- the transverse axis of the half ellipse lies with the mirror symmetry line of the thread groove in the needle cross section on a common straight line.
- the longer of the two semiaxes, which lies on the ellipse longitudinal axis preferably has a length of about 5 to 20%, for example about 7%, 10% or 14%, compared to the shorter semiaxis.
- other length ratios may be appropriate beyond.
- the cross-sectional edge profile on both sides of the thread groove follows from the semicircular base line in the circumferential direction of the semicircular base shape up to or beyond circular radii, which are applied as tangents to the cross-sectional profile of the thread groove.
- the thread groove in the needle cross-section extends only within the first profile region.
- the yarn channel has a channel bottom with a rounded in the needle cross-section, more preferably circularly rounded, curvature surface. With respect to such a rounded thread trough is also reference to the DE 100 26 576 A1 taken by the applicant
- an additional yarn channel or supplementary channel is provided with a channel base which is rounded in cross-section and which can be arranged substantially opposite to the yarn channel embedded in the first profile region in the needle cross-section.

Description
The present invention relates to a sewing machine needle with a piston extending from a piston, which has on its lateral surface - starting from the needle tip region - at least one extending in the direction of the piston thread groove, wherein the needle cross-section at least lengthwise sections a first profile area in the basic shape of a semicircle with it embedded trough and a along the Halbkreisfußgeraden adjacent, second profile region comprises, the basic shape of which has a transversely to Halbkreisfußgeraden directed cross-sectional reduction compared to a mirror-symmetrical semicircle.
Based on this, the present invention seeks to further develop a sewing machine needle of the type described advantageous.
Further, it is preferable that a sewing machine needle of the present invention has a groove extending from the needle point side needle eye toward the piston so as to leave enough space for the loop catcher tip a gripper, boat or the like. To offer and thereby increase the security against miscarriage. The groove can, for example, be designed in a known manner as a flat bed hollow throat or as a radiating hollow throat with a groove profile designed correspondingly in the longitudinal direction of the sewing machine needle. With regard to its position in the needle cross-section, it is preferred that the groove is located in the second profile region, more preferably on the outer circumference, opposite the thread groove. In particular, the groove can be embedded in a longitudinal section of the sewing machine needle in which the elliptical cross-section reduction according to the invention is undertaken. Depending on the selected on the cross-section circumferential position of the groove and the groove depth can be realized at least in some areas over the elliptical or elliptical flattening cross-section reduction through them at the needle cross-section. In an embodiment in which the elliptical or elliptical flattening according to the invention as well as the cross-sectional flattening by the groove are each aligned transversely to the Halbkreisfußgeraden, is achieved at reduced puncture holes at the same time advantageous that the stability of the needle in the sewing direction, that is also transverse to the groove , is maintained despite the flattening of the invention. In an expedient development, there is the possibility that the ellipsoidal or elliptical cross-section reduction, starting from a needle tip region, for example. From a conical neck of the needle tip, in the direction of the piston in the longitudinal direction continuously to the groove and more preferably extends beyond the groove , In this way, in order to achieve particularly small puncture holes in the sewing material, a limitation of the needle cross section may even be made over the entire puncture length to a cross section composed only of the initially defined first and second profile regions.
With regard to the second profile region is further preferred that this has a basic shape in the form of a semi-ellipse whose longitudinal axis with the Halbkreisfußgeraden coincides. Alternatively or in combination, it can be provided that the transverse axis of the half ellipse lies with the mirror symmetry line of the thread groove in the needle cross section on a common straight line. The longer of the two semiaxes, which lies on the ellipse longitudinal axis, preferably has a length of about 5 to 20%, for example about 7%, 10% or 14%, compared to the shorter semiaxis. Depending on the desired size of the puncture holes and depending on the further design of the needle cross-section also other length ratios may be appropriate beyond.
With regard to the advantageous effect described in this aforementioned application that arise by a preferred large concave rounding of the thread groove in a circular needle shank against bending forces in the eye direction as well as transverse thereto low-lying blocking surfaces, is for the present invention also of independent importance that thereby Basically, even with a relation to a circular needle shaft cross section reduced cross-section needle shaft compensation of a As a result, depending on the shape possible reduction in stiffness can be achieved. However, since a significant reduction in stiffness is just avoidable by the elliptical or elliptical flattening of the needle shank cross section according to the invention, it is even possible to achieve a shank stiffness even exceeding the comparative value of a circular profiled needle by one (or more) suitably designed rounded thread channels.
It is further preferred that the supplementary channel has a smaller or approximately equal channel cross-section compared to the thread channel. With regard to the shaping and dimensioning, there is the possibility that the Rinnenr reason the thread grooves and / or the supplementary channel is nestled in cross section to a circular contour, wherein the diameter of the circular contour may have approximately half the length of Halbkreisfußgeraden. In a further embodiment, it can be provided that the depth of the supplementary trough is smaller or approximately equal to the depth of the thread trough. It is also preferred that the clear cross-sectional mouth width of the supplementary trough is smaller than or approximately equal to the clear cross-sectional mouth width of the thread trough. In order to support a uniform stress distribution in the needle cross section which is also suitable for high transverse stress, the side flanks of the supplementary trough and / or the thread trough in the needle cross section can run at an obtuse angle to the lateral surface of the needle shank. Concerning the notch effect, reducing, i. advantageous from when the side edges of the thread groove and / or the supplementary channel in the needle cross-section convex rounded in the lateral surface of the needle shaft.
Furthermore, in the case of a sewing machine needle having an elliptical or elliptical flattened needle shaft cross section, there is also the possibility that a frusto-conical, preferably conical transition is formed between the shaft and the cross-sectionally larger piston, the shaft being in the longitudinal section between the transition and the flute if necessary, has a substantially uniform cross-section or a uniform basic shape thereof as far as the needle tip region. Thus, even with a sewing machine needle with an inventive flattened shaft cross-section; Preferably, in conjunction with a yarn thread increasing the needle stiffness and, if necessary, supplementary channel, a separate, adjoining the transition and reinforced in a conventional manner shaft portion can be dispensed with.
