Definitions
- the invention relates to the wrapping machine provided with a rotating turntable as defined in the preamble of claim 1.
- wrapping machines comprising a turntable.
- the turntable has a round cover plate on which the object to be wrapped up can be placed in such manner that the object to be wrapped can be rotated relative to a vertically movable but otherwise stationary film delivery device from which film is unwrapped around the object.
- the turntable has two mutually parallel grooves arranged at such distance from each other that corresponds to the distance between the prongs of the lifting fork of a pallet truck.
- the grooves extend from the edge of the cover plate on both sides of the diameter of the cover plate in a parallel direction relative to the diameter.
- the grooves are adapted to receive therein the prongs of the lifting fork, so that the object to be wrapped up can be conveyed by the pallet truck onto the cover plate to be supported by it, and respectively off the cover plate.
- the problem with the known wrapping machines is that the grooves in the table are open down to the fixed base, producing an occupational safety hazard. If one steps by foot on such groove, the foot is naturally supported on the fixed base. If, in this situation, the turntable starts for some reason to move, it develops a dangerous situation in which the foot may become injured. Furthermore, dirt accumulates and foreign objects may fall into the open grooves, which may potentially impede the operation of the turntable and even jam it so that it becomes immobile.
- the objective of the invention is to eliminate the drawbacks referred to above.
- One specific objective of the invention is to disclose at safe wrapping machine without the risk of foot injury.
- One further objective of the invention is to disclose a wrapping machine in which the foreign objects that fall into the grooves do not impede the operation of the turntable.
- the wrapping machine according to the invention is characterized by what has been presented in claim 1.
- the grooves comprise bottoms as an integral part of the turntable structure, so that the bottoms support the lifting fork of a pallet truck and the object to be wrapped up that rests on the lifting fork when the object to be wrapped is conveyed onto the cover plate to be supported by it, and respectively off the cover plate.
- the upper surface of the bottom of the groove is at a height of not more than about 20 mm from the fixed base.
- the invention provides the advantage that if one steps by foot in the grooves, the foot will be supported on the bottom of the groove, which, in case the turntable would move, moves as a fixed part of the turntable and along with it, so that there is not any risk of a foot injury.
- a further advantage is that any foreign objects that may fall into the grooves do not impede the operation of the turntable.
- the grooves provided with bottoms are easily cleaned from dirt, rubbish and other foreign objects.
- the grooves comprise side walls which extend between the cover plate and the bottom.
- the turntable is a substantially rigid, shelf-supporting construction.
- the wrapping machine comprises a base plate under the turntable, the base plate being immovably supported onto the fixed base.
- a number of freely rolling support rolls are bearing-mounted to the turntable to roll therein, the support rolls being supported onto the base plate so as to mount the turntable with a bearing to rotate relative to the base plate.
- the support rolls are arranged over the area of the portion of the turntable that is between the grooves.
- the support rolls are arranged, relative to the centre of the turntable, radially at substantially even intervals in an outer circular array in which the support rolls are placed near the outer edge of the turntable, and in an inner circular array in which the support rolls are nearer to the centre than in the outer circular array.
- the gap between the bottom of the groove and the base plate is about 1 to 10mm, suitably about 3 to 7mm, preferably about 5mm.
- Fig. 1 shows part of a wrapping machine.
- Fig. 1 does not show the conventional tower body in which a film delivery device moves vertically, because this invention does not concern such features. Instead, the figure shows a turntable 1 with a substantially round cover plate 2.
- An object to be wrapped up can be placed onto the cover plate 2 for wrapping.
- the table 1 has two mutually parallel grooves 3, 4, arranged at such distance from each other that corresponds to the distance between the prongs of a lifting fork of a conventional pallet truck, the grooves extending from the edge of the cover plate on both sides of the diameter of the cover plate in a parallel direction relative to the diameter.
- the grooves 3, 4 are adapted to receive therein the prongs of the lifting fork in such manner that the object to be wrapped up can be conveyed by the pallet truck onto the cover plate 2 to be supported by it and respectively off the cover plate.
- the grooves 3, 4 have bottoms 5, 6 as an integral part of the structure of the turntable 1 which has a substantially rigid, self-supporting structure, so that the bottoms 5, 6 support the lifting fork of the pallet truck and the object to be wrapped up that is supported by the lifting fork when the object is conveyed onto the cover plate to be supported by it for wrapping and off the cover plate after the wrapping. Furthermore, the grooves 3, 4 have side walls 7, 8 which extend between the cover plate 2 and the bottom 5, 6.
- a base plate 9 is under the turntable 1 and it is immovably supported on the fixed base.
- Fig. 3 shows freely rolling support rolls 10 which are bearing-mounted to the turntable 1, this embodiment comprising 12 of these rolls.
- the support rolls 10 are supported onto the base plate 9 so as to mount the turntable 1 with a bearing to rotate relative to the base plate 2.

US 4,578,923 ,GB 2 113 645JP02282011 FR 2 622 866 - The problem with the known wrapping machines is that the grooves in the table are open down to the fixed base, producing an occupational safety hazard.
- The wrapping machine according to the invention is characterized by what has been presented in
claim 1. - According to the invention, the grooves comprise bottoms as an integral part of the turntable structure, so that the bottoms support the lifting fork of a pallet truck and the object to be wrapped up that rests on the lifting fork when the object to be wrapped is conveyed onto the cover plate to be supported by it, and respectively off the cover plate.
A further advantage is that any foreign objects that may fall into the grooves do not impede the operation of the turntable. The grooves provided with bottoms are easily cleaned from dirt, rubbish and other foreign objects.
- In one embodiment of the wrapping machine, the grooves comprise side walls which extend between the cover plate and the bottom.
- In one embodiment of the wrapping machine, the turntable is a substantially rigid, shelf-supporting construction.
