  • the buttons are usually mechatronic mechanisms or devices (switches, etc.) which, on being operated by the user, open or close different electrical contacts on the PCB.
  • the buttons usually have an informative icon painted or engraved on them, indicating the function linked to each button.
  • the PCB usually situated below the buttons, includes the necessary circuitry so that when buttons are pressed an appropriate signal is sent to an ECU (Electronic Control Unit) located in the vehicle.

  • the present invention seeks to provide a design for a control panel for a vehicle door armrest which offers certain advantages in relation to conventional control panels. For example, it seeks to reduce the number of components that make up the control panel. In the case of conventional control panels, a relatively high number of components are required, as has been explained: a cover, a button or independent mechantronic device for each function or icon, a PCB and a PCB support.

  • the PCB (5) is located below the rigid external component (2), with the electrode (7) being located just below an operating area (3).
  • This electrode (7) therefore enables presence detection specifically in this operating area (3). It must be emphasised that this is presence detection, i.e. it is not essential for the user to go so far as to touch the external component (2). This is due to the fact that the detection range of the electrode (7) is capable of going beyond the external component (2) made of thermoplastic material which is above the PCB.
