Description

The present invention relates to applicators intended for applying a product to keratinous fibers, in particular eyelashes or eyebrows, and more particularly, but not exclusively, mascara brushes.

A disadvantage of these brushes is that they may have a turn effect, that is to say that the ends of the bristles extend in a substantially helical distribution. Such a distribution of the hairs may interfere to a certain extent the penetration of the eyelashes between the bristles of the brush. However, it may be desirable to promote the penetration of the eyelashes between the bristles so as to be able to load them with a relatively large amount of product as well as to spread the product on the eyelashes and lengthen or bend them.

No. 5,657,778 discloses a mascara brush comprising V-shaped transverse bristles, which can be abraded at their free end.

It is known to mechanically treat the bristles of a brush to abrade their ends and form forks. However, such treatment is limited to the end of the hairs and does not allow to change their distribution.

It is also known to use bristles having particular cross-sections so as to obtain, when tightening the bristles by the strands of the core, a more even distribution of the bristles over the envelope surface of the brush. However, the homogenization extends to the entire brush. However, it may be desirable to obtain new makeup effects that the homogenization is limited to only portions of the brush, for example notches or ridges thereof. In addition, the use of bristles having particular cross sections is likely to limit the materials that can be used to make the bristles or forms of hair that can be used.

There is a need to benefit from a brush having a new hair distribution.

There is also a need to benefit from such a brush without unduly complicating its manufacture.

The subject of the invention is, according to one of its aspects among others, a brush for applying a product to keratin fibers, comprising:
  • a twisted core defining turns
  • bristles extending from the core and caught between the turns thereof, this brush being characterized by the fact that it comprises at least two deformed bristles taken between two adjacent turns, these deformed hairs having a removal or stretching or crushing at least one point of their length and extending non-radially outwardly therefrom.

A brush according to the invention can have a distribution of the bristles different from that of conventional brushes, thanks to the presence of deformed bristles, while being able to be manufactured with a twisted core and ordinary bristles if desired.

The presence of the deformed hairs may make it possible to make the distribution of the ends of the bristles more homogeneous by creating a clutter, and in particular to make it possible to attenuate the twisting effect associated with the use of a twisted core. The brush can also further charge the eyelashes.

The soul can be twisted to the left, that is to say that the branches of the soul form turns which, when the brush is observed being vertical with its end fixed in the stem, that is to say say its proximal end, located at the bottom and its free end, that is to say the distal end, located at the top, rise from left to right. The invention also applies to brushes having a twisted core on the right.

At the deformed section, material removal or crushing can affect only one side of the pile.

The portion of the brush having deformed bristles may correspond, at the limit, to the entire brush. This portion may also not correspond to the entire brush and for example correspond only to a portion extending from one end of the brush on for example less than half the length thereof and / or particular regions of the brush, these regions defining for example ridges or notches.

The brush may comprise at least 5% of its bristles which are deformed, even at least 20 or 30% or more than 50%, better at least 70%, for example at least 80%, and substantially all the bristles of the brush may be deformed, possibly.

The brush may comprise for example between 5 and 80 hairs per turn, and better between 10 and 50 hairs per turn. The number of hairs per turn corresponds to the number of hair ends counted by a fixed observer during a rotation of 180 ° of the brush around his soul.

The bristles may be of synthetic or natural material, being made for example in a thermoplastic material.

Les poils peuvent par exemple être étirables. The bristles may for example be stretchable.

The section of the bristles is preferably solid and may be circular or not. The brush may however have at least one hair which is hollow. The bristles may optionally be coated with a flocking. The bristles may have a capillary groove and have a cross-sectional shape of a bean. The hairs can still be hollow.

The bristles may also comprise a filler, for example a magnetic compound, bacteriostatic or moisture absorber, or a compound for creating on the surface of the hair roughness or to promote the sliding of the eyelashes on the bristles.

The diameter of the bristles may be for example between 5/100 mm and 40/100 mm. By diameter of a hair is meant the diameter of the circle circumscribed to the largest cross section of the hair, when it is not circular.

The length of the bristles from the core to the free end may be for example between 1 and 7 mm, in particular between 2 and 5 mm.

The brush may comprise a mixture of bristles having different lengths, or even different natures.

When the brush comprises a mixture of bristles having different lengths, only for example the bristles of a certain length may be deformed.

The envelope surface of the brush may have various shapes and in particular circular, oval, prismatic or other cross sections, with one or more notches or notches.

The core may or may not be centered in a cross-section of the envelope surface.

The brush may comprise at least one ridge or one notch. The majority of deformed bristles of the brush, or substantially all deformed bristles of the brush, may be bristles belonging to at least one ridge or defining at least one notch.

The cross section of the envelope surface may be constant or not over at least a portion of the length of the brush, and the brush may for example have a cross section passing through an extremum between its two axial ends, this extremum being for example a maximum or a minimum. The brush can thus have, in side view, a general shape of hourglass or rugby ball.

The core may be rectilinear or not, in particular be curved, with a curvature distributed over its entire length or located only in a region close to that used for fixing the brush on a rod of an applicator.

The brush may, if necessary, be curved around at least two non-coplanar axes.

The invention also relates to a packaging device and application comprising such a brush.

Such a device may comprise a container and a wiper member for squeezing the brush as it leaves the container.

The brush may be attached to the end of a rod provided at its opposite end with a gripping member also constituting a closure member of the container.

The invention further relates, in another of its aspects, to a brush for applying a product to keratin fibers, comprising:
  • bristles extending from a core, this brush being characterized by the fact that it comprises bristles having undergone deformation of their section in at least one point of their length, this deformation being limited to one side of the hair only; in other words, the deformation does not extend to the entire circumference of the hair.

The invention further relates, independently or in combination with the foregoing, to a brush for applying a product to keratin fibers, comprising:
  • a twisted core defining turns, and
  • bristles extending from the twisted core, the bristles being caught between the turns of the twisted core,
the bristles having at least two deformed bristles caught between two adjacent turns of the twisted core, each of the two deformed bristles having a length, said at least two deformed bristles having at least one point of their length:
  • a removal of material in at least this point, or
  • a stretch of material in at least this point, or
  • a crush in at least this point, and
each of said at least two deformed bristles extending outwardly from said point non-radially with respect to the twisted core.

The invention further relates, independently or in combination with the above, to a method of manufacturing a brush for applying a product to keratinous fibers, the process comprising:
  • provide an initial brush comprising:
    • a twisted core defining turns, and
    • bristles extending from the twisted core, the bristles being caught between the turns of the twisted core, and
  • causing relative movement relative to one another between at least one treatment member and the bristles of the initial brush so that said at least one treatment member strikes at least some of the bristles and substantially permanently modifies the orientations of at least a portion of said bristles so as to form at least two deformed bristles taken between two adjacent turns of the twisted core, each of said at least two deformed bristles having a length,
each of said at least two deformed bristles having at least one point of its length:
  • a removal of material in at least this point, or
  • a stretch of material in at least this point, or
  • a crush in at least this point, and
each of said at least two deformed bristles extending outwardly from said point in a non-radial manner with respect to the twisted core.

Another subject of the invention, according to another of its aspects, is a method of manufacturing a brush for applying a product to the keratinous fibers, in particular the eyelashes or the eyebrows, comprising the following step:
  • cause relative movement between at least one treatment member and bristles of the brush, so that the treatment member strikes bristles of the brush and permanently modifies the orientations of at least a portion of the bristles; the brush.

In such a method, the treatment member may be at room temperature so as to mechanically deform the cold bristles.

Deformed hairs may show evidence of material removal or crushing.

The treatment can have many effects on the brush that is treated.

Firstly, the treatment makes it possible to destructure the brush by modifying the orientations of the bristles and in particular to attenuate the effect of turn in the case where the brush which is treated has a helical distribution of the free ends of the bristles.

The deformed bristles may also have more flexibility and cushioning effect, because these hairs can bend more easily, having been beaten at least one point of their length, which could create a kind of hinge. This may make it possible to use larger or stiffer hairs.

The bristles that are treated lose their radial orientation and may assume an oblique orientation relative to the longitudinal axis of the brush core which may facilitate the penetration of the eyelashes between the bristles of the brush.

Another advantage of the method is to allow the use of a brush which initially has a relatively large spacing between the tufts of bristles which are clamped between the turns, since at the end of the treatment the spacing between the ends of the bristles is reduced by changing the orientation of the hairs.

In such a method, the starting brush may be any and including or not comprise a twisted core.

The bristles may in particular be fixed by stapling or stamping on the core, and it may be overmolded on the bristles.

The aforementioned relative displacement can be caused at least by a rotation drive of the brush about its axis and / or by at least a rotational drive of the treatment member about an axis of rotation.

Both the brush and the treatment member can be rotated.

The treatment member may have a surface adapted to come into contact with the bristles of the brush which extends for example over a length greater than or equal to half the length of the portion of the brush carrying the bristles.

The relative displacement and the respective positions of the brush and the treatment member may be chosen such that at the end of the treatment only part of the bristles of the brush has come into contact with the treatment member.

The treatment may generate elbows on at least a portion of the bristles and the elbows thus formed may all be spaced a predetermined distance from the core. At least a portion of the treated bristles may be treated at a point that is closer to the core than their free end.

Only a portion of the circumference of the brush can be processed.

The brush may have at least two regions of its circumference defined by bristles of different lengths, and the region with the largest bristles may be treated without treating the region with the shortest bristles.

The aforementioned elbows, in one embodiment of the invention among others, may be at a distance from the core greater than the length of the shortest hairs.

The surface state of the treatment member may be chosen depending on the treatment that is desired. The surface can be smooth or slightly rough, for example. The surface condition will be chosen so as not to completely cut the bristles. The treatment member may thus be devoid of cutting edge.

The bristles of the brush may have, before treatment, a constant section, for example circular or bean-shaped. The bristles may have a capillary groove.

The brush that is treated may be a twisted core brush, having between 5 and 80 bristles per turn, preferably between 10 and 50 bristles per turn.

The brush may have, before treatment, a turn effect and no longer have this turn effect after treatment.

In the case where the brush is twisted to the left, the relative movement between the bristles of the brush and the treatment member may be a rotational movement of the brush about its longitudinal axis in the counterclockwise direction, when the brush is observed along its longitudinal axis from the right to the left and that the stem is on the left.

Another subject of the invention, according to another of its aspects, is a machine for manufacturing a brush for applying a product to keratinous fibers, this machine being able to be used for carrying out the method defined above. , this machine comprising:
  • a support arranged to support at least one brush,
  • a treatment member of at least this brush, and
  • means for producing relative movement of the support and the treatment member to beat bristles of the brush with the treatment member and permanently alter the orientations of at least a portion of the bristles.

The machine may be capable of causing material removal, stretching of material, or crushing at least one point of the length of the bristles.

The drive means may for example comprise at least one motor for rotating the brush about its axis and / or driving the treatment member in rotation, and if necessary to drive in axial displacement the brush and / or the treatment organ. The drive means may further enable the brush to be moved closer to or away from the treatment member. The brush and the treatment member may be driven simultaneously in rotation, in the same direction or in opposite directions, around parallel axes or not. The relative movements of the brush and the treatment member can be controlled by a digital controller. The processing member may be rotated at a rotational speed of between 1500 and 6000 rpm, for example.

The subject of the invention is, independently or in combination with the foregoing, a machine for manufacturing a brush for applying a product to keratinous fibers, this machine comprising:

  • a removal of material in at least one point of the length of at least some of the bristles, or

Ce dernier comporte un col 7 qui est fileté extérieurement, de façon à permettre le vissage de l'organe de préhension 6.The packaging and application device 1 shown in FIG. 1 comprises a container 2 containing a product P to be applied to the eyelashes or eyebrows, for example example of the mascara, and an applicator 3 having a rod 4 of longitudinal axis X, provided at one end 4a of a brush 5 and at the opposite end of a gripping member 6 also serving to close the container 2. The latter comprises a neck 7 which is threaded externally, so as to allow screwing of the gripping member 6.

A wiper member 8 is fixed inside the neck 7 to dewater the rod 4 and the brush 5 at their outlet from the container. This wiper member 8 comprises a flexible lip 9 defining a circular orifice whose diameter corresponds substantially to that of the rod 4.

Of course, the invention is not limited to the use of a particular wiper member and other wiping members may be used, for example wiping members comprising a block of foam and / or defining one or more slots, flocked or not.

In the example illustrated, the rod 4 is rectilinear but it could be curved without departing from the scope of the present invention.

In addition, the rod 4 is shown as being fixed relative to the gripping member 6, but it could be movable relative to the latter, for example by means of an articulated connection, in particular a ball joint.

The brush 5 comprises in the example in question a core 10 conventionally formed by two twisted metal strands, this core 10 being fixed at one end in a housing of the rod 4, for example being forcibly inserted in this housing.

The brush 5 also comprises bristles 11 which are clamped between the twisted strands of the core 10, as can be seen in FIG. 2.

Conformément à l'invention, la brosse 5 comporte des poils déformés 12.According to the invention, the brush 5 comprises deformed bristles 12.

A deformed hair 12 may comprise for example two rectilinear portions, namely a proximal portion 12a connected to the core and a distal portion 12b, the two portions 12a and 12b being joined by a bend 12c.

The bend 12c is due to a deformation of the cross section of the pile 12, and the bend 12c can behave as a kind of hinge.

The distal portions 12b may extend in random directions.

At least two deformed bristles 12 can be taken between two adjacent turns 10a and 10b of the core 10, defining the pitch p of the core 10, as can be seen in FIG.

To produce a brush with deformed bristles 12, according to the invention a processing member 20 shown schematically in FIG. 3 is used, this treatment member 20 being arranged to beat the bristles 11 of the brush in order to locally deform their section. transverse in at least one point of their length.

The processing member 20 may for example comprise at least one blade 21, for example three blades 21 in the case of Figure 3, these blades 21 being rotated about an axis which is in the example of Figure 3 parallel to the longitudinal axis of the brush.

By striking the bristles 11 of the brush, the blades 21 generate deformed bristles 12.

By choosing the distance between the axis of the brush 5 and that of the treatment member 20, the bristles 11 of the brush can be treated so that the elbows 12c are at a predefined distance from the core.

Depending on the speed with which the shock between the treatment unit 20 and the bristles 11 takes place, it is possible to damage the bristles more or less strongly and to obtain a greater or lesser number of deformed bristles 12. The speed of the impact is, however, sufficiently weak not to cut all the hair.

If the bristles are beaten very close to the core, the orientation of the bristles can be modified to change them from a radial orientation shown in dashed lines in FIG. 4 to an orientation extending obliquely with respect to the longitudinal axis of the core, for example towards the proximal end or towards the distal end of the brush.

In the examples of FIGS. 5 to 7, the bristles of the brush are beaten at respectively greater and greater distances from the core.

In the example of Figure 8, the hair has been deformed at two locations along its length, which has formed two bends with respective angles α 1 and α 2 different.

The action of the treatment member 20 on a pile may result in a crushing as illustrated in FIGS. 9 to 11. It can be seen in FIG. 10 that the pile may present, at a different section, than at the level of the deformed portion. circular. We see on the Figure 11 that the material has flowed at the deformed portion, and that the deformation has occurred essentially on one side of the pile, namely that which struck the treatment member.

The action of the treatment member 20 can also result in a removal of material as illustrated in FIG. 12 or 13. In FIG. 12, the removal of material is in the form of a notch 12d formed in FIG. the hair. In Figure 13, the removal of material is in the form of a destructuration of the pile fiber, the latter having lost for example a portion 12 of its thickness, the fiber being somehow planed on a part of its length.

The action of the treatment unit can still result in a stretching of material, for example in the case where the bristles of the brush are stretchable.

In the example of FIG. 3, only the treatment member 20 is rotated, but it is not beyond the scope of the present invention when both the treatment member 20 and the brush 5 are rotated. as shown in Figures 14 and 15.

It can be seen in FIG. 14 that the brush 5 and the treatment member 20 can be counter-rotating, and in FIG. 15 that the treatment member and the brush can rotate in the same direction.

The blade (s) 21 may extend over only a portion of the length of the brush, as illustrated in FIG. 16. In this case, it is possible, if desired, to move the treatment member 20 in parallel with the treatment. the brush 5, so as to treat all or part of the length thereof. It can be seen in FIG. 16 that the rotation of the brush can be carried out using a mandrel 31 enclosing the core of the brush, which can be driven by an electric motor or the like.

In Figure 17, there is illustrated the possibility for the blade or blades 21 to extend over the entire length of the brush.

The treatment member 20 may also be rotated about an axis of rotation which is not parallel to the longitudinal axis of the brush and in particular around an axis of rotation which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. of the brush, as shown in Figure 18.

It is possible to treat with the treatment member 20 only certain regions of the brush, for example only peak areas 40 as illustrated in FIG. 19. In this case, it will be possible, for example, to keep the brush stationary and position the treatment 20 so that the blades 21 beat only the portion of the bristles 11 constituting the ridges 20.

It also can be treated by such a s predefined angular sector of the brush as shown in Figure 20.

It is still possible to treat, as illustrated in FIG. 21, only a proximal portion or a distal portion of the brush, the proximal portion being for example treated over a length of the distal portion over a length l " .

The brush may have an envelope surface, defined by the free ends of the bristles, of non-circular cross section.

A titre d'exemple, on a représenté différents exemples de sections transversales sur les figures 22 à 32.By way of example, various examples of cross sections are shown in FIGS. 22 to 32.

The brush may have, before or after the treatment by the treatment member 20, a cross section of substantially polygonal shape, as illustrated in Figures 22 to 25.

In FIG. 22 it can be seen that the brush may comprise at least a portion of its length which has a substantially triangular, or square, cross-sectional envelope surface as shown in FIG. 23, or else pentagonal as illustrated in FIG. 24, or even octagonal as shown in Figure 25.

The brush may also be made so as to present on at least a portion of its length an envelope surface of oblong cross section, as shown in FIG. 26.

The brush may also be made with at least one notch 41 over a portion of its length, as illustrated in FIGS. 27 or 28.

This notch 41 may have, if necessary, a depth that varies as one moves along the brush and / or a width that varies as one moves along the brush. The brush may include at least one notch 41 whose depth passes through a single extremum between its ends.

The brush may also be made, as illustrated in FIG. 29, with at least one substantially flat facet 42.

The brush may also be made with one or more notches, as shown in FIGS. 30 to 32.

In FIG. 30, there is shown the brush with three notches 43, in FIG. 31 with two notches 43 and in FIG. 32 with a single notch 43.

The core 10 of the brush 5 may be centered or not with respect to the envelope surface.

In Figure 33, there is shown a brush having an eccentric core.

The cross section of the brush may vary along the brush and in particular pass through an extremum, as illustrated in FIG. 34.

In this figure, it can be seen that the envelope surface of the brush can define for example two truncated cones joining at their base in a region 45 of larger diameter than the brush.

The brush may also have a soul that is not rectilinear.

In this case, when the core is straightened and made rectilinear for the purposes of observation, the brush may have as illustrated in Figure 35 a cross section passing through at least one extremum, which may be a maximum or a minimum.

The core may be curved so as for example to straighten an edge 48 of the brush, as illustrated in FIGS. 35 and 36.

The brush 5 may further comprise, as illustrated in Figure 37, a bend 49 near the distal end 4a of the rod, the portion of the core carrying the bristles may be rectilinear or curved.

Preferably, bristles having a solid cross-section are used, but the bristles may also be hollow.

Various examples of cross sections of bristles, among others, are shown in Figures 38 to 44.

The bristle shown in Figure 38 has a general bean shape, defining a capillary groove 60.

It can be seen in FIG. 40 that the bristles may comprise a flat part.

The bristles may also comprise a polygonal cross section, for example square as illustrated in FIG. 39, hexagonal as illustrated in FIG. 41 or triangular as illustrated in FIG. 42.

The bristles may also have an oblong cross-section, as shown in FIG. 43.

The bristles can be subjected to before and / or after threshing by means of the treatment member 20 in order to confer particular properties on their free end, for example in order to form a ball 61 as illustrated in FIG. forks 62 as shown in Figure 46. Such forks 62 can be obtained by bringing the ends of the bristles into contact with an abrasive member.

The bristles may be flocked as shown in Fig. 47 or have a charge of particles 63 as shown in Fig. 48.

These particles may be for example particles of a compound for imparting a microrelief on the surface of the bristles, imparting magnetic or bacteriological or other properties, including properties promoting sliding.

The bristles can be made of synthetic or natural materials, in particular synthetic materials chosen for example from polyethylene, polyamides including PA6, PA6 / 6, PA6 / 10 or PA6 / 12, PA11, in particular RILSAN®, a HYTREL® polymer. -PEBAX® and other thermoplastic polymers.

Les poils peuvent être étirables. The hairs can be stretchable.

Of course, the invention is not limited to the examples which have just been described.

In particular, the core may be made differently, for example using a double core formed of two elementary cores 10 'and 10 "twisted together, as illustrated in FIG. 49. Each elementary core 10' or 10" of this FIG. strands twisted together and gripping the hairs.

Le diamètre des brins métalliques est par exemple compris entre 0,3 et 0,9 mm.It is possible to use for making the core metal strands of circular section or not, sheathed or not. The diameter of the metal strands is for example between 0.3 and 0.9 mm.

The characteristics of the different embodiments that have just been described can be combined with one another.

Throughout the description, including the claims, the phrase "having one" should be understood as being synonymous with "having at least one", unless the opposite is specified.
