- This spring has a dual function: on the one hand it tends to separate the crown from the box tube, so that, when the crown is unscrewed, it can be manipulated, axially or rotatably, without interfering with the box tube, and on the other hand it exerts an axial force on the packing d seal 18 even when the crown is unscrewed, at least when the control rod 4 is not pulled axially beyond its inoperative position (fig. 2), so that if the user of the watch forgets to screw the crown back on after it has made use of the control device, this axial pressure exerted on the seal 18 completes the seal already partially ensured by the radially acting seal 9.
- the arrangement described and shown has yet another advantage over known watch control devices of this type, in that the barrel 6 is in contact with the central bore of the box tube 3 and is thus perfectly axially guided when the crown is pressed against the case tube in order to screw it onto it.
- the coil spring 21 has a diameter greater than half the diameter of the crown, whereas, in known devices of this type, the diameter of the spring is generally half as large, it follows that the crown is perfectly well “seated” on the case tube, under the effect of the spring and the aforementioned guide, so that it can be easily screwed, without there being any risk that the screwing does not start badly , which can cause deterioration of the threads 20 and 19 of the box tube 3 and of the crown 8, respectively.
