Definitions

  • the invention relates to new platinum jewelery alloys as well as semi-finished products produced with the aid of these alloys.
  • platinum Because of its characteristic gray-white color, platinum has long been used in jewelry production and thus also in the jewelry industry. However, like all precious metals in the elemental state, platinum is comparatively soft, so that although it can be processed easily, it does not have the necessary strength and durability for everyday use. This is why platinum is usually alloyed with other metals, especially in the jewelery sector, in order to increase its strength. Such platinum alloys have therefore gained in recent years, an increasingly important in the jewelry industry.
  • Dual-material systems of platinum and copper are also known, for example Pt960 / Cu40. Although such alloys are easily machinable and also easily cold formable, they are comparatively soft and not suitable for jewelery purposes for every product.
  • platinum alloys used for ornamentation are based on the addition of iridium to platinum, with systems such as Pt800 / Ir200 and Pt950 / Ir50 being known, for example. Even such systems are relatively hard and therefore comparatively difficult without cutting and machinable.
  • the binary systems platinum / palladium or platinum / gold should also be mentioned, whereby systems such as Pt900 / Pd100 or Pt900 / Au100 and Pt950 / Pd50 or Pt950 / Au50 are also known here.
  • the palladium alloys are comparatively soft with the already mentioned disadvantages of such a soft material.
  • the original gray-white color of the platinum is shifted by the addition of palladium in the direction of gray, which is often not desirable for jewelry purposes. An undesirable color shift can also occur due to the gold addition in the platinum-gold alloys.
  • the high price of gold currently speaks against the use of gold as an alloying additive.
  • the JP 61186439 A discloses a platinum jewelery alloy consisting of 84% by weight to 96% by weight of platinum, 1% by weight to 15% by weight of palladium, 0.5% by weight to 10% by weight of copper and 0.1% by weight % to 7% by weight of molybdenum and / or tungsten. Accordingly, this alloy necessarily contains palladium, the use of which can lead to the abovementioned disadvantages (reduced hardness of the alloy, shift of the color of the alloy in the direction of gray).
  • the desired alloy on the one hand a high hardness and thus have a high resistance to abrasion. Also a good polishability with mechanical aids is desired.
  • the alloy should be easy to process, ie have good cold workability and should also be easy to machine, for example by turning, milling and the like. This should result in less tool wear.
  • the platinum content in the alloys according to the invention is at least 95% by weight and is preferably between 95.1% by weight and 95.5% by weight.
  • the tungsten content in the alloys according to the invention is preferably between 3.5% by weight and 4.0% by weight, in particular between 3.6% by weight and 3.9% by weight. Within the latter range, tungsten contents between 3.7% by weight and 3.8% by weight are again preferred.
  • the copper content is preferably between 0.5% by weight and 2% by weight, in particular between 0.7% by weight and 1.3% by weight. Within the last-mentioned range, copper contents between 0.9% by weight and 1.1% by weight are of particular advantage here.
  • the content of the elements from the group of ruthenium, rhodium and iridium total contents of at least one of these elements between 0.02% by weight and 0.5% by weight should be emphasized here. Within this range, the respective contents are preferably between 0.03 wt .-% and 0.1 wt .-%, in particular between 0.04 wt .-% and 0.07 wt .-%.
  • ruthenium is preferably used as the element from the group of ruthenium, rhodium and iridium in the alloys according to the invention.
  • the invention comprises a semi-finished product for decorative purposes, which is at least partially, but preferably completely, made of the described alloys according to the invention.
  • these semi-finished products are prefabricated geometric shapes from the corresponding alloy material, which are then further processed manually or industrially to the respective jewelry end products.
  • such semi-finished products are generally for example pipes, rods, rings, sheets, strips, wires and the like.
  • the semifinished products according to the invention are tubular or annular semi-finished products.
  • the resulting alloy melt is cold worked by drawing into a tube to form a fine-grained texture.
  • the color of the obtained alloy corresponds to the desired platinum color, namely gray-white.
  • the resulting tubular semi-finished products can be processed in the usual way artisanal or industrial in conventional jewelry products, the material has sufficient hardness with good cold workability.
  • the material can also be machined very well and is easy to polish. Any kind of setting for gems can be made of the material of the invention or incorporated into this by means of suitable tools.
  • the material is also diamond able.
