Description

The invention relates to a device for applying one or both sides of at least one liquid or pasty application medium to a running surface, comprising a curtain applicator for applying the at least one application medium and having at least one catching device for collecting the at least one application medium during the start, stop Phase of a coating operation of the curtain applicator, wherein the curtain applicator dispenses the at least one application medium during the coating process as a substantially gravity-based moving curtain to the moving surface, and the surface when directly applied the surface of a paper, cardboard or other fibrous web and indirect application the surface of a transfer element, preferably an applicator roll, which delivers the at least one application medium to the surface of the fibrous web.

As is generally known from the prior art, the catcher is used to catch at the start, stop phase and interruptions in the coating process from the curtain applicator already or dispensed application material. Such a collecting device is in the US 5,885,659 disclosed. Because of the very small space, the catcher, which is usually a trough-like or trough-shaped component, have only a very small slope of about 1 ° to 5 °. Because of the low gradient, there may be problems in draining the application medium in the catcher. This applies in particular to the standby state, that is to say during which the collecting device must permanently receive and discharge the application medium. During the current coating process, if no application medium is taken up and removed by the collecting device must, can dry residues of the application medium in the catcher, which can lead to malfunction during standby condition. Furthermore, dried-on particles of the application medium in the standby state, when again the application medium flows through the collecting device, break loose and complicate the preparation of the application medium and in the worst case even clog the pipes. Since the curtain in the current designs during the coating process is usually between the operator and the catcher, the operator can not clean the catcher during the coating process. Therefore, the power of the application medium must be completely stopped for cleaning. If, however, no application medium flows through the nozzle of the curtain applicator, the nozzle may clog with dried-on remains of the application medium. In addition, the interruption of the flow through the nozzle changes the nozzle temperature, which changes the shape of the nozzle gap. Repositioning a stationary flow of the application medium through the nozzle requires a lot of time and application medium. This process is therefore very expensive.

It is based on the generic EP A2 0 421 466 directed. In this document, a coating device and a vertically movable transducer (solution providing member) for coating solutions (coating solutions) is provided. The susceptor catches the coating solution intermittently. In addition, a washing device for washing this pickup with water or the like is provided.
The disadvantage of this solution is that the washing or cleaning medium and contaminants are not dissipated separately from the coating solution.

The invention has the object to improve the device of the type mentioned in such a way that the above-mentioned disadvantages will be avoided in the future.

The device of EP-A-421 466 is cleanable during operation of the device, ie the curtain applicator. Then the curtain applicator plant to clean the catcher no longer has to be turned off. The flow of the application medium through the nozzle can now continue despite the cleaning process of the catcher without interruption and clogged by not. As a result, time and application medium can be saved, so that the coating is cheaper.

So that the cleaning medium and the dissolved contaminants do not affect the consistency and the quality of the recirculated application medium, according to the invention, the cleaning medium, including dissolved contaminants discharged separately from the application medium bar, so separated from the application medium.

Particularly easy is the at least one catcher during the clean the actual coating process, since the catcher is then not needed.

For this purpose, a spray pipe and / or a spray nozzle and / or a plurality of spray nozzles may be provided, from which a cleaning medium is sprayed into the catching device for cleaning purposes.

This can be realized very easily if a valve is installed for this purpose, which separates or diverts the flow containing the cleaning medium and the dissolved contaminants from the return flow of the application medium.

In an alternative embodiment, a hopper for receiving the application medium and a funnel for jointly receiving the cleaning medium and the contaminants may be arranged below the collecting device, wherein the collecting device to the respective funnel, above the hopper, is mobile. Depending on whether the collecting device is in the standby state (ie at the start, stop phase of the curtain applicator) or during the coating process in the waiting position or the cleaning position, the collecting device can be positioned together with a drain pipe arranged on her above the respective hopper become. In this way, the cleaning medium and the dissolved contaminants, as I said, can be removed together separately, without affecting the consistency and quality of the application medium.

In one embodiment of the invention, the cleaning process of the catcher from the beginning of the coating process automatically be performed. This reliably prevents residues of the application medium from drying in the collecting device when no application medium is flowing through the collecting device.

If the catcher is automatically cleaned by the end of the coating process, the cleaning process will automatically stop when the standby state is over so that the cleaning media can not mix with the application media.

In order to optimize the cleaning process and to save cleaning medium, the cleaning process of the collecting device when reaching a desired degree of purity of the collecting device is automatically switched off.

In a further embodiment, it is possible to pivot the collecting device during the coating process by a certain angle of inclination. By pivoting the collecting device, the remaining application medium can converge in the collecting device and be optimally removed from the collecting device. If the pivotable catcher is combined with the above sprayers, the catcher can be cleaned even more thoroughly. However, it is also possible not to equip the pivotable catcher with the aforementioned sprayers.

Since there is only a limited space for pivoting the collecting device between the collecting device and the nozzle of the curtain applicator located above, it makes sense if the collecting device is first moved away at least approximately parallel to the fibrous web under the curtain applicator and then pivoted. As a result, a collision between the catcher and the nozzle is excluded.

In a first embodiment of the pivotable catcher is the Tray suspended from at least two rods, which are hinged at one end to the catcher and the other end to a pivot bearing, wherein the closest to the curtain applicator rod is shorter than the curtain applicator furthest located rod. The linkages can be realized inexpensively by pivot bearings. Overall, this is a very simple and thus inexpensive construction, which allows the catcher only approximately parallel move away under the nozzle and then to pivot for the cleaning process.

In a second embodiment, the collecting device can be hinged at its end remote from the curtain applicator at a crank and the collecting device between its two ends have a sliding pivot bearing. This is also a simple construction, which then comes when the spatial conditions preclude an arrangement of the rods, as they are provided in the first embodiment.

In a third embodiment, the collecting device has on its underside a hook element into which a first pivotable rod can be hooked in, and the collecting device has a second pivotable rod at its end remote from the curtain application unit, which is articulated at one end to the collecting device and at the other end to a rotary bearing , This alternative is appropriate if, for spatial or constructional reasons, the other two alternatives are eliminated.

Embodiments of the device according to the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

In the example shown, the fibrous web 12 is being coated, so that the collecting device 14 does not catch any application medium 11, and therefore can be cleaned by means of a spray tube 17, from which a cleaning medium 18 exits. The collecting device 14 is positioned above the funnel 16 with an outlet fitting, not visible here, which is provided exclusively for receiving the application medium 11 coming from the spray tube 17 and the dissolved dirt.

Fig. 2 shows the device 10 in the standby state during which the application medium 11 falls into the catcher 14. The spray tube 17 is now switched off. The collecting device 14 is located with its unrecognizable outlet nozzle above the funnel 15, which is provided exclusively for receiving the application medium 11. Thus, through the funnels 15 and 16, the application medium 11 on one side and the cleaning medium 18 and the dissolved contaminants on the other side can be removed separately. This preserves the consistency and the quality of the application medium 11.

In another embodiment, not shown here, instead of the two funnels 15 and 16, a valve can be provided which redirects the cleaning medium 18 and the dissolved contaminants together and separates them from the stream of the trapped intercepted application medium.

The spray tube 17 can be switched on automatically from the beginning of the coating process. Thus, residues of the application medium 11 can not dry in the collecting device 14 when no application medium 11 flows through the collecting device 14.

The spray tube 17 can be switched off automatically at the end of the coating process. Consequently, the cleaning medium 18 can not mix with the application medium 11.

However, it is also possible to automatically end the cleaning process of the collecting device 14 upon reaching a desired degree of purity of the collecting device 14. This saves energy and cleaning medium.

Fig. 3 shows a device 30 with a pivotable catcher 31. The catcher 31 is suspended from two rods 32 and 33. The catcher 31 is shown in three positions A, B and C. The position A shows the catcher 31 below a curtain applicator 34. In this Position is the catcher 31 during the standby state, so if no application medium is applied to a fibrous web, not shown here. In order to pivot the collecting device 31, it must first be moved away at least approximately parallel to the fibrous web not shown here under the curtain applicator 34, so that a collision between the catcher 31 and the curtain applicator 34 is avoided. For this purpose, the rods 32 and 33 are pivoted counterclockwise until the catcher 31 is in position B. Since the rod 32 is shorter than the rod 33, the catcher 31 to position B performs an approximately parallel displacement to the fibrous web, not shown. By further pivoting the rods 32 and 33 in the counterclockwise direction, the catcher 31 is finally pivoted to the end position C. In the end position C, the collecting device 31 has a sufficiently large angle of inclination, through which the application medium runs down and thus can be reliably removed from the collecting device 31.

The rods 32 and 33 are suspended on pivot bearings 34 and 35. The pivot bearings 34 and 35 are low-maintenance and inexpensive components. The rods 32 and 33 or at least the rods 32 may be driven pneumatically or hydraulically. The fact that the catcher 31 is suspended from the rods 32 and 33, a conflict with the fibrous web not shown in detail or also not shown below the fibrous web located tubs, rollers or other components is excluded.

Fig. 4 shows a device 40, in which the catcher 31 is articulated at its one end to a crank 41. During a rotational movement of the crank 41 by about 90 ° clockwise, the catcher 31 is moved approximately parallel from the position A below the curtain applicator 34 in the position B. In this case, a pivot bearing 42 is also moved in a guide 43 to the right. By further turning the crank 41 clockwise pivots the catcher 31 in the position C, wherein the catcher 31 to the pivot bearing 42 around also pivoted clockwise. The pivot bearing 42 is also a low-maintenance and inexpensive component. The crank 41 can also be driven pneumatically or hydraulically, with an electric drive is possible. The movable pivot bearing 42 and the guide 43 allow a space-saving pivoting of the catcher 31. This construction allows a free space above the fibrous web, not shown for other components.

Fig. 5 shows a device 50 with a catch element 51 having on its underside catcher 52. The catcher 52 is hinged to a pivotable about a pivot bearing 55 rod 53. When the rod 53 is pivoted clockwise, the catch 52 is moved from position A approximately parallel to the right under the curtain applicator 34 until a rod 54 hooks into the hook member 51 at position B. By further pivoting the rod 53 in a clockwise direction hooked into the hook member 51 rod 54 is also pivoted in a clockwise direction, whereby the catcher 52 is pivoted to the position C. For this alternative embodiment, only one drive is required, which drives the rod 53. The rod 53 can be actuated both by a linear drive, such as a pneumatic cylinder, and by a rotary drive, such as an electric motor. This embodiment also allows a free space above the fibrous web, not shown, for other components.

The respective lengths of the rods 32, 33, 53 and 54 and the crank 41 can be chosen so that the application medium flows optimally and the view of an operator on the pivoted catcher 52 is still possible.

The pivotable collecting devices 31 and 52 may additionally be provided with the spray tube 17.
