Definitions
- the invention relates to transparent security elements which have a color shift effect, caused by metallic clusters which are separated by a defined transparent layer from a layer with a high refractive index.
- EP 1 716 007 A is a tamper-proof security element consisting of at least one electromagnetic wave reflecting layer, a polymeric spacer layer and a layer formed by metallic clusters, wherein one or more of the layers in addition to their function in Farbkipp bin setup fulfill other security functions known.
- Disadvantage is that other elements or security elements, such as fluorescence, texts, microtes, images and the like below the metallic reflection layer are no longer recognizable.
- the object of the invention is therefore to provide a security element having a color shift effect, which is also recognizable without metallic reflective layer and also the underlying element or Security element, such as a photo, a text, a microtext or a fluorescent feature is recognizable.
- the invention therefore relates to a security element comprising a carrier substrate, each consisting of at least a first layer, a polymeric spacer layer and a layer formed by metallic clusters, characterized in that the first layer is a transparent layer with a high refractive index (HRI layer).
- HRI layer high refractive index
- the carrier substrate used is preferably transparent flexible plastic films, for example made of P 1, PP, MOPP, PE, PPS, PEEK, PEK, PEI, PSU, PAEK, LCP, PEN, PBT, PET, PA, PC, COC, POM, ABS, PVC Question.
- the carrier films preferably have a thickness of 5 to 700 .mu.m, preferably 5 to 200 .mu.m, particularly preferably 5 to 50 .mu.m.
- a transparent layer with a high refractive index is applied on the carrier substrate. This layer can be applied over the entire surface or partially.
- This layer has a refractive index which is higher than the refractive index of the spacer layer, preferably a refractive index of> 2.0, and is also referred to as a high refractive index (HRI) layer.
- HRI high refractive index
- vapor-deposited, printed or coated transparent materials such as, for example, metal oxides or metal sulfides, for example Ti oxides, Ta oxides, Si oxides or ZnS are suitable.
- a method using a soluble paint for producing the partial HRI layer is particularly suitable.
- a soluble in a solvent paint application is applied, in a second step, this layer optionally by means of an inline plasma, corona or Treated flame process and applied in a third step, a layer of the material to be patterned in a vacuum evaporation method or by printing or by painting, and in a fourth step, the paint application by means of a solvent, optionally combined with a mechanical action, is removed.
- the soluble paint application takes place partially, the application of the HRI layer can take place over the entire surface or partially.
- the thickness of the HRI layer is preferably about 30-100 nm, but also higher or lower layer thicknesses are possible.
- the partial transparent layer may be defined by a non-transparent layer, e.g. be supplemented by a metal layer, which is applied over the whole area or partially, either exactly or partially congruent or offset to the HRI layer.
- the following polymeric spacer layer or the polymeric spacer layers can also be applied over the entire surface or partially.
- the polymeric layers consist for example of conventional or radiation-curing, in particular UV-curing, paint or coating systems based on nitrocellulose, epoxy, polyester, rosin, acrylate, alkyd, melamine, PVA, PVC, isocyanate , Urethane or PS copolymer systems.
- This polymeric layer essentially serves as a transparent spacer layer, but may be absorbent and / or fluorescent or phosphorescent depending on the composition in a specific spectral range.
- this property can also be enhanced by the addition of a suitable chromophore.
- a suitable spectral range can be selected.
- the polymeric layer can additionally be made machine-readable. For example, in blue Spectral region (in the range of about 400 nm) a yellow AZO dye, for example, anilides, rodural, eosin, are used. The dye also changes the spectrum of the security feature in a characteristic manner.
- the polymeric spacer layer has regions of different thickness.
- the thickness gradient, defined steps, defined structures
- a combination of different color shift effects is produced in a finished security element (multicolor tilting effect).
- the thickness of the layer can be selectively varied within a wide range, for example in a range of 10 nm to 3 microns.
- the layer structure does not produce any discernible color to the human eye. This is because the spectrum becomes more and more complex with increasing layer thickness (multipeak) and can no longer be resolved. For readers, however, the spectrum is still easy to measure and even highly characteristic, with the maximum distance layer thickness to be measured depending on the resolution of the respective device. This provides a way to create a nondescript but machine-readable mark.
- the layer thickness profile can also be embodied in the form of a step structure, wherein different thicknesses of a further polymer layer are partially applied to a base layer.
- At least one layer of the polymeric spacer layer may have optically active structures, such as diffraction gratings, diffraction patterns, holograms, and the like, which may be embossed into the polymeric spacer layer, preferably prior to complete cure.
- optically active structures such as diffraction gratings, diffraction patterns, holograms, and the like, which may be embossed into the polymeric spacer layer, preferably prior to complete cure.
- a corresponding method is for example off EP-A 1352732 A or off EP-A 1310381 known.
- the polymeric spacer layer has a refractive index of about 1.3 to 1.7, but in any case a lower refractive index than the applied HRI layer.
- the metallic clusters can consist, for example, of aluminum, gold, palladium, platinum, chromium, silver, copper, nickel, tantalum, tin and the like or their alloys, such as, for example, Au / Pd, Cu / Ni or Cr / Ni.
- cluster materials can also be applied, for example semiconducting elements of III. to VI. Main or the II.
- Subgroup whose plasmon excitation externally (eg via X-ray or ion radiation or electromagnetic interactions) can be triggered. This will change when viewed with a suitable reader in the color spectrum (eg intensity change) or a blinking of the color shift effect visible.
- the cluster layer may also have additional properties, for example electrically conductive, magnetic or fluorescent properties.
- a cluster layer of Ni, Cr / Ni, Fe or core-shell structures with these materials or mixtures of these materials with the cluster materials mentioned above has such additional features.
- This cluster layer can be applied in a known manner by sputtering (for example ion beam or magnetron) or evaporation (thermally, by electron beam, from a solution) or by adsorption.
- the cluster layer can be applied over the entire surface or partially.
- the color Due to the transparent HRI layer, the color also changes depending on the angle, resulting in a visible color shift effect on both sides, whose color changes can be different on the front and back of the setup.
- the layer structure can then optionally be provided on one or both sides with a primer layer and an adhesive coating for application to a substrate.
- a primer layer for application to a substrate.
- An adhesive coating for application to a substrate.
- Hot or cold seal adhesives or self-adhesive coatings come into question as the adhesive coating.
- the described layer structure can also be laminated against a further carrier substrate.
- the security element may be applied to a substrate having elements or security elements, such as a photograph, a text, a fluorescent feature, graphics, images, symbols, and the like.
- the security element according to the invention can be used as a laminating film, for example for value documents, such as identity documents, cards, banknotes and the like. After lamination with a further carrier substrate, the security element can also be used for incorporation into value documents, wherein the color shift effect is visible through a recess in the document of value (window). If the recess is made so that the security element is visible from both sides, a different color shift effect can be recognized from both sides.

Abstract
Description
EP -A 1352732 A EP -A 1310381 bekannt.
