Definitions

  • Generator-motor used for electric power supply, starting the internal combustion engine and prime mover propulsion
  • the presented invention relates to the device for generating direct and or alternating current starting the internal combustion engine and or propulsion of the mobile unit particularly boat, ship, yacht, sailboat, ship crane, agricultural machinery, excavator etc. with a maintenance free generator-motor unit, combined with an internal combustion engine, a clutch unit and a transmission.
  • a maintenance free generator-motor unit combined with an internal combustion engine, a clutch unit and a transmission.
  • this invention it is possible to drive a mobile unit with internal combustion engine or electrically through the simple generator-motor, fed by batteries through DC-AC converter in both directions. It is also possible to generate electric DC and or AC power by the same generator-motor driven by internal combustion engine and added electric-electronic components.
  • the mobile unit is equipped with a maintenance free high frequency generator-motor, integrated in the flywheel housing of the internal combustion engine.
  • the flywheel housing is protected by gaskets and watertight cable connection to avoid water entrance to the electric generator motor and its windings, when the water enters the floating mobile unit.
  • the generator-motor is equipped with permanent magnet rotor poles with a high number of poles to enable high generator frequency and high motor torque from a relatively small unit.
  • the rotor poles are preferably made from rare earth permanent magnets. With a high generator- motor frequency, sufficient electric generator power is available at a low engine speed, enabling full electric power generation with low noise and low pollution burden, when the internal combustion engine does not drive the mobile unit with high power output.
  • the generator-motor windings are connected to the DC-AC converter to operate the generator-motor as the engine starter. In this case the clutch connecting crankshaft prolonging shaft with the generator-motor rotor is engaged.
  • the DC-AC converter is controlled by the remote control, placed at the mobile unit operator panel. An automatic starting of the internal combustion engine is also possible when the battery voltage is too low. For a mobile unit electric drive, the clutch connecting internal combustion engine with the generator-motor rotor is disengaged, and.
  • the generator- motor windings are connected and controlled in the same way.
  • the generator-motor windings are also connected to the AC-DC rectifier to supply the DC voltage to the DC- DC converter over DC filter for regulating the generated DC voltage, charging the batteries and feeding the DC-AC inverter for constant voltage and frequency AC mobile unit supply.
  • an electric motor is foreseen, preferably a thermostatically speed controlled version.
  • a separate electric starter motor is also not needed reducing the cost dimensions and weight of the equipment.
  • the flywheel does not need teeth for starter engagement, and can be easily used also as the second torsion damper by adding damping material and the second ring. (This feature is not shown on the Figures)
  • the patent SI 21586 describes a combination of an internal combustion engine with a maintenance free generator, integrated in the flywheel housing and connected to an electronic device, to transfer the three phase AC current with variable voltage to the constant voltage AC and DC outputs.
  • the provision is made to use the generator as the engine starter. With this solution the generator is connected to the flywheel and crankshaft.
