Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for producing a structure in a smooth sheet metal strip, which is particularly mobile for producing exhaust gas treatment devices
- components or structures in the exhaust pipe, which provide a relatively large surface area.
- These components are usually provided with an adsorbing, catalytically active or other coating, and because of the large surface area of the components, intimate contact with the exhaust gas flowing past is realized.
- Such components are, for example, filter elements for filtering out particles contained in the exhaust gas, adsorbers for storing pollutants (e.g. NO x ) contained in the exhaust gas at least for a limited time, catalytic converters (e.g.
- the following carrier substrates have basically proven themselves: ceramic honeycomb bodies, extruded honeycomb bodies and honeycomb bodies made of metal foils. Due to the fact that these carrier substrates must always be adapted to their functions, high-temperature-resistant and corrosion-resistant sheets are particularly suitable starting materials for production.
- honeycomb bodies with a plurality of at least partially structured sheets, which are then introduced into a housing are and thus form a support body which can be provided with one or more of the above coatings.
- the at least partially structured sheets are arranged in such a way that channels arranged essentially parallel to one another are formed.
- some of the sheets are provided with a primary structure, which is characterized, among other things, by a regular, repetitive structure, in particular a type of sine wave structure, a sawtooth structure, a rectangular structure, a triangular structure. Structure, an omega structure or the like.
- These sheets provided with the structure are then stacked on top of one another (alternately, if necessary, with smooth intermediate layers), twisted together and inserted into a housing.
- a honeycomb body is thus formed which has channels which are essentially parallel to one another.
- Very thin sheets represent a very low surface-specific heat capacity, ie relatively little heat is extracted from the exhaust gas flowing past or the sheets themselves experience a temperature increase relatively quickly. This is important because the catalytically active coatings currently used in the exhaust system only begin to react with the pollutants above a certain light-off temperature, which is around 230 ° C to 270 ° C. With the aim of converting these pollutants with an effectiveness of at least 98% after just a few seconds, sheets are used which have a film thickness of, for example, less than 50 ⁇ m (0.05 mm), in particular even less than 30 ⁇ m (0.03 mm).
- Strain hardening can negatively influence the forming behavior of the sheets. Due to the use of relatively thin sheets, there is also the risk that the sheet foils tend to crease, roll up and / or tear during manufacture. These undesirable deformations can occur during manufacture, as well as during transport or during use in an exhaust system of an automobile, or can increase. For example, the creases cause u. U. channels are clogged or cracks are formed, which propagate due to the high thermal and dynamic loads in the exhaust system of an automobile and endanger the structural integrity of the honeycomb body. It should also be taken into account that such wrinkled or deformed primary and / or secondary structures oppose the exhaust gas in an undesirable manner, so that an increased dynamic pressure in front of the honeycomb body is to be feared, which can possibly lead to a reduction in engine performance.
- the method according to the invention for producing a structure in a smooth sheet metal strip comprises at least the following steps: a) feeding a first section of a smooth sheet metal strip to a first one
- the sheets which are ultimately used in exhaust gas treatment systems of automobiles, are usually produced from a sheet metal strip, the
- the metal strip is made of a high temperature-resistant and corrosion-resistant material.
- the material is based on iron and has at least one of the components aluminum, chrome and nickel. While the metal strip has a length of many meters, the width corresponds to the
- Sheet metal strip essentially already the desired width, as for the
- the width is usually smaller in the range
- the sheet metal strip is usually rolled up into a coil and is fed via conveyor devices. Due to the fact that two processing steps take place here one after the other, different sections of the sheet metal strip are processed.
- the first section of the smooth sheet metal strip is first machined by the first tool and finally also fed to the second tool.
- the second section may already have been machined by the first tool, but it is also possible that the second section still encompasses a smooth area of the sheet metal strip.
- the sections preferably extend over the entire width of the sheet metal strip and have a section that is essentially oriented on the structure to be produced.
- the section length of the first section and the second section is preferably the same.
- the section on the smooth sheet metal strip essentially corresponds to the working area of at least one tool.
- Tool is a generic term for various types of devices, apparatus, etc. for sheet metal forming.
- step a Due to the fact that the sheet metal strip is continuously formed in one piece, according to step a) the first section is simultaneously transported or fed to the first tool and a second section to the second tool in the desired feed direction. After step a), a section of the sheet metal strip is thus close to the respective tool, which has not yet been processed by the first or second tool.
- This first section or second section preferably adjoins the section of the sheet metal strip which has just been machined in the feed direction.
- step b If this feeding of the sheet metal strip has been carried out in the desired position, the sheet metal strip is to be stopped according to step b). So is ensures that the sheet metal strip does not move relative to the tools while the following step c) is carried out.
- Sheet metal processing of the first section of the sheet metal strip is now carried out using the first tool (step e)).
- the "sheet metal working" includes in particular sheet metal forming and separating manufacturing processes.
- Sheet metal forming is characterized in particular by the fact that the sheet metal strip is formed into flat hollow parts or structures, with an essentially uniform material thickness after the processing step, as was also the case before the processing step. This applies, for example, to the manufacturing processes of pulling, pressing, bending, etc.
- Other forming manufacturing processes can be hydroforming, superplastic forming, magnetic forming, etc.
- Sheet metal processing also includes processes for sheet separation, such as cutting or Fineblanking, laser beam cutting, water-abrasive beam cutting, etc.
- step d) is carried out, in which sheet metal processing of the second section is carried out with the second tool.
- step a) is carried out again, ie a (new) first section is fed to the first tool and a (new) second section is fed to the second tool.
- the first machining step is carried out with the sheet metal strip at rest, while the second machining step takes place simultaneously with a relative movement of the metal strip to the tools.
- step d) and step a) are overlapped in time.
- the sheet metal processing with the second tool is such that it automatically generates a movement of the sheet metal strip relative to the second tool.
- the combination of steps d) and a) simultaneously opens up particularly rapid processing, so that very high feed speeds of the sheet metal strip can be achieved.
- feed speeds above 10 m / min meters per minute
- feed speeds of above 25 m / min or even above 50 m / min can be achieved.
- step e) comprises the introduction of at least one hole in the first section and step d) creates a structure in the second section of the sheet metal strip, the second section already being provided with at least one hole.
- the second section which is provided with a structure here, was previously processed using a sheet metal cutting process.
- hole is again a generic term for a cutting edge of any shape introduced into the sheet metal strip, in particular also a slot, an opening, an elongated hole, a rectangle, etc.
- step d) has to be adapted accordingly, for example via the type of introduction of the structure or a special configuration of the second Due to the fact that the at least one hole is very small compared to the entire second section, a very precise alignment of the hole to the second tool is required, which is made possible here in particular by the combination of steps a) and d) becomes. In this context, it is particularly advantageous that the second tool engages in the at least one hole during step d).
- the intervention of the second tool is to be understood in particular in such a way that sheet metal forming takes place in the immediate vicinity of the hole, that is to say that the region of the sheet metal strip adjacent to the hole is deformed.
- the second tool can therefore rest on the hole and / or at least partially penetrate it after the forming.
- this also means that the second tool and the section previously processed by step e) form a positive fit when performing step d). Precisely with such a method or with the types of primary and / or secondary structures of very small dimensions described at the outset, the precise feeding of the sections to the tools is also guaranteed in the context of series production.
- a structure is produced in step d) in the second section of the sheet metal strip, which structure has a primary structure and a secondary structure.
- the primary structure is preferably formed in a repeating manner and advantageously also continuously in succession over the entire length of the sheet metal strip.
- the secondary structure overlaps the primary structure or extends only over a spatially limited part of the primary structure.
- the secondary structure can comprise knobs, wings, edges or similar structures.
- the secondary structure serves u. a the influencing of a fluid flow guided along the surface of the sheet metal strip, so that swirling or calming zones arise in which, on the one hand, a kind of turbulent flow or a reduced flow velocity can be generated with respect to the fluid.
- WO 01/80978 AI the content of which is made the subject of the disclosure here.
- step c) comprises the
- Allocate sheet metal separating manufacturing processes a part of the material of the sheet metal strip being separated from other partial areas with a cutting edge or a knife. Material can be removed from the sheet metal strip (forming a recess, an opening, etc.) or material can only be pushed aside (such as in the case of a slot). It is also possible for openings and slots to be introduced next to one another in the first section.
- the plurality of holes are preferably formed in rows and in particular over the entire width of the sheet metal strip.
- several rows with holes can also be introduced at the same time or at different times from one another.
- step d) comprises corrugating the sheet metal strip.
- corrugated rolling the sheet metal strip is passed through two rotating, intermeshing, intermeshing profile rollers.
- the corrugated rollers not only serve to produce a structure in the sheet metal strip, but at the same time represent the transport element with which the sheet metal strip is conveyed on or in in a defined manner. In particular, this makes it necessary for the rollers to feed the sheet metal strip, in particular by generating a force in the feed direction on the sheet metal strip.
- steps a) to d) are carried out repeatedly, the repetition speed being at least 5 Hertz [Vse kun d e ]. Repetition speeds above 10 Hertz or even above 20 Hertz are particularly preferred for series production.
- the repetition rate is a measure of the time intervals in which step a) is started again.
- a repetition rate of 5 Hertz means that the process steps a) to d) are repeated five (5) times in one second.
- the sheet metal strip is tensioned by means of the second tool and a holding device that precedes the first tool.
- the holding device has the function of first relieving the load on the upstream coil.
- the holding device ensures that the sheet metal strip is stretched between it and the second tool as the last shaping processing station, so that sagging, upsetting or the like are avoided. This supports a particularly precise feeding of sections of the sheet metal strip to the tools. For example, brakes, friction linings or the like can be used as the holding device.
- operating materials include in particular oils, lubricants, coolants, etc.
- the operating materials are intended to support the processing or forming of the sheet metal strip or to prevent the tools from jamming or jamming.
- an apparatus for producing a structure in a smooth sheet metal strip comprises at least a first tool for sheet metal processing and a second tool for sheet metal processing and is characterized in that the first tool and the second tool are arranged directly one behind the other and the second tool has means for simultaneously performing sheet metal forming and sheet metal strip feed.
- the device is particularly suitable for carrying out the inventive method described above.
- the first tool and the second tool are arranged directly one behind the other, that is to say a separate feed to the tools is dispensed with.
- the second tool represents a sheet metal strip advance both for itself and for the upstream first tool. Accordingly, the second tool pulls the sheet metal strip into the first tool.
- the second tool has a clocked drive, which enables feed in such a way that the desired first section is always fed to the first tool.
- a particularly precise feeding of the sheet metal strip is thus created because the pulling in of the sheet metal strip by the second tool (regardless of further feeding devices) always keeps the relative distance from the first section and the second section constant.
- the sheet metal forming preferably takes place simultaneously over the entire width of the sheet metal strip.
- the first tool and the second tool form a distance in a feed direction of the sheet metal strip that is less than 1000 mm [millimeters]. This distance is preferably even less than 500 mm or even less than 200 mm.
- the omission of separate drives for feeding the sheet metal strip enables a first and second processing station (or tool) to be positioned very close to one another. I.e. also that the first sheet metal working and the second sheet metal working essentially be carried out in an area of the sheet metal strip which has only very slightly different material properties. This ensures that the sheet metal processing that is carried out with the first tool is finally formed very precisely and precisely in relation to the final position in the second tool. A very space-saving and precisely working device is thus specified.
- the first tool is a punching tool. This serves in particular to make holes, etc. in the sheet metal strip, which subsequently enable complex structures to be formed with the second tool.
- the punching tool has a lifting drive, which generates a work and an empty cycle.
- a lifting drive which generates a work and an empty cycle.
- eccentrics, camshafts or similar devices can be used, for example, which temporarily cause the punching knife to move, but on the other hand result in the punching tool coming to a standstill.
- the drives can be mechanical, hydraulic and / or electromagnetic.
- the second tool comprises intermeshing profile rollers.
- the production process corrugated rolling is carried out in particular.
- the intermeshing profile rollers have a surface contour that essentially rolls on one another during the rotation. They preferably do not touch each other, but have a gap with each other, which is essentially the Sheet thickness of the sheet metal strip corresponds. This results in a particularly gentle forming of the sheet metal strip.
- the second tool has a rotary drive which provides a rotational clock frequency of at least 5 Hertz [second]. Due to the fact that the second tool simultaneously determines the feed of the sheet metal strip, that is to say acts as a kind of transport element, the rotational clock frequency of the rotary drive essentially corresponds to the repetition speed of the machining process.
- the rotation drive advantageously even enables rotation clock frequencies above 10 Hertz, in particular even above 20 Hertz. In this case, rotations, for example, lie above 3,000 m i n and more.
- the device is advantageously to be designed such that at least the first tool or the second tool has a working zone which corresponds to a multiple of a width of the structure.
- the configuration is preferred in such a way that both the first tool and the second tool have the same working zone, which corresponds to a multiple of the width of the structure. It is very particularly preferred to design a working zone which corresponds essentially exactly to the simple width of the structure. This means that, for example, in the provision of intermeshing professional rollers, the second working tool is the working zone of a tooth of the profile roller, which ultimately determines the width of the structure.
- sheet metal here means an area of the sheet metal strip cut to a certain length.
- Exhaust gas treatment device are in particular catalyst carrier bodies, adsorbers, particle filters, flow influencers, etc. in question.
- internal combustion engines in particular diesel or gasoline engines of automobiles are meant.
- Figure 1 shows schematically the structure of a device for producing a structured sheet according to the invention.
- FIG. 2 shows an illustration to illustrate an embodiment of the method according to the invention
- FIG. 3 schematically and in perspective a detailed view of a
- FIG. 5 shows an exemplary embodiment of the sheet metal strip after a first sheet metal working with the first tool
- Fig. 6 shows an embodiment of a sheet after production with the device or method according to the invention.
- FIG. 1 shows schematically and in simplified form the construction of a device for producing a structure 1 in a smooth sheet metal strip 2.
- the smooth sheet metal strip 2 is supplied to the device from a supply 20, which is shown here as a coil.
- the device which is mounted here in a common housing 22, comprises a first tool 4 for sheet metal processing and a second tool 6 for sheet metal processing.
- the first tool 4 and the second tool 6 are arranged directly one behind the other.
- the second tool 6 has at the same time means for carrying out a sheet metal feed in the feed direction 7.
- a first section 3 becomes the first tool 4 and a new second section 5 simultaneously (with the reshaping of a second section 5 of the sheet metal strip 2 with the second tool 6) second tool 6 supplied.
- the second tool 6 which is formed here with intermeshing profile rollers 14, has a rotary drive 16, which thus realizes the sole advance of the sheet metal strip 2 in the device.
- the first tool 4 is designed as a punching device and has a stroke drive 14.
- the first tool 4 and the second tool 6 are at a very small distance 13 from one another.
- the sheet metal strip is tensioned by means of the second tool 6 and a holding device 11, which precedes the first tool 4, which is designed here as a brake or friction resistor. Between the holding device 11 and the first tool 4 there is also a roller 21 with which an operating material 12 is applied to the surface of the sheet metal strip 2.
- the movement of the first tool 4 comprises a (punching) knife 23 and a camshaft 24.
- the movement of the second tool 6 is shown in a highly simplified manner, the movement of the intermeshing profile rollers 15 being characterized.
- Below these sketches is a diagram showing the distance (s) covered with the respective tool over time (t). The two graphs shown are with "A" for the movement of the first Tool 4 and "B" marked for the movements of the second tool 6.
- step e) of the method according to the invention begins, in which sheet metal processing of the first section of the sheet metal strip is carried out with the first tool 4.
- the camshaft 24 sets the knife 23 of the figure downward in motion, so that the knife 23 penetrates the sheet metal strip.
- the knife 23 has reached its lowest point, that is, it has completely penetrated the sheet metal strip 2. This is followed by an upward movement of the knife 23 until it has returned to its original position, as at time (I), at time (III).
- the position of the profile wheels 15 with respect to one another has not changed. Only now, at time (III), the profile wheels 15 move towards each other and form a new structure and move the sheet metal strip in the feed direction.
- the sheet metal strip 2 comprises a secondary structure 10, which is partially delimited by two holes 8, which are designed here as slots, these slots extending only in an inner region of the metal strip 2.
- the secondary structure 10 protrudes from the primary structure 9 of the sheet metal strip 1.
- the primary structure 9 is designed with wave crests 25 and wave troughs 26.
- the Edge regions 27 of the slots are, as indicated, enlarged in the following FIGS. 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3.
- the sheet metal strip 2 is shown in a section which essentially corresponds to the working zone 17 of the first tool and the second tool.
- 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 show detailed views of a secondary tincture 10 which is delimited by a hole 8.
- the hole 8 makes it possible for the selcundary structure 10 to be formed from the sheet metal strip 2 such that it emerges from the primary structure 9.
- the edge area 27 is shown as a simple slot.
- 4.2 and 4.3 8 recesses 31 are provided in the edge region 27 of the hole.
- the recesses 31 in FIG. 4.2 forms an arc 30 with a radius of curvature 32 which is preferably in the range from 0.2 mm to 0.4 mm.
- the recess 31 is shown as an undercut.
- Other shapes of the recesses 31, for example reducing the notch effect, can also be used.
- Fig. 5 shows schematically a sheet metal strip 2, as it can be designed after processing by the first tool.
- the sheet metal strip 2 has a multiplicity of holes 8 which are arranged in rows 35 or in lines 34 to one another.
- the openings 8 are formed in the edge regions 27 with recesses 31, the two recesses 31 being connected to one another via a slot 28. All holes 8 are arranged in an inner region 33 of the metal strip 2.
- the holes 8 must now be aligned exactly towards the second tool, since they at least partially delimit a secondary structure 10.
- the sheet 19 thus has a structure 1 (or primary structure) which is overlaid by a secondary structure 10.
- the secondary structure 10 is formed here with guide surfaces 29, which partially delimit the respective hole 8.
- the guide surfaces 29 are both in the Wave valleys 26 and 25 arranged in the wave crests and are each oriented in opposite directions.
- Structure 1 can be described by a height 36 and a width 18, height 36 being the distance from wave crest 25 to wave trough 26 and width 18 meaning the distance between two adjacent wave crests 25 or wave troughs 26.
- the ratio of width 18 to height 36 is preferably in a range from 2.0 to 1.3. In this way, channel densities of exhaust gas treatment devices can be formed which are in the range from 100 to 1000 cpsi (“cells per square inch”; 6.45 channels / square inch corresponds to one channel / cm 2 ).
- the method described here and the device proposed here allow the sheet metal strip to be guided particularly precisely during the production of very complex structures. At the same time, a particularly space-saving arrangement of the tools can be achieved and a high machining speed can be achieved.
