Definitions
- the present invention is directed to a decorative article having a particular noble metal-containing outer layer sequence. Furthermore, the invention relates to a suitable coating method.
- the layer sequence is characterized in that a palladium-containing sublayer is followed by an electrodeposited alloy of ruthenium and an element of the group consisting of platinum and rhodium.
- the metals platinum and / or rhodium are particularly suitable for this purpose. A not inconsiderable proportion of the platinum or rhodium is therefore used in the field of costume jewelery production.
- the piece of jewelry is not made of solid metal, as this would be much too expensive. Rather, the basic jewelry body with different precious metals with the aid of various coating methods such as the galvanic surface coating, coated. Both for gold, palladium, platinum and rhodium, such coatings and corresponding coating methods are already described in the prior art ( Hasso Kaiser, Precious metal coatings in series Electroplating and Surface Treatment, 2002, 1st edition, Leuze Verlag ; Arvid von Krustenstjern, Edelmetallgalvanotechnik, decorative and technical applications, 1970, Vol. 14, Leuze Verlag ).
- German Offenlegungsschrift 2114119 describes a process for the electrolytic deposition of ruthenium alloys with a second metal of the platinum group, in particular rhodium, platinum and palladium. It has been found that the appearance and the physical properties as well as the corrosion resistance of such layers can be largely improved by the described mixing deposition.
- the layers described here contain, in addition to the noble metal, a high proportion of ruthenium and optionally further metals selected from the group consisting of osmium or iridium. The deposition of the layers was carried out on a gold-plated brass sample.
- German design text 1280014 describes an invention involving a process for electroplating metals with platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium or their alloys with each other and / or with iridium.
- baths were used which contained a proportion of 2.5 g per liter of rhodium and 2.5 g per liter of ruthenium in the electrolyte.
- the electrolytes were used at different temperatures and cathode current densities.
- gold coatings used were obtained alloy of about 40:60 wt .-% to 60:40 wt .-% ruthenium to rhodium.
- the described precious metal-containing layer sequence on the decorative articles has in one respect a surprisingly high brightness which is comparable to the brightness of the pure noble metals.
- a significantly improved abrasiveness, even compared with the respective pure metals results.
- the metallic base substrates used for the present invention consist of relatively cheap and non-noble materials.
- the deposition of the noble metal-containing layer sequence according to the invention may take place. be advantageous to coat them with an outer layer of copper before the palladium-containing undercoat is deposited on them.
- a copper layer with a thickness of 5 to 30 .mu.m, preferably 10 to 25 .mu.m and very particularly preferably 15 to 20 .mu.m improves the gloss, which is very important for jewelery. Jewelry blanks that come from the foundry are often scratched and, due to the production, have a rather rough surface.
- the metallic base substrate used therefore advantageously has an outer copper layer on which the palladium-containing lower layer is deposited.
- the palladium-containing underlayer forms a corrosion and color protection for the final layer of ruthenium alloy to be deposited thereon.
- the latter can be performed in extremely thin layers. This of course means that there is an increased vulnerability of underlying lower grade metals. Therefore, to prevent the shine-through of the metallic base substrates by the thin ruthenium alloy layer and to sufficiently prevent the penetration of corrosive elements into the metallic base substrate, deposition of a palladium layer having a thickness of preferably 0.1-10 ⁇ m, preferably 0, is preferable , 5 - 5 microns and most preferably from 1 - 3 microns considered sufficient.
- the palladium-containing underlayer is one in which the metal palladium is present in a concentration of at least 50% by weight, preferably> 60% by weight, more preferably> 70% by weight. Most preferably, it is pure palladium.
- Such palladium-containing layers are well known to those skilled in the art.
- the optionally admixed components are essentially metals from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt, zinc, or silver, or elements from the group consisting of boron or phosphorus. Such alloys as well as their production are - as mentioned - known in the art ( Galvanic deposition of palladium and palladium alloys, 1993, DGO special edition, Vol. 84 ).
- the palladium can then be deposited a final layer of the ruthenium alloy.
- the deposition of the gold layer can be carried out by methods known to the person skilled in the art ( Reid & Goldie, Gold Plating Technology, 1974 Electrochemical Publications LTD .).
- the deposition of the gold layer is carried out in a galvanic bath ( Galvanic deposition of gold, 1998/1999, DGO special edition, Vol. 89/90 ).
- the gold layer can be made very thin. It preferably has a thickness of 0.01-0.5 ⁇ m, preferably 0.05-0.3 ⁇ m and very particularly preferably 0.1-0.2 ⁇ m, in order to be able to form the adhesion effect.
- the final layer of ruthenium alloy can be in an extremely thin design.
- a layer of ruthenium alloy with a thickness of 0.01 - 10 microns, preferably 0.05 - 2 microns and most preferably from 0.1 to 0.5 microns, considered sufficient.
- the envisaged precious-metal-containing layer sequence has, on the one hand, increased brightness, which is extremely close to that of the pure precious metal.
- the abrasion resistance is not merely an average of the abrasion resistance of both pure metals, but is unexpectedly synergistically improved.
- the effect according to the invention is particularly advantageous at a platinum content of from about 60 to about 80% by weight, particularly advantageously from about 60 to about 75% by weight.
- the rhodium content should be in a range of about 65 to about 80 wt .-%, more preferably from about 70 to about 80 wt .-%, to the inventive effect in an extremely advantageous manner to accomplish.
- the metallic base substrate is coated with a copper layer.
- a piece of jewelry made of die-cast zinc is advantageously first pre-coated with a cyanide copper electrolyte ( R. Pinner, Copper and Copper Alloy Plating, 1962, CDA Publication no. 62 ), and the resulting, usually thin copper layer then reinforced with an acidic copper electrolyte, before being further coated with a palladium electrolyte.
- the pre-coppering is necessary because it is not possible to directly coat zinc die casting due to the low pH of an acidic copper or palladium electrolyte. The zinc would just dissolve.
- jewelry made of brass can be directly coated with an acidic copper or palladium electrolyte ( R. Pinner, Copper and Copper Alloy Plating, 1962, CDA Publication no. 62 . Galvanic deposition of palladium and palladium alloys, 1993, DGO special edition, Vol. 84 ).
- the copper plating with an acidic copper electrolyte serves, inter alia, to prepare the surface of the jewelry for the subsequent coating steps with precious metals. Therefore, if possible, a particularly advantageous embodiment is that in which the metallic base substrate is treated with an acid copper electrolyte (before). However, if the metallic base substrate to be treated is too base, it is advantageously pre-coated first with a cyanide copper electrolyte before, if appropriate, subsequent acidic copper deposition takes place.
- Particularly advantageous for the present invention is the frame coating for applying the palladium-containing underlayer and / or the ruthenium alloy.
- the objects After degreasing, the objects are dipped to neutralize alkali residues in dilute acid, if you then want to electroplate in an acidic electrolyte.
- the acid used is usually 2-10% sulfuric acid or 10-20% hydrochloric acid.
- a metal precipitate is to be precipitated from an alkaline electrolyte, the object is first immersed in a solution of about 10% sodium or potassium cyanide ( Handbook for Electroplating, 1966, Vol. I / 2, Carl Hanser Verlag ). Since in the present case pieces of jewelry made of zinc die casting in an alkaline-cyanide copper electrolyte are coated, this can be used advantageously for a 10% KCN solution.
- cyanide copper electrolyte Since the base metal zinc used is much less noble than copper, a cohesive and adherent coating can advantageously be obtained with a cyanide copper electrolyte. In an acidic electrolyte, there is a risk that the copper would already deposit in a loose layer due to ion exchange without external current infiltration and would greatly reduce the adhesive strength of the electrochemically applied copper ( Handbook for Electroplating, 1966, Vol. 2, Carl Hanser Verlag ).
- the basis of all cyanide electrolytes are the complex compounds that form copper (I) cyanide and sodium or potassium cyanide when dissolved in water.
- the cyanide-alkaline copper bath 830 Arbeitsantechnisch Kupfer 830, Fa.
- Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2002 which has a good gloss depth spread, an excellent metal distribution and an extremely rapid coverage, is preferably used for the preconsolidation of the jewelry blanks. This allows the deposition of 5 to 10 .mu.m thin layers of good gloss and sufficient corrosion protection, which in the subsequent coppering in a sulfuric acid electrolyte is of very particular advantage.
- Precipitates of acidic copper electrolytes are deposited in layers up to a maximum of about 60 ⁇ m in the automotive industry, in household appliances and office machines. In the fine mechanical and electrical engineering industry precipitations of 3 - 12 ⁇ m generally meet the requirements. In order to meet these versatile requirements, a variety of copper electrolytes have been developed. Due to its simple composition and its favorable price, the sulfuric acid electrolyte is usually used for the electrolytic deposition of copper from acidic solution. To produce the required total copper layer thickness of 15-20 ⁇ m, the copper bath 837 was advantageously used, with which it is possible for us to produce high-gloss, leveling, low-porosity and ductile copper layers (Working Instructions Copper 837, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2002). Before coppering in copper 837, advantageously after sufficient rinsing in 2-5% sulfuric acid it is necessary to decant and then to rinse sufficiently.
- Palladium 457 is a weakly alkaline palladium electrolyte for decorative and technical applications. High-gloss and bright pure palladium coatings can be deposited from the electrolyte within a wide current density working range. The white, low-pore coatings are shining at layer thicknesses up to 5 microns. The ductile, low-stress layers have, in addition to high hardness and very good wear resistance, good corrosion and tarnish resistance. Preference is given to depositing approximately 2 ⁇ m thick pure palladium layers on the copper-plated pieces of jewelry. Subsequently, the now coated with palladium jewelry is rinsed in deionized water.
- Palladium layers are predominantly finished with a gold flash as a final coating to improve the contact properties of electronic components, or to obtain the fashion color gold.
- a gold intermediate layer (sandwich construction) for reasons of adhesion of the layers with each other is advantageous.
- Such an adhesive gold layer can, for. B. with a nickel and cobalt-free hard gold electrolyte.
- the gold electrolyte Auruna 215 (instructions Auruna 215, Umicore Galvanotechnik, 2002) is a hard gold electrolyte for decorative applications, preferably for parts that come into contact with the skin, such. B. jewelry or watches.
- the main advantage of the coatings is their freedom of nickel and cobalt, so that the emergence of skin allergies can be excluded by these metals.
- the alloy of ruthenium and an element of the group consisting of platinum and rhodium can now be applied as a final layer on the adhesive gold layer.
- the gold-plated substrate is immersed in an electrolyte containing the alloy metals in a suitable form, and the desired ruthenium-platinum or ruthenium-rhodium alloy is deposited on the substrate under the action of electric current of defined strength.
- cathodic degreasing has long been favored because these metals discolor slightly during anodic degreasing (by forming a tarnish film) or even etched slightly.
- electrolytes are used which contain alkali cyanides or other complexing agents and prevent the formation of oxide or similar surface films ( Handbook for Electroplating, 1966, Vol. I / 2, Carl Hanser Verlag ).
- the objects are dipped to neutralize alkali residues in dilute acid, if they then want to electroplate in an acidic electrolyte.
- the acid used is usually 2-10% sulfuric acid or 10-20% hydrochloric acid.
- a metal precipitate is to be precipitated from an alkaline electrolyte, it is first dipped into a solution of about 10% sodium or potassium cyanide. ( Handbook for Electroplating, 1966, Vol. I / 2, Carl Hanser Verlag ). In the present case, since pieces of jewelry made of brass should be coated in an acidic copper electrolyte, it was immersed in a 10% sulfuric acid solution.
- the claimed outer layer sequence is on the surface of the metallic base substrate.
- the final alloy layer thus forms the outermost surface of the decorative article.
- the cyanic-alkaline copper bath 830 (working instruction copper 830, Fa. Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2002) was used. With this a 5 - 10 microns thin layer of good gloss was achieved.
- the copper bath 837 was used, with which it is possible to produce high-gloss, leveling, low-porosity and ductile copper layers (working instructions Kupfer 837, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2002). Before coppering in copper 837, after adequate rinsing, decaphene in 2-5% sulfuric acid and then rinse sufficiently.
- a gold intermediate layer of approximately 0.1-0.2 ⁇ m was galvanically applied to one another for reasons of the adhesion of the layers to one another.
- Auruna 215 Umicore Galvanotechnik, 2002
- the alloy of ruthenium and platinum could now be applied as a final layer on the adhesive gold layer.
- the gold-plated substrate was immersed in an electrolyte containing 1.0 g / l of ruthenium and 1.0 g / l of platinum. Under the influence of electric current in defined strength (1.0 A / dm 2 ), the desired platinum-ruthenium alloy was deposited on the substrate. The temperature of the electrolyte was 50 ° C, the pH around 1.0. As anodes, platinized titanium anodes were used. After subsequent intensive rinsing (economy rinse removed precious metal, flow rinse with deionized water) and subsequent drying of the coated substrate, the alloy was determined by X-ray fluorescence to an alloy ratio of about 75:25 (platinum: ruthenium).
- the color of the deposited alloy was measured by means of a color measuring device of the company Xrite, with which among other things the brightness of a layer (after CieLab, http://www.cielab.de/ ) can be determined.
- CieLab http://www.cielab.de/
- the abrasion resistance (measured according to Bosch-Weinmann, AM Erichsen GmbH, publication 317 / D - V / 63, or Weinmann K., color and lacquer 65 (1959), S 647-651 ) of the alloy was also determined.
- Example 2 Coating of a jewelry blank made of brass with a platinum-ruthenium alloy in the alloy ratio of 60:40
- the objects are dipped to neutralize alkali residues in dilute acid, if they then want to electroplate in an acidic electrolyte.
- jewelry of brass in an acidic copper electrolyte was immersed in a 10% sulfuric acid solution.
- the alloy of ruthenium and platinum could now be applied as a final layer on the adhesive gold layer.
- the gold-plated substrate was immersed in an electrolyte containing 1.0 g / l ruthenium and 0.7 g / l platinum. Under the influence of electric current in defined strength (1.0 A / dm 2 ), the desired platinum-ruthenium alloy was deposited on the substrate. The temperature of the electrolyte was 50 ° C, the pH around 1.0. As anodes, platinized titanium anodes were used.

- Example 3 Coating of a jewelry blank of zinc with a rhodium-ruthenium alloy in the alloy ratio of 70:30
- Example 2 Based on a manufactured by zinc die-casting jewelry blank made of zinc or a zinc alloy, this was degreased as described in Example 1, by cathodic degreasing with an alkaline-cyanide cleaner for non-ferrous metals (Instructions Degreasing 6030, Umicore Galvanotechnik 2002) and freed of adhering impurities. He was then immersed in a 10% KCN solution. To remove the electrolyte residues adhering to the product, rinsing was carried out in demineralised water (economy sink, flow sink). For preconsolidation of the jewelry blanks, the cyanic-alkaline copper bath 830 (working instruction copper 830, Fa. Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2002) was again used.

Abstract
Description
The present invention is directed to a decorative article having a particular noble metal-containing outer layer sequence. Furthermore, the invention relates to a suitable coating method. The layer sequence is characterized in that a palladium-containing sublayer is followed by an electrodeposited alloy of ruthenium and an element of the group consisting of platinum and rhodium.
In the jewelry making a jewelry body is made of a cheap material such. As brass, a copper-zinc alloy, or made of pure zinc. Since both materials are very non-precious electrochemical, and when wearing on the skin, as is usually the case with jewelry, would be very unsightly after a short time, made of these alloys, or pieces of jewelry must be "refined".
It would also be desirable to develop noble metal-containing layer sequences which meet decorative requirements, in particular in the fashion jewelery sector. The targeted layers on the one hand are very close to those of pure metal in terms of their brightness, color and color fastness, and the highest possible mechanical abrasion and adhesion resistance exhibit. Furthermore, it is desired to be able to keep the price for this "refinement" as low as possible.
These and other objects not mentioned in more detail in the prior art, but which are obvious to a person skilled in the art, are achieved by an article having a specific noble metal-containing layer sequence with the features of the
By specifying an article for decorative purposes in which a precious metal-containing outer layer sequence comprising - seen from the inside out - a palladium-containing undercoat electrochemically or reductively deposited on a metallic base substrate and an electrodeposited alloy of ruthenium and an element of the group consisting of Platinum and rhodium, wherein the platinum-ruthenium alloy has a platinum content of about 55 to about 80 wt .-% and the rhodium-ruthenium alloy has a rhodium content of about 60 to about 85 wt .-%, is present , you get extremely simple and surprising, but not less advantageous to solve the tasks. The described precious metal-containing layer sequence on the decorative articles has in one respect a surprisingly high brightness which is comparable to the brightness of the pure noble metals. However, surprisingly, in the stated range, a significantly improved abrasiveness, even compared with the respective pure metals, results. These advantages are complemented by the fact that the noble metal-containing layer sequences used are cheaper to produce than those described in the prior art with pure platinum and / or rhodium layers.
The palladium-containing underlayer forms a corrosion and color protection for the final layer of ruthenium alloy to be deposited thereon. As mentioned below, the latter can be performed in extremely thin layers. This of course means that there is an increased vulnerability of underlying lower grade metals. Therefore, to prevent the shine-through of the metallic base substrates by the thin ruthenium alloy layer and to sufficiently prevent the penetration of corrosive elements into the metallic base substrate, deposition of a palladium layer having a thickness of preferably 0.1-10 μm, preferably 0, is preferable , 5 - 5 microns and most preferably from 1 - 3 microns considered sufficient.
According to the invention, it is therefore preferred if there is a layer of adhesive gold between the palladium-containing underlayer and the electrodeposited alloy. As indicated, the gold layer can be made very thin. It preferably has a thickness of 0.01-0.5 μm, preferably 0.05-0.3 μm and very particularly preferably 0.1-0.2 μm, in order to be able to form the adhesion effect.
As mentioned above, the final layer of ruthenium alloy can be in an extremely thin design. Thus, by a layer of ruthenium alloy with a thickness of 0.01 - 10 microns, preferably 0.05 - 2 microns and most preferably from 0.1 to 0.5 microns, considered sufficient.
In the range according to the invention, the envisaged precious-metal-containing layer sequence has, on the one hand, increased brightness, which is extremely close to that of the pure precious metal. However, it is also surprising that such a decorative article is better protected against abrasion. The abrasion resistance is not merely an average of the abrasion resistance of both pure metals, but is unexpectedly synergistically improved. With regard to the platinum-ruthenium alloy occurs the effect according to the invention is particularly advantageous at a platinum content of from about 60 to about 80% by weight, particularly advantageously from about 60 to about 75% by weight. For the rhodium-ruthenium alloy, the rhodium content should be in a range of about 65 to about 80 wt .-%, more preferably from about 70 to about 80 wt .-%, to the inventive effect in an extremely advantageous manner to accomplish.
- a) ein metallisches Grundsubstrat reduktiv oder elektrochemisch mit einer palladiumhaltigen Schicht überzieht;
- a) covers a metallic base substrate reductively or electrochemically with a palladium-containing layer;
- b) if necessary, deposit thereon a layer of adhesive gold; and
- c) then an alloy of ruthenium and an element of the group consisting of platinum and rhodium, wherein the platinum-ruthenium alloy has a platinum content of about 55 to about 80 wt .-% and the rhodium-ruthenium alloy has a rhodium content of
approx 60 to about 85 wt .-%, electrodeposited.
Größenordnung 0,05 - 0,5 A/dm2)
- 2. Gestellbeschichtung für Einzelteile:
- Bei diesem Beschichtungsverfahren werden mittlere Arbeitsstromdichten angewendet (Größenordnung: 0,2 - 5 A/dm2)
- 3. High-Speed Beschichtung für Bänder und Drähte in Durchlaufanlagen:
- In diesem Beschichtungsbereich werden sehr hohe Arbeitsstromdichten angewendet. (Größenordnung 5 - 100 A/dm2).
- 1. Drum coating for bulk material and mass parts:
- In this coating method rather low operating current densities are used (order of magnitude 0.05 - 0.5 A / dm 2 )
- 2. Frame coating for single parts:
- Average working current densities are used in this coating method (order of magnitude: 0.2-5 A / dm 2 )
- 3. High-speed coating for strips and wires in continuous flow systems:
- Very high working current densities are used in this coating area. (Order of magnitude 5 - 100 A / dm 2 ).
Particularly advantageous for the present invention is the frame coating for applying the palladium-containing underlayer and / or the ruthenium alloy.

- Starting with a zinc diecast zinc or zinc alloy jewelery blank, it is removed after mechanical deburring, grinding and polishing of adhering impurities. Zinc is relatively sensitive to alkalis; therefore, when degreasing is generally used no strong alkalis and avoid prolonged exposure. The electrolytic degreasing of the tin alloys used to be exclusively cathodic. Today, there are funds for cathodic and anodic degreasing in commerce; You can work successfully by both methods. The electrolytes used are either phosphate- and / or silicate-containing solutions at elevated temperature, or more alkaline solutions at room temperature (
Handbook for Electroplating, 1966, Vol. I / 2, Carl Hanser Verlag
Precipitates of acidic copper electrolytes are deposited in layers up to a maximum of about 60 μm in the automotive industry, in household appliances and office machines. In the fine mechanical and electrical engineering industry precipitations of 3 - 12 μm generally meet the requirements. In order to meet these versatile requirements, a variety of copper electrolytes have been developed. Due to its simple composition and its favorable price, the sulfuric acid electrolyte is usually used for the electrolytic deposition of copper from acidic solution. To produce the required total copper layer thickness of 15-20 μm, the copper bath 837 was advantageously used, with which it is possible for us to produce high-gloss, leveling, low-porosity and ductile copper layers (Working Instructions Copper 837, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2002). Before coppering in copper 837, advantageously after sufficient rinsing in 2-5% sulfuric acid it is necessary to decant and then to rinse sufficiently.
B. Schmuck, zunehmend an Bedeutung.
Palladium layers are predominantly finished with a gold flash as a final coating to improve the contact properties of electronic components, or to obtain the fashion color gold. Although other layers of platinum group metals, such. As rhodium or platinum, or their alloys are to be deposited on the palladium, a gold intermediate layer (sandwich construction) for reasons of adhesion of the layers with each other is advantageous. Such an adhesive gold layer can, for. B. with a nickel and cobalt-free hard gold electrolyte. The gold electrolyte Auruna 215 (instructions Auruna 215, Umicore Galvanotechnik, 2002) is a hard gold electrolyte for decorative applications, preferably for parts that come into contact with the skin, such. B. jewelry or watches. The main advantage of the coatings is their freedom of nickel and cobalt, so that the emergence of skin allergies can be excluded by these metals.
After intensive rinsing in deionized water and subsequent acid immersion, possibly adhering residues of cyanide from the gold electrolyte To remove, the alloy of ruthenium and an element of the group consisting of platinum and rhodium can now be applied as a final layer on the adhesive gold layer. For this purpose, the gold-plated substrate is immersed in an electrolyte containing the alloy metals in a suitable form, and the desired ruthenium-platinum or ruthenium-rhodium alloy is deposited on the substrate under the action of electric current of defined strength. After subsequent intensive rinsing (economy rinse removed precious metal, flow rinse with deionized water) and subsequent drying of the coated substrate, the coating process of a blank produced by zinc die-casting is completed.
The further process from the coppering in a sulfuric acid electrolyte proceeds as described above.
As already mentioned, when using the method according to the invention, refined articles are obtained for decorative purposes, which also appear to the trained eye to be particularly noble in appearance and which have an extraordinarily good usability due to the improved abrasion resistance in daily use. Likewise, it should be noted that the use of the much cheaper ruthenium in the alloys results in an essential cost advantage, which is further enhanced by the fact that due to the improved abrasion resistance, a thinner layer can be applied compared to the pure precious metal. This thinner alloy layer is supported by the use of the underlying palladium-containing underlayer, so that uniform brightness and color of the decorative article and sufficient resistance to corrosion thereof are obtained according to the present invention. These advantages were not to be expected against the background of the prior art.
It should be understood that the claimed outer layer sequence is on the surface of the metallic base substrate. The final alloy layer thus forms the outermost surface of the decorative article.

Based on a zinc die-cast jewelry blank made of zinc or a zinc alloy, this was removed by cathodic degreasing with an alkaline-cyanide cleaner for nonferrous metals (working instructions degreasing 6030, Umicore Galvanotechnik 2002) with 10 g / l KCN 20 - 40 seconds at 10 - 15 A / dm 2 degreased and freed of adhering impurities. He was then immersed in a 10% KCN solution. To remove the electrolyte residues adhering to the product, rinsing was carried out in demineralised water (economy sink, flow sink). For preconsolidation of the jewelery blanks, the cyanic-alkaline copper bath 830 (working instruction copper 830, Fa. Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2002) was used. With this a 5 - 10 microns thin layer of good gloss was achieved. To produce the required total copper layer thickness of 15-20 .mu.m, the copper bath 837 was used, with which it is possible to produce high-gloss, leveling, low-porosity and ductile copper layers (working instructions Kupfer 837, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2002). Before coppering in copper 837, after adequate rinsing, decaphene in 2-5% sulfuric acid and then rinse sufficiently. Also, prior to further coating with the palladium electrolyte, attention was paid to sufficient rinsing. According to the work instruction Palladium 457 (Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2006), the jewelery blank was treated with a weakly alkaline palladium electrolyte for decorative and technical applications. From the electrolyte approximately 2 micron thick pure palladium layers were deposited on the copper-plated pieces of jewelry. Subsequently, the now coated with palladium jewelry was rinsed in deionized water.
When using copper and copper alloys as starting material of the jewelry blanks, it was preferred with an alkaline-cyanide, cathodic working cleaner for non-ferrous metals (working instructions degreasing 6030, Umicore Galvanotechnik 2002) with 10 g / l KCN 20 - 40 seconds at 10 - 15 A. / dm 2 degreased.
After degreasing, the objects are dipped to neutralize alkali residues in dilute acid, if they then want to electroplate in an acidic electrolyte. As in the present case jewelry of brass in an acidic copper electrolyte was immersed in a 10% sulfuric acid solution.
Der weitere Ablauf ab der Verkupferung in einem schwefelsauren Elektrolyten (Arbeitsanleitung Kupfer 837, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2002), der Palladiumbeschichtung (Arbeitsanleitung Palladium 457, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2006), bis zum Aufbringen der Haftgoldschicht (Arbeitsanleitung Auruna 215, Umicore Galvanotechnik, 2002), verläuft wie in Beispiel 1 beschrieben. The further procedure from the coppering in a sulfuric acid electrolyte (working instructions copper 837, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2002), the palladium coating (working instructions Palladium 457, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2006), to applying the adhesive gold layer (working instructions Auruna 215, Umicore Galvanotechnik, 2002 ), proceeds as described in Example 1.
Based on a manufactured by zinc die-casting jewelry blank made of zinc or a zinc alloy, this was degreased as described in Example 1, by cathodic degreasing with an alkaline-cyanide cleaner for non-ferrous metals (Instructions Degreasing 6030, Umicore Galvanotechnik 2002) and freed of adhering impurities. With this a 5 - 10 microns thin layer of good gloss was achieved. The further procedure from the coppering in a sulfuric acid electrolyte (working instructions copper 837, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2002), the palladium coating (working instructions Palladium 457, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2006), to applying the adhesive gold layer (working instructions Auruna 215, Umicore Galvanotechnik, 2002 ), proceeds as already described in Examples 1 and 2.
In the present case, since pieces of jewelry made of brass should be coated in an acidic copper electrolyte, it was immersed in a 10% sulfuric acid solution.
Der weitere Ablauf ab der Verkupferung in einem schwefelsauren Elektrolyten (Arbeitsanleitung Kupfer 837, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2002), der Palladiumbeschichtung (Arbeitsanleitung Palladium 457, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2006), bis zum Aufbringen der Haftgoldschicht (Arbeitsanleitung Auruna 215, Umicore Galvanotechnik, 2002), verläuft wie in Beispiel 1 beschrieben. The further procedure from the coppering in a sulfuric acid electrolyte (working instructions copper 837, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2002), the palladium coating (working instructions Palladium 457, Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, 2006), to applying the adhesive gold layer (working instructions Auruna 215, Umicore Galvanotechnik, 2002 ), proceeds as described in Example 1.
