Definitions

  • the invention relates to the field of shower facilities and in particular a method of replacing an existing bath with a shower.
  • the invention relates to a method of replacing an existing bath with a shower, and the shower installation used for the implementation of such a method.
  • bathtubs generally sold in commerce can be of different sizes. Indeed, standard baths often have a height between 58 cm and 75 cm, a length between 130 cm and 185 cm and a width between 70 cm and 85 cm. Therefore, the replacement shower tray must be adaptable to different standard bath sizes without the need for heavy adaptation work. Moreover, the dimensions of shower tray must also be such that it can be entered by any door of standard size, whose common width in Europe is often less than 85 cm.
  • Another problem that arises is the disposal of wastewater. Indeed, during the renovation process of a bathroom, and especially when replacing an existing bath with a shower, the constraints are, among other things, fixed by the existing sewage system. It is appropriate, once the existing bathtub extracted, to connect the water evacuation means of the new shower tray to the water evacuation means present in the bathroom.
  • the water evacuation means of a bath generally include a siphon which is at a certain height of the ground and, therefore, the new shower tray will normally have to be fixed at a certain height of the ground.
  • the problem that may arise, if it is desired to reduce or even eliminate the threshold of the tank, is therefore that the means for discharging water from a shower tray are at a level much lower than the level of the tank. siphon which prohibits, in this case, a direct evacuation of wastewater.
  • This problem related to the evacuation of wastewater is also more relevant when the shower is intended to be used by a person with reduced mobility. Indeed, for these people, it is not only entering and leaving a bathtub that is difficult but, often, even getting in and out of a shower can be a laborious or impossible task. Indeed, because of the problems related to the evacuation of wastewater, the traditional shower trays often include an entry threshold whose height is generally greater than 15 centimeters, in order to adapt below the tray. a siphon. However, for people with disabilities, even a small threshold height can unfortunately be an insurmountable obstacle. Therefore, if the shower is intended for use by a person with reduced mobility, the height of the entrance threshold should be kept to a minimum. As a result, the height of the receiver and means of evacuation of water from the shower tray must in this case be reduced to the minimum possible, which amplifies even more the problem related to the evacuation of wastewater.
  • WO 2008/137554 A2 discloses a method of mounting a bathtub as a shower comprising a step of installing a monobloc structure of shower tray, the tray comprising three side walls, a receiver, a horizontal cornice extending outwardly of the upper end of the three side walls and a horizontal frontal cornice forming the pitch of the door along the front portion of the tray located at the height of the upper end of the receiver, a step of connecting first discharge means of water present on said structure to the existing water evacuation means in the bathroom and a step consisting in the establishment of the structure using support means adjustable in height.
  • WO 2008/137554 A2 also discloses a shower installation which comprises a shower pan comprising a one-piece structure comprising three side walls with a receiver, a horizontal cornice extending outwardly from the upper end of the three side walls and a horizontal frontal cornice forming the not the door along the front portion of the tray located at the height of the upper end of the tray, means for supporting the tray adjustable in height, water supply means and means for discharging water.
  • Various other documents of the state of the art provide information on methods of replacing an existing bath with a shower.
  • a first solution described in the document EP 1 961 353 involves breaking the existing bath support and using debris as the base of the replacement shower tray. In order to smooth out and present a homogeneous surface, a foam is then used to fill the gap left between debris.
  • This solution has the disadvantage that the walls of the bathroom, where the bathtub original was present, must be dressed with a cover sheet which requires a longer renovation time and higher costs.
  • the proposed solution does not solve the problem related to the evacuation of wastewater and does not guarantee a height of threshold allowing a person with reduced mobility to enter the shower without problem.
  • Another solution proposed in the document FR 2 882 243 consists of an installation comprising a built-in shower tray and several wall panels fixed to the shower tray.
  • this solution does not solve the problem related to the evacuation of wastewater nor does it guarantee a limited threshold height.
  • a third solution proposed in FR 2 905 958 is to use a pump to convey the wastewater from the means of evacuation of the shower tray to the siphon of evacuation of the bathroom.
  • the device described in FR 2 905 958 does not cover the parts of the wall that are updated when the existing bathtub is removed. The intervention of a painter or a tiler is necessary, which implies a longer renovation time and higher costs.
  • the floor uncovered during the extraction of the existing bathtub must be adapted by a mason.
  • none of the known systems proposes a shower tray provided with means for a simple connection of the water evacuation means of the tray to those of the bathroom while maintaining a threshold height for a person with reduced mobility to come in and out of the shower.
  • the object of the invention is therefore to provide a method of replacing an existing bath with a shower that does not require the intervention of different trades and allows the replacement of the bath in a time and for limited costs .
  • the invention also aims to reduce the renovation process to an extremely fast operation and can be conducted by a single person.
  • the method of the invention allows to replace an existing bath with a shower in a minimum time while also offering the possibility for people with reduced mobility can access the shower without problem.
  • the method according to the invention may also include a step during which is installed under the front cornice a cover for hiding the existing vacuum below the shower tray and the support means adjustable in height. This step is necessary when using a siphon between the new shower tray and the means of water evacuation in the bathroom.
  • the method according to the invention may comprise a step during which, in order to reduce the threshold of the tank to facilitate access to persons with reduced mobility, a pump is installed between the drain of the new shower tray and the means water evacuation present in the bathroom. In this case, it is no longer necessary to hide the existing void below the shower tray by means of a cover.
  • the method according to the invention may also comprise an additional step of connecting water supply means of the bathroom to water distribution means present on said structure.
  • the said water distribution means can advantageously be installed in the factory on the tank but alternatively can also be used original water distribution means, for example arranged on the walls of the bathroom.
  • the method according to the invention may also comprise a step of placing accessories within said one-piece structure such as a control unit and / or a steam unit and / or a light source and / or or a drying device and / or a source of sound and / or video and / or a sink and / or a bench and / or a seat and / or a support bar.
  • accessories such as a control unit and / or a steam unit and / or a light source and / or or a drying device and / or a source of sound and / or video and / or a sink and / or a bench and / or a seat and / or a support bar.
  • the method according to the invention may also comprise a step of putting in place doors or walls on the frontal cornice and the receiver.
  • said means for discharging water may comprise an automatic trigger pump and said shower tray may be acrylic, gelcoat or any other composite material with a finished surface or a surface to be finished.
  • the shower tray can alternatively be provided with a finishing tile.
  • the installation according to the invention may comprise doors or walls placed on said frontal cornice.
  • the figure 1 represents the bathroom after extraction of the existing bathtub.
  • the location 11 reserved for the bath is between three walls and the part of the walls exposed is not the same level of finish that the rest of the bathroom walls.
  • the floor 13 of the bathroom is also not the same level of finish as the rest of the floor of the bathroom.
  • Location 11 represented at figure 1 is between three walls of the bathroom but it is also possible that one or more of these walls are simple panels surrounding the bathtub.
  • the figure 2 represents the bathroom after installation of the replacement shower tray.
  • the shower installation according to the invention makes it possible to cover the parts of the walls of the bathroom exposed during the extraction of the bath.
  • the shower installation comprises a shower tray 21 consisting of a one-piece structure comprising three side walls 22, 23, 24, a receiver 25, a horizontal cornice 26 extending outwardly from the upper end of the three walls. side and a horizontal frontal cornice 27 all along the front of the tray located at the height of the upper end of the tray 25.
  • the shower tray further comprises a drain 28 for the discharge of waste water.
  • the bung 28 may be a standard bung model but may also be specific, for example a siphoid bung which can advantageously be molded in the factory within the monoblock structure.
  • the shower tray comprises a cover 30 for hiding the existing vacuum below the shower tray and the support means 32 adjustable in height installed under the tray, behind the front cornice 27. As described in detail in relationship with Figures 5a-5c , this cover can, if necessary, be deleted.
  • the shower tray is acrylic resin, gelcoat or any other composite material.
  • the latter can also be advantageously cut by means of a manual or electric saw.
  • the shower installation comprises means for connection to the water supply network (shown in FIG. figure 4 ), water distribution means, for example faucets or a mixer, and adjustable feet (32).
  • the water distribution means 29 may advantageously be pre-installed on the monobloc structure in the factory, but it is equally possible to use original water distribution means placed on the walls of the bathroom.
  • the frontal cornice 27 is adapted to receive doors or walls. These doors or walls may, if necessary, be sliding or swinging.
  • the installation also comprises a pump 31, for example provided with automatic triggering means, arranged, for example, in the space between the wall of the bathroom and the front wall of the shower tray, and intended to suck the wastewater from the bunker of the tank to convey them to the sewage drain of the bathroom when the siphon was removed to position the tray at the lowest possible height.
  • a pump 31 for example provided with automatic triggering means, arranged, for example, in the space between the wall of the bathroom and the front wall of the shower tray, and intended to suck the wastewater from the bunker of the tank to convey them to the sewage drain of the bathroom when the siphon was removed to position the tray at the lowest possible height.
  • the pump is accessible by means of an access door (not shown) present on the tray.
  • the installation may also include accessories such as a control unit, a bench, a steam generator, a light source, a drying device, a sound or video source, or a bathroom sink.
  • accessories such as a control unit, a bench, a steam generator, a light source, a drying device, a sound or video source, or a bathroom sink.
  • a bench, a seat or a support bar can also be an integral part of the one-piece structure of the tray.
  • the existing bath is first extracted from its location.
  • the monobloc structure of the shower tray is then cut to the dimensions of the vacant place in place of the old bathtub so that the shower tray hides the entire location.
  • the suitably dimensioned shower tray is placed in the location left vacant by the old bathtub and the height of the tray is adjusted by means of the adjustable feet 32 located under the tray.
  • the drain of the replacement shower tray is connected to the sewage pipe in the bathroom.
  • the method alternately comprises, just before the fourth stage of installation of the shower tray, an intermediate step during which a pump is connected between the drain of the new shower tray and the water evacuation means present in the shower room. bath.
  • the method comprises an additional step during which water distribution means 29 present on the shower tray are connected to the water supply means present in the bathroom.
  • said water distribution means may advantageously comprise taps and / or one or more pressure and / or temperature regulators well known to those skilled in the art.
  • the figure 4 represents the state of the shower installation according to the invention during the step of connecting the water distribution means present on the shower tray to the water supply means present in the bathroom. It can be seen, in transparency through the tray, the water distribution means 41 of the shower tray, preferably previously mounted at the factory, connected to the water supply circuit 42 of the bathroom.
  • the replacement method according to the invention has the advantage that it can be conducted by a single person. Indeed, considering that the parts of the raw walls uncovered during the extraction of the existing bath are completely covered by the replacement shower tray, it is no longer necessary to paint or tile this hidden part . In addition, considering that the shower tray is supported by feet adjustable in height and closed at its base, only by the cornice, or by the cornice and the lid, the intervention of a mason to put in level the floor of the bathroom is no longer necessary. In addition, considering that faucets and accessories are preferably factory mounted on the replacement tank, no drilling is required.
  • the method according to the invention avoids that different trades must intervene, which further reduces the time required for renovation and substantially reduces costs.
  • a single person is usually able to replace a bath with a shower in a day's work.
  • the shower facility is fully accessible to people with reduced mobility.
  • the installation according to the invention makes it possible to limit the height of the threshold to the minimum by making use of a pump of evacuation. The latter then passes the wastewater from the shower drain outlet directly to the sewage drain of the bathroom. It is thus the absence of a siphon which, in this case, makes it possible to regulate the height of the shower tray to the minimum without worrying about the height of the point of evacuation of the tank vis-à-vis the means of evacuation of the bathroom. This allows for example to obtain a threshold height of less than 7 cm.
  • the shower tray is original dimensions and uses a pump. In the absence of a siphon, the height of the threshold is therefore limited to the minimum.
  • the shower tray has been cut to the minimum dimensions and the threshold height is greater because of the vertical space required for the use of a siphon. A lid 30 is thus placed to hide the vacuum, the siphon and the support means adjustable in height.
  • the shower tray is cut to the minimum dimensions and uses a pump. In this case, the height of the threshold is minimum and the lid is no longer needed to hide the void.
  • the shower installation according to the invention also provides another advantage in that it is adapted to receive doors or walls.
  • Such closing means arranged directly on the frontal cornice, ensure a tightness that a door, wall or curtain placed in front of the cornice can not guarantee (the water would fall on the floor of the bathroom because it is almost impossible to stick the door or the wall all against the cornice).
  • the assembly of the doors or walls is a simple and fast operation, which reduces all the more time needed for renovation and costs.
  • the installation according to the invention finally brings the advantage that the installation of the shower tray, given its monobloc structure, does not necessarily require that it is supported laterally by the walls of the bathroom. A support framework is also not necessary.
  • the shower installation according to the invention because of its size and structure which can be cut by means of a simple saw, also allows to replace a large number of standard size baths.
