Abstract

The invention relates to an assembly of a wall and a tube arranged therein substantially parallel to the wall surface, wherein the tube debouches on the wall and the tube has a non-round cross-section along substantially the whole length. It is hereby possible to obtain a large passage area, while the overall depth in the wall remains limited. <IMAGE>

Description

  • The invention relates to an assembly of a wall and a tube arranged therein substantially parallel to a wall surface.
  • DE-U-8518833 discloses such an assembly.
  • When installing bathroom fixtures it is usual nowadays to recess outlet pipes and supply pipes in the wall so that they are concealed from view. This can normally be taken into account in new house building, but in the case of renovation or conversion problems can occur if it is desired to recess supply and outlet pipes in the wall. Particularly in the case of outlet pipes, which can easily have a diameter of more than 4 cm, the problem may occur that the wall into which the outlet pipe has to be recessed is too thin. A usual thickness for a wall is 7 cm, and when an outlet pipe of more than 4 cm in diameter has to be recessed therein a channel at least 4 cm deep must therefore be cut therein, whereby there remains only a residual thickness at the position of the channel of less than 3 cm. This can seriously affect the strength and integrity of the wall.
  • It is now an object of the invention to provide an assembly of a wall and a tube arranged therein, wherein the above stated drawbacks are alleviated or even obviated, while the tube has a sufficiently large passage opening for use as for instance an outlet pipe.
  • This object is achieved with an assembly according to the invention wherein the tube debouches on the wall and the tube has a non-round cross-section along substantially the whole length.
  • Owing to the non-round cross-section it is possible to still obtain a large passage area, while the overall depth remains limited, and the strength and integrity of the wall can thus be minimally affected.
  • In a preferred embodiment the non-round cross-section is oval.
  • In addition, the non-round cross-section can also be rectangular.
  • In another preferred embodiment of the assembly according to the invention, the cross-section of the tube has a first and second main dimension, wherein the first main dimension is greater than the thickness of the wall and wherein the second main dimension is smaller than the thickness of the wall.
  • With such dimensions an optimal passage area is obtained for a tube recessed into the wall, wherein other requirements, such as the strength of the wall, are also taken into account.
  • Yet another preferred embodiment of the assembly according to the invention comprises a washbasin arranged substantially at right angles to the wall and having an outlet opening, wherein the outlet opening connects onto the mouth of the tube.
  • In yet another embodiment of the assembly according to the invention, the tube arranged in the wall comprises at least two telescopic tube parts. It is hereby possible to adjust the mouth in the wall subject to for instance the floor thickness. It is often found to occur that after a floor has been poured the height of the mouth of the tube is not correct and has to be adjusted. With the two telescopic tube parts it is possible after pouring the floor to fix the exact height of the mouth, whereafter the tube can be recessed into the wall.
  • The tube part adjoining the mouth of the tube preferably slides in the other tube part. The risk of leakage is hereby minimized.
  • In yet another embodiment of the assembly according to the invention, the tube comprises at least one fixing flange extending in longitudinal direction. The tube can be secured in the wall with this fixing flange, whereafter the wall is levelled off so that the tube is concealed.

  • Figure 1 shows an assembly 1 according to the invention. This assembly 1 consists of a wall 2, a tube 3 arranged in the wall and a washbasin 4 arranged on the wall.
  • Figure 2 shows assembly 1 according to the invention in further detail. Wall 2 has a thickness d. A channel 5 in which tube 6 is arranged is cut into wall 2. The tube has a first main dimension L1 and a second main dimension L2. L1 is herein greater than the thickness of the wall d and L2 is smaller than the thickness d. Arranged on tube 6 are two flanges 17 which are mounted in wall 2 by means of screws 8 and plugs 9. A finishing layer 10 is applied over the tube so that the tube is concealed from view.
  • Figure 3 shows a second embodiment 11 of a tube according to the invention. This tube 11 has a first tube part 12 which slides in a second tube part 13. Arranged on the first tube part 12 is a mouth 14 which can be connected to for instance washbasin 4. The second tube part 13 is provided with a right-angled part to which a round outlet pipe 15 is connected. Tube 11 can thus be connected easily to existing outlets.

Claims (7)

  1. Assembly of a solid wall having a channel with a substantially U-shape, a tube to be used as an outlet pipe for a bathroom fixture, and being arranged in the channel substantially parallel to the wall surface, and a finishing layer covering the tube and the channel, such that the U-shape of the channel is closed off by the finishing layer, wherein the tube debouches on the wall and the tube has a non-round cross-section along substantially the whole length, wherein the cross-section of the tube has a first and second main dimension, wherein the first main dimension is greater than the thickness of the wall and wherein the second main dimension is smaller than the thickness of the wall.
  2. Assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the non-round cross-section is an oval.
  3. Assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the non-round cross-section is rectangular.
  4. Assembly as claimed in any of the foregoing claims, comprising a washbasin arranged substantially at right angles to the wall and having an outlet opening, wherein the outlet opening connects onto the mouth of the tube.
  5. Assembly as claimed in any of the foregoing claims, wherein the tube arranged in the wall comprises at least two telescopic tube parts.
  6. Assembly as claimed in claim 5, wherein the tube part adjoining the mouth of the tube slides in the other tube part.
  7. Assembly as claimed in any of the foregoing claims,
    wherein the tube comprises at least one fixing flange extending in longitudinal direction.
