Definitions
- the invention relates to an engine valve system with internal combustion, such as, for example, those used for motor vehicles.
- the exhaust valves used in these engines are subject to high thermal stresses due to direct contact exhaust gases.
- valve systems include a guide, placed in the engine cylinder head, in which the valve stem slides.
- the end of the valve stem ends in a flared part called a tulip.
- the edge of the tulip, called scope, abuts against the seat of the cylinder head in closed valve position.
- the most exposed parts of the valve are the part of the valve stem outside the guide and the top of the tulip. These parts must therefore have a high thermomechanical resistance.
- this screen should be fixed and not hung on the valve. he can then be directly or indirectly integral with the cylinder head or of the guide.
- GB-568,940 describes a valve system in which the screen is fixed to the cylinder head by means of a thread, or made integral part of the cylinder head.
- the guide is also fixed to the guide by screwing.
- the guide has a slightly tapered end that can be inserted in force in the opening of the screen. In this case too, the tolerances dimensions must be low in order to avoid detachment of the screen.
- the invention aims to overcome these drawbacks by proposing a valve system comprising a guide and a screen integral with the guide, the securing of the screen being achieved by its incorporation in the material of the guide during the manufacture of the latter. It is not thus more necessary that the manufacture of the screen responds to high tolerance requirements.
- the creation of a screen attached to the guide does not require additional operations during mounting the guide in the cylinder head, compared to mounting a guide without screen.
- an object of the invention is a valve system internal combustion engine having a valve stem mounted sliding in a substantially cylindrical guide and a screen having symmetry of revolution and surrounding the rod, at least a part of the end of the screen being incorporated into the material forming the guide at at least part of the end of this last, the guide and the screen being coaxial.
- Another object of the invention relates to a valve assembly for an internal combustion engine intended to be used for sealing a gas exhaust duct located in the cylinder head of the engine, said assembly comprising on the one hand a valve comprising in particular a valve stem slidably mounted in a guide substantially cylindrical and a screen having a symmetry of revolution, this the latter surrounding and protecting the rod in the exhaust duct, and on the other hand a bore passing through the cylinder head and opening into the exhaust duct, intended to receive the guide of the valve.
- the bore presents at its end close to the exhaust duct a housing intended to receive and contain a part of the screen introduced into the bore, and the end of the near guide of the exhaust duct has a part bearing on said part of the screen, the dimensions of the housing being smaller than the dimensions of the bore and part of the screen.
- the screen is thus held in place in the housing of the breech by the pressure of the guide and cannot be released.
- valve shown in Figure 1 is arranged in the cylinder head 10 an internal combustion engine. For clarity, only the part of the cylinder head receiving the valve is shown.
- the valve comprises a valve stem 20, in the form cylindrical, which has a tulip-shaped flared end, called tulip 22, and a piece called bearing 24 located on the free edge of the tulip 22 and coming into contact with the cylinder head 10 when the valve is in closed position.
- the part of the cylinder head 10 in contact with the bearing surface 24 is called seat 12.
- the contact between the bearing surface 24 and the seat 12 ensures tightness of the valve in the closed position, as shown in the figure 1.
- the exhaust gases pass through the cylinder head 10 through a discharge duct 14.
- the valve stem 20 is slidably mounted axially in a guide 30 disposed in a housing 16 of the cylinder head 10 provided for this effect.
- the guide 30 is produced in the usual way in the form of a hollow cylinder with axis of revolution 32.
- a screen 40 is fixed on the guide 30.
- This screen 40 is located at the end 34 of the guide 30, directed towards the tulip 22. It consists of a hollow body 42 having a symmetry of revolution and surrounding the rod 20 once mounted. A end of the screen, called hooking end 44, is intended to be secured to the end 34 of the guide.
- the grip end 44 has a slightly conical shape, widening towards the free edge of the screen.
- the conical part is such that its smallest diameter is greater than the internal diameter of the guide and that its largest diameter is less than the outer diameter of the guide.
- the attachment end 44 can be entirely incorporated in the thickness of the guide 30, as can be seen in FIGS. 1 and 2.
- the guide 30 is shown in dotted lines for more clarity.
- the grip end 44 On its lateral face, the grip end 44 also has a plurality of holes 46, visible in Figures 2 and 3. These holes 46 allow the passage of the material forming the guide 30 during the manufacture of the latter. The screen is then incorporated into the material of the guide, which has the effect of improving cohesion.
- the body 42 of the screen can also have a shape slightly conical flaring towards its free edge opposite the end grip 44, allowing it to protect the valve stem during the complete engine cycle ( Figure 1).
- the dimensions of the body 42 are such that the screen is located as close as possible to the rod 20 without touching it.
- the largest external diameter of the screen is smaller or equal to the outer diameter of the guide, to allow the passage of the screen in the housing 16 of the cylinder head during assembly of the guide.
- the production of the screen 40 can be carried out by methods varied adapted to the material used and allowing obtaining the shape desired. As the dimensional tolerances of the screen are high, it it is not necessary to employ complex procedures. The material is chosen to withstand high temperatures.
- the step of making the screen 40 includes a step of drilling the lateral surface of the grip end 44 in order to form the holes 46.
- the step of producing the guide 30 can be carried out by sintering, molding or other.
- the assembly operations of the screen is limited to keeping the screen on the mold so that the screen and the guide are coaxial.
- the molten material forming the guide covers the grip end 44, penetrating into the holes 46.
- the screen 40 is incorporated in guide 30.
- the guide 40 being almost entirely located inside the housing 16 of the cylinder head, the material constituting it does not need have a high temperature resistance.
- This material is chosen with a melting point sufficiently lower than that of the material forming the screen, thus, there is no risk of fusion of this last when producing the guide.
- the bore 16 of the cylinder head has a complementary shape of guide 30, of a slightly larger diameter so that the guide can be forced into the bore 16.
- the bore 16 has a first end 17 opening on the side opposite the duct exhaust 14 and a second end 18 opening into the exhaust duct.
- the second end 18 has a shape conical complementary to the chamfer 34 of the guide.
- the dimensions of the end 18 are smaller than the dimensions of the bore 16.
- a screen 40 is arranged around the rod 20 near the guide 30.
- It consists of a hollow body having a symmetry of revolution.
- the hollow body comprises a first part 44 whose end conical is complementary to the chamfers 34 and 18 of the guide and the breech respectively.
- the end 18 of the guide then forms a slot 18 for part 44 of the screen.
- the screen is made so that the largest external diameter of the first part 44, corresponding to the diameter of its free edge, ie greater than diameter of the free edge of the housing 18 of the bore 16 of the cylinder head.
- the other part 46 of the hollow body may also have a shape slightly conical flaring towards its free edge opposite the first part 44. The screen thus protects the valve stem during the cycle complete with the engine (figure 4).
- the dimensions of the screen body are such that it is located as close as possible to the rod 20 without touching it (FIG. 4).
- the largest external diameter of the screen is less than or substantially equal to the internal diameter of the bore, to allow the passage of the screen in the bore 16 of the cylinder head during its assembly.
- the maximum external diameter of part 46 of the screen is less than the minimum diameter of the housing 18 of the bore, so that only the part 44 of the screen is retained by the housing 18 when the screen is in place.
- Part 46 of screen 40 is introduced into bore 16 on the side from the end 17.
- the introduction is carried out in the axial direction as shown by arrow F.
- the screen will fall into the housing 18, in the lower part of the bore 16.
- the part 44 of the screen comes lodge in this housing 18, its external lateral walls bearing against the walls of the housing.
- Part 46 of the screen is then located in the exhaust duct 14, outside the bore 16. Due to the conical shape of part 44 of the screen, the latter is automatically centered and does not need to be maintained when the introduction to the guide.
- the guide 30 is in turn introduced to force in the bore 16 on the end side 17, the chamfer 34 being directed towards this end.
- the guide is introduced until the contact between the guide and the screen on the one hand, and the screen and the cylinder head on the other hand, be established.
- the choice of the angle of the cone formed by the chamfer 34, the part 44 and the housing 18 is defined for each application.
- the value of this angle is a compromise between different constraints: tolerances dimensions of manufacturing and machining of the guide, screen and cylinder head, size of guide in cylinder head, type of mounting of the guide / screen assembly in the cylinder head.
- the method of producing the screen can be freely chosen, thus reducing its manufacturing cost.
- the cost of producing the guide is therefore also low.
- valve stem 20 The mounting of the valve stem 20 is carried out in the manner usual, and will therefore not be described.
- the screen may for example have an annular projection at the end of its part 44, coming to bear against an annular projection of the bore 16 of the cylinder head.
- the end of the guide is then in support against the projection of part 44.
- the dimensional tolerances of a such achievement would however be lower.
- provision may be made for the end of the guide to be inserted into the screen, conical shapes for example facilitating centering.
- the guide / screen assembly is then mounted in the cylinder head of the same as a guide without a screen. This assembly is known per se and will therefore not be described.
