- Motor vehicle starter, having:• a rotor (2), which is able to rotate about an axis of rotation (X),• a stator (3), which is around the rotor (2),• a starter drive assembly (19) mounted in a sliding manner on a drive shaft (18) and able to be driven in rotation about the axis of rotation (X) by the rotor (2), and• a brush device,the device having:- at least two brushes (13) arranged to rub on a commutator (12) of the starter during the operation thereof, these brushes being disposed in a substantially aligned manner on a straight line parallel to an axis of rotation (X) of the commutator,- a brush-holder assembly (130), and- a support (85) on which the brush-holder assembly is mounted, the starter being characterized in that the brush-holder assembly comprises at least two cages (131, 132) each arranged to receive one of said brushes, in that the brush-holder assembly is arranged such that, after the mounting on the support, the two cages (131, 132) are disposed substantially on either side of the support, wherein the support has an annular shape perpendicular to the axis of rotation (X),and in that the support has a recess (120) between the two cages of the brush-holder assembly such that the brushes come into contact with one another through the recess (120).
- Starter according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the brush-holder assembly (130) is made from a single piece.
- Starter according to Claim 1, characterized in that the brush-holder assembly is made from two pieces that are joined together, for example by welding or adhesive bonding, each piece forming one of the cages of the brush-holder assembly.
- Starter according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the brush-holder assembly is arranged to be mounted on the support by snap-fastening or by crimping.
- Starter according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the brush-holder assembly (60) has at least two cages (60, 61) joined to one another.
- Starter according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the brush-holder assembly is produced by moulding or by cutting and bending a metal sheet.
- Starter according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the two cages of the brush-holder assembly are connected to each other by a hinge (65) .
- Starter according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the support has an electrically conductive layer (87) interposed between two electrically insulating layers (86).
- Starter according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that each cage receives at least one spring (115) on which the brush (13) placed in this cage presses.
- Method for manufacturing a motor vehicle starter as defined in any one of Claims 1 to 9, the method involving the following steps:- mounting the brush-holder assembly on the support, then- placing the brushes in the respective cages.
