Hierzu wird zunächst von einem Original einer einzubringenden Kennzeichnung ein Halbtonmuster in Rastertechnik erzeugt. Dabei werden unterschiedliche Helligkeitsstufen des Halbtonmusters durch eine unterschiedliche Rasterpunktdichte, eine unterschiedliche Rasterpunktgröße und/ oder durch eine unterschiedliche Rasterpunktschwärzung erzeugt. Die Qualität des so erzeugten Rasterbildes spielt dabei zunächst keine Rolle. Das Rasterbild kann zum Beispiel ein Foto wiedergeben und eine hohe Auflösung mit 300 dpi (dots per inch) oder mehr aufweisen. In einem folgenden Schritt wird das Ausgangsrasterbild vorzugsweise invertiert, so daß dunkle Bildteile hell und helle Bildteile dunkel werden. Anschließend wird das invertierte Ratserbildsoftwaretechnisch in ein Rasterbild mit kleinen Abmessungen, kleinerer Auflösung und einer bestimmten, geringen Zahl von Grauwerten überführt. Beispielsweise wird ein Grauwertbild mit Abmessungen von 10 x 12 mm erzeugt, das zwischen zwei - entsprechend einem Schwarz-Weiß-Bild - und höchstens 256 Graustufen aufweist. Für die Auflösung hat sich ein Wert zwischen 70 und 120 dpi als zweckmäßig erwiesen. Das danach vorliegende reduzierte Rasterbild wird unter Verwendung eines an sich üblichen Lasers in die metallisierte Schicht 32 des Sicherheitselementes 30 auf dem Datenträger 100 übertragen. Die Einstellung der Laserparameter des Lasers, etwa Strahldurchmesser und Pulsenergie, und die für die Erzeugung der fluoreszierenden Schicht 20, das Sicherheitselement 30 und die Deckschicht 40 verwendeten Materialien werden dabei so aufeinander abgestimmt, daß die getroffenen Bereiche, d.h. die Ausnehmungen 50, in der metallisierten Schicht 32 vollständig beseitigt werden, zugleich aber in keiner der übrigen Schichten 10, 20, 40 eine bleibende Materialveränderung entsteht. Vor allem werden die Laserparameter so gewählt, daß die Grundschicht 31 unter den Ausnehmungen 50 nicht abgetragen wird, um zu vermeiden, daß sich das Sicherheitselement 30 nicht von dem Substrat 10 bzw. von der fluoreszierenden Schicht 20 löst.In the subsequent
