Ce procédé consiste à former au moins une pièce de tricotage (2) au moyen d'un premier groupe d'aiguilles disposées dans un premier secteur (A) d'une première fonture (1), et à former au moins une seconde pièce de tricotage (3) au moyen d'un second groupe d'aiguilles, disposées dans un second secteur (B) de la première fonture (1) qui est espacée, en formant un angle, du premier secteur (A) autour de l'axe (1a) du premier lit (1), à transférer au moins une rangée de tricotage de la première pièce de tricotage (2) et au moins une rangée de tricotage de la seconde partie de tricotage (3) à au moins une partie des aiguilles d'un groupe d'aiguilles d'assemblage disposées dans un second secteur (C) de la première fonture (1), à l'aide de moyens d'engagement prévus dans la seconde fonture (4) et d'un décalage angulaire de la seconde fonture (4) par rapport à la première (1) autour de son axe (1a). Les aiguilles d'assemblage (11, 12, 13) engagées dans les rangées transférées de tricotage de la première pièce de tricotage (2) et de la seconde pièce de tricotage (3), sont ensuite actionnées de manière qu'au moins une rangée de tricotage pour assembler les deux pièces de tricotage avant leur retrait de l'article tricoté soit produite.
