Description

The present invention relates to the field of absorbent papers based on cellulose wadding, for sanitary or domestic use such as toilet paper, towels or any paper wiping, napkins ...

For the production of such products, cellulose wadding, also known as tissue paper, is generally used. It is a low weight absorbent paper, between 10 and 45 g / m 2 , obtained wet from paper fibers. It includes, possibly, chemical additives in small proportions, according to the use for which it is intended. It can be obtained by pressing the still wet sheet on a heated cylinder of large diameter, on which it is dried and from which it is then detached by means of a metal blade applied against it, transversely to its direction of rotation. This operation is intended to crepe the sheet which then has transverse corrugations to its direction walk. The crepe gives the sheet a certain elasticity at the same time as it increases its thickness and gives it tactile properties.

Another known method of manufacture comprises a first step of drying the sheet, at least in part, by means of a stream of hot air therethrough. This can then be creped or not.

In general, the sheet thus manufactured is then transformed into another distinct phase of production known as transformation or conversion and associated with other sheets then called folds to form the final absorbent paper product.

Indeed, when it is desired to confer particular properties on a sheet such as thickness, softness, swelling, one can choose to associate several plies between them.

The association can be of a chemical nature by gluing, for example, or of a mechanical nature.

As regards bonding, the known methods consist in depositing a film of glue on all or part of the surface of one of the plies, and then in contacting the glued surface with the surface of at least one other ply.

This type of association requires specific equipment, additional in the production line which represents a cost, additional technical difficulties. In addition, the glue itself is expensive, clogs the cylinders of the embossing unit and may induce additional undesired stiffness on the final product whose softness will be by elsewhere diminished by the presence of glue. These disadvantages have led some manufacturers to turn to mechanical type associations.

In this case, the combination of the folds can be performed by knurling or by compression, in the conversion or conversion phase.

Knurling conventionally consists in compressing the folds to be associated between a wheel (or engraved wheel, provided with elements in relief) and a smooth cylinder.

Each knurled band corresponds to the width of a wheel. The bands can form decorative strips on the sheet.

As an illustration, the patent US 3,377,224 describes a "tissue" paper made by such a method. Since a very limited width of paper is knurled, a significant disadvantage lies in the delamination of the non-knurled areas.

In addition, the association by knurling is limited when it is desired to make patterns across the width of a width. Indeed, even if a large number of knurls are arranged side by side (thus creating a large number of bands) there may be areas without knurling.

The document EP 1 362 953 illustrates a particular example of an installation and method using knurling. The major difference with respect to the basic method described above is that the combination of folds takes place in wide parallel bands (machine running direction) on the sheet, and in that one applies a film of additive such as oil on at least one of the faces of the sheet to obtain watermarking simultaneously with the combination.

Moreover, the knurling generally creates problems of legibility of the embossed pattern if it exists, because, in known manner, the knurling overwrites the embossing patterns already formed on the sheet.

In addition, in the case where a large number of knurls is used, the adjustment and / or setting of the knurls makes production difficult and complex.

The document is also known EP 1,533,112 or EP 0 672 402 which describe methods and installations for combining several folds made of cellulose wadding, according to which the combination is produced by knurling the folds which pass between at least one series of rolls engraved in different patterns and a pressure cylinder or cylinder marryer, under a certain pressure.

These solutions are interesting but cause problems especially in the areas (bands) between the wheels because once again the sheet has not been compressed folds that constitute it are not associated in these areas. The leaves therefore have more or less broad bands that are not associated and lack motives.

In addition, these prior solutions induce constraints on the engraving patterns of the rollers as soon as it is desired to produce a uniform pattern over the entire width of the roll.

Indeed after such an association the rolls (or log) obtained being cut to form the final rolls (paper towels, toilet paper or other destination), if discontinuities (or absence) of engravings are present, the cut should It must be done in the discontinuities which requires very fine adjustments and tolerances of the cutting tool.

A need therefore exists for easy and fast industrial production of multi-ply sheets of cellulose wadding, associated by marking and without bonding.

The subject of the present invention is a method of association without glue, by pressure marking of at least two plies based on cellulose wadding, characterized in that it consists of embossing in an embossing pattern at least a first fold by passage between a first cylinder and a cylinder externally covered with a rubber, then to associate at least one second fold with said first fold by passing said folds between a first engraved steel cylinder of axis CC 'and at least one first series of small coaxial cylinders externally smooth axis XX ', then between said first cylinder and a second series of small coaxial cylinders externally smooth axes YY', the axes CC ', XX' and YY 'being horizontal and parallel.

Thus, a combination of several plies, of good quality, is made in a simple, reliable manner and with an interesting production speed.

The association is operated according to all or part of the embossing pattern and / or engraving of the engraved cylinder, uniformly over the entire width of the folds to be associated.

According to the invention, the small cylinders of each series are axially spaced from each other by a distance substantially equal to their width, and arranged in a staggered sequence from one series to another, so that a width of recovery in the cross direction is between 0.1 mm and about 10 mm, preferably 1 mm, is carried out.

This characteristic makes it possible to obtain a regularly distributed association, very uniform throughout the width of a log, even if it is relatively large.

No crease or peeling is observed on the width produced. The cutting of the rolls is therefore less delicate because it requires less precision. Thus production at a higher speed than in the prior art can be achieved.

According to a particular embodiment of the invention, at least one of the plies is embossed individually prior to the association.

Without departing from the scope of the invention, at least one of the plies is not embossed before the association.

Par ailleurs, les axes XX' et YY' sont angulairement écartés d'un angle α mesuré selon l'axe CC', compris entre 10° et 180°.Furthermore, the axes XX 'and YY' are angularly spaced from an angle α measured along the axis CC ', between 10 ° and 180 °.

Advantageously, the folds pass under a third series of small smooth cylinders cooperating with said engraved cylinder.

Interestingly, all or part of the small cylinders are individually adjustable in pressure against the engraved cylinder and / or, in axial positioning and / or "pseudo axial" as will be explained below.

This modularity and this individual adjustment of the knobs (or small cylinders) makes it possible to evenly distribute the loads along the width regardless of its size and especially when the engraved cylinder has an arrow in the center.

Advantageously, the plies to be associated are pressed against the engraved cylinder during and between all the steps of the association.

Par ailleurs, le cylindre caoutchouc, le premier cylindre et les petits cylindres, sont respectivement positionnés et réglés de telle sorte que le contact entre le premier cylindre gravé et chacun des petits cylindres lisses est réalisé sous une pression spécifique comprise entre environ 40 et environ 250 N/mm2.Furthermore, the rubber cylinder, the first cylinder and the small cylinders are respectively positioned and adjusted so that the contact between the first engraved cylinder and each of the small smooth cylinders is made under a specific pressure of between about 40 and about 250 N / mm 2 .

The invention further relates to the installation for implementing the method, as protected by claims 11 to 14 defined below.

So, according to the scheme of the figure 1 , the combination of plies based on cellulose wadding is essentially achieved through their successive passage between a first series of rollers or small smooth cylinders 1 and an engraved cylinder 2 at a first "nip", then between a second series of rollers or small smooth rollers 3 and said engraved roll 2.

The engraved cylinder 2 may be externally constituted of a steel and has for example a diameter of about 600 mm, and a length of 2700 mm, or even 3400 mm.

Without departing from the scope of the invention, the engraved cylinder 2 can be externally hardened.

Another cylinder 4 externally coated with rubber is further provided. A hardness rubber of for example between 40 and 80 ShA (Shore A hardness) is used.

All cylinders 1, 2, 3, 4 have axes of rotation parallel to each other, horizontal.

Moreover, the small cylinders (or wheels) 1, 3 can be made of hardened steel.

Advantageously, the cylinders and series of cylinders are arranged as illustrated on the figure 1 the axes (respectively CC 'and AA') of the engraved cylinders 2, and of rubber 4 belonging substantially to the same horizontal plane, while the axes of rotation XX 'and YY' of the small cylinders 1, 3 are angularly spaced from an angle α measured along the axis CC 'of the engraved cylinder.

The angle α may be between 10 ° and 180 °, preferably between 90 and 150 °.

The series of small cylinders 1, 3 are arranged in a sector opposite to that to which the rubber cylinder 4 belongs, so that an equilibrium of forces applied to the engraved cylinder is generally and easily realized.

Selon le mode de réalisation illustré à la figure 1, un premier pli (ou groupe de plis) 5 est gaufré entre le cylindre caoutchouc 4 et le cylindre gravé 2.According to the embodiment illustrated in figure 1 a first fold (or group of folds) 5 is embossed between the rubber roll 4 and the engraved roll 2.

As will be further explained below, the embossing patterns may advantageously be any, continuous, uniform or not along the width. In other words the embossing patterns can be chosen without constraint by the manufacturer.

Un deuxième pli ou groupe de plis 6 peut en outre être amené (par tout moyen connu en soi et non représenté) dans le nip entre le cylindre gravé 2 et la première série de molettes 1, où il est associé au premier pli (ou groupe de plis) 5.A second fold or group of folds 6 can also be brought (by any means known per se and not shown) into the nip between the engraved roll 2 and the first set of rollers 1, where it is associated with the first fold (or group folds) 5.

An association is thus made at the level of the protrusions of the engraved cylinder, on a part of the surface of the folds, in strips parallel to the direction of travel of the sheets.

This association is completed since the two folds thus positioned and associated then pass into the nip between the second series of small smooth cylinders 3 and the engraved cylinder 2.

The small smooth cylinders 3 being transversely offset vis-à-vis the small cylinders 1, as visible on the figures 2 and 3 Thus, an association is made on the entire surface of the width.

Elle peut raisonnablement être comprise entre 0,1 et 10 mm.Advantageously, an axial zone of overlap (e) surfaces covered by the wheels is provided as illustrated by the diagram of the figure 3 . A covering width (e) more specifically recommended is at least 0.1 mm and preferably about 1 mm. It can reasonably be between 0.1 and 10 mm.

This particular offset ensures the association across the width of the width without any unassociated area and with a certain tolerance for the positioning of each of the small cylinders.

Avantageusement on observe selon l'invention une meilleure visibilité du motif de gaufrage au niveau des zones d'association car la pression exercée entre le cylindre gravé 2 et les petits cylindres 1, 3, au moment de l'association crée un filigranage du papierAdvantageously, according to the invention, a better visibility of the embossing pattern at the association zones is observed because the pressure exerted between the engraved cylinder 2 and the small cylinders 1, 3 at the time of the combination creates a watermarking paper.

The constraints inherent in the known methods (especially with regard to the reason for association) are therefore non-existent according to the invention.

The embossing pattern may be uniform across the width, at one or more levels, or different in parallel stripes.

Par ailleurs, le deuxième pli (ou groupe de plis) 6 peut être gaufré ou non, crêpé ou non lorsqu'il rejoint le premier pli 5 au niveau du nip entre le cylindre gravé 2 et la première série de petits cylindre 1.Furthermore, the second fold (or group of folds) 6 can be embossed or not, creped or not when it joins the first fold 5 at the nip between the engraved cylinder 2 and the first series of small cylinder 1.

In addition, the defects in geometry of the engraved cylinder 2 and / or the wheels 1, 3 are compensated by the use of individually adjustable wheels: more precisely the support force of each wheel 1, 3 against the engraved cylinder 2 can be set as well as its position on one of the axes XX 'or YY'.

This modularity in the adjustment of the wheels has a direct impact on the quality of the product obtained.

Each wheel can be moved along its axis of rotation (XX ', YY') to adjust the overlap width (e) above.

Here it is a question of adjusting angularly the axis of rotation of each wheel vis-à-vis the axis of rotation of the engraved cylinder 2.

Without departing from the scope of the invention and without changing the relative positioning of each of the cylinders or cylinder series 1, 2, 3, 4, the orientation of this assembly may be different from that illustrated and explained above.

In particular the axes AA 'and CC' of the cylinders 2 and 4 may belong not to a horizontal plane but to a vertical or substantially vertical plane.

In all cases, it is sought to distribute the forces applied to the engraved cylinder 2, optimally.

The arrangement of the main elements required for the invention advantageously allows the use of the same engraved cylinder 2 at a time for the embossing of at least one ply and for the association by marking of several plies.

Par ailleurs, selon une variante de l'invention, les molettes peuvent être réparties sur plus de deux axes de rotation, les axes étant disposés autour du cylindre gravé 2 de façon à équilibrer les forces s'exerçant sur le cylindre 2.Furthermore, according to a variant of the invention, the knurls can be distributed over more than two axes of rotation, the axes being arranged around the engraved cylinder 2 so as to balance the forces acting on the cylinder 2.

By way of illustrative example, it has been realized according to the invention toilet paper sheets consisting of two plies of cellulose wadding type CWP (Conventional Wet Press) total weight equal to 42 g / m 2 . One of the plies is embossed before the association, by a microgaufrage comprising more than 30 protuberances / cm 2 ; the other ply is embossed between the cylinders 4 and 2 with a pattern comprising a regular network of large and small protuberances: the large protuberances being aligned and forming rhombs within which the small protuberances are arranged with a high density.

The two plies are associated through two sets of knobs 1, 3, each wheel of each series having a width of 80 mm; the wheels 1 are offset with respect to the rollers 3 so that there is a covering (e) of about 1 mm.

Les molettes lisses sont extérieurement durcies et présentent une dureté inférieure de 2 à 20 HRC par rapport à celle du cylindre gravé 2.Furthermore the engraved cylinder 2 has been externally hardened and has an external hardness of 57 HRC (Rockwell hardness known to those skilled in the art). The smooth wheels are externally hardened and have a hardness of 2 to 20 HRC lower than that of the engraved cylinder 2.

As an illustration, the smooth wheels 1, 3 may have an external hardness of 47 HRC.

The speeds of scrolling folds, at the level of the association, can be of the order of 450 m / min, or even more depending on the type of manufacture.
