Abstract

L'invention concerne un procédé pour le codage vidéo de séquences d'images, selon lequel des images de la séquence sont codées, en étant mises à l'échelle, de sorte que les données vidéo obtenues contiennent des informations qui assurent une représentation des images avec une pluralité de niveaux différents d'une résolution d'images et/ou de qualités d'image (par exemple en fonction du débit binaire), la résolution étant définie par le nombre de pixels par représentation d'image. Le codage s'effectue sur la base de blocs de sorte que, pour une description d'un mouvement approximatif de parties d'une des images, contenu dans la séquence d'images, au moins une structure de blocs décrivant le mouvement est produite, cette structure étant conçue de façon à être divisée, à partir d'un bloc, en blocs partiels comportant partiellement des sous-blocs qui divisent de manière plus fine les blocs partiels successifs. Selon ce procédé, une première structure de blocs est produite temporairement pour au moins un premier niveau de résolution et une deuxième structure de blocs pour un deuxième niveau de résolution, le premier niveau de résolution présentant un nombre de pixels et/ou une qualité d'image inférieurs à ceux du deuxième niveau de résolution. En outre, la deuxième structure de blocs est comparée à la première structure de blocs de façon à permettre de déterminer des différences de structure de blocs de sorte que, sur la base des propriétés des différences de structure, soit produite une deuxième structure de blocs modifiée de sorte que sa structure représente une partie de la deuxième structure de blocs. Ensuite, la deuxième structure de blocs modifiée et la deuxième structure de blocs sont comparées sur la base d'au moins une valeur proportionnelle à une qualité de l'image et la structure de blocs dont la valeur est directement proportionnelle à une meilleure qualité sert de base pour le codage de la séquence d'images.
