Description

The present invention relates generally to grouping apparatus for processing single sheets or stacks of multiple sheets, and more particularly to a multi-grouping apparatus for processing a high-speed sequence of single sheets or stacks of multiple sheets.

Such grouping or collating devices are most commonly used in paper processing lines where they pick and place cut single sheets of paper or multi-sheet stacks. In order to increase the throughput, they can also be present in versions as Mehrfachgruppiervorrichtung. Such devices are used where, for example, brochures, books, documents from several single sheets are to be assembled. It should also take into account the different formats, i. the intention is to be able to use the same machine even with different paper sizes, if possible without the need for manual conversion, adjustment or adjustment, which would slow and increase the cost of the processing process. To ensure that facilities of this size can operate economically, the most automated operation possible must be guaranteed. Such a high-speed automatic processing line is a composite of a plurality of individual devices that operate independently in a particular section of the processing line and include: continuous paper web printing devices, longitudinal and transverse cutting devices, collating machines, folding machines, gluing or binding units, etc.

For a safe operation at such high throughputs, it is necessary to expose the paper sheets as little as possible force and gently transport them. This can be achieved by picking up the sheets from means of transport carrying the papers. Further, it is necessary to supply the sheets to various processing paths, which requires an allocation device. For such a device to work independently, a control is needed that "knows" when it has reached which leaf. This association is a feature of multi-grouping devices because simple grouping devices do not distinguish processing paths. However, a Mehrfachgruppiervorrichtung can easily be operated as Einfachgruppiervorrichtung by this allocation device (switch) the leaves of a group steers in the same direction.

The leaves that have been directed to a particular processing path are collated with each other, i. fed to the same stack and ordered. Various mechanisms have been tried in the past for this control of the stack layer.

In the prior art devices, it is not satisfactory that the loose sheets are deflected either by a mechanical force, which can lead to jamming and interruption of processing, or the lowering of the sheet is left to gravity, which also processing slowed down.

So for example describes EP 0 455 494 a Kollationiermaschine with two separate conveyor paths and stacking areas. In each stacking area, the sheets pass between fixed upper and lower guide blocks. For details will be on the U.S. Patent 4,805,891 reference is made in detail how the collation by lifting or lowering the stack, that is accomplished by mechanical means.

The patent GB 1 274 322 discloses an apparatus in which the sheets are fed to different containers into which they are subsequently dropped (gravity). A reversal of the stacking direction is not provided here.

Therefore, it is a first object of the invention to provide a device in which the paper sheets are guided under control without exposing them to excessive force. According to the invention, this object is achieved while avoiding the disadvantages of the prior art with a first embodiment of the invention according to claim 1, by the collected leaves are leaked by means of a controlled air jet in the desired stacking position. In this way, the sheets do not come into contact with any parts of the device and thus do not run the risk of creasing and / or jamming.

Experiments by the applicant have shown that it makes sense to record the leaves after the cross-separation in a first part of the device and the grouper controlled and free from smearing. This first part of the device is called the transfer area, UB for short. In this area guide means are provided, which are not movable and only serve the reliable transfer of loose leaves. In order to ensure a secure picking up of the leaves for further processing, it is necessary to divert the means of transport at different locations in order to accommodate the different longitudinal formats. For this purpose, a deflection unit is provided, which is displaceable in the working direction of the device. This deflection unit forms the beginning of the subsequent area, the conveying area, briefly FB, which is characterized by the presence of means of transport. Likewise, it is necessary to reproduce the displacement in the subsequent device part, the so-called grouping part, by providing a corresponding further deflection unit on each grouping table.

A second object of the invention is so with, a offer, with which both sheets of different weights and formats as well as desired group sizes can be processed. This requires adjustments or settings of the device, which can be made easily and quickly, possibly without the use of operating personnel.

Bevorzugte Ausführungsformen sind Gegenstand der Ansprüche 2 -10.These objects are achieved according to the invention with a device according to claim 1. Preferred embodiments are subject matter of claims 2-10.

The present invention thus provides a device for grouping sheets or collation, being composed of two parts: a transfer table and one or more grouping tables. For a simple grouper, there is only one grouping table; However, the embodiment is preferred as Mehrfachgruppiervorrichtung with two Gruppiertischen.

Coming from the cross-cutting device, the individual sheets are gradually transferred to means of transport, preferably movable endless belts. The location of this transfer depends on the length of the leaves. To set this length, the funding must be moved with which the means of transport are moved. Along the entire length of the transfer table are the leaves, which are covered by a stationary, static guide means. As a static guide means according to the invention bands are preferred, which are provided in pairs and pretend the path of the leaves in the system. The inventive device has at the transfer table via two symmetrically arranged transport devices, the sheets are received on the axis of symmetry between the same running transport. The length of the transport and guide means do not change during longitudinal adjustment of the deflection unit. The longitudinal adjustment of the transfer area is carried out via a displacement of the deflection unit. Depending on how much the deflection unit is moved in the direction of the transfer table end, the longer format can be taken up and the delivery area shortened. It is extremely important that both means of transport run synchronously and are exactly the same length, that means they are in the same position. To ensure this, the deflecting means are arranged together in a movable or displaceable deflection unit for both symmetrical means of transport. In this way, changes in length of the means of transport of the transfer table can be performed only at both transport means at the same time.

Thereafter leaves leave the transfer table and arrive - in the embodiment as a double grouper - to a switch, which assigns the desired number of sheets to the respective grouping table. When the specific number of leaves has reached one grouping table, the switch tilts to the other side and serves the other grouping table. It is understood that the counting of the leaves and the tilting of the switch are actions that require control. This control includes feeding the sheets, counting the desired number of sheets and tilting the switch after passing the desired number of sheets. However, such control devices are known to those skilled in the art and need not be further explained here.

The sheets thus assigned are subsequently recorded on the respective grouping table by associated means of transport. Thereafter, the leaves are also taken up by the guide means, which are preferably formed by upright bands. The length of this conveying area is determined by the format length.

Investigations by the applicant showed that the problem of the required variable storage area for the leaves is most easily and inexpensively solved by means of tapes. As with the transfer table, it has on a movable deflection pulleys, which are preferred deflection means that can be moved together with the stationary belts. The length adjustment also takes place here via movable pulleys, with which different tape lengths can be absorbed by a rear loop. Over the entire length of this conveying area, the sheets deposited thereon are moved by means of the transporting means in the direction of the deflection unit with the deflection rollers. Once there, the leaves reach an area where they are deposited on or under the pile, depending on the desired classification. Therefore, this area is also called the stack area, in short SB. By means of air jet in each case the rear edge of the stack is raised or lowered, so that in the desired position, the next sheet can be inserted. The leaves remain in the stack area until all leaves in the group are arranged. The leaves leave the device in the correct order by the advance of extraction conveyors. The standing belts are deflected upwards and downwards in the area of the air jet (the so-called blowing bar) in order not to disturb the classification in the stacking area. After leaving the bellows, the, now ordered, leaves are again placed on the standing bands, where they can then be detected by the withdrawal conveyor. Further processing of the ordered Leaf groups is not the subject of this invention.

When talking about standing bands, it always means two bands that form a guide for the leaves at a certain distance.

If the diverter unit with the diverting pulleys has been moved rearward for format reasons at the transfer table, this must be reflected in the grouping tables in a corresponding adjustment. However, this manifests itself here in that the deflection unit is moved forward, ie to the entrance.

The role groups of the diversion units are partially coupled with each other and must therefore always be in the same position during operation. The two larger rollers of a deflection unit cause the blades to advance into the blast beams with the air nozzles. The two smaller wheels serve only to divert the means of transport.

After the sheets have been arranged in the stacking area by the blast beam, the entire group is conveyed to the output, where it is detected by the discharge conveyor and transported out. The control device ensures that the loading of the leaves of a related group is not interrupted by the leaves intended for the other grouping table. The feed to the other table takes place only after the leading edge of the last sheet has passed the switch. The deflection units of the grouping tables is no longer about the inclusion of a certain length of the means of transport, but about the adaptation of the means of transport to certain format sizes.

The continuous feed is perceived by the interaction of the conveying means, which are located at the edges of the transfer table or active grouping table.

Due to the parallel arrangement of the two group tables can be switched to save time during the processing process on the other, if one is occupied. This implies that the switch "knows" when the last document has passed a row to be ordered and has to switch over. At the place where the first document of such a series is to go into the blast bar, the standing tape is rejected on a shaft and the document resp. the documents are released. The task of the standing tape is now fulfilled and it goes to the side, so it does not hinder the further processing. Inside the bellows, the documents of a series are sorted in the manner described above. The finished stack is now detected by the discharge conveyor, wherein the stationary belt is returned over another wave and the stack is passed to the discharge conveyor. Thereafter, the finished stack of two stacking areas are removed in a plane. The following processing steps may be, for example, folding, gluing or stapling the loose sheets. However, these further steps are well known to those skilled in the art and they do not require further explanation. They are not the subject of this invention.

The main advantages of the device according to the invention are: the limitation of the movement of the paper sections by the stationary belts, the easy adjustability and adjustment of the standing belts to the requirements of smudge-free grouping and the air control of the stacking position of the documents. A device equipped with these features is able to quickly arrange documents of any format in a simple manner without entailing too much stress on the documents.

In the following, a preferred embodiment of the invention based on FIGS. 1a and 1b will be explained in detail.

Fig. 1a and Fig. 1b both show the inventive device 1 in the side view. While in Fig. 1a standing bands 115, 125, 135 (and their counterparts 116, 126, 136) are highlighted by guide means 11, 12, 13, they are in Fig. 1b Transport means 10, 15 and 16 with movable belts 101, 102; 151, 152; 161, 162. The sheets to be sorted of a series enter the guide means 11 in the transfer area UB of a device 1. They lie between the upright belts 115 and 116 (guide means 11) and are moved by the movable belts 101 and 102 of the transport means 10. Depending on the format length, a movable deflection unit 110 is moved. The deflection unit 110 comprises in each case a first deflection roller 111 or 112 and a second deflection roller 113 or 114 for the transport means 10 with the upper and the lower movable belt, 101 and 102, respectively. Both movable belts 101 and 102 of the transport means 10 are mirror images of the level of the guide means 11 with the upstanding bands 115, 116 are arranged. The upper movable belt 101 of the transport means 10 is clamped as an endless loop between traction conveyors 106 and 107, a push conveyor 103 and the deflection rollers 111 and 113, respectively. Similarly, the lower movable belt 102 of the transport means 10 to Zugfördermittel 108 and 109, a push conveyor 104 and the pulleys 112 and 114, respectively. By shifting the deflection unit 110, the required format lengths can be set.

Thereafter, the sheets of a series are transferred to a grouping device in the form of a grouping table 18 and 19, respectively. The assignment to the selected grouping table is carried out by a switch 105, which remains in the appropriate position until all sheets of a series have been handed over. Subsequently, additional sheets can be taken from the transfer table, which belong to the next series. For this purpose, the switch 105 takes a different position. Via guide plates 118 and 119, the leaves of a series reach either the upper grouping table 18 or the lower grouping table 19. Once there, the sheets reach between the vertical bands 125 and 126 or 135 and 136 of the guide means 12 and 13 of the respective grouping tables. Movable belts 151 and 152 or 161 and 162 of the transporting means 15 and 16, which are arranged analogously to the transfer table in endless loops, are likewise used for moving the sheets thus picked up. In both grouping tables 18 and 19, the movable belts 151 and 152 or 161 and 162 of the transport means 15 and 16 are arranged in mirror image and between train conveyors 155 and 158 and 165 and 168, push conveyors 153, 154 and 156, 157 and 163rd , 164 and 166, 167. In order to be able to adapt to the setting of the transfer table, 18 and 19 are displaceable deflecting units in both grouping tables 120 or 130, so that when the transfer table 110 has been moved near the diverter 105 toward the transfer table, the deflection of the grouping tables 120 or 130 is also closer to the switch 105 to push. This is just the great advantage of the guide means 11, 12, 13 with the upstanding bands 115, 116; 125, 126; 135, 136 which make adjustments to different formats easy and without major expenditures.

The deflection units 120 and 130 of the grouping tables are constructed identically. They include pulleys 121, 122, 123 and 124 or 131, 132, 133 and 134 for the transport means 15, 16 with the movable belts 151, 152 and 161 and 162 as well as those for the guide means 12, 13 with the upright belts 125, 126 and 135 and 136, respectively. The standing bands 125 and 126 or 135 and 136, which were otherwise always arranged adjacent to each other, here diverge in the area of the deflection unit 120, 130 in order to make room for the grouping of the leaves: on a deflection roller 181, the upper standing band 125 of the upper grouping table 18 is stretched upwards to a deflection roller 183, to subsequently return to a deflection roller 185 and extend to the output side boundary of a pair of extraction conveyors 141, 142. The lower stationary belt 126 is deflected downwards in a deflection roller 182, reverses again in the case of a deflection roller 184 and hits the upper stationary belt 125 again in the case of a deflection roller 186. The upper stationary belt 135 in the lower grouping table 19 travels with a deflection roller 191 Above, turns at a pulley 193 back down a pulley 195 and the lower stationary belt 136 to. The lower standing belt 136 turns down at a pulley 192 and reverses its direction at a pulley 194 to return at a pulley 196 to the upper standing belt 135 and together with this to the output side boundary of a pair of discharge conveyors 143, 144th to extend.

In each case between the vertical belts 125 and 126 or 135 and 136 are located in the region of the deflection 120 and 130 devices 127 and 137 for deflecting loose leaves, wherein the subsequent sheet resp. Leaves can be pushed over or under resp. can. This is achieved by means of nozzles that allow air to flow onto the stack so that the stack is deflected in the desired direction. The nozzles are in so-called. Blasbalken 128 and 129 or 138 and 139. Auf this way, the leaves of a series are arranged. The ordered stack is then transferred via the discharge conveyors 141 and 142 or 143 and 144 in the direction of an output 145, in which the stacks are issued in the same plane.

The principle of deflection of the leaves can be determined by the Fig. 2 in which a deflection unit 20 is shown larger in the stacking area, will be explained better. The deflection unit 20, which can be displaced in the horizontal direction, contains a deflection region 260, which is also called a blast beam. This has two stacking plates 263 and 264 provided with nozzles 265, 266 through which an associated blower 261 and 262, respectively, can convey air and thus locally exert a gentle force on a sheet 202, or a stack of sheets, the / is partly already on the output side between stationary belts 251 and 252 and after a pair of pulleys 258 and 259. At the moment of the deflection of the sheet 202, a subsequent sheet 201 is inserted, whereby a stacking of the sheets is achieved. The resulting stacking order depends on which direction was blown in the specific case. The stacking plates 263 and 263 are sized so that one of the leaves of a series can be picked up. What is very clear in this illustration is the fact that the blades in the blast beam 260 are not moved by any conveyor centers, but wait for the filling of a stacking plate 263 or 264 to be mentioned first, then take-off conveyors (not shown) commence operation and remove the ordered stacks.

The blades are brought into the blast beam 260 by mobile transport means 211 and 212. These are guided around deflection rollers 21 and 23 or 22 and 24 and leave the blowing bar 260 before the leaves come into the region of the stacking plates 263 and 264. The standing belts 251 and 252 are already guided around deflection rollers 256 and 257, reversed their course direction at the location of the greatest distance from each other, at deflection rollers 253 and 254, and return at the end of the stacking plates 263 and 264 back to before the pulleys 258th and to get together again.

Fig. 3 shows the division of the inventive device in a transfer area 301 which extends from the sheet holder to a deflection unit 310 of a transfer table 311, a stacking area 303, which denotes the area between deflection units 320, 330 of grouping tables 313 and a conveying area 302, which between the Deflection unit 310 of the transfer table 311 and the deflection units 320, 330 of the grouping tables 313 is located. It should be noted that all means of transport 30, 35, 36 are found exclusively in conveying area 302. In the conveying area, a switch 312 is additionally arranged, which connects the transfer table 311 with the grouping table / grouping tables 313.

The control of the feed of the sheets by means of the movable transport means and the conveying means, the control of the switch and the discharge of the sorted stacks are known to persons skilled in the field of paper collation and need not be further elaborated here. The means for feeding the sheets are designed for stepwise operation. Likewise, the means for transporting the sheets are arranged for both the transfer table and the grouping tables for gradual operation. For a smooth operation of all these partial movements, a central control unit is required, which interacts with various distributed over the entire system sensors and actuators. The sequence of the individual actions is determined in programs for the control unit, which are to be selected according to the desired operating mode, the group size to be classified, the sheet format, the initial arrangement of the sheets and others. Only the adjustment of the deflecting units at the transfer table and the grouping tables must be carried out by qualified personnel.

It is obvious that many modifications and modifications are possible within the meaning of the invention without departing from the scope of the claims.
