track-bound vehicles by the vehicle in a particularly simple and reliable manner. The reason for this is the tracking and a variety of already known methods for determining the position or location of a track-bound vehicle.
In accordance with a further particularly preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the expected identification on the part of the vehicle is based on a previously from a trackside Device received announcement signal determined. In this case, the announcement signal can be received by the vehicle by means of visible light or by means of other transmission paths. This includes, for example, inductive or radio-based transmission of the advertisement signal.
According to a further particularly preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the position of the vehicle is determined on the basis of the received identifier. This means that further evaluation and use by the vehicle can not only take place with regard to data received in addition to the identifier of the trackside device. Instead, the position of the vehicle can also be determined on the basis of the received identifier itself by the vehicle or - after prior transmission of the corresponding information - for example, also by a central control device of a traffic system, for example in the form of a control center. This basically applies to trackside devices of any kind, i. in particular both for trackside facilities in the form of traffic lights and in the form of lighting equipment. Since corresponding track-side devices are usually positioned at known, fixed locations along a route of the vehicle, it is possible to deduce the position or location of the vehicle from the reception of the light signal verified by the received identifier directly from a trackside device.
The invention also relates to a vehicle-side device.
With regard to the vehicle-side device, the present invention has the object to provide a vehicle-side device that supports a versatile and also very reliable method for transmitting data from a trackside device to a vehicle.
This object is achieved by a vehicle-side device having means for receiving a light signal in the form of modulated with data to be transmitted visible light from a trackside device, wherein the data to be transmitted comprise the track-side device identifying identifier for comparing received by means of the light signal Identification with an expected identifier and discarding the data received with the light signal, if in the comparison, a deviation between the received identifier and the expected identifier is detected, wherein the vehicle-mounted device for determining the expected identifier by means of an electronic Streckenatlasses and / or by means of a Navigation device is formed.

The same applies with regard to the preferred developments of the vehicle-mounted device which are named below with regard to the corresponding preferred developments of the method according to the invention, so that reference is also made in this regard to the corresponding previous explanations. Preferably, the vehicle-side device according to the invention is designed such that it is a device of a train control system.
According to a further particularly preferred embodiment of the vehicle-mounted device according to the invention, this device is designed to determine the expected identifier on the basis of an announcement signal previously received by a trackside device.
Advantageously, the vehicle-mounted device according to the invention can also be developed such that it is designed to determine its position on the basis of the received identifier. Since the vehicle-mounted device is arranged in and / or on the vehicle, this corresponds directly to a determination of the position of the vehicle as such.
The invention further comprises a system for influencing the vehicle with at least one vehicle-side device according to the invention or at least one vehicle-mounted device according to one of the preferred refinements of the vehicle-side device according to the invention and with at least one trackside device with means for emitting the light signal.
Preferably, the system according to the invention for vehicle control is configured such that the trackside device is a traffic signal system. In this case, the traffic signal system can advantageously be part of a system for influencing a track-bound vehicle, in particular a rail vehicle, ie a train control system.
According to a further particularly preferred embodiment of the system according to the invention for influencing vehicles, the trackside device is a lighting device. The figure shows a
In the context of train control systems is usually a partial or complete automatic control of rail vehicles. For this purpose, additional components are usually provided in or on the track, by means of which information, such as in the form of signal information, are transmitted to the
In the context of the described embodiment of the method according to the invention, a light signal in the form of
In simple operating conditions, an assignment of the light signal received by the vehicle to an emitting track-
In order nevertheless to be able to make a clear identification of the received light signal, the method according to the invention advantageously makes use of the fact that in many operational situations it is known which route the
The data transmitted by the
The received by means of the light signal identifier is compared by the
If the comparison of the received identifier with the expected identifier results in a deviation, the data received by the light signal is discarded by the
If the identifier received by means of the light signal coincides with the expected identifier, the data acquired by means of the sensor device, which may be a video camera, for example, is passed on to a
The
It should be noted that the demodulation of the received light signal, ie the extraction of the received data, both by the
According to the embodiments described above, the invention makes it possible, in particular even with simultaneous reception of different light signals or other difficult conditions, to reliably recognize the operationally relevant signal and, accordingly, to evaluate and further process only this signal in the following. As a result, a clear signal detection is guaranteed even in operationally unclear situations, whereby only a corresponding transmission of data by means of visible light from a trackside device to a vehicle in safety-critical applications or systems, such as systems for train control, can be used. In particular, the method according to the invention offers the advantage that it functions reliably at any time and independently of the respective operating or ambient conditions.
The inventive method is advantageously versatile, since it can be used everywhere there using a simple migration concept, where already now data or signal information is visually or visually transmitted to a driver. By means of a modulation of the visible light used in this case additionally data, which in the simplest case only contain a few bytes of information, can be transmitted from a trackside device to a vehicle.
On the vehicle side, the data can be detected or received in a technically comparatively simple manner by a sensor device, for example in the form of a camera, and forwarded for evaluation or consideration to the respective application, ie for example a train-influencing device. In the case of a train control system In this case, for example, in addition to the actual signal information, additional evaluation or speed information can be transmitted to a rail vehicle.
