Definitions
- the invention relates to a process for producing a shaped body of sintered steel, wherein an iron-based sintered powder is mixed with a master alloy powder containing nickel, less than 10% by weight boron and iron, and the powder mixture in which the weight ratio between the nickel and the boron content exceeds 5, is pressed into a molding before the molding is sintered under conditions of liquid phase sintering with a liquid phase volume fraction of 15%.
- the nickel diffuses into the iron powder at the latest after the first occurrence of melt, whereby iron partially dissolves in the liquid phase and existing nickel boride is converted to iron boride, at least at temperatures above of iron-boron eutectic again reacts with iron to form a liquid phase so that the liquid phase increasingly surrounds the grains of iron powder.
- the increase of the liquid phase during the sintering causes a reduction of the pores and thus a compression of the sintered steel. Since the amount of liquid phase is largely determined by the content of iron in the liquid phase, it has already been proposed ( T. Nishida, T. Yamazaki, S. Chida, M.
- Yamamiya Effect of B on the Densification and the Mechanical Properties of Sintered Iron Powder Compacts, J.JapanInst. Metals, Vol. 54, no. 10 (1990), pp. 1147-1153 ) to use a master alloy powder of iron, nickel and boron, so that over the master alloy in addition iron boride is provided, which brings about an acceleration of the reactions that entail an increase in volume of the liquid phase.
- Reticular eutectic structures are formed which increase the tensile strength of the sintered steel, but in particular significantly reduce the impact strength.
- the invention is therefore based on the object, a method for producing a shaped body made of sintered steel of the type described in such a way that in particular the impact resistance of the sintered steel can be significantly increased.
- the invention achieves the stated object in that the boron content of the powder mixture is between 0.10 and 0.15% by weight and that the prealloy powder has an average particle size of between 10 and 90 ⁇ m.
- an average fineness of the master alloy powder (average particle size between 10 and 90 ⁇ m) can be improved in suppression of a pronounced boride network as compared to fine powders, because these coarser master alloy powders preferably obtained by gas atomization have rounded edges less prone to agglomerate and more uniformly mixed with the iron-based sintered powder.
- the carbon needed for the hardening of a sintered steel is added in the usual way as graphite.
- the carbon adversely affects the beneficial effect of the boron on the sintering process, so it is advisable to limit the carbon content to a value between 0.15 and 0.8% by weight.
- the described effects of the inventive measures are not dependent on the composition of the iron-based sintering powder, so that the Composition of this sintered powder can be selected according to the respective requirements.
- the pre-press powder is also not limited to a ternary alloy.
- the master alloy powder may additionally contain manganese, chromium, copper, molybdenum, vanadium, titanium, niobium, tungsten, carbon, aluminum and / or at least one element from the group of lanthanides.
- a master alloy powder containing 67% by weight of nickel, 30% by weight of iron and 3% by weight of boron was used. The average particle size was 40 ⁇ m.
- This master alloy powder was mixed at 4% by weight with an iron-based sintered powder containing 0.3% by weight of carbon. The powder mixture was pressed into a cylindrical shaped article having a green density of 7.160 g / cm 3 and then sintered at a temperature of 1250 ° C. under a hydrogen atmosphere. After sintering, a density of 7.314 g / cm 3 was measured. The impact strength could be measured at 78.24 J / cm 2 .
- a master alloy powder containing 63% by weight of nickel, 30% by weight of iron and 7% by weight of boron having an average particle size of 60 ⁇ m was used in an amount of 2% by weight of the total powder mixture.
- the iron-based sintered powder again had a carbon content of 0.3% by weight.
- a green density of 7.068 g / cm 3 and a sintered density of 7.228 g / cm 3 were measured.
- the impact strength was 76.21 J / cm 2 .
- the nickel content in the sintered steel in the first embodiment was 2.68 wt.% And the boron content was 0.12 wt.%, which corresponds to a ratio of nickel to boron of about 22: 1.
- the proportion of nickel with 1.26 wt.% And of boron with 0.14 wt.% could thus be given as 9: 1.
- Curve 1 refers to a master alloy powder comprising 67% by weight of nickel, 30% by weight of iron and 3% by weight of boron, this prealloying powder being mixed in various amounts with the sintering powder. After sintering under the conditions of the embodiments, the impact resistance of the shaped bodies having different boron proportions was measured. Curve 1 shows the basic curve of the impact resistance as a function of the values of the boron content plotted on the abscissa in% by weight. The size of the impact resistance is determined by the composition of the sintering powder, so that only the fundamental dependence of the impact strength on boron content was reproduced in the drawing, but not certain measured values for the impact resistance. It can be seen that the impact strength reaches a maximum in the range of a boron content of between 0.13 and 0.15% by weight of the sintered steel, and then drops off sharply to higher borane proportions.
- the curve 2 reflects the measured values which result when using a master alloy powder with 63% by weight of nickel, 30% by weight of iron and 7% by weight of boron according to the second exemplary embodiment.
- curves 1 and 2 only the proportions by weight of the master alloy powder on the powder mixture were changed, but the remaining parameters were left unchanged. It can be seen from the two curves 1 and 2 that arise for the master alloy powder with the higher nickel and the low boron content in a wide range more favorable conditions with respect to the impact strength of the moldings. From the two curves can also be read that at a boron content greater than 0.2 wt.%, The impact strength decreases rapidly.

Abstract
Description
Da die Menge an flüssiger Phase maßgeblich vom Gehalt an Eisen in der flüssigen Phase bestimmt wird, wurde bereits vorgeschlagen (T. Nishida , T. Yamazaki , S. Chida, M. Yamamiya: Effect of B on the Densification and the Mechanical Properties of Sintered Iron Powder Compacts, J. Japan lnst.
