Other alternatives are available, such as a tube made of telescopic parts, however a flexible tube is most simple to manufacture and can help to reduce the overall height of the suction head 12, which is beneficial for reasons which will become clear below.

  • the third axis R 3 enables the suction nozzle 10 and suction tube 2 to assume a 'low reach' position, in which the suction tube 2 extends substantially flat against the surface to be cleaned, thus allowing cleaning of spaces with limited height, such as underneath a couch, cupboard or the like.
  • the first rotation axis R1 is tilted backward over an angle ⁇ and sideward over an angle ⁇ with respect to a normal N of the sole plate 14. Thanks to these angles ⁇ , ⁇ the suction head 12 and coupling body 15 will rotate relative to each other along a plane S that extends perpendicular to said first rotation axis R1 and includes angles ⁇ , ⁇ with the sole plate 14. Consequently, when rotating the suction head 12 with regard to the coupling body 15, the support means 16 will be lifted with regard to the sole plate 14, to a position in which they extend above said head 12. Hence the suction head can be rotated freely from its broad reach position to its narrow reach position with a single rotating operation.
  • the height over which the support means 16 are lifted during rotation can be increased by increasing the distance (arm A, see Figs. 3A , C ) between the support means 16 and the first rotation axis R1.
  • the support means 16 are preferably positioned closely behind the suction head, which corresponds to a relatively short arm A. It will be appreciated that in such case, the tilting angles ⁇ , ⁇ can be increased to have the support means lifted over sufficient height.
  • the required lifting height may be reduced by minimizing the height of the suction head 12, for instance by using said flexible tube 18 as mentioned before.
  • Such flexible tube 18 moreover offers more freedom with regard to the design and position of the before described second and third rotation axes R2, R3, and is substantially leakage free, so that a high suction power is attainable.
  • one tilt angle ⁇ or ⁇ would be sufficient to achieve the desired lifting effect of the support means 16.
  • the additional advantage can be obtained that the coupling body 15, in the second, narrow reach position, can assume an untitled position, in which the rotation axis of the support means 16 and the second and third rotation axes R2, R3 all extend substantially parallel to the sole plate 4, which contributes to the manoeuvrability and steering properties of the nozzle 10 in narrow reach position.
  • locking means 19 are provided, to lock the suction head 12 in the first and second position.
  • Said locking means comprise in the given embodiment a lever 19, which is rotatably connected to the suction head 12, and is provided with a hooked end 25, which can be hooked into a recessed portion of the first coupling end 20 of the coupling body 15, thereby blocking said parts against relative rotation.

  • the portions 26, 27 may be telescopically interconnected or via some other sliding arrangement, such as guiding slots or the like.
  • Biasing means 28 may be provided to bias the second portion 27 towards the first portion 26, so that the support means 16 are disposed just behind a trailing edge of the suction head 12.
  • This trailing edge is provided with a curved cam 29 which upon rotation of the suction head 12 in the direction of arrow Q contacts a leading edge 27A of the second portion 27, thereby pushing this portion 27 with the support means backwards, against the biasing force, as illustrated in Fig. 4B .
  • the suction head 12 is free to rotate around a first rotation axis R1, extending substantially perpendicular to the sole plate 14, between a broad and narrow reach position, whereby the support means 16 are moved from a first position, shown in continuous lines, to a second position, shown in dashed lines.
  • this embodiment may be of more complex design than the previous embodiment, due to the slideably connected coupling body portions 26, 27, it offers the advantage that the support means 16 can play an active supporting role both in the first and second position. Moreover, good maneuverability is maintained, thanks to the fact that the coupling end 22 and suction tube 2 displace together with the support means 16, and hence the relative orientation of said components remains in tact.
  • the support means 16 may be displaceable in an upward direction, for instance perpendicular to the displacement direction T, as shown in Figs. 5A,B .
  • the support means 16 are rotatably mounted between the legs of a U-shaped bracket 30, which can move up and down in guide slots 32, which may be provided in internal walls of the coupling piece 15".
  • the suction head 12 is provided with a guiding element 29' which slopes downward from the upper surface of the suction head 12 to a position near the floor and is arranged to scoop the support means 16 upon rotation of the suction head 12 in the direction of arrow Q.

Claims (10)

  1. Saugdüse (10) für einen Staubsauger (1), mit:
    - einem Saugkopf (12), der mit einer länglichen Ansaugöffnung (5) versehen ist;
    - einem Verbindungskörper (15), um den Saugkopf (12) mit dem Staubsauger (1) zu verbinden; sowie
    - Stützmitteln (16) zum Stützen des Saugkopfes (12);
    wobei der Saugkopf (12) mit dem Verbindungskörper (15) um eine erste Rotationsachse (R1) drehbar verbunden ist, wodurch der Saugkopf (12) zwischen einer ersten Position, in der sich die längliche Ansaugöffnung (5) im Wesentlichen quer zu einer Verschiebungsrichtung (T) der Düse (10) erstreckt, und einer zweiten Position, in der sich die längliche Ansaugöffnung (5) im Wesentlichen parallel zu der Verschiebungsrichtung (T) erstreckt, gedreht werden kann, und wobei in der ersten Position die Stützmittel (16) hinter einer Hinterkante des Saugkopfes (12) angeordnet sind, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass in der ersten Position des Saugkopfes (12) die Stützmittel (16) in einem Drehbereich angeordnet sind, der von dem Saugkopf (12) während der Drehung von seiner ersten in seine zweite Position in Anspruch genommen wird, wobei die Saugdüse (10) Mittel umfasst, um zu bewirken, dass sich die Stützmittel (16) bei und durch Drehung des Saugkopfes (12) von seiner ersten in seine zweite Position aus dem Drehbereich des Saugkopfes (12) heraus bewegen.
  2. Saugdüse (10) nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Stützmittel (16) mit dem Verbindungskörper (15) gekoppelt sind.
  3. Saugdüse (10) nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass bewirkt wird, dass die Stützmittel (16) bei Drehen des Saugkopfes (12) über den Saugkopf (12) in seine zweite Position gehoben werden.
  4. Saugdüse (10) nach einem der vorangegangenen Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die erste Rotationsachse (R1) gegenüber einer Normalen (N) einer Grundplatte (14) des Saugkopfes (12) geneigt ist.
  5. Saugdüse (10) nach Anspruch 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die erste Rotationsachse (R1), in der Verschiebungsrichtung (T) der Düse (10) betrachtet, in einem Winkel (α) nach hinten geneigt ist.
  6. Saugdüse (10) nach Anspruch 4 oder 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die erste Rotationsachse (R1), in der Verschiebungsrichtung (T) der Düse (10) betrachtet, in einem Winkel (β) seitwärts geneigt ist.
  7. Saugdüse (10) nach einem der vorangegangenen Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass Arretiermittel (19) vorgesehen sind, um den Saugkopf (12) in seiner ersten und zweiten Position zu arretieren, wobei die Arretiermittel (19) vorzugsweise so ausgebildet sind, dass sie von einem Benutzer arretiert und entsperrt werden können.
  8. Saugdüse (10) nach einem der vorangegangenen Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Saugkopf (12) in seiner ersten Position gegenüber dem Verbindungskörper (15) um eine zweite Achse (R2, R3), die sich im Wesentlichen parallel zu der Ansaugöffnung (5) erstreckt, drehbar ist.
  9. Saugdüse (10) nach einem der vorangegangenen Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Verbindungskörper (15) ein flexibles Verbindungsrohr (18) umfasst, um die Ansaugöffnung (5) mit dem Staubsauger (1) zu verbinden.
  10. Staubsauger (1) mit einer Saugdüse (10), dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Saugdüse (10) eine Saugdüse nach einem der vorangegangenen Ansprüche ist.
