Definitions
- the invention relates to the field of packaging and relates more particularly to a multi-page adhesive label.
- Multi-page adhesive labels are commonly used to display text on several pages on the outside of packaging.
- the multi-page adhesive label is generally presented as a booklet, the pages of which are kept superimposed by a layer of removable adhesive, and is stuck to the exterior of the packaging. This label thus makes it possible, while remaining compact on the packaging, to present several pages that the user can consult.
- the multi-page label therefore has a larger surface area for displaying text or printed designs, such as instructions for use, indications for use, promotional messages, pictograms, etc.
- these labels include tabs or other devices allowing you to selectively enter a page. These tabs are difficult and expensive to produce because they require multiple cutting operations and handling of multi-page labels during their manufacture.
- the document US2010132881 describes a multi-page adhesive label comprising a first adhesive layer, a first data sheet, a second adhesive layer, and a second data sheet, as well as its manufacturing method.
- the aim of the invention is to improve multi-page adhesive labels and their manufacturing process by proposing a process which makes it possible to produce such a label more quickly, more simply, and less expensively.
- the first adhesive layer, the first data sheet, the second adhesive layer, and the second data sheet are superimposed on the adhesive backing sheet in the order shown. That is to say that the superposition operation leads to obtaining a multilayer assembly composed of a stack of, in order, the adhesive support sheet, the first layer of adhesive, the first data sheet, the second layer of adhesive, and the second data sheet.
- a peelable adhesive layer is a layer of adhesive which holds the data sheets together while allowing, when these data sheets are manually separated from each other, peeling without damage of these data sheets.
- This removable adhesive layer can be produced in different ways: by a repositionable adhesive, intrinsically removable, and/or by a conventional adhesive which can be neutralized by a chemical neutralization treatment, and/or by a conventional adhesive which can be made removable by the use, on the front of the first data sheet of a silicone varnish. Any means of allowing an adhesive to be peeled off without damaging the data sheets can be used to produce the peelable adhesive layer.
- the method according to the invention makes it possible to carry out all of the cuts necessary to obtain the multi-page adhesive label in a single pass of the punching tool, that is to say in a single cutting operation.
- a weeding operation makes it possible to remove all portions external to the label produced.
- a weeding operation consists, after cutting the contour of a label, in removing the portion (commonly called "skeleton") located outside this contour to keep only the label thus produced by the cutting.
- a single cutting operation and a single weeding operation are therefore sufficient to produce a multi-page adhesive label equipped with a gripping device.
- the production process is thus rationalized and leads to significant gains in the context of the packaging field where the volumes produced are large and the production rates are high.
- Another object of the invention is a multi-page adhesive label produced by the method previously described.
- This label comprises: a first layer of adhesive, a first data sheet, a second layer of adhesive, and a second data sheet.
- the first data sheet has an extension portion extending beyond the contour of the second data sheet as well as a broken clip at the periphery of the extension portion.
- FIG. 1 represents a multi-page adhesive label 1 according to the invention, front view.
- This label 1 is placed on a sheet 2 of adhesive support.
- the adhesive support sheet 2 is a disposable portion of the label 1, intended to cover the adhesive of the label 1 to allow the latter to be handled before sticking to a support.
- the label 1 can be peeled off from the adhesive support sheet 2, without damaging the adhesive of the label 1, then stuck to the support for which it is intended.
- the adhesive backing sheet is sometimes also called “backing” or “backing strip” and is better known by the English term “backing”.
- the adhesive support sheet 2 is, in the present example, a sheet of “glassine” type paper (in English “glassine paper” or “glassine backing”) 54 microns thick and has on its front, c that is to say on its side in contact with the label 1, a coating facilitating peeling, for example based on silicone.
- Label 1 is made up in this example of two data sheets and thus presents three pages on which the data can be printed which the user can consult by opening label 1.
- figure 2 shows the label 1 open, like a book, that is to say that the first data sheet 3 and the second data sheet 4 have been peeled off from each other and spaced apart along a hinge zone 5.
- the three pages available for printing data are therefore: the front of the second data sheet 4, the back of the second data sheet 4, and the front of the first data sheet 3.
- the back of the first sheet data 3 receives the adhesive layer allowing the label 1 to be stuck on the adhesive support sheet 2 or on the final support.
- the hinge zone 5 can be produced by mutual gluing of the edges of the data sheets 4, 5, by binding, or any other means.
- the second data sheet 4 has a cutout 6 made in one of its corners so that, when the two data sheets 3, 4 are superimposed (see figure 1 ), the first data sheet 3 has an extension portion 7 which extends beyond the contour of the second sheet, so as to create a tab device which facilitates the gripping of the second data sheet 4 by the user in order to open the label 1.
- FIG. 3 represents the profile of the label 1 along the cutting line 8 of the figure 1 .
- Figure 3 shows the stacking of the first data sheet 3 and the second data sheet 4 on the adhesive support sheet 2, as well as the extension portion 7 of the first data sheet 3 which is released by cutting 6 of the second data sheet 4.
- the Figure 3 is an illustrative figure intended to show the arrangement of the leaves and does not represent the leaves in their exact sizes or proportions.
- the multi-page adhesive label 1 of the figure 4 is rounded in shape.
- the second data sheet 4 is a disk and the first data sheet 3 is an identical disk except that it has an extension portion 7 extending beyond the profile of the disk.
- the data sheets 4, 5 overlap exactly, apart from the extension portion 7 which protrudes beyond the contour of the second data sheet 4.
- label 1 of the figure 4 has the profile shown in Figure 3 (adhesive backing sheet 2 is not shown on the figure 4 ).
- the extension portion 7 constitutes a protruding tab allowing the user to only and more easily enter the second data sheet 4 which is located above.
- FIG 5 illustrates another variant of the multi-page adhesive label 1.
- This variant is similar to the variant of the figure 4 except that the second data sheet 4 additionally comprises a projecting portion 10 which extends beyond the profile of the disk but below the profile of the first data sheet, so that a portion of The extension 7 is well made on the first data sheet 3 which therefore extends beyond the contour of the second data sheet 4.
- Label 1 of the figure 5 therefore also presents, along the section line 46, the profile represented at Figure 3 (adhesive backing sheet 2 is not shown on the figure 5 ).
- FIG. 6 illustrates another variant of the multi-page adhesive label 1.
- This variant is similar to the variant of the figure 5 , except that the disk constituting the second data sheet 4 is of a diameter smaller than the disk constituting the first data sheet 3.
- the extension portion 7 is produced over the entire periphery of the label 1, in addition to appearing at the level of the protruding portion 10 of the second data sheet 4.
- Label 1 of the Figure 6 therefore presents, both along the cutting line 11 and along the cutting line 12, the profile represented in the Figure 3 (adhesive backing sheet 2 is not shown on the Figure 5 ).
- the latter includes an extension portion 7, the position, shape, and size of which can vary from one variant to another, and which facilitates the entry of the second data sheet at this extension portion 7 thanks to which the first data sheet 3 extends beyond the contour of the second data sheet 4.
- the hinge zone 5 is, according to one example, produced by a gluing zone 13.
- the two data sheets are glued to each other permanently. Outside of the bonding zone 13, the two data sheets are stuck together by a layer of removable adhesive, which allows the label 1 to be opened and the information it contains to be consulted.
- FIG 8 schematically represents the consecutive steps in the production of a roll 14 of labels 1.
- the roll 14 of labels 1 is made up of a rolled film, this film grouping together a plurality of labels 1 on the same sheet 2 adhesive backing.
- the term “film” is used here generically to designate a sheet material, this film being able to be of any material or assembly of materials.
- There figure 8 schematically represents the cylinders and rollers, seen in profile, of a production line making it possible to continuously produce labels 1.
- the cylinders designate cylindrical parts of production machines used to process and manipulate the films necessary to produce the label 1
- rolls designate rolls of films used as raw material, intermediate product, or final product.
- the method of the present example uses as raw material a film consisting of a data sheet glued to an adhesive backing sheet. This film is first supplied to the production line by a first supply roll 15.
- the roller 15 unwinds the film to a division station 20 where the data sheet 19 is momentarily separated from the support sheet 17. Given the low adhesive properties of the adhesive support sheet 17, the layer of adhesive 18 remains fixed against the data sheet 19.
- the division station 20 gives access to the back of the data sheet 19 which carries the adhesive layer 18. This access allows, at a neutralization station 21, to apply a neutralization treatment to the layer of adhesive. adhesive 18. This treatment is intended to reduce the adhesive properties of the adhesive to make it compatible with the production of a removable adhesive. The properties of the adhesive layer are not canceled, they are simply reduced. In the present example, the removable adhesive from the final label 1 is produced by this neutralized adhesive layer 18 and by a treatment of the first data sheet 3 of the final label 1, which will be explained later.
- the neutralization of the adhesive layer 18 takes place, in the present example, by application to the adhesive layer 18 of a neutralization compound which can be for example a glossy varnish crosslinked by ultraviolet rays, or even a varnish glossy acrylic base.
- a neutralization compound which can be for example a glossy varnish crosslinked by ultraviolet rays, or even a varnish glossy acrylic base.
- the neutralization of the adhesive layer 18 at the neutralization station 20 is carried out selectively, that is to say that it is only carried out for the surfaces corresponding to surfaces which are not intended to constitute the zone of collage 13 (see figures 4 to 6 ).
- a compound depositing device 24 makes it possible to deposit the neutralization compound selectively on the surface of the adhesive layer.
- the device 24 deposits the neutralization compound outside the zones intended to become the bonding zones 13 so as to that the layer of adhesive which will be in the bonding zones 13 will have its full adhesive capacities.
- the device 24 can deposit a printing color on the second data sheet 4 to partially neutralize the adhesive.
- the film is then reassembled, the data sheet 19 with the adhesive layer 18 being redeposited against the adhesive support sheet 17.
- the film then passes through a printing station 22 where patterns can be printed on the front of the data sheet 19, which will be the part of the label 1 visible to the user when the latter is closed. These reasons may example encourage the user to open the label and indicate the protruding portion 10, and include any other information or communication element.
- the printing station 22 is schematically represented with a single printing device 23, which can for example be digital, offset, flexo or screen printing, monochrome or polychrome.
- the printing station 22 can therefore include as many successive printing devices as there are shades or treatments to be applied to produce the visual defined for the front of the data sheet 19.
- the adhesive support sheet 17 is then separated from the rest of the film at a separation station 25 and is wound onto a roller 26.
- the rest of the film therefore consists of the data sheet 19 and the layer d adhesive 18 having undergone the neutralization operation selectively on its surface.
- This remaining film is then assembled with a second film at an assembler station 27.
- the second film arriving at the assembler station 27 comes from a second supply roll 16 feeding the production line.
- the second roller 16 unwinds a film identical to that of the first supply roller 15.
- the method of the present example therefore uses as raw material two identical films each consisting of a data sheet glued to a support sheet of adhesive.
- the film unwound by the second supply roller 16 therefore also has the constitution shown in Figure 9 .
- each element of this film is numbered with the same number as its counterpart on the first roll 15, but followed by a prime (').
- This film of the second roll 15 therefore consists of a sheet 17' of adhesive support, a layer of adhesive 18', and a data sheet 19'.
- the film passes through a printing station 28 where a printing device 29 prints text or patterns on the front of the data sheet 19'.
- a printing device 29 prints text or patterns on the front of the data sheet 19'. This impression on the front of the data sheet 19' will be that visible on the front of the first data sheet 3 of label 1 once completed, that is to say it will be visible when the user has opened label 1.
- the varnish deposited at station 30 is, in the present example, a silicone varnish which may be of radical chemistry or of cationic chemistry.
- the two films are joined so as to produce a stack of an adhesive support sheet, a layer of adhesive, a data sheet, another layer of adhesive, and another data sheet.
- This stack conforms to the stack of label 1 completed and is shown in Figure 1.
- Figure 10 Figure 10 .
- This stack constitutes the film leaving the assembler station 27.
- the cutting cylinder 36 is a punching tool which includes “cookie cutter” type cutting imprints whose contours correspond to the contours that you wish to cut out from the stack of the Figure 10 in order to obtain the finished label 1.
- FIG 11 is a schematic enlargement of the zone of cooperation between the counter-pressure cylinder 35 and the cutting cylinder 36.
- This schematic figure simply shows the general principle of operation of the cutting station 34.
- the cylinders 35, 36 are seen in radial section so that a cutting impression is visible in the form of two cutting edges seen in profile.
- the height of the edges of the impression and the spacing of the cylinders 35, 36 are chosen so that the impression, when the cylinders rotate, cuts the stack of sheets represented on the counterpressure cylinder 35 by penetrating up to the layer desired according to the contour of the imprint.
- FIG. 12 An example of imprints that can be used to produce the label 1 will now be described with reference to the Figure 12 .
- the example of the Figure 12 represents the imprints used for the production of label 1 of the figure 1 . These imprints are normally fixed on the cutting cylinder 36 and follow the curvature of this cylinder 36. To simplify the representation, the imprints of the Figure 12 are shown flat, as if they had been separated from the cutting cylinder 36 and laid flat. This review applies to figures 12 to 17 .
- FIG. 12 shows the two imprints allowing the creation of label 1 of the figure 1 : a first imprint 37, the cutting edge of which is represented by a continuous line, defining the external contour of the label 1; and a second imprint 38, the cutting edge of which is represented by a dotted line, defining the cutout 6 of the second data sheet 4.
- FIG. 13 is a sectional view, according to the section noted AA on the Figure 12 .
- This section shows the sharp edges of the two indentations 37, 38 as well as their respective height.
- the two indentations 37, 38 each have a constant height. However, the height of the second indentation 38 is less than the height of the first indentation 37.
- the two data sheets 3, 4 are therefore cut jointly along the first imprint 37 to form the external contour of the label 1.
- the second data sheet 4 is also cut alone according to the second imprint 38 to form the cutout 6 which will give access to the protruding portion 10 of the first data sheet 3.
- FIG 15 is an enlargement of the upper right corner of the Figure 12 .
- This enlargement makes it possible to make two notches 39, 40 made in the first impression 37 visible.
- These notches 39, 40 create an interruption in the cutting profile of the impression 37 and make it possible not to cut the two data sheets 3, 4 on one side.
- width corresponding to the width L of the notch 39, 40.
- FIG. 16 is a sectional view, according to section BB of the Figure 15 .
- FIG. 16 shows notch 39 seen from the front. This notch 39 extends over the entire height of the first imprint 37 so that, when the imprint 37 penetrates the different thicknesses of the film to be sliced, no thickness is cut over the entire width L of the notch.
- FIG. 17 also shows the notch 37 in perspective, seen following arrow 41 of the Figure 16 .
- the profile of the first imprint 37 therefore appears here in perspective, as well as the interruption of width L created by the notch 39.
- the film then passes to a weeding station 42.
- the weeding operation consists, after cutting the contour of a label, in removing from the adhesive support sheet the superfluous parts which are outside of this outline.
- the superfluous weeded parts are rolled into a weeding roll which is disposed of or recycled.
- the superfluous portions of the stack constituted by the two data sheets 3, 4 are separated at a separator cylinder 43 and rolled up into a weeding roller 44.
- These superfluous portions are constituted by the part of the data sheets 3, 4 which is located outside the contour of the label 1 defined by the first imprint 37.
- a plurality of labels being produced on such a production line these superfluous portions are those present between the labels. These superfluous portions are therefore peeled off from the adhesive support sheet to be wound on the weeding roller 44.
- the attachment of the first data sheet 3 breaks while the attachment of the second data sheet 4 also causes the weeding of the portion of the second data sheet 4 which is between the two contours of the indentations 37, 38 (i.e. the portion which is above the extension portion 7).
- This operation takes place because this portion has its adhesive neutralized which is also applied to a silicone varnish.
- This portion driven by the attachment of the second data sheet 4 will therefore, with the rest of the superfluous portions of the second data sheet 4, wind up on the weeding roller 44.
- the film obtained consists of sheet 2 of adhesive support carrying a plurality of finished multi-page adhesive labels conforming to the figure 1 .
- These labels 1 were obtained following a single pass of a cutting cylinder 36 and a single weeding operation. This film is rolled into a roll 14 of finished product.
- THE figures 18 to 20 are respective enlargements of the examples of label 1 respectively of the figures 4 to 6 . These detail views show examples of fastener positioning in these label variants. All the fasteners are designated by the reference 45. These diagrams therefore illustrate possible positioning of the notches of the first impression according to alternative embodiments of the cutting station 34.

Description
The invention relates to the field of packaging and relates more particularly to a multi-page adhesive label.
Multi-page adhesive labels are commonly used to display text on several pages on the outside of packaging. The multi-page adhesive label is generally presented as a booklet, the pages of which are kept superimposed by a layer of removable adhesive, and is stuck to the exterior of the packaging. This label thus makes it possible, while remaining compact on the packaging, to present several pages that the user can consult. The multi-page label therefore has a larger surface area for displaying text or printed designs, such as instructions for use, indications for use, promotional messages, pictograms, etc.
We know of packaging, for example of medicines, whose instructions for use are thus presented in a compact manner directly on the packaging thanks to such a multi-page label. The user can open the label, that is to say peel off the different pages from each other to consult their contents, and close it after consultation.
To make it easier to remove the different pages from each other, these labels include tabs or other devices allowing you to selectively enter a page. These tabs are difficult and expensive to produce because they require multiple cutting operations and handling of multi-page labels during their manufacture.

The aim of the invention is to improve multi-page adhesive labels and their manufacturing process by proposing a process which makes it possible to produce such a label more quickly, more simply, and less expensively.
- superimposing, on an adhesive backing sheet, a first layer of adhesive, a first data sheet, a second layer of adhesive, and a second data sheet
- cut, in a single pass of a punching tool comprising a first impression and a second impression, the first impression enveloping the second impression: a first contour both in the first data sheet and in the second data sheet, thanks to at the first imprint; a second outline in the second data sheet, thanks to the second imprint; so that the first contour has an extension portion extending beyond the second contour, and so that at least one connection is formed in the second data sheet, this connection connecting the second data sheet on either side and on the other side of the first contour and directly above the extension portion
- peel off from the adhesive support sheet, in a single weeding pass, the portion of the first data sheet which is located around the first contour, and the portion of the second data sheet which is located around the second contour , the latter being driven by said attachment.
The first adhesive layer, the first data sheet, the second adhesive layer, and the second data sheet are superimposed on the adhesive backing sheet in the order shown. That is to say that the superposition operation leads to obtaining a multilayer assembly composed of a stack of, in order, the adhesive support sheet, the first layer of adhesive, the first data sheet, the second layer of adhesive, and the second data sheet.
A peelable adhesive layer is a layer of adhesive which holds the data sheets together while allowing, when these data sheets are manually separated from each other, peeling without damage of these data sheets. This removable adhesive layer can be produced in different ways: by a repositionable adhesive, intrinsically removable, and/or by a conventional adhesive which can be neutralized by a chemical neutralization treatment, and/or by a conventional adhesive which can be made removable by the use, on the front of the first data sheet of a silicone varnish. Any means of allowing an adhesive to be peeled off without damaging the data sheets can be used to produce the peelable adhesive layer.
The method according to the invention makes it possible to carry out all of the cuts necessary to obtain the multi-page adhesive label in a single pass of the punching tool, that is to say in a single cutting operation.
Furthermore, a single weeding operation makes it possible to remove all portions external to the label produced. A weeding operation consists, after cutting the contour of a label, in removing the portion (commonly called "skeleton") located outside this contour to keep only the label thus produced by the cutting.
A single cutting operation and a single weeding operation are therefore sufficient to produce a multi-page adhesive label equipped with a gripping device. The production process is thus rationalized and leads to significant gains in the context of the packaging field where the volumes produced are large and the production rates are high.
- lors de phase de découpe, la formation de l'attache est réalisée par une entaille pratiquée dans la première empreinte ;
- une attache supplémentaire est également formée dans la première feuille de données, cette attache supplémentaire raccordant la première feuille de données de part et d'autre du premier contour en étant superposée à ladite attache ;
- ladite attache présente une largeur comprise entre 0,1 et 0,5 mm, et de préférence sensiblement égale à 0,3 mm ;
- lors de l'étape de découpe, la première empreinte présente une hauteur plus importante que la deuxième empreinte de sorte que la première empreinte découpe à la fois la première feuille de données et la deuxième feuille de données, et que la deuxième empreinte découpe uniquement la deuxième feuille de données ;
- l'étape de découpe est réalisée à un poste de découpe muni d'un cylindre de découpe coopérant avec un cylindre de contrepression ;
- le procédé comporte, avant l'étape de superposition, une étape de neutralisation au cours de laquelle la deuxième couche d'adhésif est sélectivement neutralisée ;
- le procédé comporte, avant l'étape de superposition, une étape de dépose sélective de vernis sur la première feuille de données ;
- l'étape de superposition est réalisée à partir de deux film identiques comportant chacun : une feuille de support d'adhésif, une couche d'adhésif, et une feuille de données ;
- during the cutting phase, the formation of the fastener is carried out by a notch made in the first impression;
- an additional attachment is also formed in the first data sheet, this additional attachment connecting the first data sheet on either side of the first contour while being superimposed on said attachment;
- said fastener has a width of between 0.1 and 0.5 mm, and preferably substantially equal to 0.3 mm;
- during the cutting step, the first impression has a greater height than the second impression so that the first impression cuts both the first data sheet and the second data sheet, and the second impression only cuts the second data sheet;
- the cutting step is carried out at a cutting station provided with a cutting cylinder cooperating with a counter-pressure cylinder;
- the method comprises, before the superposition step, a neutralization step during which the second layer of adhesive is selectively neutralized;
- the method comprises, before the superposition step, a step of selectively depositing varnish on the first data sheet;
- the superposition step is carried out from two identical films each comprising: an adhesive support sheet, an adhesive layer, and a data sheet;
- a plurality of fasteners is formed during the cutting step.
Another object of the invention is a multi-page adhesive label produced by the method previously described. This label comprises: a first layer of adhesive, a first data sheet, a second layer of adhesive, and a second data sheet. The first data sheet has an extension portion extending beyond the contour of the second data sheet as well as a broken clip at the periphery of the extension portion.

This film is first supplied to the production line by a

- la feuille de support d'adhésif 17 est une feuille de glassine de 54 microns d'épaisseur qui comporte, sur sa face en contact avec la couche d'adhésif 18, un revêtement facilitant le décollage, par exemple à base de silicone ;
- la couche d'adhésif 18 est constituée d'un quelconque adhésif tel qu'un adhésif acrylique au caoutchouc de type sensible à la pression, couramment employé dans le domaine des étiquettes autocollantes, et de 37 microns d'épaisseur ;

The
The neutralization of the
Alternatively to the neutralization compound, the
After the
The film then passes through a
The fact of using a single type of film as supply, rather than different films, has the advantages of only having a single reference to manage and of achieving economies of scale. Alternatively, different films can be used for

- une découpe simultanée des deux feuilles de données 3, 4 par la première empreinte 37, excepté deux zones de largeur L correspondant aux entailles 39 ;

second data sheet 4 by thesecond imprint 38.
Ces portions non tranchées de largeur L sont ici dénommées « attaches ».This operation therefore produces two fasteners for each
The film then passes to a weeding station 42. The weeding operation consists, after cutting the contour of a label, in removing from the adhesive support sheet the superfluous parts which are outside of this outline. The superfluous weeded parts are rolled into a weeding roll which is disposed of or recycled.
At the weeding station 42, the superfluous portions of the stack constituted by the two

The width L of the fasteners, therefore of the
