Definitions

  • Cosmetic and dermatological preparations containing transparent surface-coated titanium dioxide particles containing transparent surface-coated titanium dioxide particles
  • the present invention relates to cosmetic and dermatological preparations for the protection of human skin and hair against UV radiation, comprising in the visible range transparent surface-coated titanium dioxide particles having a crystal size of 10 to 20 nm and a specific surface area of 90 to 110 m 2 / g characterized in that the surface coating of the titanium dioxide particles comprises a multiple coating of a) alumina and b) methicone or a copolymer of methicone and dimethicone or a multiple coating of a) alumina, b) methicone or a copolymer of methicone and dimethicone and c) silica.
  • Metal oxides such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide are widely used in sunscreens. Their effect is based essentially on reflection, scattering and absorption of harmful UV radiation and depends essentially on the primary particle size of the metal oxides.
  • Microfine titanium dioxide is widely used in cosmetic formulations since it is chemically stable and toxicologically harmless and does not cause any skin irritation or sensitization. It is currently the most commonly used and most important mineral sunscreen.
  • metal oxides such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide
  • photocatalytic activity which triggers reactions that can lead to the formation of reactive species (e.g., hydroxyl radicals).
  • the prior art attempts to reduce the photocatalytic activity of these metal oxides without reducing the UV screening properties, for example, by surrounding them with a shell of inorganic and / or organic surface components.
  • These surface components may include Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 and / or siloxanes.
  • EP-A-0 988 853 describes metal oxide particles coated with silicon dioxide, and their preparation and use as a constituent in sunscreens.
  • the disadvantage here is that these coated metal oxide particles have a low surface functionality and a high degree of adhesion of the particles. This makes it difficult on the one hand, the incorporation of the particles in a cosmetic formulation, on the other hand, their stability is limited with respect to sedimentation.
  • EP 0 869 762 B1 describes silicone polymer-coated hydrophobicized metal oxides and their use as sunscreens in cosmetic products.
  • EP 1 284 277 A1 describes silica-coated metal oxide particles having a low structure and sunscreens prepared therewith.
  • Titanium dioxide nanoparticles with particle sizes below about 30 nm are potentially suitable for use as UV absorbers in cosmetic and dermatological preparations.
  • Titanium dioxide nanoparticles with particle sizes below about 5 nm show a blue shift of the absorption edge due to the size quantization effect (L. Brus, J. Phys. Chem. (1986), 90, 2555-2560) and are therefore suitable for use as UV absorbers in UV radiation. A range less suitable.
  • agglomerates are undesirable in cosmetic transparent formulations because they are often already recognizable as particles on the skin with the naked eye, reduce the transparency and the UV protection of a sunscreen and settle on storage. Agglomerates can also lead to instability of the formulation.
  • the object of the present invention to provide cosmetic and dermatological sunscreen preparations which contain titanium dioxide particles with which the disadvantages of the prior art can be eliminated.
  • the titanium dioxide particles should have a low photocatalytic activity and a low scattering behavior.
  • the titanium dioxide particles in the transparent area and can be incorporated well into cosmetic dispersions. An irreversible aggregation of the particles should be avoided if possible, so that a complex dispersion process can be avoided.
  • methicone and dimethicone stands for methyl hydrogen polysiloxane or dimethyl polysiloxane.

  • the thickness of the multiple coating of alumina, silica and methicone or the copolymer of methicone and diemethicone can be between 0.5 and 3 nm can be varied. In this range, the particles show sufficiently high UV absorption, reflection and scattering.
