Zum Unterschied zu Spannvorrichtungen herkömmlicher Art ist das Seiltrum 14 des Seilzuges 10 zwischen den beiden Umlenkrollen 8 und 9 um eine Zwischenrolle 15 geführt, die ortsfest an einem parallel zur Wickelwelle 3 zwischen den Stehern 2 gespannten Zugmittel 16 abgestützt ist. Diese Zwischenrolle 15 unterteilt das Seiltrum 14 in zwei Abschnitte, von denen der zwischen der Zwischenrolle 15 und der am Spannseil 11 abgespannten Umlenkrolle 8 verlaufende Abschnitt 17 in einer zur Wickelwelle 3 senkrechten Ebene verläuft, wie dies insbesondere der Fig. 2 entnommen werden kann. Wird demnach das Spannseil 11 zum Aufwickeln des Sonnensegels 1 auf die Wickelwelle 3 nachgelassen, die über einen Antrieb 18 zu diesem Zweck im Aufwickelsinn mit einem Drehmoment beaufschlagt wird, so verlagert sich die Umlenkrolle 8 senkrecht zur Wickelwelle 3, was ein Verziehen des Seilzuges 10 zur Folge hat, weil nicht nur die Segelecke 4, sondern auch die gegenüberliegende Segelecke 5 von der Wickelwelle 3 eingezogen wird. Wegen der zur Wickelwelle 3 senkrechten Verlagerung der Umlenkrolle 8 entspricht die durch das Einziehen des Segeleckes 4 bedingte Verkürzung des Seiltrumabschnittes 17 zwischen der Zwischenrolle 15 und der Umlenkrolle 8 der durch das Einziehen des Segeleckes 5 bedingten Verlängerung des Seilzugtrumes 19 zwischen der ortsfest abgespannten Umlenkrolle 9 und dem Segeleck 5. Die Länge des Seiltrumabschnittes 17 zwischen der Zwischenrolle 15 und der Umlenkrolle 9 ändert sich ja wegen der ortsfesten Abstützung dieser Rollen 15, 9 nicht. Dies bedeutet, dass das Sonnensegel 1 unter einer gleichmäßigen Spannung auf die Wickelwelle 3 aufgewickelt werden kann, wobei die Kräfte des Seilzuges 10 an den Segelecken 4, 5 in vorteilhafter Weise senkrecht zur Wickelwelle 3 angreifen, was eine faltenfreie Aufwicklung des Sonnensegels 1 ermöglicht, selbst wenn die Segelecken 4, 5 einen erheblichen Abstand voneinander in Richtung der Wickelwelle 3 aufweisen. In ähnlicher Weise kann das Sonnensegel 1 unter einer gleichmäßigen Spannung von der Wickelwelle 3 abgezogen werden. Voraussetzung ist, dass die Abspannung der Umlenkrollen 8 und 9 an den Stehern 6 und 7 senkrecht zur Wickelwelle 3 erfolgt. Die Steher 6 und 7 sind daher entsprechend der gewählten Form des Sonnensegels 1 anzuordnen. Hinsichtlich der Lage seiner Segelecken 4 und 5 in Bezug auf die Achse der Wickelwelle 3 ist das Sonnensegel 1 jedoch keiner Begrenzung unterworfen.
