Definitions

  • the invention relates to a toothbrush.
  • the head of a toothbrush the end portion, generally distal, arranged at the free end of the handle and handle handle of the toothbrush and which carries the flexible elements of brushing, such as hairs.
  • a brush of this type is disclosed in FR-A-2,615,372.
  • This toothbrush comprises a holster in two foldable parts and a handle at the free end of which is arranged the head of the brush.
  • the handle is pivotally mounted at an articulation end of a first portion of the case about a substantially vertical axis.
  • the handle and the first portion of the holster are longitudinally aligned and the holster wraps a portion of the head leaving a notch open in a longitudinal sidewall to allow the brushing filaments to exit through the holster.
  • the handle passes from its folded position to its unfolded position, and vice versa.
  • the toothbrush also comprises a second part of the case which is articulated, about a transverse and horizontal axis, at the end of the first part of the case which is opposite to the vertical pivot axis.
  • the second part of the case covers the first part of the case and closes the notch, so that the case completely protects the flexible brushing elements in this position.
  • An advantage of this type of toothbrush resides in its gripping surface which is relatively large which facilitates its handling and improves its ergonomics during brushing.
  • this type of toothbrush is relatively complex to achieve since the brush comprises at least three distinct elements that it is necessary to assemble.
  • the articulation of the two parts of the case is delicate to achieve and fragile.
  • the second part of the case can easily be detached from the first part, either by breaking the hinge means or not disengagement, if these hinge means are made by interlocking elastic. There is a risk of losing the second part of the case or not being able to use it.
  • the user grasps the toothbrush by the holster.
  • the quality of the assembly of the articulated end of the handle in the case therefore has an important influence on the overall rigidity of the toothbrush, and therefore on the quality of the brushing.
  • the game that can appear at the connection between the handle and the case can cause discomfort during use.
  • the toothbrush has a handle which is made in one piece with the head, and which is provided, in its upper face, a longitudinal groove.
  • a pivoting longitudinal arm is pivotally mounted at one end about a transverse and horizontal axis arranged in a median area of the longitudinal groove, and is provided at its opposite longitudinal end with a protective cover.
  • the pivoting arm When the pivoting arm occupies a protective position, it extends longitudinally inside a front portion of the groove and the cover covers the brushing filaments of the brush head.
  • the pivoting arm When the pivoting arm occupies a brushing position, it extends longitudinally inside a rear portion of the groove and the protective cover extends longitudinally at the rear of the handle.
  • the toothbrush of the second document is of simpler design since it has only two parts.
  • this toothbrush can be used without the articulated arm since it does not form a gripping surface with the rest of the handle.
  • the grip surface of the toothbrush during brushing is relatively small, compared to the toothbrush of the first document. This reduced gripping surface is disadvantageous, especially when the user wishes to perform a scrubbing said "roll".
  • the user prints with a toothbrush a movement in which the longitudinal axis of the head remains generally parallel to the dental arch and in which head describes both a rotation and a translation, so as to perform a brush that starts from the gum and continues to the top of the teeth.
  • the invention aims to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a new toothbrush design that is simpler, therefore more economical, and has a relatively large gripping surface during brushing.
  • FIGS. 1 and 2 show a toothbrush 10 made in accordance with the teachings of the invention.
  • the toothbrush 10 comprises a handle 12 for gripping and manipulation which is oriented generally along a longitudinal axis X-X.
  • the handle 12 is made integrally by molding in one piece.
  • the toothbrush 10 comprises, at the free front end of the handle 12, a brushing head 14.
  • the head 14 has substantially a plate shape extending in a longitudinal plane P1, contained in the plane of Figure 1, and defining two opposite faces, substantially parallel to each other, which will be designated as the upper face 16 and as the lower face 18 , with reference to the vertical orientation of Figure 2.
  • the top and bottom of the toothbrush 10 are arbitrarily defined according to whether one is placed, respectively, on the side of the upper face 16 or the side of the lower face 18 of the head 14.
  • the upper face 16 is here the face of the head 14 which carries flexible brushing elements 20.
  • the flexible brushing elements 20 are, for example, parallel filaments or bristles which extend perpendicular to the plane of the upper face 16 of the head 14.
  • the filaments 20, intended to ensure the brushing of the teeth may for example be made of a thermoplastic material of the polyamide or polyethylene type, but they may also consist of natural bristles or other similar elements.
  • the toothbrush 10 here admits a plane of symmetry P2 which is vertical and which contains the longitudinal axis X-X.
  • the filaments 20 have for example a mowing form called "roof", that is to say that the height of the filaments 20 is increasing from each longitudinal side edge of the head 14 towards the plane of symmetry P2 of the brush 10.
  • the upper longitudinal face 22 and the lower longitudinal face 24 of the handle 12 will be referred to as the longitudinal portions of the handle 12 which are generally oriented respectively upwards and downwards.
  • a front portion 26 and a rear portion 28 of the handle 12 are respectively defined.
  • the toothbrush 10 is equipped with an arm 30 whose one end is articulated in a median longitudinal zone 32 of the upper longitudinal face 22 of the handle 12, and whose free end, which is opposite to the articulation 34, is provided with a protective cover 36 for the brushing filaments 20.
  • the articulated arm 30 may occupy a protective front position P av , which is shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, in which it is adjacent to the upper longitudinal face 22 of the front portion 26 of the handle 12 and in which the cover 36 covers the brushing filaments 20 to protect them from the outside.
  • the articulated arm 30 can occupy a rear grip position Par, which is shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, in which it is adjacent to the upper longitudinal face 22 of the rear portion 28 of the handle 12.
  • the overall thickness of the arm 30 progressively increases from its articulation 34 to the hood 36 so that, when the arm 30 occupies its gripping position Par, it forms a projecting profile on the face longitudinal upper 22 of the rear portion 28 of the handle 12, as can be seen in Figure 7.
  • the arm 30 increases the gripping surface of the handle 12, which facilitates the handling of the toothbrush 10 by the user, especially when performing a brushing movement of the type in roller.
  • the hinge 34 of the arm 30 relative to the handle 12 is of the ball-and-socket type. The detail of this hinge 34 is shown in FIG. 9.
  • the hinge end 34 of the arm 30 comprises a ball joint 38 which is here made integrally with the arm 30.
  • the ball joint 38 is mounted forcibly in a clearance 40 of substantially complementary shape formed in the upper face 22 of the central zone 32 of the handle 12.
  • the clearance 40 here has the shape of a non-through hole having an upper section 42 and a frustoconical lower section 44 of substantially vertical axis.
  • the upper portion 42 is very slightly frustoconical so that its diameter narrows very slightly upwards to its upper axial end 46, the latter delimiting a circular edge whose diameter D1 is slightly smaller than the maximum diameter D2 of the patella 38.
  • the ball 38 is retained inside the recess 40 after having been force-fitted therein.
  • the lower section 44 is here frustoconical and its diameter decreases downwards.
  • the arm 30 also comprises locking means 48 by elastic interlocking complementary shapes, to allow the user to lock the arm 30 in its protective position P av and in its gripping position Par.
  • the arm 30 comprises two longitudinal wings 50, 52 which, when the arm 30 occupies its protective position P av or its gripping position Par, extend substantially vertically downwards, on each side of the handle 12.
  • each longitudinal wing 50, 52 has, on its inner face 54, 56, ie towards the handle 12, a boss 58, 60 which is designed to cooperate with a relief complementary 62, 64 carried by the longitudinal side face 66, 68 vis-à-vis the handle 12, so as to lock the arm 30 in its position P av , P ar corresponding.
  • the joint plane resulting from the molding of the toothbrush 10 is shown in FIG. 8 by reversing the direction of the hatching between an upper portion and a lower portion of the handle 12.
  • the relief 62, 64 has the shape of a longitudinal boss.
  • the arm 30 also comprises an abutment element 70 which, when the arm 30 occupies its protective position P av , extends towards the upper face 22 of the front portion 26 of the handle 12, so as to prevent the crushing of the brushing elements by the hood 36.
  • the stop element 70 is formed here by a rear transverse wall of the protective cover 36 which bears on the upper face 22 of the front portion 26 of the handle 12 when the arm 30 occupies its protective position P av .
  • the cover 36 is thus delimited by a front transverse wall 72, by two lateral walls 74, 76 and by the rear transverse wall 70.
  • the side walls 74, 76 of the cover 36 extend longitudinally towards the ball 38, along the arm 30, so as to form a large gripping surface when the arm 30 occupies its gripping position Par.
  • the sidewalls 74, 76 extend toward the hinge 34 to form the longitudinal wings 50, 52.
  • the arm 30, the hood 36, the ball 38 and the longitudinal wings 50, 52 are made integrally by molding in one piece.
  • the arm 30 When it is desired to transport the toothbrush 10 or when the toothbrush 10 is not used, the arm 30 is placed in the protective position P av , so that the protective cover 36 completely covers the brushing filaments. 20 and isolates them from the outside.
  • the rear transverse wall 70 is then resting against the upper face 22 of the handle 12, which prevents the protective cover 36 from tilting down by crushing the brushing filaments 20.
  • the longitudinal wings 50, 52 are fitted on the reliefs 62, 64 which locks the arm 30 in its protective position P av avoiding it unwanted pivoting upwards.
  • the arm 30 pivots to a first intermediate position Pi1, which is shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, in which the arm 30 describes overall an angle of about 45 ° upwards with respect to the longitudinal axis XX.
  • the first intermediate position Pi1 corresponds globally to the first position, after the pivoting around the first geometric axis A1, in which the longitudinal wings 50, 52 are disengaged from the handle 12, that is to say that they have exceeded the upper longitudinal face 22 of the handle 12, in accordance with the representation of FIG. 4.
  • the arm 30 is then in a second intermediate position Pi2 (not shown) which is substantially symmetrical to the first intermediate position Pi1 with respect to a transverse plane passing through the hinge 34.
  • the arm 30 then extends in the longitudinal alignment XX of the handle 12, rearwards from the hinge 34.
  • the articulation 34 with a ball joint 38 can be replaced by another type of joint allowing the same pivoting movement of the arm 30, at least around the first axis of rotation A1 and around the second axis of rotation. rotation A2.
  • the ball 38 may for example be replaced by a deformable plastic element, natural or synthetic, which connects the articulation end 34 of the arm 30 to the handle 12.
  • toothbrush 10 Note that the geometric shapes of the toothbrush 10 are simple, which facilitates its production by molding according to known techniques.
  • toothbrush 10 according to the invention can be used even if the articulated arm 30 is disassembled or damaged.
