Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a time zone timepiece whose hour hand can be advanced or retracted in steps of one hour by means of a manually operated time setting rod, without the fact that minutes display is affected.
  • a timepiece of the above kind can be useful to a traveler when he moves from one time zone to another and he must adapt his watch to the new time. As this new time is shifted, relatively to the old, in one direction or the other of an entire hour, it is useful for the wearer of the watch to have at his disposal means to move forward or backward instantly. Hour hand position of an entire hour without the minute display being affected.
  • the Ruch patent relates to a timepiece comprising a local time indicator member, a time zone indicator disc rotating about the hour wheel barrel, and a jumper and wheel device. star connecting said disk to the hour wheel.
  • the Ulysse Nardin patent relates to a timepiece comprising an hour hand capable of being advanced in steps of one hour by means of two manually operated pushers, this needle being fitted on a barrel, first and second levers controlled by the two pushers acting on the teeth of a correction star fixed on the barrel, an hour wheel adjusted to free pivot about said barrel being coupled to the correction star by a jumper mechanism, while a wheel additional, integral with the correction star, causes a date disc.
  • the Ulysse Nardin patent also relates to a timepiece providing an indication of the time of a time zone. It does not mention the drive of an additional device such as a date mechanism.
  • the Ulysse Nardin patent relates to a timepiece providing an indication of the time of a time zone.
  • This patent differs from the Ruch patent in that the indication of the spindle is provided not by a disc, but by the hour hand which is likely to be advanced or retracted in steps of one hour without the display minutes are affected.
  • the Ulysse Nardin patent provides for driving a date mechanism. However, this is a mechanism for date said dragging, that is to say a mechanism whose passage time from one indication to another is about two hours.
  • the object of the present invention is to remedy the problem mentioned above as well as to others by providing a time zone timepiece comprising an additional device opposing a resisting torque which may be greater than the coupling torque between the wheel of the two wheels. hours and the extra wheel.
  • the present invention relates to a time zone timepiece comprising an hour hand capable of being advanced or retreated in steps of one hour by means of a time-setting rod. manually operated without affecting the display of the minutes, this needle being fitted on a barrel around which is adjusted to free pivoting a wheel of hours driven by a timer, an additional wheel secured to the barrel resulting in an additional device, the hour wheel being coupled at the wheel by a limited torque mechanism, the timepiece being characterized in that, apart from the periods when the time zone time is corrected, the hour wheel and the additional wheel are also rigidly coupled by a second coupling mechanism.
  • the second coupling mechanism comprises a pinion which meshes simultaneously with the hour wheel and the additional wheel.
  • the torque given by the mechanism used to couple the hour wheel and the supplemental wheel serves only to advance or back the hour hand in one hour increments to correct the time of the time zone or account of the change from daylight saving time to winter time or vice versa.
  • the role of this pair becomes preponderant in the case where an additional device is driven by the additional wheel. Indeed, to ensure proper operation of the watch, this torque must be greater than the resisting torque opposed by the additional device. In the case of watches currently available on the market, this condition is always verified, insofar as the additional device is typically a trailing or at best semi-instantaneous date mechanism. This is not the case in the case where the additional device opposes a higher resisting torque to the torque given by the mechanism used to couple the hour wheel and the additional wheel.
  • the limited-torque mechanism used to couple the hour wheel and the additional wheel has the function of only allowing the positioning of the hour hand in the case of a change of time zone, which does not requires a very low torque and, therefore, easy to achieve in a small volume.
  • the coupling of the hour wheel and the additional wheel is provided by a pinion.
  • This arrangement is particularly advantageous in the case where the additional device takes the form of an instantaneous date mechanism. Indeed, such a mechanism opposes a resisting torque more than four times greater than the torque of the mechanism that usually connects the hour wheel to the additional wheel in the case of setting time in the opposite direction of the needles.
  • the present invention proceeds from the general inventive idea which consists, during all the phases of operation of a timepiece with time zone except that which consists of setting the time of the time zone, to rigidly couple the hour wheel and the additional wheel by means of a coupling pinion.
  • the transmission of the torque from the timer to the additional device during the phases of operation and time setting passes through the hour wheel, the pinion coupling and the additional wheel.
  • the transmission of force between the hour wheel and the additional wheel is thus deflected via the coupling pinion, the limited-torque mechanism which makes it possible to couple the hour wheel and the additional wheel being no longer operative only during the set time of the time zone, the mating gear being, in the latter case, outgrown.
  • time of the watch we mean setting the conventional time of the latter, that is to say the operation of making moving forward or backward the hour hand and the minute hand concomitantly
  • time zone time means the operation of advancing or retreating in steps of one hour the hour hand only, the minute hand remaining motionless.
  • FIGS. 1 and 2 are views, respectively from above and in section, of the time zone mechanism according to the invention.
  • this mechanism comprises a wheel of hours 2 adjusted to freely pivot about a gun hours 4 on which is fitted a hand hours 6.
  • the hour wheel 2, mounted on the barrel 4 through a washer 8, is driven by a timer 10.
  • An additional wheel 12, integral with the gun hours 4, causes an additional device.
  • this additional device comprises an instantaneous jump date mechanism generally designated by the general numerical reference 14.
  • this example is given for purely illustrative and nonlimiting purposes only, and that the additional device may be constituted by any other type of watch mechanism, provided it is driven by the additional wheel 12.
  • the choice of an instantaneous date mechanism simply makes it possible to highlight the advantages provided by the present invention as will be described in detail below.
  • the hour wheel 2 is coupled to the additional wheel 12 by a limited torque mechanism 16 which comprises a spring 18 acting on the teeth 20 of a correction star 22.
  • the correction star 22 can come from material with the barrel hours 4 as represented in the figure 2 . According to an alternative embodiment, the correction star 22 may also be constituted by a separate part fixed on said barrel 4.
  • the spring has two substantially vertical returns 24 which plunge into two diametrically opposite corresponding slots 26 formed in the hour wheel 2, returns by which said spring 18 is made integral in rotation with said wheel hours 2.
  • the hour wheel 2 rotates, it drives the spring 18 which in turn causes the correction star 22.
  • the hour hand 6 advance and the additional wheel 12 rotates, causing the 14.
  • you want to change the time zone you turn a rod setting 28 (see figure 3 and following) which drives the additional wheel 12 via a correction train 30.
  • the hour wheel 2 can be considered as practically immobile.
  • the additional wheel 10 and therefore the hour gun 4 and the correction star 22 rotate, while the spring 18, immobilized in rotation by the hour wheel 2, compresses and jumps from a space between two teeth 20 of the correction star 22 to the immediately following space.
  • the work of the spring 18 in compression and relaxation is made possible by the fact that its returns 24 are free to move radially in the slots 26 of the additional wheel 12 in which they are housed.
  • the hour hand 6 can advance or retreat in steps of one hour without the display of minutes is changed, although the watch continues to operate. Note that for the coupling of the two wheels is possible, it is still necessary that the hour wheel 2 and the additional wheel 12 have the same number of teeth and the same module. In addition, the teeth of the two wheels 2 and 12 must be superimposed at the time of assembly and their number must be a multiple of twelve.
  • the main advantage of the invention lies in the fact of providing a timepiece including a time change mechanism of a time zone to which can be added an additional device such as a instantaneous date mechanism that opposes a resistant torque that can be up to four times higher than the torque produced by the mechanism used to couple the hour wheel to the additional wheel.
  • an additional device such as a instantaneous date mechanism that opposes a resistant torque that can be up to four times higher than the torque produced by the mechanism used to couple the hour wheel to the additional wheel.
  • the figures 3 and 4 are views, respectively from above and in section, of the time-setting train 32 and the date mechanism 14 when the time-setting rod 28 is in its rest position corresponding to the normal operation, and where appropriate, the reassembly of the timepiece when it is driven by a mainspring (not shown).
  • the timer 10 In this position of the setting rod 28, the timer 10 is driven by the roadway (not shown).
  • the timer 10 includes a timer wheel 36 and a timer gear 38 which drives only the hour wheel 2.
  • the hour wheel 2 drives the additional wheel 12, but the coupling mechanism 16 does not include the correction star 22 and the spring 18 is solicited.
  • the hour wheel 2 and the additional wheel 12 are rigidly coupled by a coupling pinion 40 which transmits the movement of said wheel hours 2 to said Additional wheel 12.
  • the additional wheel meshes with an intermediate mobile 42 which itself drives the date mechanism 14.
  • the coupling pinion 40 is carried by a linkage 44. More specifically, this linkage 44 comprises a coupling rocker 46 which carries the coupling pinion 40 and whose position is controlled by a control lever 48, itself same controlled by a pull tab 50 connected to the time setting rod 28. It is seen on the other hand that the control lever 48 carries two sliding gears, namely a sliding pinion time setting 52 and a pinion additional player 54. Depending on the position occupied by the control lever 48, the sliding time-setting pinion 52 and the additional sliding pinion 54 respectively mesh with the timer wheel 36 or with an additional return 56 which itself causes the additional wheel 12.
  • the figures 5 and 6 are views, respectively from above and in section, of the time-setting train 32 and the date mechanism 14 when the time-setting rod 28 is in a first drawn position corresponding to the correction of the time time zone.
  • the pull tab 50 pivots and in turn pivots the control lever 48 and the coupling lever 46 so as to move the coupling pinion 40 away so that it is no longer engaged with the hour wheel 2 and the additional wheel 12.
  • the additional sliding gear 54 comes into mesh with the additional gear 56 which itself is engaged with the additional wheel 12.
  • the time zone mechanism 1 plays its conventional role.
  • the additional wheel 12 drives the correction star 22.
  • the hour wheel 2 can be considered practically immobile.
  • the spring 18 is immobilized in rotation by said hour wheel 2, and will compress and jump from a gap between two teeth 20 of the correction star 22 to the immediately following space.
  • the hour hand 6 can move forward or backward step by step one hour without the minute display being changed, although the watch continues to operate.
  • the figure 7 is a top view of the time setting train 32 and the date mechanism 14 when the time setting rod 28 is in a second drawn position corresponding to the time setting of the watch, position in the which the sliding gaiting pinion 52 meshes with the timer 10 which itself drives the hour wheel 2 coupled to the additional wheel 12 by the pinion gear 40.
  • the date mechanism can oppose a resisting torque which can be up to four times higher than the torque of the spring mechanism 18 by which the hour wheel 2 and the additional wheel 12 are coupled.
  • the coupling pinion 40 by which said hour wheel 2 and the additional wheel 12 are rigidly coupled fully plays its role. Indeed, in the absence of this pinion 40, it would simply be impossible to put the watch on time in the opposite direction of the hands. This is due to the fact that the date mechanism 14 is an instantaneous jump mechanism comprising in particular a cam 60 whose profile has a steep slope 62 at a location along its length.
  • the instant jump date mechanism 14 comprises a date wheel 64 driven by the intermediate mobile 42 and which in turn drives the cam 60 via a pin 66.
  • the pin 66 is housed in a slot 68 formed in the date wheel 64 within which said pin 66 is movable.
  • the date mechanism 14 also comprises a movable finger 70 free in rotation with respect to the date wheel 64 but linked in rotation with the cam 60 via the pin 66.
  • date 14 finally comprises a trigger latch 72 whose spout 74 is held pressed against the profile of the cam 60 by a spring 76.
  • An instantaneous date mechanism is, we recall, a mechanism to achieve, at midnight, the instantaneous passage of the date.
  • the arming time of the elements of the mechanism is several hours, typically of the order of eighteen hours, the energy being suddenly restored at midnight.
  • the energy is provided by the trigger flip-flop 72 which, following the profile of the cam 60, deviates from its rest position and allows the spring 76 to store energy.
  • the spout 74 of the trigger rocker 72 first meets a gentle slope 78 and then follows a contour 80 before falling abruptly at the steep slope 62.
  • the latch 72 falls, it causes the pivoting of the finger 70 and the cam 60, the finger 70 causing a date ring 82 of a step.
  • the pin 66 moves in the slot 68 and the system remains in the state until the date wheel 64 has caught said pin 66.
