Description

MECANISME POUR INSTRUMENT D'ECRITURE, ET INSTRUMENT D'ECRITURE COMPRENANT UN TEL MECANISME MECHANISM FOR WRITING INSTRUMENT, AND WRITING INSTRUMENT COMPRISING SUCH A MECHANISM
More particularly the invention relates to a mechanism comprising: - a first element which comprises a guide extending between a first and a second substantially parallel edges; - A second element comprising a lug extending in the guide and movable along said guide, said lug having a given width in the transverse direction of the guide; and - at least one device for locking said lug. Many writing instruments include such a mechanism for removing or retracting a writing point which is most often a ball point. In these mechanisms, the guide, also called a cam path, is produced in the form of a groove or a slot. The guide can be helical, as in the document FR-A-2 809 671, in order to transform a pivoting movement of one of the parts of the body into translational movement of the tip along the longitudinal axis of the instrument. To lock the writing tip in the extended and / or retracted position, it is known to form an elbow or a recess, in which the lug of the second element of the mechanism is housed. However, the lug can generally come out quite easily from this housing, for example when you release the pen from a low height or when you press too hard on the tip. These mechanisms can also give an unpleasant feeling of play due to the freedom of movement of the lug in the housing. To reduce this feeling of play it is known to maintain the lug in support at the bottom of the housing through a pressure exerted by a spring on the second element. However, the use of a spring increases the force to be exerted to reach a locked position. In addition, in this case the force required to lock the writing tip in the extended position is generally greater than that required to lock the tip in the retracted position. In other types of writing instruments, the guide extends generally in the longitudinal direction, the mechanism then being controlled by a push button. For these latter mechanisms, the guide can be terminated by a heart-shaped path in which the lug is trapped between two actions exerted on the button. But in addition to the drawbacks mentioned for the helical guide mechanisms, one does not always obtain the locking or unlocking of the mechanism for each action exerted on the button. All of these drawbacks have a detrimental influence on the overall comfort of use of the writing article. The present invention aims to overcome the drawbacks mentioned above, by providing a mechanism which can be locked and unlocked in at least one position, in a safe and comfortable manner, if possible without increasing the manufacturing cost. To this end, the invention relates to a mechanism of the aforementioned type, characterized in that the locking device comprises' a recess extending in the first edge of the guide between a first and a second end, and an elastic member which extends opposite the recess from at least a first base integral with the first end of the recess, up to a vertex arranged in the guide at a distance from the second edge which is less than the width of the lug , said organ elastic being capable of being pushed towards the recess during the passage of the lug. The force required to position the lug of the second element on one side or the other of the locking device depends on the restoring force of the elastic member and on the profile thereof. Consequently, once the geometry of this member has been determined, the locking force is constant, whether the locking device is used for the extended or retracted position of the tip, even for pens having substantially different geometries. The recess allows the elastic member to be erased during the passage of the lug, and consequently the width of this lug can be very close to the width of the guide, which limits the play and improves comfort. In preferred embodiments of the invention, use is also made of one and / or the other of the following arrangements: the base of the elastic member extends in the extension of the first edge , in order to reduce the possibility of lug play at the locking device; - The elastic member has a second base secured to the second end of the recess, to avoid catching the lug regardless of its direction of movement; the elastic member has an intermediate U-shaped portion, the ends of the branches of the ϋ being respectively secured to the first and second bases, and the top of the elastic member being formed by the base of the U. the first base has a substantially different length the length of the second base, so that the unlocking force is different from the locking force; - The guide has at least one end stop extending between the first and second edges, the locking device being arranged at a distance from the stop, which adapted so that the elastic member is in engagement with the lug when the latter is in abutment against the said end stop, in order to immobilize the lug between the latter and the elastic member; the first element and the locking device are formed in one piece of plastic material obtained by molding, in order to reduce the manufacturing costs. The present invention also relates to a writing instrument comprising a tubular body having a front end provided with an opening, a writing tip movable between a storage position in which the tip is arranged in the body and a position of writing in which the tip passes through the opening, and a mechanism as defined above, which controls the passage from one of the positions of the tip to the other position. In preferred embodiments of the writing instrument according to the invention, use is also made of one and / or the other of the following arrangements: the body comprises a first tubular part and a second tubular part pivotally mounted relative to the first part, the first element of the mechanism being driven in rotation by said first part, the second element of the mechanism being movable in translation relative to said second part, and the guide of the mechanism being helical, in order to transform the pivoting movement of one part of the body with respect to the other into the movement for exiting or retracting the writing tip; the helical guide has a stop end proximal to the opening, a stop distal end, a first locking device arranged near the proximal end, and a second locking device arranged near the distal end, the locking being thus achieved only using the first and second elements of the mechanism; a movable member connected to the tip forms the second element of the mechanism, the first part of the body forming the first element of the mechanism, and the second part having a housing cooperating with the movable member and adapted to guide the latter in translation, in order to reduce the number of pieces. Note that due to the return force and the elastic member of its position relative to the end stop, it is perfectly possible not to have recourse to a spring longitudinally biasing the movable member, unlike most known mechanisms. Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear during the description which follows, given by way of nonlimiting example, with reference to the appended drawings in which: - Figure 1 is an exploded view of an instrument d writing comprising a mechanism produced according to the invention; - Figure 2 is a simplified sectional view of the writing instrument shown in Figure 1; - Figure 3 is an enlarged partial view of an element of the instrument shown in Figure 1. In the different figures, we have kept the same references to designate identical or similar elements. In Figure 1 is shown an exploded view of a writing instrument 1 type ballpoint pen with retractable tip. The pen has an external body comprising a front point 2 provided with an opening, a first part 3 forming the front portion of the pen and a second part 4 forming the rear portion. A cartridge 5 having a ball point 6 is slidably mounted through the opening of the point 2. As can be seen better in FIG. 2, the cartridge
5 is connected to a movable member 8 by fitting the rear end of the cartridge into a bore in this movable member. The movable member 8 is movable along the longitudinal axis X of the pen between a writing position for which the writing tip 6 comes out of the body and a storage position for which the tip 6 is arranged inside the body . The control of this movement will be explained in more detail below. The first part 3 of the body has at the rear a portion 7 of reduced diameter which penetrates inside the second tubular part 4 when the pen is assembled. The rear portion 7 forms a first element of the mechanism making it possible to exit or retract the writing tip 6. This first element 7 comprises a guide 9 delimited laterally by a first edge 11 and a second edge 12 which extend parallel to the one to the other along a helical line. The movable member 8 constitutes a second element of the mechanism which comprises a lug 13. The lug 13 extends in the guide 9 and can slide along the guide 9. In the embodiment shown, the first element 7 is tubular and the guide 9 forms a helical slot which passes through this element. However, it could be a helical groove. The movable member 8 has a cylindrical outer face of diameter adapted to penetrate into the first element 7, the lug 13 extending radially relative to this cylindrical outer face. Note that the movable member 8 has at its front end a recess 14 which facilitates the insertion of the lug in the guide 9. As can be seen more clearly in FIG. 3, the first element 7 comprises first and second locking devices (15,16). The locking device 15 comprises a recess 17 which extends in the first edge 11 of the guide between a first end 17a and a second end 17b. In the embodiment shown the recess 17 has the shape of an oblong hole passing through the wall of the first element 7, but it could be a simple hollow, especially in the case where the guide 9 is formed by a groove . The locking device 15 further comprises an elastic member 18 which extends opposite the recess 17. The elastic member comprises a first base 19 secured to the first end 17a, a second base 20 secured to the second end 17b and a crown 21 constituted by the base of an intermediate portion 22 in U whose ends of the branches is integral with the first and second bases (19, 20). The apex 21 is arranged in the guide 9 at a distance from the second edge 12 which must be less than the width of the lug, this length being measured along an axis substantially perpendicular to the edges (11, 12). Thus, when the lug 13 slides in the guide 9, it comes into contact with the intermediate portion 22 of the elastic member, which creates resistance to the movement of the lug. The user can then increase the force exerted on a control member driving the second element 8 so that the pressure exerted by the lug on the intermediate portion 22 is greater than the elastic return force of the member 18. The member elastic 18 is then pushed back into the recess 17 whose dimensions must be adapted to allow erasure of the top 21. Of course, the elastic member returns to its position after the passage of the lug. The intermediate portion 22 of the elastic member thus forms a locking point along the guide 9, which requires a determined force to be crossed. Note that this force depends essentially on the shape of the elastic member 18 and the profile of the lug 13, but which is not influenced by other elements of the pen, such as for example a spring which can be more or less compressed. In the embodiment shown, the first and second bases (19, 20) and the intermediate portion 22 form a bridge above the recess, but it is possible that the intermediate portion 22 is only connected to the first edge 11 by a single base, for example the first base 19, and that the intermediate portion 22 extends as close to the second end 17b. However, the bridge-shaped structure makes it possible to control more precisely the force necessary to push the elastic member 18 into the recess, and prevents the elastic member from getting across the guide 9, which could prevent crossing the locking point. Note that the first and second bases (19, 20) extend in the extension of the first edge 11 so as to form a continuous surface on which the lug can slide smoothly. The guide 9 is closed at its ends by stops, a proximal stop 25 longitudinally located on the side of the writing tip 6 and an opposite stop 26 called distal. As seen in Figure 3 where the lug 13 is symbolically shown in broken lines, the portion intermediate 22 of the elastic member 18 is located at a distance from the end stop 25 such that the elastic member 18 is in engagement with the lug 13 when the latter is in abutment against the stop 25. Thus, realizes a locked position in which the lug 13 of the second element is immobilized without play by the first element 7. However, it is possible that this immobilization is obtained by a point of contact between the elastic member 18 and the lug 13, and a point of contact between the movable member 8 and a stop forming part of the second part 4 of the body. The first base 19 extends in the extension of the edge 11 over a greater distance than the second base 20, so that the first base 19 has greater elasticity. This arrangement facilitates the tilting of the intermediate portion 22 towards the first base 19, so that the force required to bring the lug 13 into the position shown in Figure 3 is less than the force required to leave this position. In other words, it is easier to lock the mechanism than to unlock it, which increases the reliability of the locking without deteriorating the comfort of use. However, it is possible to adopt a reverse arrangement for either of the locking devices. The second locking device 16 has a structure identical to that of the first device 15 and is arranged in a similar manner relative to the distal end stop 26. This second locking device will not be more detailed, but it will be noted that it allows the writing tip 6 to be locked in the retracted position while the first locking device 15 locks the tip in the extended position. The first element 7 of the mechanism comprising the first and second locking devices (15, 16) and the guide 9 and the first part 3 of the body are formed in one piece. This part can be of any known plastic material which has adequate elasticity properties. In order to obtain mass production at minimum cost, the part forming the first element of the mechanism and the first part of the body is produced by injecting plastic material into a mold. The mechanism described above lends itself particularly well to the production of a writing instrument the output / retraction of which is controlled by pivoting of a first part of the body relative to one or more other parts of the body. To this end, in the embodiment shown, the second part 4 of the body is engaged on the rear portion 7 of the first part 3 so as to be able to pivot relative to the latter over an angular range of approximately 180 °. Peripheral beads 28 formed on the rear portion 7 engage with corresponding grooves formed on the inner face of the second part 4, so as to prevent any relative movement along the longitudinal axis X. The movable member 8 has one end rear 30 of non-cylindrical cross section, for example having opposite flats. The rear part 4 comprises a housing 31 extending along the longitudinal axis and whose cross section corresponds substantially to the cross section of the rear end 30, so that the latter can slide in the rear part 4 along the longitudinal axis X. To pass from an extended position to a retracted position of the tip 6, and vice versa, the user creates a pivoting between the first part 3 and the second part 4 of the body, over approximately a half-turn. The movable member 8 which is rotated by the second part 4, performs a forward or backward movement due to the cooperation of the lug 13 with the guide 9. When the mechanism approaches the extended position or the retracted position, the user passes a hard point which indicates that the pen is locked in writing or storage position. Once in one or other of these positions reached, the writing tip is immobilized and only a torque exerted between the first and second parts (3, 4), sufficient to overcome the restoring force of the locking device 15 or 16, allows to leave the storage position or exit of the tip. Note that due to the positive guidance of the movable member 8 and the elastic locking, it is not necessary to provide a spring which biases the cartridge in a longitudinal direction. In addition, because the first element 7 of the mechanism is an integral part of the first part 3 of the body, the number of parts constituting the pen is reduced. In the embodiment shown, there are five of these parts, but it would be possible to make a pen only in 3 parts by integrating the tip 2 with the first part 3 and by integrally forming the movable member 8 with the cartridge 5. Consequently, the embodiment described above makes it possible to produce a particularly inexpensive writing article whose number of assembly operations is limited. But of course, the first and second elements (7, 8) could be separate from the parts 3 and 4 forming the body, and even be connected to the latter by means of additional parts such as sleeves. It will be clear to those skilled in the art that the mechanism comprising the movable member 8 and the portion rear 7 provided with the guide 9 can be used in the field of writing instruments not only to exit and retract a writing tip, but also to control the movement of other organs. For example, using such a mechanism it is possible to control the movement of an eraser, a mine advancing device or the combined movement of a writing tip and a member shutter the opening of the body.
