Ein weiterer Vorteil der Erfindung ist, dass die Bereitstellung des Verfahrens sehr einfach und kostengünstig ist, da bereits vorhandene Sensoren und/oder Erfassungseinrichtungen für das Wäschegewicht bzw. Drehzahl der Trommel verwendet werden können. Dies geschieht auf einfache Weise dadurch, dass nach dem Starten des Waschprogramms bzw. nach Betätigen einer Starttaste in einer ersten Phase die Drehzahl oder Drehbewegung der Trommel direkt oder indirekt, beispielsweise über die Drehung des Antriebsmotors, überwacht wird. Auch Drehbewegungen um einen kleinen Drehwinkel, beispielsweise kleiner 5 Grad, werden erfasst und führen zu einer zuverlässigen Erkennung eines Kindes oder Tieres in unzulässiger Weise in der Trommel. Da in dieser ersten Phase der Motor inaktiv ist, wodurch die Trommel noch nicht durch den Motor bewegt wird, führt eine ermittelte Bewegung zum Beenden des vom Benutzer voreingestellten Waschprogramms.
