Abstract

The packet (1) has a group of articles (2) arranged in rows, and a side (16) disposed on the articles, where the side is formed from a rigid or semi-rigid material e.g. plastic such as polypropylene. An upper panel covers an opposing top (10) of one of the rows of the articles. The side includes two lateral panels that are folded against the articles and cover an upper part of the articles, laterally, where the upper part of the articles is splayed.

Description

The invention relates to the packaging of articles. More specifically, it relates to packages in which the articles are kept grouped by means of a film enclosing them.

This type of package is commonly encountered in the agri-food field, particularly for the packaging of bottles or beverage cans.

An ordinary package includes a group of items wrapped in heat-shrunk plastic film. A group of items such as bottles has many reliefs and hollows. Because of its elasticity, the film marries the reliefs and partially fills the hollows between the articles. This property of the film makes it possible to ensure good cohesion of the group of articles, especially during the various manipulations that the package undergoes.

On the other hand, this elasticity proves to be a disadvantage when it comes to unpacking the articles: it is necessary to pull the film to access the first articles, then tear it again to reach the following ones.

A proposal for a solution to this problem is set out in the European patent EP 717,712 , which discloses a package containing a group of bottles wrapped in a heat-shrunk plastic film provided with precut lines arranged between two successive rows of bottles, to allow easy opening of the package and separation of rows of bottles.

However, the bottles being extracted from the pack in pairs with a film residue enclosing each extracted pair, it is necessary systematically to access the bottles. items of each pair extracted, tear off the residual film. This solution to the problem explained above is therefore only partial.

The invention aims to provide an alternative solution, which facilitates the extraction of articles from a film package.

A cet effet, l'invention propose un paquet comprenant :

  • un groupe d'articles agencés en plusieurs rangées composées chacune d'au moins deux articles adjacents, dont une première rangée située à une extrémité avant du paquet, chaque article présentant un fond et un sommet opposés ;
  • un film enserrant le tout ;
For this purpose, the invention proposes a package comprising:
  • a group of articles arranged in several rows each composed of at least two adjacent articles, including a first row located at a front end of the package, each article having an opposite bottom and an apex;
  • a flank made of a rigid or semi-rigid material disposed on the articles and comprising an upper panel covering the vertices of at least one row of articles; and
  • a film enclosing everything;
which package is characterized according to the invention in that said upper panel of the sidewall covers the vertices of the articles of all the rows except the vertices of the articles of the first row.

The flank avoids the formation of depressions in the film between the covered articles and facilitates the extraction thereof; the fact that it leaves uncovered the items of the first row facilitates the extraction thereof by simply pulling the film, which is particularly advantageous when the items are containers.

According to a preferred embodiment, the sidewall comprises two lateral panels folded against the articles and which laterally cover an upper part thereof, this upper part being flared from the top towards the bottom.

In addition, the side panels have preferably advances that cover laterally, at least partially, the articles of the first row.

As for the film, it is preferably provided with a precut which extends between the first row and the adjacent row, following, at least locally, a front edge of the sidewall.

According to one embodiment, the sidewall is made of cardboard, whose grammage is greater than 280 g / m 2 , and for example 320 g / m 2 or 380 g / m 2 approximately.

Furthermore, the sidewall may have two retractable flaps made in the upper panel, delimited by cutouts having a concavity facing a rear end of the pack, opposite the front end.

In a particular embodiment, the package comprises eight articles grouped into four rows of two articles each. The articles are for example containers, and in particular bottles.

  • la figure 1 est une vue en perspective d'un paquet d'articles selon l'invention ;
  • la figure 2 est une vue d'élévation de côté du paquet de la figure 1 ;

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent in the light of the description given hereinafter with reference to the appended drawings in which:
  • the figure 1 is a perspective view of a pack of articles according to the invention;
  • the figure 2 is a side elevation view of the pack of the figure 1 ;
  • the figure 3 is a view similar to the figure 1 in which manual gripping means of the package are in a different configuration;
  • the figures 4 and 5 are views similar to the figure 1 , which illustrate the opening of the package and the extraction of articles thereof;
  • the Figures 6, 7 , 8 and 9 are views illustrating steps of a method of manufacturing the package.

On the figure 1 This package 1 comprises a plurality of articles 2 (here containers such as bottles or flasks), in this case eight in number, grouped in rows of two adjacent articles 2.

In the remainder of the description, reference 2 will be used to name articles or containers indifferently.

En partant d'une extrémité avant 3 du paquet 1, on nomme première rangée la rangée 4 d'articles 2 située à l'extrémité avant 3, et, successivement, deuxième rangée 5, troisième rangée 6 et quatrième rangée 7 les rangées suivantes jusqu'à une extrémité arrière 8 du paquet 1, opposée à l'extrémité avant 3 et où se trouve la quatrième rangée 7.Starting from a front end 3 of the package 1, the first row is called row 4 of articles 2 located at the front end 3, and, successively, second row 5, third row 6 and fourth row 7 the following rows until at a rear end 8 of the pack 1, opposite the front end 3 and where the fourth row 7 is located.

Each article, when constituted by a container 2, such as a bottle or a bottle, presents:
  • a background 9,
  • a top 10, opposite the bottom 9 and defined by a neck 11 surmounted by a plug 12,
  • a side wall 13 comprising a substantially cylindrical lower portion 14, referred to as a body, and a flared upper portion 15 (frustoconical in this case, the base of the truncated cone being located at its junction with the body 14), called shoulder, which connects the vertex 10 to the body 14.

As is visible on the figure 1 , the package 1 further comprises a flank 16, made of a rigid or semi-rigid material and comprising a substantially plane upper panel 17, which covers the vertices 10 of the containers 2 of the second, third and fourth rows 5, 6, 7 leaving open the tops 10 of the containers 2 of the first row 4, a front edge 18 of the upper panel 17 extending between the vertices 10 of the containers 2 of the first row 4 and those of the second row 5, substantially parallel to them.

The flank 16 is preferably made of cardboard, with a basis weight preferably greater than 280 g / m 2 . According to a particular embodiment, the basis weight of the board is 320 g / m 2 ; it can also be 380 g / m 2 . Alternatively, the flank 16 may be made of plastics such as polypropylene.

The package 1 finally comprises a film 19 enclosing the whole, that is to say, together the containers 2 and the sidewall 16. This is a plastic film (such as polyethylene) heat shrunk, which, in the parts of the containers 2 not covered by the flank 16, substantially matches the shapes of the containers 2 (in particular at the body 14 and the bottom 9), but which, at the top 10 of the containers 2, in the rows 5, 6, 7 covered, extends in the plane of flank 16:

In this way, once the part of the film 19 which encloses the first row 4 of containers 2 is torn off, and after having extracted the latter, the containers 2 of the following rows 5, 6, 7 are easily accessible, the extraction of which is facilitated. by the presence of the flank 16. Indeed, the flank 16 provides the dual function of preventing the film 19 to fill, even partially, the hollows between the vertices 10 of the containers 2, and, by the smooth appearance of its inner face (ie the side turned towards the containers 2), not to oppose resistance to the extraction of containers 2.

On the other hand, in the case of a heat-shrinked film alone enveloping a group of articles, not only the hollows of the film oppose the extraction thereof, but the film also has a tendency to adhere to the surfaces. with whom he is in contact. Furthermore, in the other particular case of a package comprising a cardboard flank surmounting the articles but provided with wedging means thereof, formed for example by folds or cuts (see for example the American patent Chapman No . US 3,747,750 ), these wedging means also oppose the extraction of articles, except tear the flank.

It is therefore clear that in this case the flank 16 and the film 19 have, conversely, in particular packets of the type described in Chapman, contradictory functions: the film 19 aims at ensuring the close cohesion of the group of articles 2 while the flank 16 aims on the contrary to facilitate the movement of the articles 2 relative to each other.

It is also possible to further facilitate the extraction of the articles, when they are containers 2, rows 5, 6, 7 covered by also covering, at least partially, the side wall 13 of the containers 2.

Thus, according to a preferred embodiment illustrated in the figures, the sidewall 16 comprises, on either side of the upper panel 17, two side panels 20 folded against the side walls 13 of the containers 2 and which extend over a part the height of these, for example, as in this case, so as to cover the shoulder 15.

This arrangement further facilitates the extraction of the containers 2 of the second, third and fourth rows 5, 6, 7 by avoiding the formation of depressions in the film 19 at the shoulders 15 between the containers 2 of two adjacent rows.

En outre, comme cela est visible sur les figures 1 à 5 notamment, chaque panneau latéral 20 a une forme sensiblement trapézoïdale, et présente une avancée 21, délimitée par un bord avant 22 oblique et qui, à proximité d'un bord inférieur 23 du panneau latéral 20, vient partiellement recouvrir l'épaule 15 du récipient 2 de la première rangée 4, à la jonction entre l'épaule 15 et le corps 14.Moreover, as is visible on Figures 1 to 5 in particular, each side panel 20 has a substantially trapezoidal shape, and has an advance 21, delimited by an oblique front edge 22 and which, near a lower edge 23 of the side panel 20, partially covers the shoulder 15 of the container 2 of the first row 4, at the junction between the shoulder 15 and the body 14.

In this way, the side panel 20 prevents the formation of a hollow in the film 19 at the shoulders 15 between the containers 2 of the first row 4 and those of the second row 5, which facilitates the extraction of the containers 2 both of them.

In addition, as is also visible on Figures 1 to 5 , the film 19 is provided with a precut 24 which extends between the containers 2 of the first row 4 and those of the second row 5. As can be seen on the figure 1 this precut 24 constitutes a line which, locally, extends along the front edge 18 of the upper panel 17, adjoining it on the side of the front end 3 of the package 1.

This pre-cut 24 is intended to facilitate the opening of the package 1 for the extraction of the containers 2 from the first row 4. The part of the film 19 covering the containers 2 of the first row 4 can be torn off alone, but it will be more easily torn off. by simply pulling on the containers 2, as shown on the figure 4 .

The containers 2 of the following rows 5, 6, 7 (covered by the flank 16) are then extracted by being caught by their neck 11 or even by their shoulder 15, then tilted forwards without forcing, as shown in FIG. figure 5 .

Moreover, as can be seen in particular in figures 1 and 3 the flank 16 has two frangible flaps in the form of a half-moon, each delimited by a cut 26 in a semicircle. A first flap is formed between the second row 5 and the third 6, the second being formed between the third row 6 and the fourth 7. Under the pressure exerted by the fingers of a user (for example the index and the middle finger) , the flaps 25 are retracted inside the package 1 by tilting around a fold line 27 joining the diametrically opposite ends of the cutouts 26, ( figure 3 ), which facilitates the seizure of it, for example for its extraction of a supermarket rack.

The cutouts 26 both have their concavity turned towards the rear, so that even after the flaps 25 have been retracted, they do not form an obstacle to the extraction of the containers 2 from the third row 6 and the fourth row 7. and are simply, under the pressure of the containers 2, pushed forward by tilting around their fold line 27.

Although items 2 of package 1 which has just been described are containers, it could be any other type of articles: cans, beverage cans, glasses, jars, etc.

In addition, the configuration of the package 1 which has just been described (namely four rows 4, 5, 6, 7 of two containers 2 each) corresponds to a conventional configuration that is frequently encountered in supermarket shelves, especially for low capacity bottles (in particular 0.5 liter bottles). However, any other configuration might be appropriate (eg six items grouped in rows of two, or nine articles grouped in rows of three), the minimum requirements being however that the package should include at least two articles, one of which is left uncovered. by the flank and the second covered by it.

On décrit à présent un procédé de fabrication du paquet 1 décrit ci-dessus, en référence aux figures 6 à 9.We now describe a method of manufacturing package 1 described above, with reference to Figures 6 to 9 .

We begin by grouping the containers 2 according to the required configuration (here four rows of two containers each). The flank 16 is then positioned above the containers 2 flat, the upper panel 17 (which is the central panel of the flank 16 flat) coming to cover the vertices 10 of the containers 2 of the second, third and fourth rows 5, 6, 7. The side panels 20 are then folded against the shoulders 15 of the containers 2. Then the whole is wrapped with a plastic film coming from a reel, so that the covering of the film 19 is made on the side of the funds 9 of the containers 2 (cf. figure 9 ). The film 19 is precut along a continuous line parallel to one of its lateral edges, the positioning of the film 19 being such that the precut 24 comes to be placed between the first row 4 and the second 5. The assembly finally transits through a tunnel furnace (not shown) where the film 19 is heat-shrunk to jointly clamp the containers 2 and the flank 16, which is thus firmly held in place.

The method which has just been described can in particular be implemented within a conventional shrinkwrapper (such as the seamless shrinkwrapper proposed by CERMEX under the trade name TS EVOLUTION 3), which would be added a position of flat side feed and, if necessary, a bending station flanks around the containers.
