Description

  • The present invention relates to a yacht. A yacht is usually constructed from different decks situated one above another. It is often desirable, if not essential, to provide a number of accommodation areas with a view over the bow. A wheelhouse of such a yacht will in any case have to have a view over the bow. The same is often desired by owners who wish to have an accommodation over the bow because of the associated sensation. However, if all these requirements and wishes have to be fulfilled, a yacht would consist of a hull with a superstructure thereon towering extremely high above the hull.
  • In relation to the invention, the disclosure of DE-199.12.612 constitutes the closest prior art, from which some features of the invention are known for a passenger ship. Further, reference is made here to the disclosure of GB-926.943 .
  • The present invention has for its object to provide a solution to this problem, for which purpose a yacht according to the present invention is defined in claim 1.
  • With a yacht as according to claim 1 it is possible to give people standing or sitting in a space defined by the intermediate deck a view over the bow, while a space located at an angle therebehind and thereabove also has a view over the bow without an additional deck having to be formed for this purpose.
  • It would be very well possible in principle to make the yacht longer and then also increase the height of the superstructure in order to create space for such an additional deck without here jeopardizing the sleek design of the yacht. Because of current regulations and insurance issues however, it is extremely useful in many cases for a yacht to have dimensions smaller than about 47 to 50 m in order to keep the yacht below 500 tons in volume.
  • With the invention it is possible to provide a plurality of accommodation areas and for instance a wheelhouse, as well as an owner apartment, with a view over the bow without this detracting from the sleek form of a yacht and without having to over-dimension the superstructure on top of the hull and above the level of the bow for this purpose.
  • The present invention has diverse preferred embodiments, which are defined in the dependent claims. The intermediate deck can thus be a module on the front side of the superstructure. Such a module can be incorporated in the yacht in simple manner during construction, and it would then even be possible to prefabricate such a module.
  • The intermediate deck preferably has a width narrower than the width of the superstructure. It is then possible to provide a longitudinal pathway along the module or the intermediate deck, for instance to a space located at an angle in front of and below the intermediate deck or the module. It can likewise be possible or necessary for this purpose for the intermediate deck to have a width narrower than the width of the hull. This will however usually already be the case when the intermediate deck is narrower than the superstructure, since the hull is usually wider than the superstructure. In such an embodiment a yacht can here be formed such that on at least one side of the intermediate deck a passageway is provided to an accommodation from the level of the main deck between the intermediate deck and the bow. Such an accommodation can be a normal space, such as a conference room or cabin.
  • In yet another preferred embodiment a yacht according to the invention can have the feature that the intermediate deck has a single entrance from the level of the main deck. Owing to the absence of further entrances or exits, for instance to the upper deck, an isolated module can easily be realized.
  • Particularly the length of the upper deck in the superstructure is hereby also limited, so that the dimensioning again corresponds with that of a sleek and elegant yacht. The space at an angle behind and above the module or the intermediate deck need not therefore be accessed via the intermediate deck and for this reason also is readily suitable for use as owner accommodation, for instance an owner apartment. Such an owner apartment and the wheelhouse on the intermediate deck or in the module formed by the intermediate deck then both have a view over the bow.
  • Because no access need be provided in the vicinity of the intermediate deck from the main deck to the accommodation areas at an angle behind and above the intermediate deck, it also remains possible to make good use of space in the upper deck and, since no space need be reserved for such access, it is for instance possible to take another measure, such as a balcony on an owner apartment on the upper deck in the superstructure.
  • According to yet another preferred embodiment according to the invention with the wheelhouse on the intermediate deck, a yacht according to the invention can have the feature that a technical area is provided under the intermediate deck at the floor level of the main deck. This can for instance be filled with equipment related to navigation and other functionalities in or of the wheelhouse.
  • The present invention will be further described hereinbelow on the basis of a single embodiment of a yacht according to the invention, as shown in the accompanying figures, wherein the various views relate to a single yacht and the same or similar elements, components and aspects are designated with the same reference numerals. In the drawing:
    • fig. 1 is a side view of a yacht according to the present invention;
    • fig. 2 is a cut-away side view of the yacht shown in fig. 1; and
    • fig. 3 is a cut-away top view along arrow III in fig. 2.
  • Yacht 1 shown in fig. 1 comprises a hull 2, which is defined for the sake of convenience as that part of yacht 1 situated below the level of bow 3. From bow 3 the hull 2 runs in rearward direction toward stern 4. A superstructure 5 is arranged on hull 2 in a manner corresponding with the present invention, which is further elucidated hereinbelow.
  • As shown in fig. 2, a main deck 7 is arranged in hull 2, i.e. practically wholly below the level of bow 3. A lower deck 6 is further arranged under main deck 7. Above main deck 7 begins the superstructure, which is formed substantially from a complete upper deck 8. A bridge fly deck, sundeck or similar deck can then also be arranged above upper deck 8.
  • Situated on the front side of yacht 1, behind bow 3 as seen in the direction of travel of yacht 1, is a complete space, for instance a conference room or a cabin, at the level of main deck 7. At an angle above and behind this a wheelhouse is arranged on an intermediate deck 9, wherein a view is provided in forward direction over bow 3 from the wheelhouse on intermediate deck 9. For this purpose windows 10 run along the front side of the wheelhouse on intermediate deck 9.
  • Provided in turn at an angle behind and above intermediate deck 9 and on upper deck 8 is an accommodation which likewise has windows 11 on the front side for a view over the bow. Such a front space 12 on upper deck 8 can for instance serve as owner apartment 12, wherein a view over bow 3 is provided on the front side through windows 10,11 from both the wheelhouse and owner apartment 12. This is realized without having to provide an additional deck level.
  • The accommodation at an angle in front of and below intermediate deck 9 with the wheelhouse can be accessed along intermediate deck 9, as will be further described below with reference to fig. 3. Now that no access to owner apartment 12 on upper deck 8 need be provided from the intermediate deck 9 with the wheelhouse, a corresponding space has become available, which can be used to form a balcony on owner apartment 12, this balcony 13 being shown in fig. 1.
  • Equipment can be arranged in the space in fig. 2 defined by the floor of main deck 7 and intermediate deck 9, for instance equipment necessary for functioning of the navigation and other functionalities in the wheelhouse on intermediate deck 9. The space below intermediate deck 9 and above the floor of main deck 7 is too low to be used as accommodation, but this is not necessary anyway; arranging equipment therein relating to the functionalities of the wheelhouse is after all an appropriate solution.
  • Fig. 3 shows that the first space 14 at the level of main deck 7 behind bow 3 can be accessed via passage 15 along the intermediate deck 9 with the wheelhouse. Passage 15 leads to a door which gives access to room 14. A similar passage can likewise be present on the opposite side of intermediate deck 9. A stairway 16 can also be provided here for entry to the wheelhouse on intermediate deck 9, and there is then preferably no other entrance or exit to or from the wheelhouse on intermediate deck 9.
  • Many alternative and additional embodiments will occur to the skilled person after examination of the foregoing, all of which fall within the scope of protection of the invention provided here as defined in the appended claims, unless such alternative and additional embodiments cannot be deemed as embodiments according to the letter or spirit of the invention. It is thus possible within the scope of the invention for the accommodation on intermediate deck 9 to be given another use. An owner accommodation can also be provided on intermediate deck 9 instead of a wheelhouse, with the wheelhouse being at an angle above and at an angle behind the accommodation. Other options for use of the space on intermediate deck 9 and the space 12 at an angle thereabove and at an angle therebehind are also possible. The space below intermediate deck 9 and above the floor of main deck 7 can also be used for applications other than for equipment related to the functionalities of the wheelhouse on intermediate deck 9, for instance when no wheelhouse is provided on intermediate deck 9.
