Paletten, insbesondere Europool-Paletten (umgangssprachlich auch Euro-Paletten genannt) werden in umfangreicher Weise für den Transport diverser Waren verwendet. Während Holz-Euro-Paletten weit verbreitet sind, werden zunehmend häufiger auch Kunststoffpaletten eingesetzt. Der Vorteil von Kunststoffpaletten ist, dass sie deutlich unempfindlicher gegen Beschädigungen und leichter zu reinigen sind und eine sehr lange Lebensdauer aufweisen. Auch weisen sie eine deutlich bessere Beständigkeit gegen Umwelteinflüsse, wie beispielsweise Feuchtigkeit auf. In Holzpaletten können sich Keime oder Pilze festsetzen, was insbesondere beim Kontakt mit Lebensmitteln unzulässig ist. Ein Nachteil von Kunststoffpaletten gegenüber Holzpaletten ist, dass sie schlechtere Reibwerte aufweisen und so Waren, die auf der Palette gestapelt sind, leichter verrutschen können. Produktionstechnisch wird in dem Mehrkomponentenspritzgusswerkzeug ein beweglicher Stempel vorgesehen, welcher sich zuerst in einer inneren Stellung befindet, so dass beim Einspritzen des ersten Kunststoffs die Basispalette hergestellt wird. In einem nachfolgenden Schritt wird der bewegliche Stempel um einen definierten Bereich nach außen versetzt, so dass zwischen der Basispalette und dem verschobenen Kern ein Hohlraum entsteht, in welchen der zweite Kunststoff eingespritzt wird. Der zweite Kunststoff ist das Material aus welchem die gleithemmende Schicht gebildet wird. Dabei wird zwischen der Basispalette und der gleithemmenden Schicht eine stoffschlüssige Verbindung erreicht. Dies bedeutet, dass vorzugsweise durch eine Art Anschmelzen eines Bereichs der Basispalette die gleithemmende Schicht untrennbar mit der Basispalette verbunden ist.
Die Größe des verschiebbaren Stempels entspricht der gesamten Palettenfläche, insbesondere der Beladefläche.
