Definitions
- the invention relates to the technical sector concerning collection of refuse.
- the invention relates to a structure for moving containers, destined for collection of refuse, arranged in a specially-provided underground chamber.
- the separate collection of types of refuse includes use of a plurality of containers, each of which is destined to contain a different type of waste product, both recyclable and not. These containers usually serve a city block, a group of houses or a single condominium, and are thus of a suitable size for receiving all the refuse produced for one or two days, according to the frequency of collection.
- the type of refuse collection depends in some way on the type of recycling plant which is destined to receive the refuse. For example, separate containers may be required for non-recyclable dry refuse, for damp refuse destined for composting, for paper, glass, plastic, aluminium and steel. If the recycling plants include separating systems for glass and plastic, aluminium and steel, a single originating container may be sufficient.
- a collection method includes storage of refuse of a whole condominium for one or more days within the area of the same block, or condominium. The collection, whether separate or not, is thus done inside the precincts of the actual condominium.
- a further drawback is that the containers are often the subject of the unwanted attention of vandals and delinquents, which can lead indeed to the destruction of the containers, or at least to their damage and the spreading-about of the refuse contained therein.
- a further drawback is constituted by the odours which can emanate from the containers, especially in summer, due to the decomposing of the organic substances present in the refuse. These substances can often also be found as a residue in recyclable refuse such as glass, plastic, aluminium or steel.
- the prior art comprises above-cited containers internally of underground compartments, suitably closed by a lid.
- An example of this installation typology is described in European patent application no. EP 1 655 241 , filed in the name of the same applicant.
- the above application describes a plant for containing one or more refuse bags arranged internally of a mobile frame, in turn contained in an underground compartment.
- a lid is associated to the frame, provided with a turret, a sort of tubular tower provided superiorly with inlet mouths for refuse, connected to an opening afforded in the lid, in order to permit the direct introduction of refuse into the bag while the bag is underground.
- the frame is mobile between a completely underground position and a raised position, in which it emerges totally from the ground, in order to enable extraction of the full bags and the positioning of new empty bags.
- the movement of the frame is given by a system of vertical motorised trolleys guided by linear rails.
- the trolleys are activated with the aid of pulleys and suitable counterweights, in order to limit the stress on the motor organs.
- the above-described device however has the drawback of being poorly practical during the stages of insertion and extraction of the bags in and from the frame.
- the work usually has to be done by specialist ecological operators or by a specifically-employed person, and is not usually liked by these operators, who are usually reluctant to work with frames in which the contact with the refuse is practically zero.
- the main aim of the present invention is to provide a structure for moving underground containers which resolves all of the above-cited drawbacks.
- a further aim of the invention is that it provides a sturdy structure which is reliable and easy to maintain.
- an underground structure for refuse collection which includes a superiorly-open underground chamber, internally of which a frame is housed, also superiorly open.
- the frame is made mobile alternatively in a vertical direction, between an extreme underground position A and an extreme surface or above surface level position B, by movement and guide means, on command of the suitable command and/or control means of the movement.
- a lid is included for closing the underground chamber with the frame in the underground position thereof A, and for opening in order to enable the frame to move into the surface or above surface level position B.
- the frame is also open at least on a lateral surface thereof.
- a plurality of containers is further included, which contain refuse or the like, arranged internally of the frame and destined to be inserted and extracted through the open lateral surface thereof.
- the structure is particularly destined to be used for the collection of refuse, whether separate or not, in urban areas which are particularly aesthetically attractive, or internally of condominium areas.
- the structure 1 comprises an underground chamber 1 which is superiorly open and substantially parallelepiped, an upper edge of which is at ground surface level.
- a frame 2 is mounted internally of the underground chamber 1, made in a superiorly-open hopper shape, alternatively mobile between an extreme underground position A (see figure 14a ) and an extreme surface or above surface level position B ( figure 14b ).
- the frame 2 also has a substantially parallelepiped shape, and exhibits a completely-open lateral surface 21.
- the frame 2 can also exhibit different conformations, for example a tubular or web structure.
- a plurality of refuse containers 6 is located in the frame 2, arranged aligned internally of the frame 2.
- the containers 6 are provided with wheels 61, positioned towards the open lateral surface 21 of the frame 2, for easing the introduction and removal of the containers 6 via the open lateral surface 21.
- Movement and guide organs 4 of the frame 2 between the above-mentioned extreme underground A and surface or above surface level B positions are located inside the underground chamber 1.
- the movement and guide organs 4 are illustrated in greater detail in figures 13 , 14a and 14b .
- the movement and guide organs 4 are arranged in the underground chamber 1 on the side of the underground chamber which is opposite the side corresponding to the introduction and extraction of the containers 6 from the frame 2.
- They comprise a pair of lateral rails 41, 42, vertically fixed to corresponding shelves 41 a, 42a extending from a lateral wall of the underground chamber 1 and oriented in such as way as to present the respective grooves thereof positioned opposite one another.
- a pair of trucks 43, 44 are engaged in the lateral rails 41, 42, mounted on brackets 45, 46 fixed laterally to the lower part of the frame 2, on the side of the frame 2 opposite the open lateral surface 21. In this way the frame 2 is slidable in a vertical direction.
- the ends of a pair of chains 47, 48 are also fixed to the lower part of the frame 2, on the same side thereof, and extend upwards, to opposite ends of which are respectively fixed a pair of counterweights 49, 50.
- the chains 47, 48 engage in a pair of pinions 49a, 50a arranged in proximity of the upper edge of the underground chamber 1, aligned with the chains 47, 48.
- the pinions are keyed 49a, 50a to an axle of a drive shaft 31, arranged horizontally and longitudinally in the underground chamber 1.
- the drive shaft 31 is rotated by motor organs 3 (see also figure 15 ) constituted, in the illustrated embodiment, by an electric gear reducer group.
- motor organs 103 are included which comprise a hydraulic cylinder, having a head of a piston thereof coupled to a drive shaft 104.
- the shaft bears, keyed on an axle thereof, a pair of pulleys 49a, 50a, as described herein above.
- a second variant, illustrated in figure 17 includes motor organs 203 comprising a nut screw 204 arranged vertically, mechanically connected to a gear reducer group 205.
- This group 205 is arranged in the upper part of the underground chamber 1, laterally with respect to the frame 2.
- the frame 2 is provided with another frame 206 provided with threaded bushings 207, which engage the nut screw 204 and cause it to lift and lower the frame 2 in a way which is easily imaginable.
- a third variant, illustrated in figure 17 also includes motor organs 303 comprising a nut screw 204 arranged vertically and being mechanically connected to a gear reducer group 205.
- the group is arranged in the lower part of the underground chamber 1, laterally with respect to the frame 2.
- the frame 2 is provided with another frame 206 provided with threaded bushings 207, which engage the nut screw 204 and cause it to lift and lower the frame 2.
- the motor organs are commanded by command and/or control means of the frame 2, of known type, which command the raising and subsequent lowering of the frame 2, with the consent of sensor organs 80 which will be better described herein below.
- the activation of the motor organs can be for example commanded by an operator, by means of a button, or can be timed to occur at predefined moments.
- a mobile footplate 70 is located in the lower part of the open lateral side of the frame 2 (see figures 14a , 14b ), which footplate 70 is destined to close the space between the edge of the frame 2 itself at the open lateral surface 21 and the lateral edge of the underground chamber 1, such as to facilitate the introduction and extraction of the containers 6.
- the footplate is provided with suitable counterweights 71, arranged laterally, which bring the footplate into a horizontal position on completion of the raising operation of the frame 2.
- the footplate 70 is kept in a non-interfering position with the raising and lowering of the frame 2 by the contact with the lateral wall of the underground chamber 1.
- the structure of the invention further comprises a lid 5 which closes the underground chamber 1 when the frame 2 is in the underground position A, and which opens to enable the frame 2 to be brought into the surface or above surface level position B.
- the lid 5 (see figures 14a and 14b ) is associated to the frame 2 and is tiltable with respect to the frame by means of a pair of pivots 51 inserted in corresponding grooves 23, realised in proximity of the lateral edge 22 of the frame 2 which is opposite the open lateral surface 21 thereof.
- the lid 5 is further provided with tilting means 52 for producing the tilting of the lid 5, by consequence of the raising of the frame 2, specially delayed with respect to the start of the raising operation.
- the tilting means comprise a cord 53 fixed at an end thereof in proximity of a aside 54 of the lid 5 opposite the open lateral surface 21 of the frame 2.
- the cord 53 is inserted slidably on an annular guide 11 fixed to the wall of the underground chamber 1.
- the cord 53 is further provided, at an opposite end thereof, with a stop 55 that defines the endrun for the cord 53 and, by consequence, the moment at which the lid 5 commences to tilt.
- the tilting of the lid 5 enables introduction of refuse into the containers 6, in a way which is easy and independent of the size of the refuse or the wrapper containing them.
- Figures 5, 6, 7 and 8 illustrate a second embodiment of the structure of the invention, which includes a different arrangement of the containers 6 in the frame 2.
- the frame 2 possesses two open lateral surfaces 21, 22, opposite one another, realised in this case on adjacent sides to the side on which the previously-described movement organs are located.
- the containers 6 are arranged in the frame 2 aligned in two rows, respectively facing towards each of the open lateral surfaces 21, 22 in order to enable extraction and introduction thereof.
- figures 9, 10 and 11 show a lid 150 which represents a variant provided as an alternative to the above-described tiltable realisation.
- an opening 150 is afforded in the lid 150, surmounted by a turret 151 provided with inlet mouths 153 for the refuse to be conveyed towards the underlying containers 6.
- the turret 151 is arranged such as to interest a plurality of containers 6, and is provided with walls which convey refuse separately towards each of the above-mentioned containers 6.
- a turret 152 of an openable lid 154 is provided, which enables introduction of large-format refuse.
- the lid 150 is in this case fixed to the upper part of the frame 2 and moves solidly there-with.
- the above-mentioned presence sensor means 80 are located in proximity of the underground chamber 1, and are connected to the command and control means, destined to signal the presence of persons or animals in proximity of the underground chamber 1, at the start of the raising or lowering operations, in order to enable the command and control means to disable, if need be, the performing of these operations.
- the presence sensor means 80 are preferably constituted by a common infrared presence sensor having a suitable field of detection.
- FIGS 19 and 20 show a frame 2 in which containers are housed, as previously described, but the containers are lower, leaving space for introduction of refuse from the open side (or the open sides) of the frame 2.
- pivots 171 which extend vertically in an upwards direction.
- the structure further includes a lid 180 provided in a lower surface 181 thereof with a plurality of L-shaped brackets 182.
- the brackets 182 are equal in number to the pivots 171 of the frame 2, are provided with vertical-axis through-holes 183 and are arranged such that each hole 183 can be aligned with a corresponding pivot 171.
- the lid 180 with the frame 2 in the raised position thereof ( figure 20 ) is arranged resting on the frame 2, with the holes 183 engaging the respective pivots 171.
- the lid 180 is brought to rest on the structure of the chamber 1, while the pivots 171 of the frame remain engaged in the holes 183. In this way it is guaranteed that the lid 180 remains solidly hooked to the frame 2 in all operative conditions.
- the above-described invention offers numerous advantages. Firstly, the collection, keeping and removal of refuse in a condominium or an urban area can be performed in a practically invisible structure.
- the conformation of the frame 2 enables the containers 6 to be introduced and extracted even when they are full of refuse, in a very easy, rapid and safe way.
- the structure of the containers 6 themselves aids these operations, as the containers 6 are provided with wheels and are therefore easy to manoeuvre and transport.
