Definitions

  • the present invention relates to applicators intended for applying a product to keratinous fibers, in particular eyelashes or eyebrows, and more particularly, but not exclusively, mascara brushes.
  • Conventional mascara brushes comprise a core formed by two twisted metal strands, defining turns between which are taken the bristles of the brush.
  • a disadvantage of these brushes is that they may have a turn effect, that is to say that the ends of the bristles extend in a substantially helical distribution. Such a distribution of the hairs may interfere to a certain extent the penetration of the eyelashes between the bristles of the brush.
  • it may be desirable to promote the penetration of the eyelashes between the bristles so as to be able to load them with a relatively large amount of product as well as to spread the product on the eyelashes and lengthen or bend them.
  • No. 5,657,778 discloses a mascara brush comprising V-shaped transverse bristles, which can be abraded at their free end.
  • bristles having particular cross-sections so as to obtain, when tightening the bristles by the strands of the core, a more even distribution of the bristles over the envelope surface of the brush.
  • the homogenization extends to the entire brush.
  • the use of bristles having particular cross sections is likely to limit the materials that can be used to make the bristles or forms of hair that can be used.
  • a brush according to the invention can have a distribution of the bristles different from that of conventional brushes, thanks to the presence of deformed bristles, while being able to be manufactured with a twisted core and ordinary bristles if desired.
  • the presence of the deformed hairs may make it possible to make the distribution of the ends of the bristles more homogeneous by creating a clutter, and in particular to make it possible to attenuate the twisting effect associated with the use of a twisted core.
  • the brush can also further charge the eyelashes.
  • the soul can be twisted to the left, that is to say that the branches of the soul form turns which, when the brush is observed being vertical with its end fixed in the stem, that is to say say its proximal end, located at the bottom and its free end, that is to say the distal end, located at the top, rise from left to right.
  • the invention also applies to brushes having a twisted core on the right.
  • the portion of the brush having deformed bristles may correspond, at the limit, to the entire brush. This portion may also not correspond to the entire brush and for example correspond only to a portion extending from one end of the brush on for example less than half the length thereof and / or particular regions of the brush, these regions defining for example ridges or notches.
  • the brush may comprise at least 5% of its bristles which are deformed, even at least 20 or 30% or more than 50%, better at least 70%, for example at least 80%, and substantially all the bristles of the brush may be deformed, possibly.
  • the brush may comprise for example between 5 and 80 hairs per turn, and better between 10 and 50 hairs per turn.
  • the number of hairs per turn corresponds to the number of hair ends counted by a fixed observer during a rotation of 180 ° of the brush around his soul.
  • the bristles may be of synthetic or natural material, being made for example in a thermoplastic material.
  • the bristles may for example be stretchable.
  • the section of the bristles is preferably solid and may be circular or not.
  • the brush may however have at least one hair which is hollow.
  • the bristles may optionally be coated with a flocking.
  • the bristles may have a capillary groove and have a cross-sectional shape of a bean. The hairs can still be hollow.
  • the bristles may also comprise a filler, for example a magnetic compound, bacteriostatic or moisture absorber, or a compound for creating on the surface of the hair roughness or to promote the sliding of the eyelashes on the bristles.
  • a filler for example a magnetic compound, bacteriostatic or moisture absorber, or a compound for creating on the surface of the hair roughness or to promote the sliding of the eyelashes on the bristles.
  • the diameter of the bristles may be for example between 5/100 mm and 40/100 mm.
  • diameter of a hair is meant the diameter of the circle circumscribed to the largest cross section of the hair, when it is not circular.
  • the length of the bristles from the core to the free end may be for example between 1 and 7 mm, in particular between 2 and 5 mm.
  • the brush may comprise a mixture of bristles having different lengths, or even different natures.
  • the brush comprises a mixture of bristles having different lengths, only for example the bristles of a certain length may be deformed.
  • the envelope surface of the brush may have various shapes and in particular circular, oval, prismatic or other cross sections, with one or more notches or notches.
  • the core may or may not be centered in a cross-section of the envelope surface.
  • the brush may comprise at least one ridge or one notch.
  • the majority of deformed bristles of the brush, or substantially all deformed bristles of the brush, may be bristles belonging to at least one ridge or defining at least one notch.
  • the cross section of the envelope surface may be constant or not over at least a portion of the length of the brush, and the brush may for example have a cross section passing through an extremum between its two axial ends, this extremum being for example a maximum or a minimum.
  • the brush can thus have, in side view, a general shape of hourglass or rugby ball.
  • the core may be rectilinear or not, in particular be curved, with a curvature distributed over its entire length or located only in a region close to that used for fixing the brush on a rod of an applicator.
  • the brush may, if necessary, be curved around at least two non-coplanar axes.
  • the invention also relates to a packaging device and application comprising such a brush.
  • Such a device may comprise a container and a wiper member for squeezing the brush as it leaves the container.
  • the brush may be attached to the end of a rod provided at its opposite end with a gripping member also constituting a closure member of the container.
  • the treatment member may be at room temperature so as to mechanically deform the cold bristles.
  • Deformed hairs may show evidence of material removal or crushing.
  • the treatment can have many effects on the brush that is treated.
  • the treatment makes it possible to destructure the brush by modifying the orientations of the bristles and in particular to attenuate the effect of turn in the case where the brush which is treated has a helical distribution of the free ends of the bristles.
  • the deformed bristles may also have more flexibility and cushioning effect, because these hairs can bend more easily, having been beaten at least one point of their length, which could create a kind of hinge. This may make it possible to use larger or stiffer hairs.
  • the bristles that are treated lose their radial orientation and may assume an oblique orientation relative to the longitudinal axis of the brush core which may facilitate the penetration of the eyelashes between the bristles of the brush.
  • Another advantage of the method is to allow the use of a brush which initially has a relatively large spacing between the tufts of bristles which are clamped between the turns, since at the end of the treatment the spacing between the ends of the bristles is reduced by changing the orientation of the hairs.
  • the starting brush may be any and including or not comprise a twisted core.
  • the bristles may in particular be fixed by stapling or stamping on the core, and it may be overmolded on the bristles.
  • the aforementioned relative displacement can be caused at least by a rotation drive of the brush about its axis and / or by at least a rotational drive of the treatment member about an axis of rotation.
  • Both the brush and the treatment member can be rotated.
  • the treatment member may have a surface adapted to come into contact with the bristles of the brush which extends for example over a length greater than or equal to half the length of the portion of the brush carrying the bristles.
  • the relative displacement and the respective positions of the brush and the treatment member may be chosen such that at the end of the treatment only part of the bristles of the brush has come into contact with the treatment member.
  • the treatment may generate elbows on at least a portion of the bristles and the elbows thus formed may all be spaced a predetermined distance from the core. At least a portion of the treated bristles may be treated at a point that is closer to the core than their free end.
  • the brush may have at least two regions of its circumference defined by bristles of different lengths, and the region with the largest bristles may be treated without treating the region with the shortest bristles.
  • the aforementioned elbows in one embodiment of the invention among others, may be at a distance from the core greater than the length of the shortest hairs.
  • the surface state of the treatment member may be chosen depending on the treatment that is desired.
  • the surface can be smooth or slightly rough, for example.
  • the surface condition will be chosen so as not to completely cut the bristles.
  • the treatment member may thus be devoid of cutting edge.
  • the bristles of the brush may have, before treatment, a constant section, for example circular or bean-shaped.
  • the bristles may have a capillary groove.
  • the brush that is treated may be a twisted core brush, having between 5 and 80 bristles per turn, preferably between 10 and 50 bristles per turn.
  • the brush may have, before treatment, a turn effect and no longer have this turn effect after treatment.
  • the relative movement between the bristles of the brush and the treatment member may be a rotational movement of the brush about its longitudinal axis in the counterclockwise direction, when the brush is observed along its longitudinal axis from the right to the left and that the stem is on the left.
  • the machine may be capable of causing material removal, stretching of material, or crushing at least one point of the length of the bristles.
  • the drive means may for example comprise at least one motor for rotating the brush about its axis and / or driving the treatment member in rotation, and if necessary to drive in axial displacement the brush and / or the treatment organ.
  • the drive means may further enable the brush to be moved closer to or away from the treatment member.
  • the brush and the treatment member may be driven simultaneously in rotation, in the same direction or in opposite directions, around parallel axes or not.
  • the relative movements of the brush and the treatment member can be controlled by a digital controller.
  • the processing member may be rotated at a rotational speed of between 1500 and 6000 rpm, for example.
  • the packaging and application device 1 shown in FIG. 1 comprises a container 2 containing a product P to be applied to the eyelashes or eyebrows, for example example of the mascara, and an applicator 3 having a rod 4 of longitudinal axis X, provided at one end 4a of a brush 5 and at the opposite end of a gripping member 6 also serving to close the container 2.
  • the latter comprises a neck 7 which is threaded externally, so as to allow screwing of the gripping member 6.
  • a wiper member 8 is fixed inside the neck 7 to dewater the rod 4 and the brush 5 at their outlet from the container.

  • a deformed hair 12 may comprise for example two rectilinear portions, namely a proximal portion 12a connected to the core and a distal portion 12b, the two portions 12a and 12b being joined by a bend 12c.
  • the bend 12c is due to a deformation of the cross section of the pile 12, and the bend 12c can behave as a kind of hinge.
  • the distal portions 12b may extend in random directions.
  • At least two deformed bristles 12 can be taken between two adjacent turns 10a and 10b of the core 10, defining the pitch p of the core 10, as can be seen in FIG.
  • a processing member 20 shown schematically in FIG. 3 is used, this treatment member 20 being arranged to beat the bristles 11 of the brush in order to locally deform their section. transverse in at least one point of their length.
  • the processing member 20 may for example comprise at least one blade 21, for example three blades 21 in the case of Figure 3, these blades 21 being rotated about an axis which is in the example of Figure 3 parallel to the longitudinal axis of the brush.
