Beim Einsatz von Möbelbeschlägen mit integrierter Dämpfung kann es jedoch vorkommen, dass das zu bewegende Möbelteil zu stark abgebremst wird, sodass die daraus resultierende Schließ- bzw. Öffnungszeit des bewegbaren Möbelteiles ein tolerierbares Maß überschreitet. Im Extremfall ist es sogar möglich, dass überhaupt keine vollständige Bewegung des bewegbaren Möbelteiles bis hin zu der gewünschten Endlage möglich ist. Wenn zwei Möbelbeschläge zum geführten Bewegen eines bewegbaren Möbelteiles angeordnet werden, so wäre es grundsätzlich möglich, den ersten Möbelbeschlag des bewegbaren Möbelteiles mit einer Dämpfungsfunktion auszurüsten, während der zweite Möbelbeschlag keine Dämpfvorrichtung aufweist. Im Sinne eines möglichst optimalen Bewegungsverhaltens kann jedoch auf diese Weise keine exakte Anpassung an das jeweilige Gewicht des zu bewegenden Möbelteiles ermöglicht werden. Der Lineardämpfer umfasst dabei einen Zylinder und einen im Zylinder linear verschiebbaren Kolben mit einer daran gekoppelten Kolbenstange, wobei die Länge des Hubes der Kolbenstange relativ zum Zylinder einstellbar ist.
