Definitions

  • the technical sector of the present invention is that of weapons of medium and large caliber, and more particularly percussion devices of the munition disposed in such a weapon.
  • the equipment of military vehicles requiring the use of integrated weapon in turret increasingly imposes the use of fire control capable of guaranteeing, at any moment, the control in the space of the position of the tube of the weapon, whether the carrier is at rest or moving.
  • This constraint of guaranteeing the firing of a weapon on a turret with a moving carrier, while maintaining a good probability of reaching the target, requires controlling both the position of the tube in space as a function of time and the moment of release of the projectile.
  • the percussion of the ammunition implements a cam whose geometry allows in a first time the compression of a spring means and in a second time the release of the firing pin.
  • the DE-644764 describes a percussion device for a medium or large-caliber weapon comprising a striker D actuated by a spring E and a cam F for driving the firing pin allowing it to move in translation from its rest position to an armed position by causing the compression of the spring E.
  • a finger G (acting as trigger) subjected to the action of a spring H cooperates with a flange of the striker D to block it in the armed position.
  • a crank N having a handle P makes it possible to arm the striker D.
  • the finger G is erased using the axis J. It is a quite conventional system which operates manually, in which the striker is previously armed. using the crank N and then release it with the other hand crank J.
  • the U.S. Patent No. 4,877,927 discloses a small-caliber percussion device comprising a striker subjected to the action of a spring, a striker driving means allowing its movement in translation to an armed position and thus the compression of the spring.
  • the release of the striker is provided by the conventional trigger system, blocking the striker in the armed position, and trigger activated by the shooter.
  • a major disadvantage of these devices lies in the fact that the response time between the compression of the spring means and the exit of the projectile at the mouth of the tube is necessarily greater than a few tenths of a second. This cycle time is incompatible with a moving shot that requires a time of the order of a few hundredths of a second between the validation by the computer and the actual percussion of the ammunition.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide an electromechanical device to remedy these problems.
  • the subject of the invention is therefore a caliber percussion device comprising a striker, a spring means and a striker drive cam enabling it to move in translation to an armed position and the compression of the spring means, a means for blocking the striker in the armed position, this means being supported by the breech of the weapon and capable of ensuring a locking position of the striker and a firing pin release position, such as it comprises a calculator and position sensors to know the position of the cam and that the cam is moved about its starting position to define at least one recess zone followed by a percussion zone in which the striker is released by the blocking means.
  • the means for locking the striker in the "armed" position is a trigger that can be moved by an actuator in order to release the striker.
  • the percussion device comprises a pusher exerting a force on the trigger, in a direction substantially opposite to that of the actuator.
  • the trigger comprises a striker locking face substantially orthogonal to the axis of movement of the striker, ensuring the locking of the striker in the "armed" position and a bearing surface of the striker.
  • actuator substantially orthogonal to the locking face of the striker and the axis of movement of the actuator, the bearing face being subjected to the action of the actuator.
  • the trigger is in the form of an "L” of which a first branch, arranged orthogonally to the striker, ensures the locking of the striker in "armed” position and a second branch, substantially perpendicular to the first and the actuator, is subjected to the action of the actuator.
  • the trigger is supported by a pin axis orthogonal to the locking face of the striker.
  • the trigger comprises a beveled face on which the firing pin comes to rest when it is placed in the "armed” position and making it possible to transform the firing force of the striker on the beveled face pivoting the trigger around its pivot.
  • the invention also relates to a method of firing an ammunition using a percussion device according to the invention, in which is triggered, by means of a first set of "firing cycle", the rotation of the cam in order to drive the striker in translation to its "armed” position and to compress a spring means, the actuator blocking the striker is triggered by means of a second "percussion” instruction, the movement of the locking means by the actuator in order to release the striker which, under the action of the spring means, moves in translation and collides with the munition, thus realizing its firing characterized in that the position of the cam is detected by means of position sensors and in that the computer outputs the "percussion" command only when the cam is detected in the percussion area.
  • the driving of the firing pin in the "armed" position and the compression of the spring means are carried out simultaneously with the setting of the ammunition.
  • a first advantage of the device according to the invention lies in reducing the time between the firing instruction and the firing of the ammunition.
  • Another advantage lies in the ability to adapt the device to any type of medium or large caliber weapon.
  • Another advantage lies in the fact that the elements constituting the device according to the invention can be controlled manually, which allows the operation of the device even in the event of failure or destruction of the energy source of the vehicle.
  • Another advantage lies in the fact that a device according to the invention integrated into a weapon with advanced fire control prohibits any "out-of-area” firing because only the appearance of the percussion instruction linked to the coincidence between the score of the weapon and direction of sighting allows the ammunition to be fired.
  • FIGS. 1 and 2 are respectively front and rear perspective views illustrating an exemplary embodiment of the percussion device according to the invention, when placed in "armed" position.
  • FIG. 1 For the sake of clarity, only the elements necessary for the understanding of the invention have been represented. Some elements, such as the drive means of the cam, the ammunition or the breech of the weapon, are not shown but are already well known to those skilled in the art and therefore do not require any particular description or representation.
  • the percussion device thus shown is a percussion device for a medium or large-caliber weapon comprising a cam 1, a cocking lever 2, a striker 4, a spring means 5, a trigger 8, an actuator 6 and a pusher 10
  • This device is disposed in a known manner in the breech of the weapon that it equips.
  • the cam 1 is made in known manner. It is driven by a rotational movement of axis of rotation Z and has a rolling side surface 12 (which will be described more particularly later) cooperating with the cocking lever 2 in order to drive it in rotation.
  • the cocking lever 2 comprises a rotation shaft 33 whose ends 23 and 24 are supported by bores of the yoke in order to make a pivot connection therewith.
  • the cocking lever 2 also comprises an axis 22, eccentric relative to the shaft 33, about which pivots a roller 11 intended to cooperate with the rolling surface 12 of the cam 1.
  • the cocking lever finally comprises a groove 21 ( figure 2 ) intended to cooperate with the striker 4.
  • the firing pin 4 is of substantially cylindrical shape, of axis X. It comprises at one end a striking rod 14 intended to ensure the percussion of the ammunition, and at the other end a stop 18 allowing the compression of the spring 5 during the movement of the striker. It also comprises a drive finger 3 cooperating with the groove 21 of the cocking lever 2 and a locking pin 13 intended to cooperate with the trigger 8.
  • the striker 4 is arranged in a sleeve (not shown) ensuring its maintenance and allowing movement in translation along the axis X.
  • the drive finger 3 moves in the groove 21 and transmits only to the striker 4 the component along the axis X of the movement of the cocking lever 2, thus transforming the rotation of the lever 2 in translation of the striker 4.
  • the spring 5 is disposed along the axis X of the striker 4, between the stop 18 of the firing pin and a spring support (not shown) integral with the yoke.
  • Trigger 8 (which is particularly illustrated by the figure 3 ) is substantially in the form of a polyhedron. It comprises a striker blocking face (visible on the figure 2 ), substantially orthogonal to the axis X of the firing pin 4, and a bearing face 17 of the actuator substantially orthogonal to the locking face of the firing pin.
  • the trigger 8 is connected to the cylinder head by means of an axle 32 forming a pivot connection between the trigger 8 and the cylinder head.
  • the axis 32 is substantially parallel to the axis X of movement of the striker 4.
  • the trigger 8 also comprises a bevelled face 30 arranged to make an angle of substantially 45 ° with the axis X of the striker 4, making it possible to transform a force along the axis X into an orthogonal force and thereby perform the rotation of the trigger 8 about its axis 32.
  • the actuator 6 is conventionally in the form of a motor body (for example an electric or pneumatic cylinder) provided with a rod 7 capable of moving in translation and of transmitting a force to the trigger 8.
  • the rod 7 is resting on the support surface 17 of the trigger and makes it possible to apply a force to the trigger 8 so as to rotate it about its axis 32.
  • an electromagnet will be used as actuator 6, the coil of this electromagnet for moving a core on which the rod 7 of the actuator is secured.
  • the pusher 10 is arranged in opposition to the actuator 6. It is subjected to the action of a spring 9 and maintains permanently on the trigger 8 a directional force opposite to the force of the rod 7.
  • the figure 4 represents the cam 1 animated by a rotational movement of axis of rotation Z and direction F, by a motor means (not shown).
  • the cam 1 is already known and its geometry is defined by the weapon in which the invention is integrated.
  • the cam 1 has a rolling side surface 12 of the roller 11 on which different zones are provided; a so-called “bottom dead center” zone of constant radius R1; a so-called “spring compression” zone 26 whose distance with the Z axis increases along F; a so-called “top dead center” zone 27 of constant radius R2 greater than R1; a recess zone followed by a so-called "percussion” zone 28 and a so-called “firing pin withdrawal” zone 29.
  • the cam 1 is integrated into the kinematics of the weapon system and describes one revolution per weapon cycle.
  • the figure 3 represents an embodiment of the trigger 8.
  • the trigger 8 has a bore 31 allowing the passage of the axis 32.
  • the figure 5 illustrates an alternative embodiment of the trigger 8.
  • the trigger 8 is in the form of an "L" of which a first branch 19, arranged orthogonally to the striker 4, comprises a blocking face 15 of the firing pin and ensures the locking of the firing pin 4 in the "armed" position and a second branch 20, substantially perpendicular to the first and the actuator 6, comprises a side d support 17 subjected to the action of the actuator 6.
  • a bore 31 of axis orthogonal to the face 15 allows the passage of a pivot.
  • the firing cycle is triggered by means of a first setpoint "firing cycle" (for example when the firer presses a firing button).
  • a first setpoint "firing cycle” for example when the firer presses a firing button.
  • the cam 1 is driven in a rotational movement along the arrow F.
  • the profile of the lateral rolling surface 12 of the cam 1 is defined to ensure the rotation of the cocking lever 2 through the roller 11 when the firing cycle of the weapon is engaged.
  • the law of movement of the cocking lever therefore depends on the cutting profile of the cam 1 which depends on the kinematics of the concept of weapon intended to receive the invention. The skilled person can define in a known manner this profile for the weapon in question.
  • the finger 13 of the firing pin 4 is no longer in abutment with the beveled face 30 of the trigger 8 which, under the action of the pusher 10 and its pusher spring 9, is put back into position locking.
  • the roller 11 then reaches the top dead zone 27 through which the raceway is circular. There is therefore no movement of the cocking lever 2 and more translation of the striker 4.
  • the striker 4 is locked.
  • the cam continues to rotate until it has reached its starting position.
  • the firing is triggered by means of the instruction "percussion”; the roller 11 then rolls on the percussion zone 28 allowing the return of the firing pin.
  • the coil of the electromagnet 6 is energized and the rod 7 of the core of the electromagnet 6 acts on the trigger 8 and unlocks the striker 4 held by its finger 3.
  • the striker 4 is then subject to the action of the spring 5 which decompresses and propels the firing pin 4 to the ammunition.
  • the percussion of the primer is performed.
  • the spring of the pusher 9 pushes the pusher 10 and causes the trigger 8 to rotate. At the same time, it also pushes the core of the electromagnet of the actuator 6 by acting, via the trigger, on the rod 7.
  • the roller 11 then reaches the striker withdrawal zone 29 and the device therefore returns to its starting position and a second firing cycle can be engaged.
  • the figure 6 illustrates the blocking in the "armed" position of the firing pin.
  • the locking pin 13 bears against the locking face of the trigger 8.
  • This locking face of the firing pin is substantially orthogonal to the axis of movement of the firing pin 4 (and therefore to the the force due to the compression of the spring 5) which allows to withstand the forces of the spring 5 and thus ensure the locking of the striker 4.
  • the invention comprises position sensors making it possible to know the position of the cam.
  • the computer can deliver the instruction "percussion” only when the instruction "percussion” is delivered only when the cam is in a percussion zone, that is to say when the roller 11 will have crossed the zone "of top dead center "27.
  • the device according to the invention allows two modes of operation: a “classic” operating mode and an “optimized” operating mode.
  • the “optimized” operating mode is the one described above, it consists in performing the percussion in two stages: a first time of posting of the ammunition and compression of the spring and a second time of release of the firing pin following a "percussion" instruction.
  • This mode of operation advantageously makes it possible to carry out a precision fire which will not be disturbed by the vibrations of positioning or distorted by an excessive delay between the validation of fire and the effective percussion.
  • the "conventional" operating mode is the one currently used by the weapons that do not include the device according to the invention, the striker is never locked (for example by keeping continuously the electromagnet 6 under tension) and the percussion is triggered by the crossing of the roller 11 of the "top dead center” zone 27.
  • This mode of operation is less accurate but allows a high rate of fire and is adapted to proximity shots. The operator can therefore choose the operating mode adapted to the target to be reached.
  • the motion law of the cam 1 is specific to the kinematics of the weapon in which the invention is integrated but respects some general principles such as the removal of the striker (zone 29) after the shooting phase (zone 28) , the absence of stress on the spring during most of the firing cycle, then the compression of the spring during the closure of the chamber (zone 26) and release of the authorized striker as soon as the chamber is closed (end of zone 27 ).
