Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a device, suitable in particular for placing items of mail and parcels therein, provided with a housing, with a delivery chamber and a storage chamber, the delivery chamber being accessible from outside the device via an opening in the housing, which opening can be closed with the aid of a first closure member, the delivery chamber being connected via a passage to the storage chamber, which passage can be closed with the aid of a second closure member, the first closure member being designed as a rolling door or rolling shutter, which can be moved from a first position for closing the opening to a second position for opening the opening.
  • the device according to the present invention is particularly suitable for secure delivery of an item of mail or parcel at a first time by a person making the delivery, while the said item of mail or parcel can be collected at a later time by a recipient.
  • a device of the type described in the preamble is known from German patent DE 239580.
  • the delivery chamber is closed off from a closed chamber via a flap.
  • a person making a delivery can open the delivery chamber by sliding a rolling door or rolling shutter upwards. The end of this rolling door locks the flap between the delivery chamber and the storage chamber. Then, the person making the delivery places a parcel or item of mail onto the flap and then closes the rolling door or rolling shutter again.
  • DE 239580 there is a weight at the end of the flap. When the rolling door or rolling shutter is closed, the locking of the flap is eliminated. Under the influence of the weight at the end of the flap, the flap will rotate, so that the objects positioned on the flap slide off the flap. At the end of the flap, there is a collection bucket for collecting these products.
  • the known device can be used to place products in the storage chamber.
  • a person making the delivery will use his hand to raise the flap and place the products which are to be delivered into the storage chamber.
  • the flap is then closed by hand and the rolling shutter is closed again.
  • a first significant drawback of the device described in DE 239580 is the fact that this device takes up a relatively large amount of space.
  • the device is only suitable for fitting in a wall.
  • a person making the delivery can introduce parcels or items of mail into the device on the one side of this wall.
  • a relatively large amount of space is required on the other side of the device in order for the end of the flap with the collection bucket on it to be allowed to rotate.
  • a further drawback of the device according to the prior art is the fact that this device is suitable for the storage chamber below the flap to be filled once. Once this storage chamber has been filled by hand, the flap is automatically held in the locked position with the aid of a lock. The device can only be reused after this locking has been eliminated by the owner of the device.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide a device of the type described in the preamble which can be used a number of times in succession, i.e. a first person making a delivery can securely place a first item of mail or parcel in the device, and then a second person making a delivery can place a further item of mail or parcel in the device in a secure way.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide a relatively compact device of simple structure.
  • the second closure member is designed as a rolling shutter or rolling door which can be moved from a first position for opening the passage to a second position for closing the passage, the first and second closure members being connected to one another in order to move the second closure member from the first position to the second position, as a result of the first closure member being moved from the first position to the second position.
  • first and second closure members be formed by a first part and a second part, respectively, of a rolling door or rolling shutter.
  • the device comprises only a housing and a rolling door fitted therein.
  • the rolling door In the starting state, the rolling door is positioned in such a way that the opening which connects the delivery opening to the outside world is closed.
  • the rolling door When a user moves the rolling door, so that the opening is opened and, at the same time, the passage between the delivery chamber and the storage chamber is closed, i.e. when a person making a delivery has access via the opening from the outside to the delivery chamber, the passage between this delivery chamber and the storage chamber is closed.
  • the first and second closure members are designed in such a way that, during the movement of the first closure member into the second position, the passage is completely closed when the first closure member opens the opening.
  • the result of this measure is that the passage is always closed when access to the delivery chamber is possible from the outside.
  • the device comprises a guide for guiding the locking member from a first position to a second position during the movement of the first closure member from its first position to its second position.
  • the presence of a catch in the first closure member means that access to the delivery chamber is only possible when the owner wishes it to be so.
  • the storage chamber is closed whenever access to the delivery chamber is possible, it is advantageous, in view of weather conditions or periods of increased risk and the like, if the first closure member can be fixed in its first position.
  • the presence of a guide for a locking member is advantageous, since the locking member itself will take up a certain amount of space.
  • the space required for this locking member represents an interruption in the wall of the housing.
  • the presence of the guide with a security feature behind it is advantageous.
  • guide means for guiding the first and second closure members from their first position to their second position are fitted in the housing.
  • the guide comprises a bar or rim which extends in a direction which is transverse to the direction of movement of the second closure member.
  • the presence of the guide will ensure that the rolling door or rolling shutter in the device is guided through the device over a desired path at all times.
  • the first closure member can be moved back from the second position into the first position.
  • the presence of the bar which extends transversely with respect to the direction of movement of the rolling shutter ensures that the parcels and items of mail do actually pass from the delivery chamber into the storage chamber below it.
  • the first closure member moves substantially in the vertical direction from its first position to its second position
  • the second closure member moving substantially in the horizontal direction during the movement of said member from its first position to its second position. That section of the closure member which is in the second position can adopt a vertical position in the upward or downward direction.
  • a security feature it is advantageous for a security feature to be fitted to the rear side of the housing, with the result that, when the closure member is in the second position, the security feature makes it impossible to take hold of the rolling shutter, preventing the latter from being forced open.
  • the storage chamber it is possible for the storage chamber to be provided with a closable door or a closable shutter in which there is a slot for letters.
  • the invention operates in the following way: the person who wishes to deliver a large item of mail or parcel manipulates the first closure member in the downwards direction, by means of the button which is attached to this closure member, until the button is in the groove on the underside of the delivery opening. In this way, the delivery opening is opened up, the rolling shutter has formed the second closure member via the guides and the person making the delivery can place the large item of mail or parcel on the second closure member through the delivery opening in the delivery chamber behind the sliding bar.
  • the person making the delivery has to move the second closure member back into its original position and, in this way, close the delivery opening again by means of the first closure member. Since this removes the floor or separation which has been formed between the delivery chamber and the storage chamber, the large item of mail or parcel will drop into the storage chamber, so that it has been securely delivered. If a further parcel is delivered, the procedure is repeated. This can be continued until the storage chamber is (over)full.
  • Figure 1 shows a front view of the invention with a delivery opening which is completely closed by the first closure member
  • Figure 2 shows a front view of the invention with the delivery opening open
  • Figure 3 shows a lateral cross section through the invention, with a delivery opening completely closed by the first closure member and with the closure member in the primarily vertical position with no separation between the delivery chamber and the storage chamber,
  • Figure 4 shows a lateral cross section through the invention with a delivery opening which is not quite open and with the closure members in this position just providing a separation between the delivery chamber and the storage chamber
  • Figure 5 shows a lateral cross section through the invention with the delivery opening open and with the second closure member in the mainly horizontal position forming a separation between the delivery chamber and the storage chamber.
  • Figure 1 shows the invention in the closed position, including the closure member (Bl) in the guide rails (D) provided with locking member (C) which closes delivery opening (A).
  • the closure member (Bl) can be positioned via guide (M) in such a manner that the closure member is in a predominantly and approximately vertical position, so that the closure member completely closes the delivery opening (A).
  • fixing clips (G) are fitted to the top of the inner edge of the front panel (H).
  • the cutout (N) on the underside of the delivery opening is used to allow the closure mechanism to be positioned at a sufficiently low level such that the entire periphery of the delivery opening can be utilized.
  • Figure 1 also shows the removal door (I) with lock (E) also provided with letterbox slot (P) and hinge(s) (J).
  • Figure 2 shows the invention with the delivery opening (A) open and the locking member (C) in cutout (N), with the result that the invention is in the right position for items of mail or parcels to be placed onto the closure member (B2) which has now been moved vertically downwards and as a result has been positioned predominantly and virtually horizontally.
  • Figure 3 shows a lateral cross section through the invention in the closed state as shown in Figure 1, with the closure member (Bl) in the first, predominantly horizontal position which closes off the delivery chamber (S) from the outside world.
  • the security feature (K) can be seen just behind guide (D) on the front of the housing, and security feature (L) can be seen on the rear side of the housing, just in front of guide (D).
  • the position of sliding bar (F) can also be seen.
  • Figure 4 shows a side view and cross section through the invention in which the closure member (Bl) has been partially moved. In this position, the delivery opening (A) has not quite been opened, but there is a complete separation between the delivery chamber (S) and the storage chamber (R). Because of security feature (K), "fishing" through guide (M) is impossible.
  • Figure 5 shows a side view and cross section through the invention in which the closure member (B2) has been moved all the way down, with the result that delivery opening (A) has been opened and it has become possible to deliver a large item of mail or parcel by positioning the large item of mail or parcel in question on the closure member (B2), which is now positioned horizontally.
  • the person making the delivery returns the closure member to the position shown in Figures 1 and 3, the item of mail or parcel will drop into the storage chamber (R) and has thus been securely delivered.
