Description

DEVICE FOR RECEIVING DIGITAL TRANSMISSION PROTOCOL SIGNALS, PARTICULARLY FOR LIGHTING APPARATUSES Technical Field
The present invention relates to a device for receiving digital transmission protocol signals, particularly for lighting apparatuses.
More particularly, the invention relates to a receiver which can be connected to an apparatus, for example a luminaire, in order to receive digital transmission protocol signals in order to control said apparatus. Background Art As it is known, for example in the field of luminaires, used in squares, stadiums, public spaces and the like, it is important is to be able to control the luminaires remotely, for example in order to obtain particular light effects according to the user's requirements.
Currently, these commands are given to the apparatuses by means of a transceiver capable of sending a signal according to a specific digital transmission protocol, for example the DMX512 protocol, which drives the required apparatus.
Usually, the transceiver is composed of a transmitter, which is located in the vicinity of the user and is set and programmed by the user, and by a receiver, which is instead located in the vicinity of the apparatus to be driven.
However, the link between the receiver and the transmitter is provided by means of a cable, and this accordingly entails the needs to lay cables in order to connect the receiver to the apparatus that must receive the signal according to the specific transmission protocol.
This solution, therefore, has the drawback that it is necessary to perform an actual proper installation so that the apparatus, for example the luminaire, can be controlled remotely by sending signals according to the specific transmission protocol. Disclosure of the Invention
The aim of the present invention is to provide a device for receiving signals according to a specific digital transmission protocol which does not require wiring for connection to the apparatus to be driven. Another object of the present invention is to provide a receiver which can be installed without having to resort to technicians in the field.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a receiver which is extremely compact, thus avoiding the addition of bulk to the apparatus to be driven. Another object of the present invention is to provide a receiver which is highly reliable, relatively simple to provide, and at competitive costs.
This aim and these and other objects, which will become better apparent hereinafter, are achieved by a device for receiving digital transmission signals, particularly for lighting apparatuses, characterized in that it comprises a body suitable to contain an electronic receiver circuit, said body being provided, at one end, with a connector which is suitable to be connected directly to a complementary socket provided in said apparatus to be controlled, said body being provided with an antenna at its other end.
Brief description of the Drawings Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become better apparent from the following detailed description of a preferred but not exclusive embodiment of the device according to the present invention, illustrated by way of non-limiting example in the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the receiver according to the present invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of an apparatus to be driven by means of signals sent with a specific protocol.
In the exemplary embodiments that follow, individual characteristics, given in relation to specific examples, may actually be interchanged with other different characteristics that exist in other exemplary embodiments.
Moreover, it is noted that anything found to be already known during the patenting process is understood not to be claimed and to be the subject of a disclaimer. Ways of carrying out the Invention
With reference to the figures, a receiver according to the present invention, generally designated by the reference numeral 1, comprises a body 2 provided, at one end, with a connector 3 of the standardized type, for example of the three- or five-pole type, which is suitable to be inserted in an appropriately provided socket formed at an apparatus 4 to be driven.
In Figure 2, the socket is designated by the reference numeral 5.
The body 2 of the receiver comprises internally an electronic circuit 6 designed to receive a signal sent by means of a digital transmission protocol, for example a signal of the DMX512 type. The body 2 is further provided, at the end that lies opposite the one in which the connector 3 is arranged, with an orientable antenna 7, which allows the receiver to receive signals sent by an associated transmitter.
Accordingly, the receiver 1 according to the present invention can be connected directly to the apparatus 4 to be driven, thus allowing to eliminate wiring, which is expensive as regards installation time and is in any case inconvenient, since the presence of cables is always an unwanted bulk, especially in environments where a large number of cables is necessarily already present.
Substantially, the device according to the present invention allows even a user who is not necessarily an expert to connect the receiver directly to the apparatus to be driven and therefore to drive the apparatus by using a transmitter, located remotely with respect to the apparatus 4, all this being done wirelessly.
The previously mentioned protocol, i.e., the DMX512 protocol, is of course merely an example of a plurality of possible protocols which can be used to send digital signals from a transmitter to a receiver according to the invention which is connected directly to the apparatus to be driven.
The receiver according to the invention has a low cost and is extremely compact yet provides high operating efficiency. In practice it has been found that the receiver according to the present invention fully achieves the intended aim and objects, since it can be connected directly to an apparatus to be driven by the signal received by the receiver.
The various means for performing certain different functions need not certainly coexist only in the illustrated embodiment but can be present per se in many embodiments, including ones that are not illustrated.
The device thus conceived is susceptible of numerous modifications and variations, all of which are within the scope of the appended claims; all the details may further be replaced with other technically equivalent elements.
In practice, the materials used, as well as the contingent shapes and dimensions, may be any according to requirements and to the state of the art.
The disclosures in Italian Patent Application No. TV2005A000079 from which this application claims priority are incorporated herein by reference.
