Definitions
- the invention relates to a display panel, in particular for use in a motor vehicle.
- a display panel which has a light guide plate made of a transparent or diffusely transparent plastic, on which a light-translucent plastic film is applied on the observer side.
- This plastic film can have a translucent color coating, which covers the light guide plate over the entire surface or only in partial areas, for example to represent characters and / or symbols.
- the plastic film has a light-tight cover coating with light passage openings in the form of characters and / or symbols, which is applied to the light guide plate and connected to the light guide plate.
- Such display fields have the disadvantage that the symbols or characters are visible to the observer when they are not illuminated.
- the freedom of design and layout, particularly when using the display fields for an instrument panel component on the instrument panel is limited.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of providing a display panel which can be adapted to different installation conditions and aesthetic design requirements and which enables characters, symbols and / or displays to be easily recognized.
- the display panel according to the invention has the advantage that, for example, in a non-illuminated state, a decorative surface is visible to the viewer without actually recognizing that this decorative surface is part of a display panel.
- the structure of the display panel fades out the decorative surface on the at least one layer arranged on the observer side, so that a display is clearly visible and easily recognizable in the display panel.
- the decorative surfaces are matched to one another so that, for example, compensation in transmitted light takes place and thereby a further surface and / or display is visible to the observer.
- the display can be composed in the form of signs, symbols or combinations thereof, which transmit corresponding information to the observer.
- the decor surface can be adapted to design requirements.
- the display panel according to the invention can also be used in the reverse mode of operation, so that, for example, a symbol and / or sign is visible in the non-transmitted light mode, whereas in the transmitted light mode a decorative surface adapted to the surroundings or adjacent areas or a surface deliberately raised therefrom becomes visible.
- the further layer comprises a decorative surface which corresponds to a negative decorative surface of the decorative surface provided on the observer side.
- This negative decorative surface has the reciprocal contrasts to the decorative surface of the layer arranged on the observer side. This allows the observer to neutralize the decorative surface when illuminated, so that further signs and / or symbols become visible to the observer. Likewise, the reverse function is given that characters or symbols are neutralized when the display panel is illuminated.
- the intermediate layer is preferably designed as a semi-transparent mirror or as a mirror film. This makes it possible for the observer not to see the further layer, which has a decorative surface compensating the decorative surface of the layer arranged on the observer side, or a negative decorative surface, and for the observer to be able to see the decorative surface of the layer arranged on the observer side when not illuminated.
- the intermediate layer is designed as a translucent carrier with a tint, which is preferably matched to the decorative surface of the further layer in the degree of tint, so that the tint in the non-illuminated state is the decorative surface hides the other layer.
- a simple and alternative configuration of the intermediate layer can be provided depending on the decorative surface to be hidden.
- the intermediate layer can also be designed such that the intermediate layer becomes translucent when a voltage is applied.
- the display can thus be provided as a fixed sign and / or symbol.
- a light source for transmitted light operation is not required.
- the intermediate layer is formed by switchable crystal elements or the like. This embodiment can also be designed such that the intermediate layer becomes reflective when the voltage is applied.
- the at least one intermediate layer and / or the at least one further layer advantageously have filter functions which are linked to the filter function of the compensating decorative surface.
- the further filter functions can be part of the filter functions in order to compensate for the decorative surface of the layer arranged on the observer side or to fulfill additional filter functions.
- the intermediate layer is designed as a carrier, onto which the layer arranged on the observer side and / or the further layers pointing to the light source or display are printed, glued, evaporated, laminated on and / or applied by a coating.
- a coating for example, for the formation of a decorative surface by a burl wood or a wooden surface, it is provided that a thin wooden surface layer or an imitation of a wooden surface layer is laminated onto the carrier.
- the decorative surface can also be provided on the intermediate layer by means of a carrier, for example a plastic film. The same applies to the additional layer that has the compensating decorative surface.
- the intermediate layer is preferably designed as a plastic film.
- the layer arranged on the observer side and further layer can likewise be formed from a plastic film, so that a display field is formed from a composite consisting of several layers.
- the intermediate layer and also each further layer can be formed individually or all together by a plexiglass or glass carrier, which have the individual coatings or surfaces according to their functions.
- the intermediate layer, the layer arranged on the observer side and the further layer can also be arranged spaced apart from one another. The mapping laws are to be considered when forming the lower layer.
- the compensating decorative surface is provided on the light source.
- the filter function of the compensating surface is adapted to the size and shape of the light source, so that, in analogy to a parallel arrangement of the compensating decorative surface to the decorative surface arranged on the observer side, a filter function or masking and neutralization is possible.
- the decorative surface can be designed in an application-specific manner by signs, symbols, displays or as an ornament, design, surface, refined or structured surface or the like.
- FIG. 1 schematically shows a structure of a display panel 11 which comprises a layer 12 arranged on the observer side, an intermediate layer 14 and a further layer 17 arranged between the intermediate layer 14 and a light source 16.
- This display field 11 is formed, for example, by a composite of three plastic films, each of which forms a layer 12, 14 and 17.
- the layer 12 has a decorative surface 21 in the form of a sign or symbol, which is designed, for example, in color.
- the decorative surface 21 is preferably printed or laminated on.
- the intermediate layer 14 arranged under the layer 12 is designed as a half mirror or mirror film, which makes the layer 12 or the decorative surface 21 visible to the viewer, but hides the further layer 17 underneath.
- This further layer 17 has a decorative surface 23, which is designed as a negative decorative surface to the decorative surface 21.
- This decorative surface 23 can be produced by reverse exposure of the decorative surface 21.
- the decorative surface 23 is preferably applied to the further layer 17 by a printing technique.
- the symbol or sign is omitted, as can be seen from FIG. 1. In the non-illuminated state, the symbol on layer 12 is thus visible to the observer. As soon as the light source 16 is switched on, the decorative surface 21 is compensated for, that is to say the symbol is hidden. In the present case, the decorative surface 23 of the further layer 17 is visible to the observer due to the semi-permeable intermediate layer 14.
- Additional color changes or structures can be made visible to the observer in transmitted light mode by superimposing further filter functions, which are carried out, for example, through the intermediate layer 14 or the further layer 17, the symbol or the decorative surface 21 being concealed at the same time.
- the layer 12 arranged on the observer side can additionally have an anti-reflective coating and / or a scratch-resistant coating.
- the layers 12, 17 have a decorative surface that is at least partially translucent.
- FIG. 1 An alternative embodiment of the display panel 11 is shown in FIG.
- the display panel 11 according to FIG. 2 is operated in the opposite manner to that in FIG. 1.
- the decorative surface 21 of the layer 12 is visible.
- This can be, for example, a marbled or painted surface, which, like other surface structures, is adapted to the environment or the design requirements of the adjacent areas.
- the light source 16 is designed, for example, as a display in the form of a warning triangle.
- the display panel is put into operation and the display is switched on.
- the display panel 11 compensates for the decorative surface 21 of the layer 12 by means of the negative decorative surface 23 and hides it. At the same time, the ad becomes visible. Additional symbols, characters or information can also be provided.
- This embodiment in particular when used in a motor vehicle, has the advantage that the instruments and displays that are not in use are hidden.
- the information provided to the driver can be reduced to a minimum.
- a signal is already output to the driver by switching on the display panel.
- it receives the information provided by the display field.
- the light source 16 can be designed as a light bulb, LED, laser light, display, vacuum fluorescent display or the like.
- a screen of a navigation system can be provided behind the display field, which is only visible in transmitted light mode. It can also be provided that the light source 16 is provided decentrally to the display panel 11 and brightness or light signals are led to the display panel 11 via light guide elements.
- the display panel 11 can be provided as a composite element for a multi-component plastic injection molded part.
- the layers 12, 14, 17 can also be provided at least individually as components for a multi-component plastic injection molded part.
- the design of the display panel according to the invention can be used in motor vehicles, for example as a parking aid, as footwell or interior lighting, as a display in an instrument panel component, as a signal element for a hazard warning system.
- display fields can be used both in housing covers, control panels, device covers for private and industrial areas.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a display panel, in particular for use in a motor vehicle.
From EP 0 703 051 B1 a display panel has become known which has a light guide plate made of a transparent or diffusely transparent plastic, on which a light-translucent plastic film is applied on the observer side. This plastic film can have a translucent color coating, which covers the light guide plate over the entire surface or only in partial areas, for example to represent characters and / or symbols. Alternatively, it is also known that the plastic film has a light-tight cover coating with light passage openings in the form of characters and / or symbols, which is applied to the light guide plate and connected to the light guide plate.
When this display field is illuminated, the areas covered by the color coating are blackened, so that the characters and / or symbols become visible as dark numbers on a light background. When using a light-tight cover coating with light passage openings, the signs and / or symbols become bright and visible when examined.
Such display fields have the disadvantage that the symbols or characters are visible to the observer when they are not illuminated. In addition, the freedom of design and layout, particularly when using the display fields for an instrument panel component on the instrument panel, is limited. In addition, when using light-tight cover coatings with only partially transparent light passage openings, it is difficult to recognize the characters and / or symbols.
The invention is therefore based on the object of providing a display panel which can be adapted to different installation conditions and aesthetic design requirements and which enables characters, symbols and / or displays to be easily recognized.
This object is solved by the features of claim 1. Further advantageous refinements and developments are specified in the further claims.
The display panel according to the invention has the advantage that, for example, in a non-illuminated state, a decorative surface is visible to the viewer without actually recognizing that this decorative surface is part of a display panel. In transmitted light operation, the structure of the display panel fades out the decorative surface on the at least one layer arranged on the observer side, so that a display is clearly visible and easily recognizable in the display panel. The decorative surfaces are matched to one another so that, for example, compensation in transmitted light takes place and thereby a further surface and / or display is visible to the observer. The display can be composed in the form of signs, symbols or combinations thereof, which transmit corresponding information to the observer. The decor surface can be adapted to design requirements.
The display panel according to the invention can also be used in the reverse mode of operation, so that, for example, a symbol and / or sign is visible in the non-transmitted light mode, whereas in the transmitted light mode a decorative surface adapted to the surroundings or adjacent areas or a surface deliberately raised therefrom becomes visible.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the further layer comprises a decorative surface which corresponds to a negative decorative surface of the decorative surface provided on the observer side. This negative decorative surface has the reciprocal contrasts to the decorative surface of the layer arranged on the observer side. This allows the observer to neutralize the decorative surface when illuminated, so that further signs and / or symbols become visible to the observer. Likewise, the reverse function is given that characters or symbols are neutralized when the display panel is illuminated.
The intermediate layer is preferably designed as a semi-transparent mirror or as a mirror film. This makes it possible for the observer not to see the further layer, which has a decorative surface compensating the decorative surface of the layer arranged on the observer side, or a negative decorative surface, and for the observer to be able to see the decorative surface of the layer arranged on the observer side when not illuminated.
Alternatively, it is provided that the intermediate layer is designed as a translucent carrier with a tint, which is preferably matched to the decorative surface of the further layer in the degree of tint, so that the tint in the non-illuminated state is the decorative surface hides the other layer. As a result, depending on the decorative surface to be hidden, a simple and alternative configuration of the intermediate layer can be provided.
According to an alternative embodiment, the intermediate layer can also be designed such that the intermediate layer becomes translucent when a voltage is applied. The display can thus be provided as a fixed sign and / or symbol. A light source for transmitted light operation is not required. The intermediate layer is formed by switchable crystal elements or the like. This embodiment can also be designed such that the intermediate layer becomes reflective when the voltage is applied.
The at least one intermediate layer and / or the at least one further layer advantageously have filter functions which are linked to the filter function of the compensating decorative surface. This creates a variety of design options. For example, a certain color or a certain color spectrum or shape spectrum is thereby filtered out, as a result of which additional effects or modes of action can be achieved. Certain shapes can also be created or at least influenced for the display. The further filter functions can be part of the filter functions in order to compensate for the decorative surface of the layer arranged on the observer side or to fulfill additional filter functions.
According to a preferred embodiment, the intermediate layer is designed as a carrier, onto which the layer arranged on the observer side and / or the further layers pointing to the light source or display are printed, glued, evaporated, laminated on and / or applied by a coating. For example, for the formation of a decorative surface by a burl wood or a wooden surface, it is provided that a thin wooden surface layer or an imitation of a wooden surface layer is laminated onto the carrier. The decorative surface can also be provided on the intermediate layer by means of a carrier, for example a plastic film. The same applies to the additional layer that has the compensating decorative surface.
In a further embodiment, the intermediate layer is preferably designed as a plastic film. The layer arranged on the observer side and further layer can likewise be formed from a plastic film, so that a display field is formed from a composite consisting of several layers. Alternatively, the intermediate layer and also each further layer can be formed individually or all together by a plexiglass or glass carrier, which have the individual coatings or surfaces according to their functions. The intermediate layer, the layer arranged on the observer side and the further layer can also be arranged spaced apart from one another. The mapping laws are to be considered when forming the lower layer.
According to an alternative embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the compensating decorative surface is provided on the light source. The filter function of the compensating surface is adapted to the size and shape of the light source, so that, in analogy to a parallel arrangement of the compensating decorative surface to the decorative surface arranged on the observer side, a filter function or masking and neutralization is possible.
The decorative surface can be designed in an application-specific manner by signs, symbols, displays or as an ornament, design, surface, refined or structured surface or the like.
Additional color changes or structures can be made visible to the observer in transmitted light mode by superimposing further filter functions, which are carried out, for example, through the
The
An alternative embodiment of the
This embodiment, in particular when used in a motor vehicle, has the advantage that the instruments and displays that are not in use are hidden. The information provided to the driver can be reduced to a minimum. As soon as further information is to be output to the observer or driver, a signal is already output to the driver by switching on the display panel. In addition, it receives the information provided by the display field.
The
The
The design of the display panel according to the invention can be used in motor vehicles, for example as a parking aid, as footwell or interior lighting, as a display in an instrument panel component, as a signal element for a hazard warning system. In analogy to this, such display fields can be used both in housing covers, control panels, device covers for private and industrial areas.
