The invention relates to a footrest for wheelchairs, which are useful for patients, the elderly or the disabled.

Usually wheelchair footrests are mounted on their support tubes front of a wheelchair. Each foot rest has a foot plate for the corresponding foot of a wheelchair patient, which is pivotable upwards to facilitate access to his wheelchair patient a wheelchair. These footplates are also pivotable fore and aft to be adjusted to the desires of the wheelchair patient. The storage of such footrests on the corresponding support tubes is extremely complicated.

Proceeding from this, the present invention seeks to provide a footrest for a wheelchair or the like in such a way that it can be optimally adjusted in terms of their position to the wheelchair patient or driver and also designed extremely simple.

This object is achieved in that the footrest, as disclosed in claim 1, comprises
  • a footplate for the foot of a wheelchair patient,
  • a support element for connecting the foot plate to a wheelchair and
  • a bearing unit for supporting the foot plate on the support element, wherein the bearing unit comprises
  • a bearing body associated with the foot plate and the support member
  • a first bearing member pivotally connecting the foot plate to the bearing body, and
  • a second bearing member pivotally connecting the bearing body to the support member.

The bearing unit is extremely simple, but allows for optimal individual positioning of the base plate. Due to the simple design of the footrest this is extremely inexpensive to produce. It is also easy to assemble and clean.

Advantageously, the bearing body has a first bearing recess for the first bearing element. It is also expedient that the bearing body has a second bearing recess for the second bearing element. A structural design is characterized in that the first bearing recess and the second bearing recess are substantially perpendicular to each other. The bearing body is provided for both the first bearing element and the second bearing element and allows for optimal adjustment of the position of the foot plate to the wheelchair patient.

The bearing body preferably has a lateral surface with at least one curved bearing section and at least one straight contact section. It is of great advantage if the foot plate has a bearing recess for receiving the bearing body, wherein the bearing recess advantageously has a side wall with at least one curved bearing portion and at least one straight contact portion. According to an advantageous embodiment, the foot plate between two end positions relative to the bearing body is pivotable, it being appropriate that in an end position of the Base plate abuts a bearing portion of the bearing body at a contact portion of the bearing recess, whereby a pivoting of the base plate is prevented beyond its end position.

A further advantageous embodiment is characterized in that the bearing body has a recess for the support element. In this way, a particularly good power transmission between the bearing body and the support element can be achieved.

The two gas pressure springs 32 are actuated via an operating lever, which is attached to the handle portion 28 and is connected via Bowden cables with the gas pressure springs 32 in connection.

The associated with the pipe body 15 receptacles 19 are provided for the storage of a left and a right foot rest 34. The footrests 34 are identical. On a footrest 34 and its items is below with reference to the accompanying Fig. 2 to 10 discussed in more detail.

The footrest 34 comprises a one-piece support tube 35 made of stainless steel, with which an artificial material base plate 37 is connected via an integral plastic bearing body 36. The foot plate 37 is also integrally formed. It is intended for the foot of a wheelchair patient.

The circular cross-section formed in the support tube 35 comprises a straight insertion section 38 whose outer diameter corresponds approximately to the diameter of the receiving recess of the receptacle 19. The length of the insertion portion 38 is approximately equal to the depth of the receiving recess. In the region adjacent the free end 39 of the insertion section 38, there is an alignment recess 40 which is U-shaped and open at the bottom. He or the footrest 34 is pivotable about a substantially vertical pivot axis in the receiving recess. In the front of the receptacle 19 a plurality of superimposed positioning openings 44 are provided, in which the shank of a steel bolt 45 can be inserted. The diameter of the shaft of the steel bolt 45 corresponds approximately to the opening width of an alignment recess 40, so that in the mounted state of a footrest 34 on the wheelchair 1, the shank of the steel bolt 45 at least partially seated in the alignment recess 40 can. By this intervention, an undesirable pivoting of the footrest 34 from the in Fig. 1 shown transport position prevented. For pivoting the footrest 34, the insertion portion 38 is slightly raised, so that the steel bolt 45 and the alignment recess 40 are disengaged. The steel bolt 45 is embedded in a plastic clip 46 which holds the steel bolt 45 to the receptacle 19 in the corresponding positioning aperture 44. The height of the foot plate 37 can be selected by the choice of the positioning hole 44.

At the opposite end of the free end 39 of the insertion portion 38, a bow portion 41 connects, which in a - based on the above transport position of the footrest 34 - obliquely merges forward down below connecting portion 42. On the connecting portion 42 in turn adjoins a straight bearing portion 43 which extends substantially vertically. In the area of the bearing portion 43 of the bearing body 36 is attached. The bearing body 36 is fixed to the support tube 35 via a threaded bolt 47, a recess 48 formed in the bearing portion 43 of the support tube 35, and a corresponding nut 49. The recess 48 extends substantially horizontally and has two, opposite, circular openings.

The bearing body 36 comprises an inner part 50 and an outer part 51 which is in communication with the inner part 50. The outer part 51 has two mutually opposite, flat, mutually parallel end faces, namely an outer end face 52 and an inner end face 53 facing the inner part 50 , As well as a perpendicular to this lateral surface 54. Related to Fig. 2 . 4 and 5 For example, the lateral surface 54 has an upper straight section 56 and a lower straight section 57 parallel to the upper section 56. The upper portion 56 is followed by bearing portions 58 which have an outward curvature and pass into straight abutment portions 59. The abutment portions 59 adjoin the lower portion 57. Starting from the upper section 56, the outer part 51 widens its width in the area of the bearing sections 58 to corresponding turning lines 60 and then tapers again as far as the contact sections 59. The turning lines 60 run in the bearing sections 58 The plant sections 59, the outer part 51 tapers uniformly in the direction of the lower portion 57th

In the outer part 51 extends centrally, based on the width of the outer part 51, a continuous longitudinal recess 61 whose width and depth corresponds approximately to the outer diameter of the bearing portion 43 of the support tube 35. The longitudinal recess 61 passes through the upper portion 56 and the lower portion 57, that is, it is open at the top and bottom. In addition, the longitudinal recess 61 is open to the outer end face 52 of the outer part 51. It is bounded by two, mutually parallel, straight boundary walls 62 and a connecting wall 63 interconnecting the boundary walls 62. The connecting wall 63 is curved toward the inner part 50.

The outer part 51 is also penetrated by a bearing recess 64 which is located above the turning lines 60 in the bearing sections 58. The bearing recess 64 extends perpendicular to the longitudinal recess 61 and has a circular cross-section over a first portion which extends from the lateral surface 54 to the one boundary wall 62 of the longitudinal recess 61 (see Fig. 4 right). In the region of the lateral surface 54, the diameter of this first section corresponds approximately to the diameter of the head of the threaded bolt 47, while in the region of the boundary wall 62, the diameter of this first section approximately matches the diameter of the shaft of the threaded bolt 47. The area of this first section adjacent to the lateral surface 54 is provided for receiving the head of the threaded bolt 47, while the boundary wall 62 adjacent section is formed for the shaft of the threaded bolt 47. Over a second portion, the bearing recess 64 has a hexagonal cross-section (see Fig. 4 Left). This second section extends from the other boundary wall 62 to the lateral surface 54. The cross section of the second portion of the bearing recess 64th corresponds approximately to the outer shape of the nut 49. The nut 49 can be positively received in the second portion of the bearing recess 64. Below the bearing recess 64 are two opposing, elongated recesses 66, which are open only to the lateral surface 54 out. Each recess 66 extends from a bearing portion 58 into an abutment portion 59.

Die Krümmung der Lager-Abschnitte 72 des Innenteils 50 entspricht ungefähr der Krümmung der Lager-Abschnitte 58 des Außenteils 51.The inner part 50 is connected via a neck part 67 to the outer part 51 and projects relative to the neck part 67 via a contact shoulder 68, which extends substantially parallel to the end faces 52, 53. The neck portion 67 is offset inwardly from the bearing portions 58, abutment portions 59, and upper portion 56 of the outer portion 51. However, the width, thickness and height of the inner part 50 are smaller than the width, thickness and height of the outer part 51. The inner part 50 has a lateral surface 69 with a lower, straight section 70, which is followed on both sides in each case by a straight contact section 71. The plant sections 71 merge into curved bearing sections 72. The bearing portions 72 are curved outwardly. There is an upwardly open, inwardly curved arc section 73, whose radius of curvature corresponds approximately to the radius of the bearing portion 43 of the support tube 35 and the width of the longitudinal recess 61 between the two bearing sections 72 , The inner part 50 expands, starting from the lower section 70, in the area of the abutment sections 71, constantly up to the bearing sections 72. In the area of the bearing sections 72, the inner section 50 then widens to corresponding turning lines 74; Subsequently, the inner part 50 tapers to the arc section 73. An abutment portion 71 of the inner part 50 extends approximately parallel to the corresponding abutment portion 59 of the outer part 51. The curvature of the bearing sections 72 of the inner part 50 corresponds approximately to the curvature of the bearing sections 58 of the outer part 51.

The inner part 50 also has centrally - based on the width of the bearing body 36 - a continuous bearing recess 75 which extends perpendicular to the longitudinal recess 61 and the bearing recess 64. The bearing recess 75 extends below the bearing recess 64. It is each end open and opens into the longitudinal recess 61. In the region of the inner part 50, the bearing recess 75 is circular. In contrast, in the region of the neck portion 67, the bearing recess 75 has a hexagonal shape.

The bearing body 36 has a symmetrical basic shape to a plane bisecting the inner part 50 and the outer part 51. This plane extends centrally through the longitudinal recess 61 and the bearing recess 75 and is perpendicular to the bearing recess 64. In FIG. 5 it is essentially vertical.

The foot plate 37 is bolted to the bearing body 36. For this purpose, a threaded bolt 76 and a corresponding nut 77 is provided. The circular region of the bearing recess 75 has a diameter which corresponds approximately to the diameter of the shaft of the threaded bolt 76. This region of the bearing recess 75 is provided for receiving the shank of the threaded bolt 76. The shape and dimension of the hexagonal portion of the bearing recess 75, however, adapted to the nut 77, which can be accommodated there form-fitting manner.

The foot plate 37 includes a footrest portion 78 for the foot of a wheelchair patient and a bearing portion 79 which adjoins the footrest portion 78 laterally. The foot rest portion 78 has a flat foot rest plate 80 about which a frame 83 extends along the two longitudinal edges 81 and its free transverse edge 82. The frame 83 extends downwardly from the footrest plate 80. In addition, four stiffener struts 84 project downwardly from the footrest plate 80. On the top of the foot rest plate 80 is a plurality of round anti-skid projections 85 projecting from the foot-on-plate 80. In the corner areas formed by the longitudinal edges 81 and the free transverse edge 82 of the foot rest plate 80 are two mounting recesses 86 which penetrate the foot rest plate 80 from top to bottom. In each case a fastening recess 86 of a foot plate 37 is to introduce an end portion of a threaded bolt for attachment of a rear wall. The rear wall is also still attached to the bearing portion 43 and prevents the foot of the wheelchair patient from slipping off the footrest plate 80 to the rear.

The bearing part 79 of the foot plate 37 is raised relative to the foot rest part 78. It has a side surface 87 facing the foot support part 78, a side surface 88 opposite the side surface 87, and two side surfaces 89 connecting the side surfaces 87, 88. In the bearing part 79, a bearing recess 90 is formed, which is open at the top and bottom and to the outside. The bearing recess 90 comprises an inner bearing region 91 for the inner part 50 and an outer bearing region 92 for the outer part 51. The inner bearing region 91 is located closer to the foot rest part 78 than the outer bearing part 91. Area 92. The inner bearing area 91 is defined by a side wall 93, two of these vertically extending side walls 94 and two retaining projections 95 which project inwardly from the side walls 94 and extend parallel to the side wall 93 formed. The side wall 93 is planar and extends approximately perpendicular to the foot rest plate 80. The side walls 94 each have a lower, straight abutment portion 96, which are parallel to each other. Each plant section 96 is followed by an outwardly curved bearing section 97. The curvature of a bearing portion 97 is substantially matched to the curvature of a bearing portion 72 of the inner portion 50 of the bearing body 36. The inner distance of the side walls 94 of the inner bearing portion 91 to each other corresponds approximately to the width of the inner part 50 of the bearing body 36 in the region of the turning lines 74, that is, the distance of the side walls 94 to each other approximately corresponds to the largest width dimension of the inner part 50. The retaining projections 95 are adapted to the neck portion 67 of the bearing body 36 accordingly. The course of a holding projection 95 corresponds approximately to the course of the side wall 94, that is, it also has a straight bottom portion 98 and a curved portion 99.

In addition, the inner bearing portion 91 at the top has an opening extending between the bearing portions 97. The lower opening of the inner bearing portion 91 has a larger opening width than the upper opening. In the region of the upper opening, the side wall 93 has a uniformly inwardly curved recess 100 whose radius of curvature corresponds approximately to the radius of the bearing portion 43 of the support tube 35. Each support projection 95 is followed by a contact wall 101, which runs parallel to the side wall 93 and has an approximately constant width. The recess 100 separates the bearing sections 97, the curved portions 99 of the retaining projections 95 and the upper, directly adjacent portions of the abutment walls 101 from each other. Adjacent to each abutment wall 101 is a side wall 102, which is perpendicular to the abutment wall 101 and merges into the side surface 88. Each sidewall 102 also has a lower, straight abutment portion 103 and an upper, curved bearing portion 104. The abutment portions 103 of the side walls 102 are parallel to each other. The side walls 102 and the abutment walls 101 with the retaining projections 95 are substantially adapted to the basic shape of the outer part 51 of the bearing body 36. The curvature of a bearing portion 104 corresponds approximately to the curvature of a bearing portion 58 of the outer part 51 of the bearing body 36. The width of a side wall 102 corresponds approximately to the width of the lateral surface 54 of the outer part 51st

Der Durchmesser der Lager-Ausnehmung 105 entspricht in etwa dem Durchmesser des Schafts des Gewinde-Bolzens 76.The side wall 93 and the side surface 87 of the foot plate 37 are penetrated by a bearing recess 105 which is parallel to the foot rest plate 80 and is circular in shape. The bearing recess 105 is centrally, based on the width of the side wall 93, arranged. The diameter of the bearing recess 105 corresponds approximately to the diameter of the shaft of the threaded bolt 76.

The foot plate 37 is symmetrical with respect to a plane which passes centrally through the bearing recess 90 and the bearing recess 105 and is perpendicular to the foot rest plate 80.

As already mentioned, the support tube 35 is bolted to the bearing body 36. For this purpose, the shaft of the threaded bolt 47 penetrates the bearing recess 64 in the bearing body 36 and the recess 48 in the support tube 35. The shaft of the threaded bolt 47 stands with the Nut 49 in threaded engagement, which sits in the correspondingly formed portion of the bearing recess 64. In this section, a rotation of the nut 49 relative to the bearing body 36 is not possible. The bearing body 36 is pivotable on the support tube 35 about the shank of the threaded bolt 47. The threaded bolt 47 thus forms a bearing element for the pivotable mounting of the bearing body 36 and the foot plate 37 on the support tube 35. The pivoting takes place about the longitudinal center axis of the threaded bolt 47, according to Fig. 1 essentially horizontally.

Die Anlagewände 101 berühren die Stirnfläche 53.The bearing body 36 is disposed in the bearing recess 90 of the foot plate 37. The outer end surface 52 of the bearing body 36 is aligned in the horizontal position of the foot plate 37 with the side surface 88 of the foot plate 37. The inner part 50 of the bearing body 36 is located in the inner bearing portion 91 of the base plate 37, while the outer part 51st is disposed in the outer bearing portion 92. The portions 58, 59 of the bearing body 36 are the side walls 102 of the base plate 37 facing and partially touching, while the portions 71, 72 of the bearing body 36, the side walls 94 facing and partially abut against these. The projections 95 engage the bearing body 36 in the region of the neck portion 67 and prevent the bearing body 36 from moving inwardly or outwardly in the bearing recess 90. The abutment walls 101 touch the end face 53.

The shaft of the threaded bolt 76 passes through the bearing recess 105 of the base plate 37 and the bearing recess 75 of the bearing body 36. The threaded pin 76 is in threaded engagement with the nut 77 in the correspondingly formed section the bearing recess 75 is seated. A rotation of the nut 77 relative to the bearing body 36 is not possible. The threaded bolt 76 forms a bearing element for pivotally supporting the foot plate 37 on the bearing body 36. The pivoting takes place about the longitudinal center axis of the threaded bolt 76, which extends substantially horizontally.

Fig. 6 dargestellten, herabgeklappten, horizontalen Stellung und einer in Fig. 9 dargestellten, hochgeklappten, vertikalen Stellung verschwenkbar. The function of the footrest 34 or the interaction of the individual parts of the footrest 34 will be described in more detail below. The foot plate 37 is on the one hand between an in Fig. 1 respectively. Fig. 6 shown, folded down, horizontal position and one in Fig. 9 shown, folded, vertical position pivoted. This pivoting upwards or downwards takes place about the shank of the threaded bolt 47, which according to FIG Fig. 1 in a substantially horizontal plane. The moment required for pivoting is adjustable by the tightening torque of the threaded bolt 47. By a corresponding tightening of the threaded bolt 47 of the bearing body 36 and thus also the base plate 37 can be set in any pivot position. In the tightened state, the nut 49 presses against the support tube 35. The bearing body 36 is thereby clamped to the support tube 35. Since the nut 49 is not rotatable in the bearing recess 64, the nut 49 when tightening the threaded bolt 47 need not be kept extra. It is preferred that the foot plate 37 be fixed so as to remain movable by applying a corresponding operating torque to the foot plate 37. This operating torque is adjustable by tightening the threaded bolt 47.

In the folded down pivot position of the base plate 37, an end portion of the bearing portion 43 extends in the longitudinal recess 61 of the bearing body 36. The end portion extends over the entire length of the longitudinal recess 61. It lies here So a large-scale contact between the restricting walls 62 and the end portion of the bearing portion 43. The diameter of the bearing portion 43 of the support tube 35 and the depth of the longitudinal recess 61 of the bearing body 36 is - as already mentioned - chosen so that the bearing portion 43 does not protrude laterally from the bearing body 36 , In the raised position of the base plate 37 is a portion of the bearing portion 43 in the correspondingly formed arc portion 73 of the bearing body 36th
The bow portion 73 allows the foot plate 37 to be folded up almost vertically and forms a pivot limiting abutment.

The foot plate 37 is also pivotable about a further pivot axis which is formed by the shank of the threaded bolt 76. This pivotability is best in the FIGS. 7 and 8 shown. Related to Fig. 1 is a pivoting of the foot plates 37 forward or backward possible. The bearing sections 58 and 72 of the bearing body 36 thereby guide the base plate 37 via their correspondingly adapted bearing portions 97, 104. In Fig. 8 an end position of the foot plate 37 is shown. In an end position of the foot plate 37 are the corresponding abutment portions 59, 71 of the bearing body 36 to the corresponding abutment portions 96, 103 of the base plate 37 to surface. The actuation torque for pivoting the foot plate 37 can also be adjusted by the tightening torque of the threaded bolt 76 here. A lock in any pivot position is also possible by tightening the threaded bolt 76 accordingly. In the locked position, the bearing body 36 and the foot plate 37 are compressed by the head of the threaded bolt 76 and the nut 77. The foot plate 37 is thus clamped to the bearing body 36. By the corresponding configuration of the bearing recess 75, the nut 77 must not be held when tightening the threaded bolt 76.

The bearing recess 90 has at the top an inlet bevel 106, so that a folding up of the foot plate 37 in all forward or backward pivoted positions is possible.

The base plate 37 is thus pivotable about two pivot axes by the bearing unit, which are perpendicular to each other and horizontal. As a result, the foot plate 37 can be optimally adjusted to a wheelchair patient.

Instead of the nuts 49, 77 used, it is also possible to form corresponding threads directly in the bearing body 36.
