Definitions
- the invention relates to the field of defoliants, in particular thidiazuron-containing mixtures and their use in cotton crops.
- Thidiazuron has been known for some time as a defoliant, particularly for use in cotton crops (see, eg, "The e-Pesticide Manual,” Version 4.0, 2006-07, or “The Pesticide Manual,” 14th Edition, British Crop Protection Council, Hampshire 2006).
- (B) one or more compounds from the group of herbicidal 1, 2,4-triazinones.
- the above mixture may also contain as component (A) the mixture of thidiazuron and diuron.
- the mixtures according to the invention are particularly suitable for use as defoliants in cotton crops, for example, by a fast and / or increased effect or lower expenditure amounts.
- defoliant is synonymous with “defoliant” and “desiccant” and also includes the known growth-regulatory effect of thidiazuron and thidiazuron-containing mixtures.
- thidiazuron and diuron used for component (A) are known and commercially available: thidiazuron and diuron from Bayer Crop Science.
- the active compounds are described with details of preparation, mixing and handling, for example, in "The Pesticide Manual", 14th Edition (supra) and have the following entry numbers: Thidiazuron 814, Diuron 291.
- Preferred as component (A) is thidiazuron.
- the compounds which can be used for component (B) belong to the chemical class of the herbicidal 1, 2,4-triazinones. This group and its effectiveness as Herbicides are known and are described, for example, in "The Pesticide Manual” (see above) Important active substances (ai) from this group are metribuzin and metamitron They are commercially available: metribuzin and metamitron from Bayer CropScience.

- Particularly suitable for the application are those methods which are customary for the application of the individual active ingredients and allow a common application.
- the application can in principle also be carried out by successive applications of the individual active ingredients (components), wherein the possible time interval can be determined in simple, routine preliminary tests. However, preferred is the common application. If appropriate, the active compounds can also be used in combination with other crop protection agents.
- the application rate of a single active substance in the combination compared to the amount of effort of the respective single active substance is significantly reduced when used alone.
- the optimum choice of the weight ratio and the application rates depends, for example, on the developmental stage, on environmental factors and climatic conditions or also on the type of additionally employed pesticide active ingredients and can be quickly determined by the person skilled in the art in simple routine experiments.
