Definitions
- the present invention relates to an electrical connector.
- An electrical connector comprising a housing made of electrically insulating material inside which an electrical connection is made between an electrical conductor and a pinch spring made of an electrically conductive material.
- the pinch spring is in the form of a closed loop, one end of which can be operated by a technician to release a window through which the electrical conductor is introduced.
- the release maneuver is performed by inserting a tool against a wall of the pinch spring.
- the pinch spring is thus deformed and the window opens to allow insertion of the electrical conductor.
- the tool is then removed allowing the return of the pinch spring to its starting position with the electrical conductor pinched in the window.
- the tool used is generally a screwdriver, that is to say an electrically conductive tool, and if the technician is not careful, the insertion can be performed while the pinch spring and / or the electrical conductor are under voltage. The contact between the tool and the pinch spring may cause an electric shock to the technician.
- the document DE-U-94 14 939 discloses an electrical connector of this type which has a first tongue on which a user comes to press via a tool and a second tongue that the user actuates with the tool to actuate the pinch spring.
- Such a connector thus comprises two movable tongues and in particular the second tongue is mounted in such a way that it is possible for the tool to come into contact with it and possibly move between said second tongue and the pinch spring.
- DE 198 17 925 A1 discloses an electrical connector according to the preamble of claim 1.
- An object of the present invention is to provide an electrical connector which does not have the disadvantages of the prior art and which in particular allows easy and secure handling for a technician.
- the electrical connector comprises a positioning channel emerging vis-à-vis the window when the pinch spring is in the operating position.
- the depth of the positioning channel is less than the length of the stripped end.
- the electrical connector comprises a bus having an outgrowth sandwiched between said edge of the window and said end, in the rest position.
- the pinch spring has in the vicinity of the partition wall a recess inwardly of the loop.
- the pinch spring consists of a spring steel sheet whose two ends are substantially flat and connected by two circular arcs, one end is pierced with said window, and the other end is inserted. in said window.
- the pressure zone is one of the arcs of a circle.
- the Fig. 1 , the Fig. 2 and the Fig. 3 show an electrical connector 100 for receiving the stripped end 206 of an electrical conductor 204 ( Fig. 2 ).
- the Fig. 1 shows the electrical connector 100 when the electrical conductor 204 is not in place
- the Fig. 2 shows the electrical connector 100 when the electrical conductor 204 is being put in place
- the Fig. 3 shows the electrical connector 100 when the stripped end 206 of the electrical conductor 204 is in place.
- the housing 102 is pierced with a positioning channel 128 intended to allow the passage of the electrical conductor 204 and an actuating channel 126 for allowing the insertion of a tool 202.
- the positioning channel 128 and the channel actuators 126 are substantially parallel to each other and their common orientation defines an insertion direction 150 for the conductor 204 and the tool 202.
- the electrical connector 100 also comprises a bus 104 made of electrically conductive material whose one end is intended to be electrically connected to a mains conductor, said conductor of the supporting sector is a phase, the neutral.
- the bus 104 has a wall 106 which extends in a plane parallel to the insertion direction 150 from a base and which itself has an outgrowth 108 which extends in this same plane from the top of the wall 106.
- the housing 102 comprises a hollow cavity in which the pinch spring 110 and the bus 104 are housed.
- the housing 102 comprises a stud 122 around which the pinch spring 110 is engaged in order to be held in position.
- the housing 102 is closed by a not shown cover which covers the impression so as to avoid the accidental removal of the pinch spring 110 and the bus 104.
- the pinch spring 110 forms a loop and has a window 112.
- the pinch spring 110 is provided to assume a rest position ( Fig. 1 ) in which one of the edges of the window 112 abuts (here via the protrusion 108) against one of the ends 138 of said pinch spring 110 and a maneuvering position ( Fig. 2 ) in which said edge of the window 112 is not in abutment against said end 138 and in which the stripped end 206 of the electrical conductor 204 can be introduced into the window 112, the transition from the rest position to the operation is effected by pressure on a pressure zone 118 of the loop.
- the pinch spring 110 is made of a spring steel sheet shaped as a closed loop.
- the two ends 136 and 138 of the sheet are substantially flat and are connected by two circular arcs 116 and 118.
- One of the ends (here the end referenced 136) is substantially perpendicular to the insertion direction 150 and is pierced by said window 112 which extends in the depth of the sheet, that is to say perpendicularly to the plane of the sheet.
- the other end (here referenced end 138) is substantially parallel to the insertion direction 150 and has a reduction which allows its insertion into said window 112 so as to form the loop.
- the protrusion 108 is sandwiched between the left edge of the window 112 and the end 138 to provide electrical continuity. But in another embodiment, the protrusion 108 may be absent.
- the positioning channel 128 opens out towards the end 136.
- the actuating channel 126 emerges opposite the arc 118 which constitutes, in the embodiment shown, the pressure zone.
- the actuating channel 126 opens substantially tangentially to the pressure zone 118.
- the housing 102 comprises a locking housing 130 consisting of a hollow delimited by walls.
- a partition wall 124 is disposed between the housing 130 and the pinch spring 110 extends parallel to the insertion direction.
- the housing 102 comprises a protection tab 132 made of electrically insulating material which can be integral with the housing 102 and which is movable.
- the protective tongue 132 may also be an insert mounted movably in the housing 102.
- the movement of the protective tongue 132 may be likened to a rotation about an axis of rotation 134.
- the free end of the protective tongue 132 is positioned vis-à-vis the opening of the actuating channel 126 against the arc 118, that is to say the pressure zone.
- the pinch spring 110 is manipulated by applying a force to the arc of circle referenced 118.
- Fig. 1 shows the electrical connector 100 when the pinch spring 110 is not maneuvered
- the Fig. 2 shows the electrical connector 100 when the pinch spring 110 is operated using a tool 202 which is inserted into the actuating channel 126
- the Fig. 3 shows the electrical connector 100 when the pinch spring 110 is no longer maneuvered and the stripped end 206 of the conductor 204 is inserted into the window 112.
- the end of the tool 202 presses on the protection tab 132 whose end free is arranged to be interposed between the end of the tool 202 and the arc 118 of the pinch spring 110, thus isolating the tool 202 and thus avoiding any electrical discharge to the technician.
- the protection tab 132 generates a force on the circular arc 118 which causes the sheet to bend at the level of the arc 116 and a displacement of the window 112.
- the left edge of the window 112 then comes off.
- the protrusion 108 and the end 138 is found against the right edge of the window 112.
- the window 112 is positioned so that the positioning channel 128 opens out opposite the window 112.
- the technician can then introduce the conductor 204 whose stripped end 206 is housed in the window 112 between its left edge and the protrusion 108.
- the free end of the tool 202 is housed in the locking housing 130, thus avoiding any movement of the tool 202 due to the rigidity of the partition wall 124.
- the protection tab 132 is shaped to extend to the partition wall 124 when the end of the tool 202 is housed in the locking housing 130, so the technician is completely safe. It is said that the protective tongue 132 extends to the partition wall 124, when the space between the free end of the protection tongue 132 and the top of the partition wall 124 is such that the passage of the end of the tool 202 in this space is impossible. Thus the user is protected and the protection tab 132 can not be separated from the pinch spring 110 by the introduction of the tool 202.
- the removal of the tool 202 causes the release of the arc 118 and the protection tab 132.
- the left edge of the window 112 tends to return to its initial position and thus stuck the stripped end 206 of the conductor 204 against outgrowth 108.
- the pinch spring 110 has in the vicinity of the partition wall 124 a recess 120 inwardly of the loop. In the embodiment shown, this depression 120 is formed at the junction zone between the two circular arcs 116 and 118 of the pinch spring 110.
- the Fig. 4 shows a use of the invention in the case of an electrical power distribution device 400.
- a power distribution device 400 allows to connect a row of modular devices such as circuit breakers, differential switches, etc..
- the distribution device 400 comprises a housing having rows 402a-402e and a set of buses arranged parallel to each other, each being housed in one of the rows 402a-402e and constituting a power bar.
- the distribution device 400 is electrically powered by a power supply cable comprising a phase-supporting supply conductor and a supply conductor supporting each electrical phase.
- the distribution device 400 comprises, for each supply conductor, connection means 404a-404e intended to allow the connection of said connection means 404a-404e to the corresponding supply conductor.
- Each bus is electrically connected to a connecting means 404a-404e so as to distribute along this bus, the phase or the corresponding neutral.
- each row 402a-402e of the housing is pierced, for each bus, with a plurality of positioning channels 128 for insertion and fixing of a connecting conductor, and thus the electrical connection of said connecting conductor to the considered bus.
- Each connecting conductor is also electrically connected to one of the terminals of one of the modular devices.
- Each actuating channel 128 is associated with an actuating channel 126.
- a technician wishing to add or remove a connecting conductor from one of the positioning channels 128 may introduce a tool 202 into the associated actuation channel 126 and, after actuation of the protective tab 132, it can freely and safely introduce or remove the corresponding connecting conductor, without the need to cut off the power supply to the distribution device 400 and therefore all modular devices that are connected to it.
- the depth of the positioning channel 128 in the insertion direction 150 is less than the length of the stripping end. the bare end 206.
