Description

The present invention relates to the marking of products such as textiles, according to a method of marking using transfer sheets.

In general, a transfer sheet comprises a support sheet covered with a stack consisting of a marking layer and an adhesive layer.

The transfer sheet used can be of two types. A first type of transfer sheet, the most common, corresponds to the case where the marking layer is in full contact with the support sheet, the adhesive layer being placed on the top of the stack, on the marking layer. A second type of transfer sheet corresponds to the case where the adhesive layer is in full contact with the support sheet, the marking layer being placed on the top of the stack, on the adhesive layer.

When marking the product, with a transfer sheet of the first type, the transfer sheet is placed on the product so that the adhesive layer is in contact with the product. The back of the backing sheet is then pressed, usually by heating, so that the adhesive layer sticks to the product and carries with it the marking layer on the product. The support sheet is then removed, the stack of adhesive and marking layers remaining fixed to the product. In order to facilitate the transfer operation of this stack of layers from the carrier sheet to the product, the support sheet is preferably covered with a "detachment" layer, for example made of silicone.

In the case where a transfer sheet of the second type is used, it is necessary before the marking of the product, to take off the stack of the support sheet. The stack is then placed on the product so that the adhesive layer is in contact with the product. The stack is then pressed, generally by heating, so that the adhesive layer adheres to the product and allows the fixing of the stack on the product.

The common point between these two types of transfer sheet is that the carrier sheet serves only temporary support of the stack and is not ultimately present on the product. This feature distinguishes the transfer sheet from what is commonly known as a sticker for which the equivalent of the carrier sheet is a paper (or equivalent) on which the desired pattern is printed.

In the case of transfer sheets, the marking layer may be of different types depending on the type of marking that is desired to achieve. The marking layer can take various shapes and to present one or more colors according to the drawing, the pattern or the inscription which one wishes to finally realize on the product. The marking layer is for example composed of polyvinylchloride. The adhesive layer is for its part consisting of a hot melt glue.

In general, the present invention aims to form on a product, according to a transfer sheet-based marking method, a label having a tab not glued to the product and easily grasped to take off by pulling the product label.

An example of a method of manufacturing a transfer sheet according to the present invention is described below in connection with the Figures 1A and 1B .

The first step is to form on a support sheet 1 a marking layer 2 having the desired shape and color (s) for marking the target product, as illustrated in FIG. Figure 1A .

Then, on the marking layer 2, an adhesive layer 3 is formed. A transfer sheet F is then obtained. The adhesive layer 3 does not cover the entirety of the marking layer 2, so that part L of the layer marking is free and not covered by the adhesive layer.

The transfer sheet F obtained by the above-mentioned process is represented in plan view in figure 2 . In this example, the marking layer has a rectangular shape. Likewise, the adhesive layer has a rectangular shape with a surface area smaller than that of the marking layer. The adhesive layer covers only the central and right portions of the marking layer. The left side of the marking layer is not covered by the adhesive layer. The free part L is intended to constitute a tongue after apposition on a product.

A method of marking using the transfer sheet F is illustrated by the Figures 3A to 3B . The transfer sheet F is shown in section. A mechanical press 10 is used. It comprises a lower non-heating plate 10a, generally made of soft foam, and a generally metallic upper heating plate 10b.

In a first step, illustrated in figure 3A a textile 11 is placed on the non-heating plate 10a. The transfer sheet F is then placed on the textile 11 so that the adhesive layer 3 is in contact with the textile 11.

Sur effet de la chaleur et de la pression, la couche adhésive se fixe sur le textile 11.In a second step, not shown, the heating plate 10b is pressed against the rear face of the transfer sheet F on the side of the support sheet 20. On the effect of heat and pressure, the adhesive layer is fixed on the textile 11 .

In a third step, illustrated in figure 3B the heating plate 10b is raised. The carrier sheet 1 is then removed by pulling from one end of the well-chosen carrier sheet. More specifically, during this withdrawal, the support sheet is gradually peeled off the stack of marking and adhesive layers. This gradual takeoff must be initiated at an area of the stack D which is located at a distance from the free zone L.

Après retrait de la feuille support, la couche de marquage est donc collée sur le produit par la couche adhésive, excepté au niveau de la zone libre L.Indeed, when the support sheet is removed at the level of the stack of the two layers, the marking layer remains stuck to the adhesive layer because the marking layer adheres more to the adhesive layer that the support sheet. The carrier sheet can then be removed to the free zone L. At this point, when further removal of the carrier sheet, the free zone of the marking layer would naturally tend to stick on the carrier sheet. However, that part of the marking layer hooked to the product by the adhesive layer makes it possible to "pull" on the free zone L of the marking layer and to make it possible, by counter-traction, for the free zone L to be separated from the support sheet. After removal of the support sheet, the marking layer is thus adhered to the product by the adhesive layer, except at the level of the free zone L.

As illustrated in figure 4 , the free zone L then constitutes the equivalent of a tongue.

As illustrated in figure 5 , this tab can be entered, manually. The stack of marking and adhesive layers can then be removed by pulling on the tongue.

Another method of manufacturing a transfer sheet F 'according to the present invention is described below in connection with the figure 7 .

It begins by forming on a support sheet 20, an adhesive layer 21, for example by screen printing. A marking layer 22 is then formed having the desired shape and color (s) for marking the intended product. A transfer sheet F of the second type as defined above is then obtained. The marking layer 22 extends beyond the adhesive layer 21, so that a portion L of the marking layer is free and not in contact with the adhesive layer.

Comme précédemment, on utilise une presse mécanique 10 comprenant un plateau inférieur non-chauffant 10a et un plateau supérieur chauffant 10b.Another embodiment of a marking method using the transfer sheet F 'is illustrated by the Figures 8A to 8D . The transfer sheet F 'is shown in section. As before, a mechanical press 10 is used comprising a non-heating bottom plate 10a and a top heating plate 10b.

Afin de faciliter ce décollement, on pourra recouvrir la feuille support d'une couche « de détachement ».In a first step, illustrated in figure 8A the stack of the adhesive and marking layers 21 is peeled off. The presence of the free zone L advantageously allows the stack of the support sheet 20 to be easily detached. In order to facilitate this separation, the support sheet may be covered with a "detachment" layer.

In a second step, illustrated in Figure 8B a textile 23 is placed on the non-heating plate 10a. The stack previously removed from the backing sheet is then placed on the textile 11 so that the adhesive layer 21 is in contact with the textile 23.

In a third step, not shown, the heating plate 10b is pressed against the rear of the stack, on the side of the marking layer. On the effect of heat and pressure, the adhesive layer 21 is fixed on the textile 23. In the case where the direct contact of the heating plate 10b against the marking layer may damage the latter, we can place a sheet of protection on the stack before pressing the heating plate 10b.

L'empilement des couches adhésive 21 et de marquage 22 est alors collé au textile 23.In a last step, illustrated in figure 8D the heating plate 10b is raised. The stack of adhesive layers 21 and marking 22 is then bonded to textile 23.

In order for the label to be removed manually, the surface and shape of the free zone must be such that it is possible to slide a fingertip under the free zone and pull on the label once the tongue is grasped. This characteristic is described below from examples of tabs formed on a label represented in figure 6 , in top view.

The label is formed of a single marking layer having a generally rectangular outer shape with a contour having oscillations.

A first tongue L1 substantially corresponding to a corner of the marking layer.

A second tongue L2 is formed rounded around a hollow of the outer contour of the marking layer.

A third tab L3 corresponds to a strip of the marking layer extending from one side of the marking layer to another adjacent side thereof, the two sides connecting around the lower right corner. This tongue L3 is thus delimited on the one hand by a portion of the adhesive layer covering this lower right corner and on the other hand by the main portion of the adhesive layer covering the majority of the marking layer.

The contours of each tab are defined in plan view by a series of lines of two types. The broken lines (in dashed lines) correspond to an adhesive layer limit. The solid lines correspond to a boundary of the marking layer.

The tongues L1 and L2 are each defined by a continuous line c1, c2 and a broken line d1, d2. The tongue L3 is defined by two continuous lines c3 and c3 'and two dotted lines d3 and d3'.

In the case of the tongues having reentrant continuous lines, such as for the tongues L2 and L3, it is necessary that the spacing between the ends of a continuous line is sufficient to slide a finger under the tongue. In other words, when the tongue is well held and has little surface likely to deviate naturally from the product simply because of gravity, it is necessary that the free contour of the marking layer is sufficiently long. In practice, when the free contour of the marking layer is "reentrant", it is preferable for the spacing between the ends of this free contour portion to be greater than 5 mm and better still greater than 1 cm.

In the case of the tabs having "outgoing" continuous lines, such as the L1 tab, the spacing as indicated above may be smaller than 5 mm, if the exit surface of the tab is sufficient, and in practice greater than 10 mm2, and better than 50mm2.

In general, and regardless of the shape of the contour of the free zone and the surface thereof, it will realize a tongue preferably having a surface greater than 50mm2, and better than 1 cm2.

Cette profondeur doit de préférence être supérieure à 5mm, et mieux supérieure à 1cm.In addition, a minimum depth of the tongue free zone is necessary to arrive in practice to lift the tongue. In practice, the depth of the free zone can be defined as the length of the largest segment inscribed in the surface of the free zone, one of whose ends is located on the free contour of the free zone. This depth should preferably be greater than 5mm, and better than 1cm.

It will be further noted that in the case of a conventional method of manufacturing a transfer sheet, the adhesive layer completely overlaps, or slightly exceeds, the marking layer. However, it is possible that the alignment of the different layers is not perfect and that the adhesive layer is slightly offset from the marking layer, leaving a small peripheral fringe of the marking layer not covered by the adhesive layer.

The transfer sheets having layer offsets are generally discarded and not used to mark products, when the offset exceeds a few tenths of a millimeter, or at most 1 mm. Indeed, during the application of such transfer sheets, the marking layer may be partially, or in whole, not bonded to the product. In addition, even if the marking layer would be transferred in full, the marking is likely to tear or easily remove during a wash for example.

In addition to the fact that such an offset is generally well below the minimum depth defined above, it should be noted that this shift is general over the entire transfer sheet. In practice, if there is an offset on one side revealing the marking layer, there is a corresponding undesired spreading of the adhesive layer beyond the marking layer on the other side of the marking layer. It will thus be possible to differentiate a first zone of uncovered marking layer corresponding to a global non-alignment offset of layers, of a second zone of uncovered marking layer corresponding to a free zone intended to form a tongue for marking according to the present invention, by looking if we observe a spread of the adhesive layer opposite the free zone. If this is the case, it will nevertheless be possible to differentiate between the first and second zones as defined above if the spreading distance of the adhesive layer is less than the depth of the uncovered marking layer area as defined above. above.

It should be noted that in the examples of transfer sheets F and F 'described above, the contours of the adhesive and marking layers are substantially aligned, that is to say that their slight slight shift does not exceed the aforementioned values corresponding to the tolerances. classic non-alignment.

Moreover, usually a good resistance of the marking is sought over time to any type of effort exerted on it. On the contrary, a marking according to the present invention is provided to be easily removable by pulling on the tongue.

This possibility of easy pulling pulling by the tongue is nevertheless preferably associated with a grip on the product sufficient to hold some time on the product when the product is used. In the case of a fabric having a label with a tab according to the present invention, a label will preferably be made capable of withstanding several washes at the temperature indicated on the label. This leaves the choice to the user of the product to keep or not the label.

The possibility of removing the label by pulling on the tongue and the resistance of the label to several washes or hours of use of the product can in practice be obtained with transfer sheets of conventional composition, by implementing a method of application in non-conventional conditions. In other words, the pressure, the temperature or the time of pressurization of the transfer sheet on the product must respectively be less strong or less long than in a conventional marking process so that the marking is not too much glue. The marking will not be too stuck if it is possible to remove it by pulling on the tongue. However, care should be taken not to reduce the pressure, temperature or application time too much to ensure at least a minimum hold of the label. This minimum hold is reached if the marking remains stuck on the product during removal of the support sheet.

Other embodiments of a transfer sheet according to the present invention may be devised by those skilled in the art, as well as other methods of applying such a transfer sheet.

Among other things, various methods can be used to form the marking layers and the adhesive layers. A particularly suitable method is a screen printing process.

In addition, a label having a marking layer having a minimum thickness will preferably be formed in order to ensure the strength and strength of the label as a whole at the moment of pulling on it during removal. The minimum thickness will preferably be greater than 50 microns, even greater than 150 microns. Such a marking layer may in all or part comprise polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyurethane.
